So Luffy's not strong without his devil fruit powers?
His powers also had nothing to do with his victory over Bellamy.

I was suggesting that Kuma isn't stronger then Luffy unless he, like Usopp and Luffy before him, has a power that just happens to possess some kind of natural advantage to Luffy.

I'll focus instead on the job description of shichibukai instead. I belive it wassomething along the lines of: In exchange for a small portion of the spoils and for hunting down other pirates the marines look the other way with most of the shichibukais crimes.
DoFlamingo clearly states that he is still a criminal at the meeting and Songoku or whatever says something or other about how sad it is to hear piracy going well.

Listen, when you're a 300+ million bounty head, just commiting vague crimes like "being in the pirate business" doesn't warrant the attention of marines. Why would bounties raise from the roles of the shichibukai? As far as we know, they just hunt other pirates who are far, far weaker then them. To have their bounties raise from that would be like Luffy getting a bounty for beating Bellamy's crew.

The crimes I'm talking about are things like conquering nations, leveling marine bases, taking down the strongest in the world...things that the marines and world government actually care about once you're a pirate on the world level. Things that (except for say, beating yonkou or something, just so you don't get confused again), if any of the shichibukai did they'd most likely did they'd get their shichibukai possitions taken away, their bounties unfrozen, and probably a bounty raise. The only reason Crocodile didn't get a new bounty was he was captured immediately after being fired.

So, to summarize, my point was the shichibukai have frozen bounties, but most likely don't deserve anything higher then those frozen bounties cause they haven't commited any offenses that the world cares about.

Also, it's true, bounties aren't precise power levels, but they are more or less accurate for the villians of the series. The fact that "Crocodile would have a bounty of 160 million if his bounty wasn't frozen" doesn't really mean anything.

I'd just like to add one thing about Oda mentioning that Crocodile's bounty should have been twice that of his frozen one:

I don't think he was referring to croc being at such a level of danger to the WG. Rather, I think he meant it as a gauge to the audience, what sort of level of power Luffy was facing. In other words, bounty, in the mind of the writer, Oda, should also be some sort of reflection of power.

I mean, c'mon, a weakling would never get a high bounty. The WG even made up the lie about destroying 6 warships to cover up for Robin's high bounty. I should hardly think that bounties and and power levels don't have some sort of relationship.

this explanation is vastly different from what i read before.
before was just an assumption that made no sense and imo was kind of stupid… maybe not the intentions but how it was read was.

However i dont agree with you at all on the assumption that they have done nothing to warrant a bounty raise. we already know Moria has totally revamped his style of fighting and considers himself stronger because of it. He has shown growth. (and im assumeing this is after the became a shichibukai.) If the others has as well they could very well have gone after and defeated pirates with higher bounties then themselves to raise their reputation (this is what blackbeard is trying to do)

Ofc they havent done anything to piss off the goverment enough to revoke their warlord status but that doesnt mean they havent commited crimes, attacked other pirates and just generaly displayed strenght that would warrent a bounty raise if they werent paying WG a portion of their spoiles.
Enels supposed bounty would have been based on pure power since he hasnt commited any crimes against the WG or marines. so i am assumeing that if any pirate just grows enough without commiting any new crimes their bounty will rise as well (wasnt that what happened to Luffy in Alabasta... he wasnt charged for any crime but because he was able to defeat Crocodile, who was plotting against WG so i dont think they are THAT pissed at him for deafeating croc, they raised his bounty to 100 millions.

whats even the point in mentioning that their bounties are frozen if it doesnt mean that they could have made progress since? a bounty is as much a terror weapon as it is a carrot in the face of bounty hunters. All they need to do is make an amendment to the bounty poster saying that anyone defeating them will have to take their place as a warlord.

Archtyrant: think most agree that there is a connection to power its jsut taht its not a direct relation.. there are other factors as well. access timeco was probably just clumsy in expressing himself.

