That kind of reinforces the notion that Bruce is an outcast.
DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day

-
This feels Like very early batman, Like maybe still in his early 20s. But I imagine he will become better in the future movies and won't end the trilogy(or how many movies we will end up getting with this team) with the angry kid mode.
-
Wayne Family Adventures (on Webtoon) and Harley Quinn: The Animated Series have the best modern versions of Batman in official projects. They're hilarious, especially since in Wayne Family Adventures we actually get to see Batman getting pwned in slapstick manner.
-
Well aside from that time In BTAS Joker made him open a present that caused him to get a pie in the face.
-
Within the next 3 years, they might have 4 Supermen going at the same time. I'm aware that some DC fans might hate the fact that Henry is the least likely of the 4 to be part of the Superman chaos.

Reign of Supermen

I get the feeling that they'll probably ask Abrams to modify his Superman film to just use Cavill or even merge his project with Jordan's although I honestly wouldn't mind more projects if it meant platforming the voices of people of color.
It's going to be curious to see how Superman & Lois is affected considering it also features Wolé's Steel character and now his daughter. I'm hoping they don't cut the legs off of the story already in progress due to a fear of 'too much'.
Also, just makes me wish that Superman & Lois could get a film just so that the battle scenes could be more intricately done.

Apparently Batman TAS is returning as . . . an audio drama?

Too many trailers. DC and Marvel want me to figure out these films before I see them.
-
The Japanese trailer for The Batman, while not really showing anything new, does show one big thing at the end:
-
The writer for Black Adam will be developing a Wonder Twins film for HBO Max.
After Blue Beetle has been taken off the HBO Max slate and bumped to a theatre release, the HBO Max film list goes
- Batgirl (almost done filming)
- Static (Randy McKinnon)
- Black Canary (Misha Green writing and Jurnee is confirmed to stay on)
- Zatanna (Emerald Fennel writing)
-
89% with 148 reviews
-
Now 87%
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_batmanIt seems to agree that this is the best Batman that really focuses on the detective side of him. Scrolling through the reviews, however, it seems like a love it or hate it movie in general.

Can't wait to see this batman in the next justice league movies with Shazam, wonder woman and aquaman.
-
@uniaka:
Can't wait to see this batman in the next justice league movies with Shazam, wonder woman and aquaman.
They're not going in that direction.
DCEU will be where they have more studio controlled films, so that universe has The Flash, Black Adam, Aquaman, The Suicide Squad etc.
They are making Elseworld like films where filmmakers can be creative and do their own thing. Todd Philips Joker is 1 for example and it lives on its own. Same as Reeves The Batman that lives in its own world.
After that, there's the HBO Max companion series for some of the films.
In the DCEU
The Suicide Squad - Peacemaker, Gunn has confirmed there will be another
The Flash - might get one
Black Adam - Garcia who is a producer confirmed they are looking into certain charactersReeves world - GCPD series confirmed, Penguin (Colin Farrell) series confirmed
-
The official replacement for Affleck in the DCEU is going to be
! Michael Keaton's Earth-89 Batman
-
Warner Brothers has said they will not release The Batman in Russia whilst the Ukrainian invasion is going on.
Take THAT Russia.

Haven't been thinking about the Batgirl movie much (partly cause I hate the outfit), but in doing so I seem to have completely missed that Brendan Frasier is playing Firefly in it:

The costume can’t be any worse than the Burnside outfit.
-
I like the more casual energy of the suit. Superhero suits should be more casual and easy to move in! I'm looking forward to seeing Alysia on screen, though. Should be very interesting. :D
-
On the one hand yeah you don’t want to sacrifice comfortability & mobility. But also you don’t want something that’s so casual looking if comes off looking like anyone could make the outfit.
You also don’t want to wear something that’s so casual legitimately doesn’t offer their wearer if they’re not Superman or Wonder Woman much protection for physical harm. -
Isn't that her first outfit that she made in that run? I don't think its intended to be ideal suit when you first start out as a hero/vigilante.
-
Burnside suit is her best suit.
-
The Batman was really good. Really enjoyed the mixed noir and serial killer thriller feel.
! Wasn't expecting Selina to be Falcone's daughter, that was an interesting twist. Not sure it ultimately amounted to much, though, as I think it'd have made her character stronger if she simply wanted him dead for killing her girlfriend. Oh, wait, that would mean not being biphobic. :\

