That crappy rap was done for after they added in Sanji.
Official 4kids Dub Thread Mk III (The End Has Come)
-
-
Ah, someone edited the thead title…
-
So, does this mean those 4kids DVD's are worth anything?
-
I hope Funimation gets OP and not Viz.
-
What I find even more odd is that the article (at least on ANN) links to the same page of the forums where Yashouzoid reported it….
And lol, I'm not credited even though my name is on the very first page
…
:getlost:

@Impel:

Don't tell me you're another one of those Bleachers who think Viz screwed the Bleach dub, cause if you are you should go get your head checked out.
-
Bleach dub was great.
Do not disagree or I'll beat you in a card game.
-

CARD GAMES ARE SERIES BUISNESS!
back on topic, yeah, the Bleach dub was great, no edits at all.
-
Don't tell me you're another one of those Bleachers who think Viz screwed the Bleach dub, cause if you are you should go get your head checked out.
I have no problem with the Bleach dub and yet I agree with him entirely. Viz is a good dubbing company in the sense that they make very few edits, but I find their voices to be a tad on the boring side. That's okay for serious moments and serious characters, but I expect ridiculous and insane voices for One Piece. I would even prefer the 4Kids theme voices over just another a re-cast of the Naruto or Bleach cast. Hell, if they could just act, the 4Kids theme voices would have been great (excluding those of main characters like Sanji and Robin).
Also, Viz has the annoying habit of pronouncing the names of characters waaaay to Japanese-y, which sounds incredibly awkward in the middle of sentences - I seriously cringe every time I hear "Odihime" (<- overexaggeration) in the Bleach dub. If you're speaking English, you pronounce a name in English, you don't switch to another language for one word. I didn't call my friend Juan "hu-an", I called him "wan" because it flowed better. Because of that, I think I would prefer Zolo over Zodo.
However, if Funimation attempted a dub like their DBZ dub, with largely varied voices (excluding the horde played by Christopher Sabat) despite how close they were to the original character, I would be quite happy. I would rather a completely different, zany voice for almost any character in One Piece (exceptions include Crocodile and Lucci) as opposed to one of the cookie-cutter voices in, say, the Naruto dub.
-
after considering, I think I also would like Funimation to get the dub… but to be honest, Ill jst be happy that 4kids doesn't have it. Im going to be doing a rehaul on the site soon and have info on who to write to and where and such.
-

In all the time that I've been watching the BLEACH dub, I think the pronounce the names just fine.
Also, the reason for that subtle "d" sound is because in the Japanese speech, all of the "R" sounds are produced with the tip of your tongue touching the roof of your mouth, as opposed to the sound being made in the back of the throat. In fact, in my experience, that actually makes the "Orihime" easier to pronounce.
Regarding One Piece, I'll be happy if Viz, Funimation, or really ANY respectable anime company picks up the show after the license expires.
4kids made quite a mess here, and its gonna take a quite a while to clean up.
-
I just hope if FUNimation does pick up the series, they don't put it in their "FUNiscope" bullshit.
-
I hope FUNimation gets it for variety's sake. They only have one dub on basic cable right now that I'm aware of, and that's Trinity Blood. Eureka Seven is Bandai, Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha, are all Viz properties. The Dragonball Franchise is FUNimation, but I don't think any renditions are playing on basic cable as of now.
It's time FUNimation acquires another huge property, and this time dubs it right, the way it should be dubbed, to show those people who hate FUNimation for the original DBZ dub that they DON'T do that kind of editing nowadays. Because as I hear, DBZ was dubbed by another studio a couple years before it was re dubbed by another studio and became a success, so FUNimation could acquire OP in the future, re dub it, and make it a huge success, because OP has potential, it's just untapped potential here in English speaking countries.
-
Well said Throes. However even with a good dub, a lot else has to be done due to the bad rep 4kids gave OP.
I don't expect any developments until 09' (I probably won't care anymore by then), but hopefully it'll be good should someone decide to dub it. Indeed, untapped potential.

Inuyasha ended, and the last DBZ related thing that appeared on Cartoon Network was the Wrath of the Dragon movie.

