Yeah, they are introduced here.
I don't think Viz'll mess up Chopper's backstory, then again these people have Mokuba Kaiba calling his brother by their last name in Yu-Gi-Oh!

It would be pathetic for Viz to mess up Chopper's backstory, especially since that's one of the things least messed up by 4kids.
Other notes:
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo starts at chapter 110, during the Cyber City arc. Just one chapter in the issue, and no special name like "Cyber City Chapter 1" or anything.
Next issue will be the last issue for Shaman King. After that, it goes to bi-monthly volumes.
The issue mentions that one the current manga is going to reach it's natural end soon, although it dosen't say which(HnG?), and it also gives mention to the mystery manga that will be put in the magazine soon.
Well I believe Yu-Gi-Oh is near the end so that may be the manga they're dropping.
Thats awesome news about shaman king its one of three mangas I regularly follow (yu gi oh and one piece being the others)
remind me though bi monthly means one every two months right?
@shining:
remind me though bi monthly means one every two months right?
Yeah, once every two months.
How many chapters did Bo-bobo have?
Heh, 'fraid I can't join in the current conversation since I can never find Shonen Jump in shops.
So, tell me… how painful would the death be if I were to say I actually like the official translations?
You would get a slap on the wrist and some overenthustiastic fanboy against the official translation would spit in your hamburger when he makes it at your favourite fastfood resturant.
its just a manga =P
@The:
So, tell me… how painful would the death be if I were to say I actually like the official translations?
In my eyes, you'd ne left alone. As far as I'm concerned, if the general gist is the same, then it's a fine translation. Besides, I believe I once heard heard someone say that two different translators can translate one line of text slightly differently. No offence but I think people get a bit to bent out of shape because Luffy says "The cat sat on the mat" instead of "The cat put it's arse down on the mat". The content is the same, but the wording is a little different.
I see… I was expecting a sword through the groin, or something like that.
Looks like we were right, Shonen Jump Evolution is a bunch of titles leaving, and bunch of titles taking their place in the magazine.
over at ANN:
Viz Media announced SJ Evolution, a multi-month makeover for the American Shonen Jump magazine. The Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo slapstick comedy manga begins serializing in the July issue, while the Shaman King mystical adventure will end its serialization in the August issue. Viz had previously released excerpts of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo in the September 2005 and November 2005 issues of Shonen Jump, as well as a compiled volume of the series in November 2005. The magazine also confirmed that another unspecified title will end serialization and a new title will begin in the November issue. The previously announced Naruto Nation campaign is also part of Shonen Jump's transition.
I wonder if the unspecified title happens to be One Piece. The november issue is 4 issues away yes? Hmm…...One Piece would be just about ending the Drum Island arc roughly around that time wouldn't it?
It's 16 chapters away from being finished with Drum, and it's got 4 issues (at least 12 chapters) perfect timing to leave SJ if you ask me.
Alabasta (on a bi-monthly release) would finish it's run in exactly one year, and they could eventually catch up to Funi's new dub. (having them closer together works better for both sides, especially Viz's)
For those following the series, is Shaman King ending it's SJ run on a clean note, or right in the middle of something?
I remember that Viz is where the characters met Chocolove and Viz change his name to Joco(like the 4kids dub) and they edited his lips
YGO is on it's final ten or so chapters so I surmise it will be the series leaving JUMP soon.
EDIT:
Right now 137 chapters have been published (the first ffiteen chapters worth of material plus the first chapter of volume sixteen) in the magizine. If Viz Media was to end publication at chapter 153 then about two chapters of material would be left in volume seventeen that would need to be published. What Viz could do is just publish up to 153 and then leave those two chapters to be included in the volume. That means fifteen chapters would need to be published IF begining with Volume eighteen they wanted to do bi-monthly releases. Right now eight chapters from volume sixteen need to be published. Will Viz do four chapters per issue for two months or reduce the chapters to two per month, or do three chapters for two months and two chapters for one month? Then again, if you add in the ten chapters of volume seventeen into the mix then there would be eighteen chapters, which is basically six months of material if they continued on the path of three chapters per month.
Because volume sixteen is promised to us November 6, 2007 we can assume that from where we are now (the July issue) Viz will need to have published those remaining eight chapters of material for volume sixteen like so…
August:
138. Summit (頂上, Chōjō?)
139. Enter Tony Tony Chopper (トニートニー・チョッパー登場, Tonītonī Choppā Tōjō?)
140. Castle in the Snow (雪の住む城, Yuki no Sumu Shiro?)
September:
141. Quack Doctor (ヤブ医者, Yabuisha?)
142. Jolly Roger and Cherry Blossoms (ドクロと桜, Dokuro to Sakura?)
143. Unskilled (不器用, Bukiyō?)
October:
144. Snowy Tale (雪物語, Yuki Monogatari?)
145. Carrying on His Will (受け継がれる意志, Uketsugareru Ishi?, lit. Inherited Will)
146. Battle in Defense of Country (国防戦, Kokubōsen?)*
*A small possibility, but let's look at how seventeen will come out...
November:
147. Outright Lie (ウソッパチ, Usoppachi?)
148. You Can't Break It (折れない, Orenai?)
149. Rumble!! (RUMBLE!!, Rumble!!?)
December:
150. Royal Drum Crown 7-Shot Bliking Cannon (ロイヤルドラムクラウン7連散弾ブリキング大砲, Roiyaru Doramu Kuraun Nana-ren Shotto Burikingu Kyanon?)
151. The Skies of Drum (ドラムの空, Doramu no Sora?)
152. Full Moon (満月, Mangetsu?)
Jan. 2008
153. Hiruluk's Cherry Blossoms (ヒルルクの桜, Hiruruku no Sakura?)
154. To Alabasta (アラバスタへ, Arabasuta e?)
155. Sir Crocodile the Pirate (海賊 サー・クロコダイル, Kaizoku Sā Kurokodairu?)
There's a strong possibility that we could, in 2008, have One Piece GNs go bi-monthly! Or at least Alabasta by Feb. 2008.
I dunno, seems like it'd be unecessary to make Yugioh a part of this SJ evolution since it is ending anyway. They send "ending serialization" (implying a series that'll keep going) and not just ending, which Yugioh will be doing.
Hopefully we'll get word on what title it is soon.