I think it will probably be able to multiply somehow, I also think it will be just as lazy as he is for comedic purposes.. ;D

It's hard to speculate really, since other than his shadow becoming all sorts of tangible objects, I can't think of anything. I guess that's why I'm not a writer, haha.

I also think Moria will have fighting ability of his own!

Maybe It is just me but I think he will have 6 forms of fighting like the CP9 had.

He probably will barf up shadow beasts or something and possibly make rocks fight for him by controlling their shadows. A funny fight, but I think eventually Luffy will punch him square in the face, open his stitches, a bunch of worms and bats fly out and then theres a much slimmer Moria, which is not as lazy (big Moria maybe was lazy since the outer shell of his skin is heavy) and super powerful.

This kind of morphology (huge torso, long arms, ridiculously short and thin legs) is directly inspired from Asterix and other franco-belgian comics. I grew up reading them so it doesn't bother me and I even find it great that a japanese artist was inspired by it.

Point is, I'm pretty much sure Moria will stay the way he is now. "Slim" Moria would be too reminiscent of Wapol and the villain transforming into a more powerful version is a shonen staple I don't want to see in OP.

I do think he's awesome as he is.. I don't even see anybody saying he wasn't, or that he needed to change. We were just talking about stuff he MIGHT do in the upcoming chapters, which in the hands of Oda, could be anything. Do you have anything to add to the discussion or are you dead set on being drama bait with that attitude of yours?

Uhm yeah. I'm pretty sure nobody in a shonen manga has punched themselves in a face ripping away stitches to reveal another form they had underneath the large exterior of fat. That's a pretty nice twist on something generic. ;D

Seems to me that wishing for a new design and new personality implies that you're not entirely satisfied with his current look and behavior.

As for what I expect him to do in the next chapters, gradually getting more serious and using his powers at the fullest. I trust Oda to give him some insane abilities, a shadow controlling fruit gives him a lot of potential. Like manipulating his own shadow as we've already seen last chapter or using the shadows of the surroundings, why not to travel from shadow to shadow, or create soldiers out of them etc etc.

You would like to see a slimmer "super powerful" version of Moria with a different face emerge from his current fat body. We were discussing ways that Moria could use his powers, we also stated that it would be cool if there was another body inside of him, like he was in a puppet or halloween costume. We also said that it would be sort of cool if he was a bit more powerful. And don't you find it downright ODD that you happen to be one of the only people who don't like that idea? because there are plenty of people who love that idea who have said that in other "chapter" discussions. Not ONLY that, but it seems that you aren't even contributing to Moria's other technique ideas. All you seem to be doing here is trying to act cool by picking an E-fight.

When did this turn into an E-fight? Aldrich does have a pretty good point. The whole idea of Moria hiding his true form with a puppet does sound a little off. I'd much rather see more shadow powers than "RAR I ANGRY I REVEAL TRUE FORM!" Fat Moria works, plain and simple.

Barring his head, I like Moria's design, and would rather it didn't change. If he did open up, it's be more likely that he was filled with shadow or something. Frankly, I'd love the possibilities of Moria using other shadows from objects and such as weapons. Even better if he had some physical fighting ability, and could double-team his opponents, making them fight both him, and Doppelman at the same time.

Moria is awesome win no matter what he does, and whatever crazy shit Oda comes up with, I'll probably enjoy. I think another possibility is Moria may be able to switch place with his shadows, as in Luffy is about to attack Moria, and BAM, his shadow is there instead.

ok, now that your cards are on the table, I'm going to go ahead and agree with Aldrich. That is a stupid idea. I mean his ability is shadows. Having him be a puppet inside would be unnecessary.

We've barely seen the basics of his shadow manipulation, of which so far I am really enjoying. I don't see how you are complaining that he isn't powerful enough from the whole 4 pages weve seen him fight(all in a badass reclined position mind you)

I also like his character design. We don't need more generic "kewl dudes" like lucci and every naruto character. We need more clowns with shoelaces tying their chins together.