The ideal scenario, but like I said, its a far ways off.
Right now, I'm hoping that Black Cat and Beet:The Vandel Buster take off fairly well. Black Cat is a Funimation property and Beet is an Illumitoon property (which IIRC is a sister company of FUNimation, I know they're both related). Both are in the Shonen Jump line.
-
In Viz's defense, the way characters in Bleach (and other dubs fromm them) say names (with the more Japanese-y sound) is merely them trying to keep away the rabid overly obsessed fans who REFUSE to hear characters names pronounced without the accent.
Since those types of fans are more in the majority than people who don't mind names pronounced differently, Viz had to go with the majority. Just like how people were like "they're gonna ruin Naruto because it'll be pronounced naROOto"
Why subject themselves to any unecessary criticism.
-
-
Actually, they show the Cell saga of DBZ at 12:30am Fridays on CN. So it's still on.
Ugh… I'm not looking foward to waiting till 2009 for a new dub... If we even get one.
-
Hello!
I believe that a good dub will be worth the wait no matter how long it takes.
-

not over here it isn't dragonball z stopped being shown three years ago and the last dragonball related thing on was those horrible bluewater dubbed movies
-
Actually, while unedited and with awesome voices and all, the ONLY thing that got on my nerves with what I saw of the Bleach dub was the over-pronounciation of the Japanese terms (though I only saw a couple of episodes). Ichigo's last name sounded like Kulusaki. It just sounds unnatural to me,
I'd be happy with what FUNi did for YYH; necessary TV edits with 100% uncut DVDs, no name changes (but less stressed pronounciation), with some dialogue and EXTREMELY minor plot points changed but overall uncut (with seperate subtitles for the Japanese version because that kicks ass).
But I should stop ranting because really any dub that doesn't suck like the 4Kids one and has an at least bostly uncut version SOMEWHERE would be awesome.

O_O. Funimation got beet?! Awesome!!
I actually would like funimation to get it over viz. They both have great voice actors, but funi's seem a lot more lively. Though _________(cant remember who said this) brings up a good point on how funimation really doesnt go by the original voices. If funimation does get it, I really hope they are at least somewhat close.
Overall, Funi > viz for me.
-
I feel so happy I feel like kissing the ground right now and rejoicing to God that 4Craps finally gave up!
To to frank, I knew they wouldn't last long with all the bad rep they got, the many fillers, and the fact that One Piece is going on and on and on like the Energizer bunny! If you ask me, I really don't mind wiether Funimation or Viz gets One Piece.
Good things about Funimation - They dubbed anime like Dragonball/Z/GT, Sailor Moon, and Detective Conan, and all were well dubbed. Some like DBZ became very popular becuz of that.
Good things about Viz - Look at Bleach, Naruto, Zatch Bell, and BoBoBoBo-BoBoBo. Although three of them are aired on Toonami where grade schoolers can see 'em, they still kept all the episodes, threats (like Naruto's: "I'm gonna KILL YOU"), the original thememusic, and the blood. The only thing I've noticed deleted out was the cursing, which really doesn't matter to me as long as it sounds good. And becuz of all that look where Naruto and Bleach ended up in terms of popularity. I love Bleach, but I do have to admit they go a little bit overboard with the pronounciation of the names and terms. ^^; It's like if they pronounced them the American way, Japanese and Japanophiles would sue 'em.
So frankily I don't care which one gets to dub One Piece, I just want a good dub. Hopefully it ends up like Bleach on Adult Swim with the all the awesomely dubbed anime. NOT like how 4Craps already slaughtered it. But HALLELUIA I'm so glad they stop dubbing!! The fact that they stopped airing it was my first hint. SaveOnePiece.com saved it! Dude I love the banner they made. xD
-
Good things about Funimation - They dubbed anime like Dragonball/Z/GT, Sailor Moon, and Detective Conan–
Erhm…I don't think FUNimation dubbed Sailor Moon. :wassat:
–and all were well dubbed.
"STEP INTO THE GRAND TOUR!"
Yeeeeaaaahhhh….
While I'm not a fan of the DB trilogy dubs, they are a solid company with good releases...that don't have the words "dragon" and "ball" in their titles.
-
Oh Really? I thought they did. Well it was a great dub to me nonetheless. It was one of my fav anime back in the day.
"Step into the Grand Tour"?
Okay….I don't get it. -
"Step into the Grand Tour"?
Okay….I don't get it.That would Dragon Ball GT's dub "opening". It's just as bad as the OP 4Kids rap.
-
O_O. Funimation got beet?! Awesome!!
Illumitoon got Beet. They're a new company.
Although as it turns out, the relation to FUNimation is that the company is founded by three former executives at FUNi. And the company is based in Fort Worth, TX as well. So chances are, we'll be hearing some familiar voices.
Heres the press release if you wanna see it:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2006-07-12/beet-the-vandel-buster-coming-to-us@Brad:
Erhm…I don't think FUNimation dubbed Sailor Moon. :wassat:
Sailor Moon was dubbed by the _now defunct DiC. Actually, I think thats another one of those legendary God-awful-edited-to-hell dubs.
But somewhere down the line, I believe Pioneer (which is now Geneon) picked up the show, re-dubbed it, and released a few uncut DVDs…
"STEP INTO THE GRAND TOUR!"
DUHNUHNUHNUHNUH-DUHNUHNUHNUH! GRAND TOUR GRAND TOUR!
While I'm not a fan of the DB trilogy dubs, they are a solid company with good releases…that don't have the words "dragon" and "ball" in their titles.
I think DBGT was the only one that really really sucked. Then again, that show sucked on the whole._
-
@Brad:
That would Dragon Ball GT's dub "opening". It's just as bad as the OP 4Kids rap.
Oh yeah. I heard GT was the worst season anyway. Wonder if they have that "bad theme" in YouTube.
-
Sailor Moon was dubbed by the _now defunct DiC. Actually, I think thats another one of those legendary God-awful-edited-to-hell dubs.
Yep, DiC did the original Sailor Moon dub, and was notorious for doing the exact same things One Piece did. Replaced all the original BGM, changed characters' names, gave them weird accents (Naru/Molly was southern and Luna was British), and merged and/or completely cut out episodes. It's what got me into anime, so I can't fully hate it, but man, it sucked something fierce.
But somewhere down the line, I believe Pioneer (which is now Geneon) picked up the show, re-dubbed it, and released a few uncut DVDs…
Yep, Pioneer picked it up for the S/SuperS seasons, and released uncut subbed/dubbed DVDs. Pioneer did good things like retain the original background music, but their scripts were horrible. I remember hearing about ten cases of outdated slang in the first episode of SuperS (including Sailor Moon calling something "phat"). So really, as to who was worse, Geneon or DiC, it's a tough call…_
-
unreal, The German dub actually cut out GomuGomu No storm… and a ton of other things in that episode... wow even 4kids kept most of that stuff... wow
tried to fix it:
-
If any company is set on getting OP after 4Kids, it'll probably be Illumitoon (who I would like to invest in…); Toei has always been a aloof with their overseas anime properties since they're "the Disney of Japan", and as such, when they get a bad relationship (or percieved one) with certain companies, they go out of their way to side-step dealing with them.
Toei and 4Kids are probably finished, as is Toei with FUNimation; Toei was never on good terms with VIZ Media after the failure of Hana Yori Dango years past (which, I should note, is the biggest shoujo title of all time and the grandmother of all modern shoujo along with Sailor Moon); Illumitoon offers a fresh start for them.