They have been mentioning 'a series that will meet its natural end.'

Hopefully that series (obviously Yugioh) and the unspecified title ending it's serialization soon aren't the same one.

I don't see that happening. YYH and HnG are in the middle of thier story arcs so I'm sure that YGO is the only series actually leaving.

Which leaves One Piece, which ends its current arc right around the time that new title will be coming in.
Since Shaman King is leaving one month after Bobobo gets started, maybe OP could leave one month after the new title shows up. New title is in November, and One Piece ends Drum in December which is perfect timing to end OP's serialization.
That's why I asked where Shaman King will be ending, it would tell us how much they care about what point a series is at when they remove it from the magazine. If SK ends its run at a random note right in the middle of something, then that leaves the entire lineup (except Naruto) as possible titles leaving soon.
If they plan on ending Yugioh AND removing another current title, then maybe 2 new titles would come into the magazine.

Knowing VIZ, they'll prolly leave YGO's slot open for stuff like previews and extra chapters for other manga coughnarutocough which is sad, I'd really like two new manga to be serialized in it. Hopefully they'll preview Neuro at some point, it'd be a shame to not bring it stateside.
One Piece possibly being bi-monthly. Hmm. Like with Shaman King, I'm 50/50. On the one hand, hurray! I'll be able to complete my volume collection at a much quicker rate than it's going now. However I'm slightly disappointed at the series probably being muscled out by Naruto.
In the July issue, there was only talk of a series reaching it's natural end, not another series joining Evolution like Shaman King.
Although I could be wrong. Viz may reveal to us One Piece going bimonthly in a few months or so.
I'm surprised this issue didn't mention FUNi getting One Piece. There was a cestpool of Naruto articles as usual but nothing about the new dub. Maybe in the August issue…
I doubt it. Since they don't have the lisence, I doubt they'll even report it.
But surely mentioning the new One Piece dub would take away precious Naruto article space, causing annoying twelve year olds to strom the Viz offices with their plastic Zabuza swords.
(probably sounded better and funnier in my head)

They report about black cat though (funimation)

Americans love Naruto. It's the only series they care about. I still say that if it wasn't for the word ninja Naruto would not even be a fad.
I would think they'd at least put it in as an informative article or lot of SJ readers/dubbies are going to be very confused come August.
And Viz overrates Naruto to the point where it's sickening. They didn't even whore out Yugioh this much when that was their main manga.
I'm sure there'll be some kind of announcement on Cartoon Network come July-ish, that's a given. At the very least we could expect something like the DBZ uncut adverts, "One Piece as it was meant to be seen" or some such.
Viz might mention it in SJ, but it'll probably be in passing ad not the focal point. Something like:
"One Piece, now liscensed by Funimation, will have all new adventures on Cartoon Network coming this August! Pirates head into the sky, yada yada"
Anywho, after getting a look at the issue, I guess Yugioh is very likely the title mentioned, but still, looking at the schedule One Piece could still possibly get a bi-monthly release come 2008.
I doubt this whole evolution thing will end with just Shaman King and Yugioh leaving, and Naruto getting even MORE chapters. One Piece really would benefit by catching up to where the dub is.
If One Piece starts going monthly in Aug or Sept then I better be prepared. If this is true we might get to Thriller Bark faster by 2009

