I personally loved their assult on her fortress, Phinx, Shalnark, and Feitan kicked serious ass.
Hunter x Hunter

Well, at least the quality is much better when you download the NexGear volume scantlations. Much, much better.
I love Hunter x Hunter, I really do. It has the best thought out, most comprehensive "ki" system in anything I've ever read. And nearly all the battles have so much thought and intelligence behind them - Hisoka's fights, for example, and Gon's fight with the Bomb Devil. It's a shame Togashi works solo, and therefore the series really suffers when he starts to get sick. And I dunno, on second read, the Chimera Ant arc doesn't seem so bad (the volume scantlations contribute to this feeling immensely) - it puts into context just how dangerous the HxH world is, and just how strong Gon and Killua have become. And I haven't had a manga send shivers of shock up my spine like it did at the end of chapter 199 in a long, long time - so it gets bonus points for that.
I just wish he was well enough to continue it.
-

Same here, though I still hope Feitan dies a horrible death at some point.
Also could anybody pm me a link where i could dl the scanlation volume 23 & 24? My internet sucks and I can barely search for anything eithout my internet crapping.

Now this is just poor.

It's black and I can't remember or understand what's going on =X
-SPOILER-
I was shocked a few pages after that one thought, when those two from the hunter exam died in such ways one after the other. Can't remember their names though..
I remember so little, I should reread all the manga. -
@Rai:
I remember so little, I should reread all the manga.
Yeah I liked Pokkuru and Ponzu too. Personally I like all the people from the hunter exam and Zoldick manor/Celestial tower villains/good guys more than the genei ryodan and the rest of the chimera ant arc characters.
And I miss Leorio A LOT D:
-
Well it's been one year since the hiatus started.
I don't read HxH but i found this interesting article.
-
Sweet article. Thanks Carter.
While we wait (forever) until the series resumes, does anyone else agree that Greed Island is the coolest arc?

Yeah, despite the lack of scenery in some instances. Devil Bomber was a clever SOB.
I've been catching up for some time now and at the risk of sounding noobish, I'm wondering how come the King Chimera Ant looks so much like Cell?
-
I'm about to give this series a shot since I hear good things about it. So I'm gonna watch the anime. I have one question, is the anime for the most part cannon? OVA also?
-

Yeah, but they really, really, stretch out the beginning. The first OVA was ok, but the Greed Island one… I liked the manga better.
-
yes, and you can't tell if there is filler or not, that's how damn good the filler is >.>
-

I'd say just read the manga. If you get hooked, you'll have to since everything past Greed Island is manga-only.
-
Last question, In what way is the Anime Greed Island Arc bad?
Thanks BTW
EDIT: I see now, I'll check the anime out for now and when I catch up, I'll switch to manga then. Then I'll probably go back and read from the beginning too.
-
I dind't think it was bad, it depends on someone's view on it…the G.I. arc is actually really good(anime)
I guess its cause I never read the manga part of it, but either way, I liked it a lot.
-
If Hunter x Hunter would finish it would be one of my all time favorites.
I really like the characters introduced in the Chimera Ant arc a lot. Knuckle, Shoot, Novu, Morau, the Chameleon guy, etc.
-
Im afraid that its gone the way of shaman king. Artist just not finishing it.
Difference between this and that tho, is that Hunter is good.

Thing is, the mangaka for Shaman King didn't just stop, there was just a decline in fans so Jump dropped it.
Thankfully, Jump never officially gave Togashi the boot.
As for that last part: Opinion, not fact.
-
i bet that togashi will never finish this series and that he'll never make a new one.
i'll consider that hxh ended at the end of vol 18 and that gon & killua met gon's father and not kaito.
-
then thats disgards th AMAZING half of the NGL arc which IMO is one of the better arcs in the series
York Shin > NGL > Greed Island > Celestial Tower > Hunter Exam
-
I've only read the 12 volumes VIZ released, but its one of my favorite manga at the moment. I love the simplistic and not too cluttered style of drawing he uses. Nen and other powers rae done well, battles don't drag and actually (GASP) serve a purpose!
-
you ain't seen nothing yet.
-

yea it is opinion, but judging that it got dropped…....
I liked the hunter exam better than celestial tower. Didnt like that arc at all
the current arc is the best tho imo.
Its been a year tho, I hope he plans on startign again soon.
-

