Dr. Mario is a higher tier than Mario. Things like Down Throw into f.air, which'll kill the opponent with Dr. Mario, as to simply Meteor Smashing with Mario, is one of the many reasons.

Smashboards is filled to the brim with uptight competitive Smash fans and the like. From the looks of things, people here don't really care for that type of Smash Bros. fan.
But you have to realize, that with Wario being the "evil" Mario, an "evil" Luigi was bound to be created eventually.
Yes but Wario actually HAS some development that makes him more than just "evil Mario". Waluigi, on the other hand, is just wasted on Mario Party cameos. I've yet to see Nintendo throw him into a real platformer game or the like. It's not like Wario spent his entire career doing the Wario Ware games. (The reason he's in his Wario Ware brand biker garb is to shut everyone up that keeps identifying him as "evil Mario". He's more about grabbing treasure being greedy. Remember "Greed is good. It will get you everything, even if you have to piledrive your enemies to do so.")
Now let's hope they get Metaknight's profile done soon. (And maybe at least confirm some more characters. I'm still worried DK won't be returning, and if he's not returning, we can kiss the chances of Diddy appearing goodbye)

Rootbear asked for an explanation, so Gohn gave him one. If he wasn't interested in knowing about it, he wouldn't have asked.
There's no that Donkey Kong is going to be absent from this game. He's iconic as fuck, is a very unique character, and is an all-around badass.
And yet DKVine/Donkey Kong Universe still bitches about how they've yet to show any evidence of him being in this game.
And how poorly represented the franchise has been since Jungle Beat. (Outside of what Paon has been doing for it like King of Swing, the upcoming DK Jet and King of Swing DS/Jungle Climber games)
Again, Donkey Kong isn't my primary concern. But really, many people, me included, want Diddy Kong to be in this game and a lack DK kinda makes me question it.
If there has to be another franchise I'm worried more about not getting any evidence other than the DKC franchise, it's probably the Mother/Earthbound franchise. I want to see some Mother 3 characters in this installment especially.
There's technically been no evidence of Bowser or Peach either, but we know they're coming back. Why? They're fucking Bowser and Peach.
Donkey Kong is riding the same boat.
But you have to realize, that with Wario being the "evil" Mario, an "evil" Luigi was bound to be created eventually.
I like the fact Luigi is getting his own "evil rival" and "possible love interest". I've always preferred him to Mario.
Course, Wario is better than both of them.
Wario was always more than "evil Mario." Waluigi…. not so much.
Making him and giving Luigi a "love interest" was kind of retarded. But oh well.
"I hope she brings lots of spaghetti!" (sorry: with all the Luigi talk, someone had to say it)
REMEMBER…
Where there's SMOKE... there's SMOKE
I wonder what people think about Daisy. She actually has been in a platformer (Super Mario Land) and has been developed as being a sports-loving tom boy.
I like the idea someone posted a while back about Daisy and Pauline being alternate costumes for Peach (what'd be even better is if the name actually changed with the skins as well, instead of having Peach simply look like Daisy in Melee)
Also I wonder why anyone would worry about DK not returning. He's one of the bigger Nintendo mascots, AND all the legal issues with Rare have been solved so that means not only do we get DK BUT we now have hope of seeing Diddy, Dixie, K. Rool and the rest respresented in some way.

I'd prefer to avoid that site alltogether.
And what the h-e-double hockey stick is a tier?
I don't really understand the Waluigi hate here, but I guess that's just me. I never really thought of him as Luigi's evil counterpart so much as Wario's partner - if anything, he's more there to make Wario seem more like Mario than to have a counterpart to Luigi, in my opinion. I think I mostly just like him because he and Wario together kind of remind me of Dastardly and Muttley from the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, both because of their moustaches and because of their bumbling antics (from what little we've seen of them).
I guess I do see how he can be seen as tacked-on, though. I just hope that in the next major Wario game he plays some sort of role in it.
Daisy, however, is even worse than bland and tacked on: She's irritating as hell.
I like the idea someone posted a while back about Daisy and Pauline being alternate costumes for Peach (what'd be even better is if the name actually changed with the skins as well, instead of having Peach simply look like Daisy in Melee)
If they could do that and put the Koopalings in the game I'd be one happy fanboy! One animation set, but seven alternate "costumes" and none of this Bowser jr. shit!

There is a highly elaborate metagame for SSBM. Despite this game being intended for basically all audiences, the developers included a generally hidden aspect of the game that includes various tricks. The tricks are rather difficult and require practice to master. If you want some example videos, head over to youtube and search for DBR SSBM combo videos. DBR is a group of talented smash players that have compiled combo videos.

There's much more to this game then meets the eye.
In layman's terms, the designers goofed up on the games' mechanics and a bunch of greased up GameFAQs drones spent hours analyzing them to perfect the ULTIMATE PLAYING STYLE TO DESTROY ALL ENJOYMENT
… -Forehead Palm-
Yeah, because creating tiers is comparable to ruining the game. Guilty Gear is definitely ruined because the players take time to arrange the characters into tiers. Oh, just ignore the fact that the game is extremely balanced and fun.
Yea.
They are glitches, not tricks.
and they were accidents, not intentional.
and all side-kicks get an evil clone?
I don't see metal tails or Shades the two-tailed fox.
Waluigi's biggest fail is that he debuted in a tennis game, so no explanation where the fuck he came from. Same with daisy.
I find the extra stuff fun. Each to his own.
Yea.