Agreed, but then again why isn't the (far better) series "Flame of Recca" just as popular? I can't say I've heard anywhere near the same level of hype for it that Naruto has.
And Viz overrates Naruto to the point where it's sickening. They didn't even whore out Yugioh this much when that was their main manga.
Agreed. I wonder how Viz will handle the series if Naruto's popularity drops. I've heard a large number of people say the series starts to slump after the exam arc, and personally I'm quite interested in seeing what Viz does if the popularity declines (though unfortunately I doubt that will happen).

I agree. Why else would people want to read the manga if they're seeing story arcs they saw x months ago animated?

As much as I'd love to see One Piece go monthly (and with the large number of volumes, it really should), Viz has stated they don't intend to do another monthly series.
Agreed, but then again why isn't the (far better) series "Flame of Recca" just as popular? I can't say I've heard anywhere near the same level of hype for it that Naruto has.
Because Flame of Recca is an old school series and isn't a complete DBZ clone using the term ninja to make it seem good? After all last time I checked Americans also fap to Ninja Scroll and Ninja Gaiden.
whats wrong with ninja scroll?
whats wrong with ninja scroll?
Nothing. I'm just saying people don't know Flame of Recca has a ninja in it so they never really look at it. Meanwhile they'll see Ninja Scroll and fall for it instantly.
Besides the Ninja's in Ninja Scroll are a billion times the ninja any Naruto character could ever be.
Heck there are ninja in Samurai Deeper Kyo. Why isn't that a fad? Check the title. it's about Samurai's.
ah i missunderstood your post =P i couldnt tell if you were pointing out that people were drooling over anything with ninja in the title or if you didnt aprove of them =P thanks for clearing that up =)
btw: got any more ninja mangas without ninja in the title to reccomend? =P
Heck there are ninja in Samurai Deeper Kyo. Why isn't that a fad? Check the title. it's about Samurai's.
It's not about samurais, it's about awesome. Get it right next time n00besauce.

context… ah why do i bother its a lost cause...
(yes i did get that it was a joke)
It's not about samurais, it's about awesome. Get it right next time n00besauce.
Then shouldn't the title be Awesome Deeper Kyo?
but I never said it isn't awesome. Admittingly I have a hard time reading Tokyopop's version of the manga but I like the anime.
As for other series that have ninja's but without ninja in the title. How about Basalisk?
Seriously though, the only series that stars ninjas that I've heard of were Ninja Scroll and Naruto. Maybe I'm a little slow.
I still call Basalisk.
i read in a review it has nudity and "adult situations".. is this correct?
that might be a reason why it hasnt caught on in america as well as naruto has..
nudity is immoral… and mothers against canada does not approve (obscure reference to "southpark asses on fire")

Meh I would think there would be worse on Adult Swim and whatever they have on G4 these days.
I doubt the nudity is all that bad anyways. I mean heck they show Shin-chan on Adult Swim and they obviously have no problems with a 5 year old showing his penis on screen.
huh? adult swim? G4?
huh? adult swim? G4?
You're kidding right?
Oh by the way I checked out some of the Hunter x Hunter fights. The animation was so damn good it makes Lee vs Gaara look like crap.
no im kinda new to manga and i dont live in america.
i have no idea what thow 2 things are. could probably search for them but i have a nagging suspicion that i would get alot of hits on atleast adult swim….
and im lazy

Well Adult Swim is the adult block on cartoon network anime like Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Blood +, Trinity Blood, Wolf's Rain, InuYasha, FMA, Bleach, FLCL, etc. have been shown on there.
On G4 there was an anime block called anime unleashed. On there was stuff like Serial Experiment Lain, Duel Paralell Universe, Amenobashi, Betterman, NOIR, etc.
they are both channels? … hahha =P ofc i dont know about them then.
btw... sorry guys about haveing gone so much off topic =P
Adult Swim is actually part of Cartoon Network. It's usually aired in the evening, I think from about 10 Pm until about midnight. Not sure on G4 though as I don't live in the US.
really? the cartoon network my satelite provider (is that even a term?) provides me with shows travel channel from around 8 pm to 4 am…
