I was talking about my prediction for Bonney being used to age up the Seraphim in Twitter. It's funny how people react to the idea that she may turn to the enemy in order to achieve her goal. A character starting friendly does not mean there can't be bad blood ahead.
This prediction can be wrong like any other, but there's hints that Bonney may change sides.
To start, after being rescued at sea, Bonney right away tells Luffy they are enemies. While at that point it's just her being defensive, it's also a sign that she reserves the right to turn hostile at any point if that's in her best interest.
Second, Bonney is very emotional about her dad. That the reason she came here in first place. That's an issue that can easily turn her irrational. She kicked Luffy to defend a Pacifista, and she was willing to kill Vegapunk if he couldn't restore Kuma.
There's also the narrative emphasis that the Seraphim are just children and would turn way stronger as adults. And in the same arc Bonney is in. She has the power to turn them into adults. Why can't we surmise that she will do it?
There's also the fact that Bonney is currently under extreme emotional duress. This makes her vulnerable and prone to mistakes in judgement, as well as the chance that what made the Government mindwipe Kuma may have been the later's betrayal when he saved the Straw Hats in Sabaody. Vegapunk said the decision to take away his free will came from Kuma himself. It could be due to him accepting the consequences of his choice.
Vegapunk tried the best he could to convince Bonney to not delve into Kuma's memories or reasons. Probably because his reasoning may hurt Bonney. Bonney believes Kuma would never abandon her. So, knowing his reasons may break her heart in some way.
So, the story has provided us:
- Her motivations
- Her emotional distress
- Her vulnerable state
- A truth that may break her heart
- A possible connection between Kuma's fate and the Straw Hats' survival
- Bonney's value to the enemy
And that's why I think the rogue Vegapunks will approach Bonney as she cries helplessly after witnessing her father's memories, and offer her what she truly wants: her father back. In exchange, she only has to age up the Seraphim.
