Just saw it and I have to say I'm a bit dissapointed. It's still entertaining, but not nearly as good as the other 2.
I think the main issue I had with the movie was that it didn't know what to focus on; there was no real direction anywhere. Was the focus rescuing Jack? oh no wait it's fighting Davy Jones, oh no wait it's bringing together the pirates, oh no wait it's fighting Davyy Jones, oh wait….calypso? where the hell did that come from?
It was too all over the place, and too much was brought in and barely expanded upon. The Calypso story was only briefly mentioned at one point, but then it became a major plot point towards the end. Why did that annoying little British man have this big dramatic march of death, but Norrington (much more important) was basically ignored? They didn't focus enough on Davy Jones or Will's dad as much, despite those two being big focal points of the second film and playing an integral part in the story. And after all the Pirate Lord mumbo jumbo, we barely even get to see them in action.
There just wasn't any focus, because they crammed so much in there. I could see people around me in the theater getting lost throughout most of the movie.
Once the Pirate Lords finally had their meeting I was basically happy from then on. The Maelstrom was amazing, and even the wedding scene was strangely entertaining, and then the ending was great as well.
What I think should've been done is for the 3rd movie to focus on rescuing Jack, and the group facing a ton of different legendary pirate lore inside of Davy Jones' Locker. (They could focus on alot of magical supernatural stuff, as well as better introduce the Calypso plotline and not just throw it in randomly) Then they could do a 4th movie, where the group has to unite the Pirate Lords and go to war.
But too late now, hopefully when they make the the 4th one (it's more than likely gonna happen) they'll just start completely new with no carry over. Have Jack and JACK ONLY go search for the fountain of youth, with a completley new set of characters and a new set of storylines.
