Here's the way I see it, kind of like an RPG:
There's a big unexpected villain at the end to fight. (Someone like Buggy maybe.)
This villain is killed/out of commision by a single attack by the REAL villain. (Blackbeard.) Then they do battle.Or even vice-versa, powerful villain Blackbeard, then a surprise one who's become uber-powerful since the last time.
I really like the theory of the hero defeating the so-called main villain only for another uber more powerful villain to suddenly show up.

That's uberly cliche, though.
The awesomest story I can remember is Dragon Quest IV. The main villain wasn't really a bad guy at the start; he was actually the one monster that opposed killing humans. But then his girlfriend (who weeped ruby tears) was beaten to death by bandits, so he went Apeshit and started murdering humans left and right.
The thing is, does Blackbeard have some ulterior motive? Does he have some tragic event from the past that drives him? Or it simply his own greed that drives him forward? Maybe Blackbeard's past will be revealed, and clear this up.
"Whitebeard stepped on and killed my cat Fluffy, so I killed one of his commanders and took the darkness fruit in order to get revenge by killing him and taking the title he has wanted for so long!…
... poor Fluffy, you were defenceless".
To be honest, I just see Blackbeard as plain evil. He has probably been influenced by a person instead of a tragic event.

Anyway, I think BB is the main villian. It seem like Luffy an BB have this whole Yin Yang thing going on. I think the arguement about the food and drink in Jaya was some kind of a foreshadowing. They both liked the thing the other didn't, they are in a way the total opposite to each other. But then the talk about dreams came which showed how they are similliar too.
In my eyes they are two persons that couldn't be further apart in their personalitys, but still both believe in dreams and have the same goal. Thats why I think they have to clash together in the end, since their roads are totally different but their goal is the same.
And BB is kinnda the perfect example of a pirate:
He hurts and kills people if needed, he steals without regret, he has dreams and doesn't have any big morality that would hinder him.
Luffy on the other hand is just to good.

Ganzak was such a penis-y villian. I want the main villian to be someone massivly important. Personally, I want to see Dragon be the main villian. His eyes are just so….evil.
Dragon doesn't seem like an evil guy… Well, kinda he does. He's trying to get rid of a corrupt governemnt, which is a good thing. But he's destroying countries where ( probably ) innocent people live, which is a bad thing... Hmmm.

Not gonna work because of a few reasons:
1. There is no reason for the war to take place anywhere near the end of the Grand Line. The marines got no real reason to go to Raftel, and since WB will kick their butts because the'll make BB shichibukai he doesn't have a reason to go there either as long as the WG doesn't pay. The revolutionaries don't really care about Raftel either, just want the WG to crumble.
2. Strawhats didn't really get alot of pirates that respect them (not anyone who would help them in a fight anyway): Buggys crew hates them, Kuro hates them, Arlongs crew hates them, Don Krieg hates them, Crocodile hates them, Bellamy if alive hates them, Foxy hates them, most of the WG hates them.
Anyone who respects them are people who had to be saved by them in the first place, and of course Shanks crew…......
The war will take place before the final confroation, maybe an arc or so away I think, Ace death\defeated will be the trigger an any allies will be more or les allies by chance.
But yeah, it will involve Pirates, WG, and Revolutionaries. Its just a question who will be on which side.

Okay, one of the final challenges will probably be the Sea Kings. What'd happen if Raftel is in the Calm Belt area? It'd be dangerous to rely on Nami's navigational skills alone so it'd be a battle against the monsters.
The final villain is going to be Blackbeard for Pirate King, but the final battle will either be Coby or Laboon.
Yeah, in the very end, everyone dies but Luffy, and he's about to reach One Piece, and he sees the chest open and,
Luffy: "What? This is…"
Then a roaming Sea King eats him and he dies.
I'm sure that Black Beard is the main villian. He's probably going to defeat White Beard in an intense fight, then go on to…hell, I don't know. Surprise us Oda. :D

Right now all the arrows point to Blackbeard as final villain. He's the only man besides Luffy who's clearly aiming to be Pirate King and actually setting things in motion to reach that goal.
And besides their mutual goal of being Kaizoku-ou, as many ppl said before, their characters are in a way different as night and day, but they share also a lot of similarities in their aspirations and dreams.

