If you think you can do better why won't you run? Oh wait, because you're too fucking CAREFREE!
No, dumbfuck, its because I'm not really that interested in politics.

<- Political Science major.
What's this implying?
He's an inbred moron?
But alas he was born in Connecticut. Though I don't see the correlation between state of residence and ability to hold/run an office.
No, dumbfuck, its because I'm not really that interested in politics.
So why are you posting in here?
Wow this thread is just like politics, pointless arguements that go nowhere.
@Bad-Beat:

Politics, and Politicians, are only good most of the time to make us laugh…:getlost:
Anyways, out of curiosity, has Bush done something relevant for USA besides starting the "war against terrorism"?
Find out more, next time, on the rest of that post.
Stay tuned for more information regarding this matter.
Do you not understand that I feel slightly offended by your post, since… you know... I'M FROM FUCKING TEXAS?! :getlost:

Way to get on the wrong side of AP members from Texas.

Hmm, wasn't there that whole "Oil for Food" debacle with Iraq before the war? Oh wait, maybe that's just Australia's John Bush Howard. There's also an accusation about Bush and his minions ignoring the warnings about 9/11 attacks. I'm not sure how much truth is in that, though.
But… Guantanamo Bay, anyone?
lol…so it seems nobody here is doing what I said to do in the beginning...instead of arguing, I asked that you all express your opinions and simply read those of others. That was my intent. Instead, you all are bickering pettily like children, which is nothing like politics. Politics is working together to get whats done thats best for the people. And some will say thats not what it means...
...I'm going to redefine politics before I die. It's my lifelong dream.
Do you not understand that I feel slightly offended by your post, since… you know... I'M FROM FUCKING TEXAS?! :getlost:
Do you not understand a light joke?
If you would bother to read the rest of that post, I said that only 2/3 of my points could be justified. If you can't figure out which point could be justified, than perhaps this is not the thread for you.
Seriously, do you not understand sarcasm, or did you just jump and have PMS when you read the Texas thing?
You are the perfect chance for me to bring up something else, America is way too fucking stiff today. Every joke is racist or sexist. You could file a lawsuit for basically anything.
Seriously, learn to take a joke, words can only go so far. I know what it feels like, I'm fucking Asian.

Absolutely agree !
I would join this discussion…. but I don't really know much about politics .

Well said, well said.
Its not only America btw, seems like the whole world is full of people who can only see the glass half empty.

I thought you were going to get much more involved in this thread though
I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED

Well no one in this thread is making fun of goddamn asia
THAT BEING SAID please try to keep this thread somewhat civilized… if not, it'll probably be closed. thx all

