@Blake-Bakes-Cakes I could allude to China, but that doesn't exemplify genuine capitalism. I prefer to avoid delving into political discourse. The prevailing motive seems to be an incessant pursuit of wealth; otherwise, one could find themselves without shelter or internet access. Developing nations grapple with issues such as governmental corruption and impoverishment. Originally, the term "third world countries" denoted those not aligning with Western free nations or communist Russia; however, contemporary usage signifies economically disadvantaged nations. Redirecting our resources towards aiding those in need appears to be a noble endeavor, despite my lack of expertise in politics or world history, acknowledging potential omissions.

I remember Blake mentioning this months ago, but I'm just catching up on some dub eps now, and just passed 1017 or so.
It's soooooo weird that the recap episodes, which FUNi oddly chose to dub and include in these releases, are the only episodes to properly credit the actors to their characters for that episode.
I've been trying to come up with a logical explanation for this, but I'm dumbfounded.
-
@G1Ravage Could be due to the actors' strike perhaps?
-
Dang. This is a much longer wait, huh?
-
@G1Ravage Maybe they're adding together the limited credits from every episode they've used clips from? Is anyone credited in the recap and not the original episode?
-
@LostTimeLord Yes, the recap episodes credit dozens of actors whose names have never appeared in the credits properly for the episodes they were originally in.

End of an era.

I saw this and was very sad. I've been using the FUNimation app almost exclusively on my smart TVs for many years. I usually only used Crunchyroll via Apple AirPlay for the weekly simulcasts of the sub eps. But the AirPlay doesn't always work well.
Fortunately, I just learned today that Crunchyroll FINALLY launched a new app for Samsung TVs two days ago. So I'm super happy.
-
A fun consequence of this is that all of the Funimation digital copies will disappear, including some that will have lasted less than two years. But that's digital ownership for you.
(Though the only One Piece release this applies to is Stampede). -
Not surprised this is happening. If anything I feel like this should have happened sooner.
As for people losing access to digital copies of shows and movies they've purchased on Funimation and owned for years, that fucking blows. I feel like this should carry over as well, and I'm sure they've tried but complicated legal stuff prevents that from happening. Just the nature of this beast, I suppose. It's a clear reminder that you don't really own digital products you pay for. It's just a glorified rental that can be taken away from you at any time.

Are we really going to go through January and February with no releases

I hope not. February just started. Hopefully it’ll be next week. Would suck to fall further behind again. As long as we’re getting a set every two months, we’re still gaining on them.
Next set doesn’t really have too much, yeah? I think the set after is G5?

We're currently up to 1048, so if they do 12 episodes a set then then that means the upcoming one will reach 1060, and then the one after that would be 1072! So yeah, Gear Fifth will be in the set after next. And Wano should conclude with the set after that one, as they can easily squeeze in enough episodes to reach 1085.
That means there are three more voyages that remain for Wano. It's a lot closer than it seems.
-
But by time they finish Wano, there will be likely three sets of Egghead. Sets have to come out every two months for us to gain on them substantially.
-
Can we now name the next thread CrunchyRoll One Piece Dub thread given Funimation is confirmed dead sadly
-
We usually wait until the thread has hit 500 pages.
-
Well yeah, but thats when threads only had 20 posts per page. We've already surpassed the 10,000 posts that would've required.
-
Can we make a thread for the ratings on Toonami? They are good btw.
-
It’s also felt like this thread lasted longer than the previous 2. I wasn’t around for #1! I just wanted to say one last post before this thread closes.
-
lol, the whole subsection of this forum is “Funimation Media Discussion.” Guess they should rename that too.
-
I'm so used to seeing "Funimation DVD Discussion" when I come here that I would be sad if the name changed. lol
-
We should rename this the FUNIMATION FOREVER section!
And about that ratings thread...
-
@Captain-Krupp Would be weird seeing CrunchyRoll discussion but given Funimation is dead. Guess we CrunchyRoll gang now!
-
Just keep calling it Funimation. It's the same batch of people doing the work, just under a different name.

