This is very funny to me because I have ben feeling this way for the longest time. I feel that there are very few shows that truley reach beyond the ordinary. I feel that in some aspects we are desperately trying to find somehting new and good so badyly, that we elevate certain shows beyond their means. Some examples:
1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - This show, while funny with kyons inner ramblings, is only interesting on a slight basis. I've been told that the manga is far superior (usually the case), but it still leads us around by the nose. What started off as very funny, differnt, and intriguing has leveled off into episodes of the same old same old. They sure showed us lots of random boring shit after a while.
2. Eureka 7 - One of the most overrated pieces of crap that i've ever had the misfortune of sitting through. It was the deffinition of the word mediocre. The characters are unlikable and annoying, and the main villain is as two dimensional as they come. There was no real revelations or anything it just dragged and dragged and dragged, and the craptastic ending couldn't save it. I'm still mad that I watched all 50 of those episodes: hoping for a reprive from the terrible script.
3. Ouran High School Host Club - VERY VERY VERY VERY GAY! I don't care what anyone says, after watching 17 episodes, the level of gayness seeped through my monitor onto my carpet.
There are some other crappy shows out there.
KIBA - Terrible pacing, and pointess plot.
There are shows that used to be interesting but have diverted from their original state to piles of dung.
Bleach - bounto Sucks.
Naruto - Seriously. . . WTF!?!?!
Then there are the rarities, shows that never cease to surprise me.
One Piece, Deathnote. THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO IN RECENT MEMORY THAT ARE ACTUALLY GREAT SHOWS. (Actually technically with deathnote it was the manga, damn badass.)
Where are the shows tht suck me in, I wonder? What I'm saying is that there aren't that many out there. Fairy tale looks promising, it's interesting enough to keep me reading.