Forgot to mention Jinbei as a possible last deciding match… I know he's not likely right now, but who here honestly thought that Blackbeard could be turning out as the final villain when he was first mentioned in Drum.
We've known Jinbei since Arlong Arc and he's a fishmen, which means he's born stronger than humans. It was said that he was the strongest of the shichibukai, which might mean he's superior to Mihawk, who was the rival of Shanks, the man who is a Yonkou and is able to hold his own against the "Strongest Man in the World".
I will at least consider Jinbei as the last villain before he really enters the story and turns out to not be as dangerous as I suspect right now ^^

I'm tending to suspect that Jinbei could be the strongest Shichibukai... just because of the tiers of power we've seen.
For Jinbei to hold onto power long enough to become Schibukai, he'd have to be fairly strong, BY THE STANDARDS OF GYOJIN PIRATES.
Jinbei doesn't have to be particularly strong AMONG GYOJIN to be very strong when compared with humans at one-tenth the power. If he's only as strong relative to his own kind as Califa is, it still makes him stronger than Lucci when compared to a fixed scale. (61 times a typical gyojin at 100 douriki > 400 times a typical human at 10)
That's, of course, assuming that strength is all about douriki. I'd be unsurprised if Mihawk and Doflamingo were actually weaker than some of the other humans we've seen, but rely on spectacular technique.
I think Donflamingo or Mihawk are the strongest Shichibukai. But I'll exclude Mihawk since he's a swordsman, so it's hard to compare.
I still see Blackbeard as the main villian, and I see Dragon as a good guy; or neutral. Even though Garp and Luffy are on opposite sides, Garp still cares for Luffy. This makes Garp appear more of a good guy. I think the situation will be similar with Dragon. Dragon has helped Luffy get to grand line so he could "live free". He doesn't want to see his son die. Though as many have said, he could have helped Luffy for his own benefit only.
I don't think Dragon needs Luffy's help. I think he just wants to encourage Luffy to make his own ruckus; the Revolutionary Army doesn't necessarily have to profit off of that.

Yes but Straw Hat Luffy is becoming a problem to the World Government. The Pirate Era is becoming a bigger problem for the WG.
The Revolutionary can take advantage of the WG when most vulnerable.
But, as I've said, I still think Dragon cares for his son and wants him to enjoy life.

Obviously it's not going to be straight to Raftel when they get their, I'm sure everyone, especially Luffy will be happy and head straight for One Piece, but they;ll get sidetracked by a villain.
Coby isn't strong enough, nor has the willpower for the wrong reasons, he's actually a good person in the Navy and if you look you'll see the good people end up helping the strawhats in a way and/or arn't beat up because they are the Marines for the right reasons.
Blackbeard is certainly the most powerful, but I'm starting to think something cooler will come, but not Davy Jones, he's a dead pirate, well at least dead.
Perhaps the Gorosei will come in an arc a few arcs before Raftel.
Also I think we can all consider the Straw Hat itself a canidate.
Then consider:
Buggy, Oda's favorite Villain.
Smoker and Tashigi.
Possible Captain Kuro except he jsut seems to be wandering.
Are all chasing Luffy and his crew, or at least want revenge and we know what happened to them. We haven't heard from Krieg yet, and Arlong is reportedly in Jail.
Well, there are multiple evil factions in the series, so there isn't really a MAIN villian, but the one that poses the most threat takes the credit for main villian.

Luffy doesn't need to fight the World Government; the World Government will probably fall when the True History is revealed. Blackbeard may try to take advantage of that and seize the world, hence Luffy will have to stop him.

I don't think that there will be a 'main villain' in OP, since there are too many important people that haven't come into play yet. Hell, you could have made a valid argument for Donquixote Doflamingo before Blackbeard got his demon powers. Throw in the Gorosei, the Three Admirals, Garp, the other Shichibukai, and the other Yonkou along with the Blackbeard Pirate Crew. That's what I like to call a logjam at the 'Major Obsticles to Overcome' position.
(Note: That's not to say that they might eliminate each other (a lá Blackbeard v. Ace), but still. That's a TON of people)
However, if Oda wants to go that route of an Ultimate Bad Guy, it's a two way race between the Gorosei and Blackbeard. Maybe Luffy will fight Blackbeard and the rest of the crew would fight the Gorosei. Who knows?

The Gorosei aren't powerful enough, IMO. The Admirals and Sengoku will most likely be more involved in the actual battles than them. They will fall soon after the Admirals and Sengoku lose.

Yes… but Shanks doesn't seem the type to have a brutal fight-to-the-finish with Luffy. Maybe a Davy Back Fight! (Sorry for my fanboyishness.)
Luffy did say that he was going to get a crew that will beat Shanks crew! Also I beleive Shanks is looking for One Piece and so is Luffy…....they will have to fight for it.

But it's Blackbeard who will be the main villian because he is most similar and different than Luffy. It's hard to explain that.
But IMO, Blackbeard will surpass Whitebeard, thus surpass Shanks. Blackbeard, now he has injured or even killed Ace, is going to get his ass kicked by Luffy vengeance style.
The cherry pie incident was a great way to start a rivalry between two of the greatest pirates in the OP world.