Wait, did I miss something, when did Toei and FUNimation get on bad terms? Last time I checked, FUNimation successfully delivered Toei's media giant Dragonball Z to America, even releasing several versions of it, which the latest is going to be released in February, remastered in HD widescreen with the Japanese sound track being played in the background of the English voice track for the first time in an official English release.

tried to fix it:
What the hell was the reason for cutting the Gum-Gum Storm?! Was it, like, considered to be too much ownage for German kids to handle, or something?
LOL@Reverse-puberty!

I haven't posted on here for about a month… i've been busy. These two great vids are proof enough:
and Enjoy! Now let's see what you've been talking about!Originally Posted by Quexinos

The people who dub OP in Germany dub it uncut (I either read it somewhere or my German friend told me. Can't remember). RTL II edit it for younger audiences which makes sense since the muisc out of sync.

And the fact there are the first 6 eps still going around uncut makes it even better! To bad they never released vol 3 for the breakup between Funi and 4kids (I think)…
Oh, and I think that Viz should get OP for the Bleach, Naruto, OP thing. Just for compainsion, I think that Funi should get Death Note. I don't know why but I think they would do it well...
-
Now that 4kids stopped dubbing, I hope that the series gets popular through the manga.
I can hear a blood-curling scream from 4kids after they realize that no matter how much they edit, they really can't "protect" children.
-
you k now and you made me think of something
a lot of people are saying that if no one else picks up One Piece it will have never gotten a fair chance in America… but it's still here in the manga. So even if the anime never airs again, or no one else ever gets the rights, One Piece isn't going anywhere...now if only those darn kids would read =P
-
^ Yeah I'd wish people would read it more. I'm trying to get my friends to read it, but their with their shoujo/doujinshi crap and some of them love Naruto too much….
C'mon people One Piece is more awesome than you think.

xD Something told me they wouldn't last long. I also prayted they quit dubbing and making my friends make fun of it. I've just about had it with their hating on Sanji's voice. It mocks him and it pisses me off. Thank God the nightmare is over!
Viz Media or Illumitoon getting OP FTW!!! -