Well, Daisy had some sort of introduction back in one of the old super mario land games. She was the princess of an alternate world and she was kidnapped by an alien or somthing like that. Yeah, no similarities with Peach at all.
Edit: yeah, guy beneath me said it better.
Waluigi's biggest fail is that he debuted in a tennis game, so no explanation where the fuck he came from. Same with daisy.
Daisy debuted in Super Mario Land, and she was also featured in the Super Mario movie although that's really more of something to use against her lol.
She rules the Sarasa Kingdom, a desert kingdom (which is why she was tan in the past) and when she was kidnapped by the evil alien Tatanga, Mario set out to rescue her. And since then she's been shown as being a tom-boy, who enjoys playing sports, and for some reason she lost her tan. (Probably spent too much time in the Mushroom Kingdom with the rest)
She may be nothing but a party game character now, but she DID debut in a non-party game, and she does have a backstory and all that.
My mistake then.
I thought about the movie having a daisy, so she must have been in some game earlier, but too lazy to edit my post. =P
Tiers don't mean shit when you fight with weapons
2 questions
around what time did everybody start saying screw weapons and start fighting in one on one matches for who hones the best skill?
do they host regional tournaments with items involved ?
Fox special moves addded!

As a long time fan of Luigi, I actually think the opposite. I'd personally love to see games where Luigi saves Dasy and has to fight off Waluigi.
Anyway, I love how they've upgraded Fox's reflector move.
With the new info on Fox's blaster, it pretty much spells doom for Falco coming back with the same moveset.
…what info is new? It sounds exactly the same as before.
Did you read the bottom? It just talks about the reflector and laser gun.
Yes, but they sound exactly the same as before.
Maybe they're giving out the pros of Fox for people who never really used him?

Yes, they do. Items don't suddenly make Fox a worse character.
It was actually an idea of constant debate. Generally, East Coast players wanted tournaments to have items, while West Coast players did not. Essentially, what eliminated items from tournaments were things like Bob-ombs and Exploding Capsules, since they can literally spawn right in front of you while you're attacking.
No, they don't.
And Fox's blaster is exactly the same as it was in Melee.
Fox's special moves look awesome.
My favorite special move of Fox is the reflector.
@Cyringohn:
Exploding Capsules, since they can literally spawn right in front of you while you're attacking.
You know, this has happened to me quite many times. The first time it was pretty funny - my friend was laughing his butt off - but not so much anymore when it happend for the second time and from there on it was just plain annoying until I just figured to say sayonara to all items in the game.
I was wondering what that thing was. But it's a device for reflector! Makes sense as the shape is the same exact.

Oh, it's hilarious. Happens to one of Gohn's friends all the time. He'll do a dashing attack with Yoshi, then a Bob-omb will appear right in the front of him and trigger from the attack.
But when you're trying to have a serious match, losing because some stupid Capsule decided to spawn on top of you and explode is a bitch.
@Cap'n:
Yes, but they sound exactly the same as before.
It specifically says Fox's blaster is different, more like Falco's. That's all I'm saying.
All it says is (accompanied by a picture):
The design of Fox’s blaster has also changed.
Meaning an aesthetic change. And it does look pretty cool.
He also goes onto describe the laser's rapid fire and non-flinch inducing shots - hey! just like in Melee!
I haven't played Melee in awhile so I probably did just read into it wrong. Sorry 'bout teh mix up.
Yeah. In Melee, Fox had the balanced laser, while Falco was lucky enough to get the cheap as fuck one.
New stage Lylat Cruise!
Wow. This game gets more and more impressive every single day. Lylat cruise looks beautiful; and I imagine that the many nights that my friends and I will spend playing this game non-stop through the night will be riddled with screams of "What the fuck?!" and "Holy shit, friggin' spaceship battle dudes we're friggin' dead!" as a result of extreme sleep deprivation wherein absolutely everything is suddenly funny for no good reason.
What a great way to end a week of awesome updates.
Laylet Cruise looks completely and utterly amazing. I can't wait to play on it.
This stage looks absolutely gorgeous. Also love Sakurai's preventive anti nerds comments.
Anticipation for E3 + 9999
Lylat Cruise looks breathtaking.
EDIT: Wow, that was such a horrible [and unintentional] pun.
Wow the Lylat Cruise looks awesome!
I'm wondering if you can fight on the ship longways at some point… (Just so we could have a possibly Long Stage on our hands...)
"How are they breathing? And why is there gravity? I suggest that you not worry about it too much."
This quote defines today's update. All in all, it was a great week for updates, and it makes me look forward to E3 even more!
If this had been a One Piece chapter spoiler, people would be complaining about the impossibility of breathing in space.
Even though there's a giant pink marshmallow fighting a human-sized fox and a human boy with angel wings.
Now that I think about it… A Nintendo/Smash Bros pirate crew in OP would be pretty cool.
-Captain/Doctor: Mario
-Swordsman: Link
-Gunner: Samus
-Cook: Kirby
-Carpenter: Donkey Kong
-Quartermaster: Wario
-Navigator: Tingle
-Musician: the Ooendan guys
That was my embarassingly nerdy ramble of the week, thanks for your attention.
Having Wario in charge of dishin' out punishments sounds hilariously fitting.
Tingle, navigator? shudders Maybe Tetra. >_>
It looks like they got rid of Great Fox finally, though.