This idea borders "Hatori is controlling Lucci like a puppet" retardation.

By Oda? As previously stated the only instance I can remember Oda telling us anything about the bounty system is through Aokiji, saying it's not only about strength… Which I never denied. But it's still MAINLY a powerlevel ranking. Being stated "a hundred million times" by internet manga nerds is worth jack.

So ussop could take arlong?(same bounty as luffy's initial one) and Chopper has a powerlevel of 50?

It's your strength and threat level in the eyes of the government. Luffy didn't get stronger between arlong and croc, he just beat a more significant figure in the government's eyes. Just like zoro got a bounty for fighting bounty hunters, which caught the governments eye, unlike getting them for beating undeground criminals.

It's not a powerlevel ranking, because those are useless in one piece, since fights rarely come down to physical strength.

And most of those who have a bounty on their head are a threat to the WG because they're powerful superhumans who can't be dealt with easily by the Marine or CP9. There can be exceptions like Robin (though she still is a powerful fighter and her bounty doesn't seem to contradict her powerlevel), but not everyone with a large bounty on his head got it because they can resurrect world destroying weapons and expose the WG for the lying despots they are.

That isn't what we mean by "threat level". Basically bigger bounties attract bigger and better bounty hunters. The government gives bounties on their estimation of how strong they think the targets are, and what kind of money would interest a hunter who can take them. It is by no means supposed to be an accurate measure of their strength, since luffy when he was 30,000,000 could still take enel, and croc, and other enemies he beat up to enies lobby, which was the first time the mugiwara's were rivaled in physical ability, so it was the first time they stepped up their game or "leveled up" really.

And how can you "piss off the man" in a shonen mainly based on one on one fights? Luffy got his bounty cause he was strong enough to destroy a thousand Marines, two CP9 and escape a Buster Call alive. Had he been weaker, his "declaration of war" would have ended with him being turned into minced meat and he'd have stayed a 100 million berries worth pirate for the entirety of his short life.

…...wtf? Don't see your point. We aren't arguing that luffy isn't worth 300,000,000, but that his power level isn't 300,000,000. He got a bounty update BECAUSE he was blamed for destroying enies lobby, not because the government read that number off their scouters.

Of course he's the most powerful character with a known bounty seen so far. He's a fucking lightning Logia with pseudo psychic powers and the ability to blow up islands.

Yea, but the only reason he got away with so much was because of how closed off the sky islands were from the rest of the world. On the Blue Sea he would have been strong, but he wouldn't have been all powerful since lightning is probably easier dealt with on the blue sea, since they have to deal with thunder storms and there are just stronger people. I mean Oda stated himself that lucchi could beat enel(rubber gloves probably), and really, if you gave ace or aokiji a god complex and slapped them on an isolated island, they would have seemed all powerful too.

Moria needs a skin outside, similar to a shell, a drawback of having the Kage Kage no mi is that he can't go into the sun, similar to shadowless people, so in order to survive he needs a skin around him, even if TB is shadowy, he plans on going to the New World eventually, so he planned to put it on him so he can work well with it, and not be slow and clumsy.
@ Kamei - I agree, that would be really surpising. He's probably a Yonkou though, so why would he be around TB?

After Jimbei, who do you think the next shichibukai we get more info on will be (not fight, just info, or both). I'm gonna put my money on either Kuma or the final shichibukai.

What do you think Hawkeye's former bounty might be, and do you think someone might try to get Luffy to replace Crocodile?

I suspect Hawkeyes bounty is probably up in the 600s. And yeah, if word gets out that Luffy kicks Moria's ass, even though he is still a shichibukai, Luffy will definitely be thought of as a recruit. It would be cool if the weakest admiral came to request him, Luffy refuses and then a fight starts/

I think that Yellow Monkey Admiral might be a good match against Luffy, since they're both monkeys and all, lol. Well, that's just me hoping.

Anyway, about the Nami can't fight Jimbei thing. Franky might be a better match? He's quite strong and it feels like a good match.