When someone uses the word "fucking" in the context that you did, they generally mean business.
You have a peculiar way of fucking with someone.
Well no one in this thread is making fun of goddamn asia
Obviously? That's not the point I was getting at. Whatever, I'll keep this civilized/stay away from this topic.
Well, at first I was just fucking around, & then you got snooty with me… so, I became semi-perturbed. But yeah, for future reference... I'm pretty laid back.
And thus the misunderstanding was shelved away forever.
Back to making fun of Moria?
Just kidding, I swear Taboo, I swear.
Hey, we share a common interest…
We also both have mister in one form or another in our names.
Also, Slowking is awesome. +3 mutual approval rating for us!?
Back on topic, anyone else think its a load of cock shit the stuff that gets censored nowadays? Stuff that is rated R today could have passed for pg13 a decade ago even. Hell, we had games like Custer's Revenge on the market two decades ago and now anything with blood gets slapped with an M for mature?
Not to mention the censoring in anime, like in.. uh… One Piece? -.- I don't understand the general public's thoughts that our kids should be sheltered. Why? So they can find out during stages of puberty and during the teen years, where they are most prone to attempting reckless stunts? I'm not saying that every 5 year old should be watching violence in movies and sex on tv, but it gets ridiculous every now and then.
I touched on it earlier, but its definitely lame how everything has to be politcally correct. Why do you have to call black people "African Americans." Fuck that. Call them black people or call them Americans. They are black people or colored people, and they are Americans. Why should they be classified as anything different. I don't see the world going wild when a white dude gets called white. Screw politically correct, I hope our politicians grow some balls.
you people don't like to be nice do you.
you people don't like to be nice do you.
I used to be liberal in mostly everything, but after a while I kind of became jaded with a bunch of stuff and have been becoming more conservative in terms of money.
I see Carter is selling out to the man.
I'm fine being called black btw.
My political views could be called almost darwinistic. I just am not good enough person to think everyone should be taken care of. The weak perish and the strong survive. Simple. If someone really is a loser who can't get an education or a job, then its not my responsibility to pay taxes just so these people can leech off of me.
Don't get me completely wrong though, the reason why I can say such harsh things is because I live in a country where education is completely free and the government even gives students money for living, without requiring them to do anything. Same with employment. The social security is excellent, and nobody basically gets left behind. If you lose your job, you still get enough money from the government to live. Its practically impossible here to "lose it all" and become a homeless for example, but still, people are so used to living in this utopia on earth that they constantly keep whining for more and want an even easier life.
I know studying can be really expensive in USA and parents start saving money since their children are small, so they could afford their education. Of course not all are able to ever get such amounts of money and the rich have the advantage. That really doesnt give people the same chances to begin with, unlike here, where everyone starts from the same line and you cant really blame anyone else from fucking up your life than yourself. My point isnt something like "my country is better than yours!". I rather appreciate the fact that in USA working hard actually pays off.
So, basically im just trying to say, that im tired of the losers here who always whine for more and more, never realizing how secure their lives already are. People should earn their happiness and not depend on other people to give it to them.
This is my world view when it comes to politics and because of this, ill never vote for any communist party or a party which even shows signs of leaning to the left.
I see your point and agree that people who are in a good situation that whine for more are completely bullshit. However, more so than not, I believe that people ask for equality of opportunity and not equality of possession. That is, they want the chances to succeed to be equal for everyone.
It's quite obvious that some people get a better jump start than other people, and that's bound to happen in capitalism. I think the problem is that those people have those opportunities because uh… well... minorities only got civil rights 40 years ago? Of course, my words are more directed towards America, as I do not know the course of history other countries have taken. The minorities were already grouped into slums and forced to live near poverty levels for a century before getting their rights. And then when they get their rights, white people ditched the inner cities and formed suburbs. Districts were redrawn and what do you know, it's STILL segregated. Funny how the schools in my area that are the best off are 90% or more Caucasian while the schools where all the crime and gangs are see more diversity.
Basically, what I'm saying is that maybe some of those "whiners" have a good reason for doing so. You can send two people to a race with one of them on crutches and expect an equal result.
Yeah, I agree that everyone should have equal chances for succeeding, and in my opinion they do have it here. If somebody is just born dumb… well, natural selection, but at least everyone here has a chance for free education etc.
USA is a different thing and I agree with what you're saying about minorities. There most people just can't get an equal chance, even if they would deserve it. Capitalism can be a double-edged blade too. Its possible to reach heavens if you're successfull, but if you fail, everything can come crumbling down. Around here its the same mediocore life, no matter how much you fail or succeed. One thing scary about living in USA for me would be: if you get sick and you're not rich, its game over.
I think many people would be so grateful if they could come here and get an proper education for free. Thats what makes it so funny that people who actually are living here don't see what they already have and just continue looking at the half empty glass. Even though the government gives everyone the warmth of sufficient social security, people always want more and will probably shut up only if the government buys them an Porsche and a mansion. My politically incorrect answer to these people: Shut the f up and get a job.
The social security is excellent, and nobody basically gets left behind. If you lose your job, you still get enough money from the government to live. Its practically impossible here to "lose it all" and become a homeless for example
And yet we still have homeless people, tho. Not that media would pay much attention to them but they still exist.
And yet we still have homeless people, tho. Not that media would pay much attention to them but they still exist.
Yeah, we have them, but the amount is quite small. Basically I meant that if you have an ok head on top of your shoulders, its quite impossible to become homeless here. Junkies and alcoholics are a different thing in my book and their existence I don't even consider.
But yeah, this place isn't fairyland and no matter how good the "social safety nets" are, somebody always manages to fall through. Still, we have things pretty damn well here and in a way, are priviledged.
While I agree, I think I will still keep up complaining as long as there's room to improve –- we have lost of things to be grateful because there were people before us who complained and there were people before them who complained and so on. And there's room to improve. Having to wait over a year to get a chance to see a dentist wasn't exactly a highlight of "free" medical care (I ended up visiting a private dentist...).
Anyhow, I guess my political views are just the polar opposite of yours. I take you aren't a big fan of the idea of guaranteed minumum income?
I actually had a long talk about the subject of homeless with a paramedic, a year a go or so. She had apparently dealt a lot of with homeless people around here and, while they are often indeed junkies or alcoholics, they haven't necessarily been ones before they "falled through the safety nets".
Oh, well. Now I'm just rambling randomly.
i do'nt understand you
but i love politica :)

about DOUBLE_BUBBLE_BUSH_FANATIC
Great, now APForums is gonna turn into a politics forum with One Piece on the side. sigh
I hate politics, so I try not to think about it. Same with pretty much everything on the Disney channel. But it never works….
@DOUBLE_BUBBLE_BUSH_FANATIC:

you might also want to consider he might not be american or brittish.