But one thing has not changed... EIGHT PIECE IS REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!
-
@Captain-Krupp 🧩 is real!
-
Just got through the Uta episodes.
The first two episodes were treated like normal episodes, and listed the same generic cast list as every other episode in Wano. The third episode, the flashback recap narrated by Koby, was treated as a recap episode, and properly credited the actors.
EDIT - I just noticed something else. Beginning with episode 1031, the episode titles are once again following the Japanese titles as to whether there's an exclamation mark or not. The last time we had this matchup was during Thriller Bark and Sabaody.
EDIT 2 - While we aren't getting "full credits" of the Japanese or English staff, the few credits we do get during the opening credits are being updated as the series progresses. Just saw Tu Yongce's name added to the staff.
Also of note...I've switched over to using the Crunchyroll app on my Samsung TV, since FUNimation is on its way out. Watching the dub, there are currently no subtitles at all for Japanese text on the screen. I sent them a message asking them to fix this.
-
I feel like some sets have the translation for on-screen text and others don’t, but it’s super annoying.
-
There appears to be a page for s14v14 on the Microsoft store with no episodes currently, so it might be coming on Tuesday
-
Lmao. The price increased AGAIN. Really testing the bounds of how much they can f*** us before we break it off
-
Damn that sucks bro.
-
Thankfully only by like a dollar but also jesus fuck crunchyroll they made it evident how bad this monopoly was for consumers the instant funinow was shut down genuinely comical.
-
Will this next set have the climax of Sanji vs queen / Zoro vs King or will that be the set that follows afterwards
-
At the very beginning of the set afterwards unfortunately.
-
Crunchyroll Support e-mailed me back asking for details, episode info, and screenshots.
I sent back screenshots of Episode 1036, showing how the FUNimation app has subtitles for the songs and on-screen text, but the Crunchyroll app does not.
Some other older FUNi-dubbed shows like Yu Yu Hakusho are behaving similarly with no subtitles. (But Yu Yu is extra weird because Closed Captioning is showing when it shouldn't.)
Other shows that traditionally had well-placed subtitles, such as Kill La Kill and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, are fine on Crunchyroll.
-
That's really bad in I believe episode 830 when all the guests show up for the wedding.
Edit: Just started Wano, hoo boy. The untranslated text is utterly annoying.
-
@Zephray this might just be wishful thinking, but I hope the price increase means this batch has 1061 or even 1062.
1061 would put them at 27 episodes remaining of Wano (depending on how you consider 1085-1088, but the opening and art style put them in Wano moreso than the following arc)
-
Well, both Crunchyroll and Funimation's site do list 1086-1088 as part of this season, so I'd say there is a chance these final three sets will be two 13 episode sets and a 14 episode set (not inckluding recap episodes)
-
Oh yeah, I didn’t realize CR had marked an ending point. This voyage should at least include the end of sanji vs queen then.
-
First six eps from S14V14 are up now.
They are being added now, it seems.
-
And we do indeed get the end of the Sanji vs Queen fight here
-
Does it stop at 1061, or does it get the recap right after, too?
-
The recap is included
-
13 and a half episode batch. Neat.
-
Wow. As of this post that means we're like 32 or so episodes behind Japan. If I were to go back in time and tell myself in the late 2000s that we'd eventually be this close to the Japanese broadcast I never would have believed it.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot, Kozaburo gets a voice. In the recap he’s credited as Jim Johnson
-
Wild to think that we are only 32 episodes behind the original broadcast now. I'm very curious to see what their plan is moving forward into the next arc because they obviously can't keep releasing a dozen episodes every 3 to 6 weeks anymore. I just hope we finish Wano before they officially slow down.
-
I'm guessing it will be like how the digital release of the english dub of Dragon Ball Super came out as the dub as it aired on Adult Swim. Which was like 13 weeks or so after the first episode of the set aired on tv.
-
It would be cool if we got 13 episodes away, but I suspect that won't happen. It'll probably be something around this distance or a simuldub. But that's just a wild guess.
-
Though the release schedule is hardly consistent, it's been about a year since the gap in releases has been greater than 7 weeks. If we presume that the remaining two sets of Season 14 come 7 weeks apart and the anime takes no breaks, then the next set would put us 26 episodes behind and the following set would put us about 19 episodes behind. I could see them settling into a 13-26 episode gap routine, but of course, a 1-13 episode gap would be amazing.