Viz Media or Illumitoon getting OP FTW!!!I've always had a feeling they'd end after Arabasta, but not like this, and especially not after dubbing into Jaya!
Things right now just don't add up. Why would 4kids just stop dubbing One Piece all of the sudden? Why would they stop after beginning to air another arc in other countries? Something tells me that 4kids didn't willfully stop dubbing the show, but were in fact forced to stop, and I'm thinking personally license revocation.
If things did turn out that way, Quexinos' response from 4kids about inquiring further questions to Toei would make sense, and that would also make the sudden halt in dubbing, and the removal of One Piece from all time slots (and probably all networks) make sense as well.
-
Toei is a really wierd company. Still, a DBZ quality OP dub would certainly be good. But, will 4Shame keep making the video games?
-
Hopefully not. They ruined them as much as they did the anime.
I hope whoever did the DBZ games can do the OP games. Especially the one for the Wii! -
Yeah, because the OP games are shit.
-
Blashpehimy! The grand battle series are excellent games!
Though thinking over more if viz did get it I hope it doesnt turn out like bleach voice wise. I like the voices in that show, though it seems like something is missing. It doesn't feel like as lively as the japanese version, which is why I think viz did a better job at dubbing naruto then bleach. Still though bleach is a good dub, just kinda missing something…
(Maybe because they arent in the good episodes yet..)
-
So… being gone for days on end from this forum... What'd I miss?
-
@ThegreatPirateKing:
Oh, and I think that Viz should get OP for the Bleach, Naruto, OP thing. Just for compainsion, I think that Funi should get Death Note. I don't know why but I think they would do it well…
Viz has Death Note don't they?
The complaint about Viz's overly Japanese-pronunciation of certian names and words….yeah its true but in One Piece's case there's really not alot of that. The only really Japanese-ish sounding names I can think over right now that might sound weird from Viz would be Tashigi and Aokiji, and as far as words go....there aren't too many.
Voices on the other hand, I agree Viz's voices don't work for a series like One Piece. W/E company does get One Piece should seriously considering keeping certain voice actors (all of the Strawhats would be fine with better voice direction, scripts and acting.....and without accents)
And Ilumitoon.....that's a new contender that I've never heard of. How is their dubbing work?
After looking them up it says they go after kid-friendly stuff....they aren't another 4Kids are they? Or are they like a good version of 4Kids?
-
If any company is set on getting OP after 4Kids, it'll probably be Illumitoon (who I would like to invest in…)
No joke, I briefly thought about that the other day….
Toei was never on good terms with VIZ Media after the failure of Hana Yori Dango years past
What of KnG/Zatch Bell?
@Impel:
Yeah, because the OP games are the shit.
Fixed
Viz has Death Note don't they?
The manga, yes. The anime still has yet to be licensed by anyone
And Ilumitoon…..that's a new contender that I've never heard of. How is their dubbing work?
They haven't released any dubs yet. Currently they hold the rights to Beet:TVB, Beat BtX, AM Driver (the last two I've never heard of), and the distribution rights to Bobobo. I feel confident about Illumitoon though, Its run by three former executives from FUNimation and they're based in Fort Worth, Texas. So we'll definitely be hearing some FUNi voices.
-
If Ilumitoon does dubbing for kids that's fine as long as they don't buy anime like One Piece and then butcher it to hell and back.
-
Just to note folks, no one knows how well Illumitoon dubs, but given they're in Texas, it's likely they'll have dubs simmilar to FUNimation.
On an additional note, the "anime companies" just distribute the anime, unless said companies are 4Kids, ADV, or FUNimation who dub their own stuff. VIZ Media, Geneon, and Bandai all farm out to different dubbing studios.
The people you lot have the biggest problems with is "Bang! Zoom! Entertainment" or "Ocean Studios".
I don't know what to make of Toei since they're the most illogical of the anime companies; arrogance and cost-reduction happens when a company gets big, which is why I always criticize the business of VIZ Media. Basically, though, it appears that despite how well FUNimation and 4Kids made their Toei properties profitable, it wasn't "good enough". Maybe Toei is looking at Pokemon as a benchmark, I dunno.
No joke, I briefly thought about that the other day….
It's not a question of capability for me, but feasibility. How does one invest in a private company?
What of KnG/Zatch Bell?
That was sent out to ShoPro, which at the time of licensing was seperate from VIZ Media.
-
It's not a question of capability for me, but feasibility. How does one invest in a private company?
Hell if I know! Keyword there was 'breifly'. I breifly thought about it until I realized I didn't know a damn thing about buying stock
And Thanks for the Zatch Bell info, I had forgotten about ShoPro.
-
Toei was never on good terms with VIZ Media after the failure of Hana Yori Dango years past
Whatever the case, Viz is now part of Shueisha who owns One Piece, so I wouldn't doubt that would have some effect.
-
@Impel:
Toei is a really wierd company. Still, a DBZ quality OP dub would certainly be good. But, will 4Shame keep making the video games?
4Kids does NOT make the games, Bandai does. They just use the English voice actors/actresses and character names, but with or without 4Kids, Sony Computer Entertainment America and Nintendo of America would still get rid of smoking.
Still, there's no excuse for using the crappy dub opening in Grand Battle (GB Rush in Japan).