btw: i cant tell… are you serious or jokeing about bush?
He's joking .
Anyhow, I guess my political views are just the polar opposite of yours. I take you aren't a big fan of the idea of guaranteed minumum income?
Hehe, yeah I already guessed too that our views are complete opposites. And you are correct in saying that I am not a big fan of that guaranteed minimum income thing. I already feel there are too many freeloaders, and that would just make it worse. I'm an egoistic asshole anyways, so I rather work for my own money and encourage everyone else to do so too, rather than provide an income from the tax money for even those who choose not to earn their own pennies.
btw, just to prevent this thread from turning in to a 2 man discussion about politics of northern Europe: I found it funny yesterday when I thought that its really possible for USA to be run either by a woman, or a black man in the near future. Must be tough for all the racists, women haters and rednecks in general.
I wonder how the New President will manage the whole Iraq Situation. That's the only thing right now that I look forward that happens to be related with USA's Politics. There's also the stuff of the debt created with the War, but I'm not sure if that's even enough to become a Long Term problem.
Anyways, have you heard anything about Venezuela? Their president is fucking nuts. If you happen to have two houses, the government practically takes one of them away as their own property. The same happens with other stuff like Cars, and I think they even closed most local channels to just have one that is Loyal to the president. Hell, if the idiot is actually trying to create a new cuba, then it would be a matter of time before a revolution begins, even tough shooting him would be easier.
There's some country … over there, who's leader forces all his citizens to worship a giant statue of himself and devote themselves to a sort of Bible that he created about himself.

Bush could be worse
I'm just waiting for the political prediction in "demolition man" to come true =P. best prediction ever! ^^
The more I read this topic, the more my head starts to hurt.
…
Some of you lot don't even know what you like, do you? :getlost:
The more I read this topic, the more my head starts to hurt.
Oh Mr. Political Science Major, please do contribute to the conversation and share your superb political views with us lowlifes. Maybe then, even people like us can grow wiser.
Yeah, Terek, there's absolutely nothing which would stop you from fixing our wrongs.
But to continue our talk about politics in our insignificant country. This has always been an international forum anyway and, even though the world revolves around the US, the thread topic doesn't say "US politics only" so… and hey, at least we are able to talk about our views without throwing fists.
And you are correct in saying that I am not a big fan of that guaranteed minimum income thing. I already feel there are too many freeloaders, and that would just make it worse.
I recall unemployment benefit is right now somewhere around 500 euros a month - that's way under our "poverty" line already (1200 euros) - and what the Green League has suggested was that the guaranteed minimum income would be 440 euros a month. So it would be actually a little harded for all of those "freeloaders", and instead it would help all of those single mothers, part time workers… or at least in theory. :P
Anyway, I think it's worth of considering but it's up to much smarter people than me.
Personally I don't really mind about freeloaders though because, if they choose to live with that little of money, their life won't be all about flowers and butterflies. Besides, as far as I know but I could be wrong, true freeloaders are really few and far between --- and in any given system there will be abusers anyway.
I think the current system still does reward well for being hardworking and succesful. It just doesn't punish the heck out you if you are unlucky or if you are outside the norm. And I believe supporting the weak is always good for the whole society in general. For example the less there are people who are living in poverty and the less there are people who feel that there is unfairness toward them, the less there will be ill actions against those who has everything alright (criminality, terrorism).
If it makes you feel any better for losing your hard earnied pennies, I'm working as a personal assistant for two people, a couple, who are living in wheelchairs and they are good people and thanks to the taxes you pay, Runkuz, they have a chance to live a good life!
Yeah, Terek, there's absolutely nothing which would stop you from fixing our wrongs.
Where do I start? I don't have any idea on the direction of this thread or what people want to get out of it.
I was a Political Science major when I was in college and I've always found the subject to be fascinating. People who go into politics are extrememly intersting subjects of the power-hungry or overly idealistic, and the people who vote them into office are generally about as smart as drywall.
I'm always amused by the general public's way of treating their political leanings like its their favorite sports team. You pick a political party and bleed their colors through thick and thin. That way, you can always overlook all of the corruption in the party of your choice and carry on about the same corruption in your opponents. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you never give up your support for anyone on your team because then you'd just be some turncoat, jump-on-the-bandwagon Red Sox fan, and nobody likes those assholes.
Of course there is the much exhalted independent segment of the population. You know, the people who don't belong to a party. Not neccessarily because they want to really weigh the candidates platforms against each other, but more because they can't be bothered by taking a few minutes out of their life to understand what a political platform is. This group generally votes for the candidate who has better teeth and as a whole looks better on camara.
Then of course there is the majority, also known as the non-voter. These types see the whole political process as a set-up. Rather than choose between two canditates who they feel are equally corrupt, they make a difference by not participating in the system. And their difference is the greatest of all. They ensure that we are stuck with increasingly inept leaders thus encourging even more voters to join their ranks.
Ah, politics. What fun!
yo, people people please….um....yeah...One Piece rulz...

I would be a nonvoter if our system was as complicated as americas, unfortunately its different (but probably just as complicated)…
baisicly while a vote doesnt count for much in america as i have understood it (due to it beeing a 2 party system.. or is that only the presitdential election?), wierdoes doesnt need much %votes to get into a provincial seat of power over here. which means for every extremeist voter you need a few relative sane ones to push him/them down under the limit.
wow…looks like I've created a thread for people to be assholes!
AWESOME!
yeah...well, I actually just created this thread to sit back and watch how long it would take for you children to resort to insults and useless bashing.
Of course, there are plenty in here who are good people. I know who they are.
And as for the rest of you...well, good thing you're not after the same dream as me.
wow…looks like I've created a thread for people to be assholes!
Your off topic post are just as bad, if not worse. There hasn't been any "insults and useless bashing" yet, so just chill out.