yeah that's your point, as i find all the NGL stuff highly boring. i'll still agree that everything until the king is born is ok.
but man, NGL… it just feels like togashi started being bored and put random stuff in his manga.
definitely, i'll forget this part.
-
I agree that the entire NGL thing did feel random at first and only started to get readable about halfway. But it does get better once you're used to the unusual setting. The only thing that'll ever beat the Shin York arc is when it goes back to Kuroro, Hisoka, and the Spiders in general to tie up all the loose ends that were left.
-
To me it kind of seems like he gets bored of what he's doing often, beacuse he always shifts to something else. I mean, it even had a card game part for awhile. I don't mind though. It's kind of like he's putting every single idea he's ever had into Hunter x Hunter, since he will probably never do another series.
Or at least that's how I see it.
I like the current arc best by the way.
-
indeed Kurapica vs. Nobunaga, Hisoka vs. Kuroro (would probably be one of the best fights in manga history, if Togashi is on top form when writing it).
I probably just like NGL so much because of the cast, Morau, Novu, the Chairman, Knuckle, Shoot, woke up Killua, and Gon (in pissed off form) and Kaito and his weapon.
and I just recently re-read the whole manga and I could se that what is there for NGL would kick so much ass in animated form, The ryodan bit at the queen's place = WIN, Killua Gon and Kaito vs. the 1st wave, Gon and Killua later, Morau's 2 fights
sigh
-
Yeah, I like the characters introduced in the NGL arc a lot.
I like the designs of most of the ants too.
-
Thanks BTW
EDIT: I see now, I'll check the anime out for now and when I catch up, I'll switch to manga then. Then I'll probably go back and read from the beginning too.
I always found the manga to be better then the Anime.
-
I'm up to episode 13 now guys. Seems pretty average so far, but I do like the characters. Hope the story picks up in a bit.
-
IMO the anime doesn't get better until the final part of the Hunter exam, damn boring fillers everywhere. But don't give up, it's definitely worth watching.
-
I'm up to episode 13 now guys. Seems pretty average so far, but I do like the characters. Hope the story picks up in a bit.
13… huh. In the beginning episodes, they were going at a pace to make the chapters seem like full episodes. Even when One Piece was starting, Volume 1, 2, and part of 3 were summed up in 8 episodes. You've still got 19 episodes to go.
The Zoldycks Mini Arc (eps 32-36) was ok, but at Celestial Tower (37-44), Nen appears and it gets awesome when the story gets to Yorkshin.
-
Oh yhea….Hunter X Hunter.
I forgot it existed. X_X
-
The mangaka needs to go back to drawing school…from just before the ngl arc it starts getting bad... if he could have kept up his good artwork i would probably enjoy the ngl part. I would say Greed Island was the best arc, the whole card thing with all the spells was done really well. Waiting on chap 261.....Please bring this manga back!!!!
-
Read the volume releases not the Jump chapters.
-
I wonder if Togashi enjoys seeing his fans squirm like this. All I know for sure is that manga with a fanbase as big as this doesn't deserve to be left hanging.
-
Hunter is alot like one piece(in more ways than the following reason), The first few episodes are boring and generic shounen stuff, but after you get to a certain point, your hooked.
I read the manga tho, which is alot better.
-
Read the volume releases not the Jump chapters.
actually even the the ending of GI in the volume releases is bad art it takes 1 volume into NGL to get the drawing back up.
-
I think he means the censoring in later chapters.
I just laugh at that. i found it funny when killua was fighting the monkeys, and when he made one shoot the other there was a big block over him getting shot.
Art is the same tho. It declines near the middle/beginning, then picks up again towards the most recent chapter.
-
actually the art throughout most of NGL is pretty good it declines right before they attack (Novu's infiltration and Morau's second fight) and then picks up in the last couple chapters
-
Yeah, I was talking about how the first part of NGL was sketches and was updated in the volume releases.
-
Yeah, I was talking about how the first part of NGL was sketches and was updated in the volume releases.
that's the case of every chapter of hxh, in fact.
i don't know if you've read the greed island part on jump or volumes, but the quality on jump was reaaaally baaaad. i don't even get how jump can accept to publish work like that.
i know, he doesn't use assistants, but i'm sure that's mainly because he's lazy and always rushes to end his chapters, so he can't bring his stuff to anybody else than the publisher.
you know how every mangaka puts some discussion between them and their editors about this or thzt chapter? i bet it never happens with togashi. he gives the chapter the last second without any possibility for a second thought.
(frankly the whole "this was the ability of my friend~" with the surfing ant was the worst stuff i've ever read in hxh.)
-
Yeah, I read them. You could barely make out what was on the page and there were no backgrounds in lots of the frames.
-
I found both of Morau's fights awesome, and since the ants have been randomly killing people anyway its obvious some of them would be nen users.
-
For the ants, I liked the Sniper Flea Octopus guy's design/idea a lot. That's one that always sticks out in my mind.
-
indeed, which for the one where he had a body or his natural one?
I also liked Gon's 1st fight in NGL against that armadillo FUCKING EPIC!
-
Another nice touch was that Ponzu and Pokkuru reappeared again. Albeit, Pokkuru's interrogation creeped the hell out of me. Still, gives me hope that (if Togashi returns) we might see Hanzo again. That guy was pretty cool.
-
and it'd be Hanzo + Mastered Nen…......too awesome for words.
-
I was wondering, is this series still being published? I mean I love the characters and the theme of it (only upto vol 12) but I heard that its not going anymore, or its poor quality.
-
It's been put on hiatus. It isn't the first time either, but this is the longest it's gone on (over a year now). Not a lot's been said, but most stuff that is is just speculation from others. The quality portion in some of Togashi's later submissions (a little after 12, 13 I think) to Jump are pretty bad; the characters look like they're more on a sketchboard since they haven't been inked in. But those get revised by Togashi in his tanko editions. But I'm guessing that'd be conflicting with his newer chapters coming out. Perhaps he should hire a few assistants so he can focus on the characters.