Matt Reeves take on directing an MCU film
I have such respect for Kevin Feige and also for the Marvel filmmakers, but to be honest with you, I just don’t know how I would make my way through that. There has to be some level of discovery for me, where I have some freedom to find my way. If I have to come into something that’s already set too firmly, then I think I would get lost. And I don’t think they would be happy with me either.
Doesn't sound like a critique at all on the films, but more on the creative side and the difficulty that comes with it.
MCU films prioritize the universe and multiple creatives have a hard time dealing with not having 100% freedom and barely any studio interference.
Directors with similar predicaments
-
Patty Jenkins left Thor Dark World for too much studio interference
-
1st pick for directing Black Widow (Shortland) declined making the film because Marvel told her she doesn't have to worry about action scenes, they will handle it
-
Derrickson left Multiverse of Madness because Disney didn't want it to be too dark
-
Edgar Wright also left in the middle of Ant Man for similar reasons to Derrickson where they had a different vision
Most MCU films already have a good portion of the storyboard done before a director comes on with a few exceptions. Reeves likes to build his films from scratch with little to no interference. He knows it wouldn't work for him.
This pattern of giving directors freedom to an extent for standalone films is how Warner started with Puzo/Newman's Superman, Burton's Batman, A History Of Violence, V For Vendetta, etc. Nothing wrong with a universe with multiple brains collaborating under Fiege, but some want to be the captain of the ship. While some are ok with being under the DCEU like Wan, Muschietti, Sandberg, and Yan.

I really liked the new Batman movie. It's got some flaws, but it's still a really engrossing watch. I love how deliberately paced it is. This movie really takes its time and, aside from one or two scenes, it really doesn't feel its length. And yes, as other people have said, this movie focuses more on the detective aspect of Batman. It has more of noir-thriller feel, as opposed to the Nolan films which were more like action movies. That said, this is a very serious, gloomy, and brooding movie with very few moments of levity. And yeah, if that's not what you want from a Batman movie, then I completely understand this not being your thing.
! I thought Robert Pattison made a great Batman, but not so great a Bruce Wayne. He just comes off as kind of a creepy obsessed weirdo, whereas Bruce is supposed to be more grounded, but I guess that was the point that Bruce/Batman was going too far with his vigilante justice.
! Paul Dano gave a fantastic performance when the script allowed him to. When he was ranting and raving he really came off as an unhinged school shooter type, which was genuinely scary. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't give him too many moments to shine like that, and of course his costume is pretty lame as it's just a mask, which leaves me pining for another take at a "proper" Riddler.
! Catwoman was fine, I suppose, but I think her subplot wasn't really necessary.
! Andy Serkis would not have been among my personal choices to play Alfred, but he gives a damn good performance here as a more hard-assed Alfred.
! Everyone else was fine. Not much to write home about, but they did good. -
Guys, the new Batman movie fucking rips.
That's it, that's my take on it. Had a blast all the way through and can't to wait to see it again when it comes to streaming.
-
It really is a blast! from the toy movie era that we are living, a fine exemple of a good production.
emo batman, catwoman who apparently has the same wig dresser as doja cat, penguin being bilingual and riddler being woke. huff, good shit.
-
That stuff was banger ! And so should have been the Bat/Cat relationship…
-
Seen this on r/
-
And then there's the poor–now dead--Earth-9 Alfred who is dead. :(
I really hope they let David Mazouz and Sean Pertwee come back. Mazouz is 21, easily old enough to just play Batman himself now. WB's weird restrictions on how Batman is used is really stifling would could be a cool film or series.

Blue Beetle Cast Adds George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo and Damián Alcázar. Lopez is playing the role of Uncle Rudy, Barraza is playing Nana, Carrillo is playing Rocio and Alcázar is playing Alberto. The four round out the rest of the Reyes family which includes Bellisa Escobedo who plays Milagro. -
Sweet, I love George Lopez.

I think it’s safe to say Miller has “problems”.
-
Whew! That was an intense Batman. Although I laughed more than I ever would have thought (with one singular joke in particular). Was it perfect? Of course not. But here are some highlights:
1. Paul Dano is the best Batman villain since Heath Ledger.
2. Andy Serkis is a great, caring Alfred.
3. Didn't realize John Turturro was Falcone but he did a great job too.
4. Hell, all the villains were great, including the unrecognizable Colin Ferrell. (what happened to my beautiful Irish man?!)
5. Robert Pattinson did a good, intimidating Batman, although his Emo Boy Bruce got old real quick. But this was a Batman where you could feel his punches.
6. That SOUNDTRACK. Sorry, Hans Zimmer, but Michael Giacchino beat your Batman theme.
7. The settings are amazing. Nolan's sets were a little dull, but these drip with gothic style.
8. Do I even need to mention the action or that insane car chase? There are a few things that bugged me:
1. Not enough Alfred.
2. Like I said, Emo Boy Bruce. I know this is young Batman but he should be a little more suave. The hair especially, sheesh.
3. A personal problem, but there was so much flashing in several scenes I had to cover my eyes (seizure condition).
4. Catwoman didn't feel as dangerous as she could be.! Paul Dano gave a fantastic performance when the script allowed him to. When he was ranting and raving he really came off as an unhinged school shooter, which was genuinely scary. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't give him too many moments to shine like that, and of course his costume is pretty lame as it's just a mask, which leaves me pining for another take at a "proper" Riddler.
! I think the mask is pretty damn creepy, precisely because it's something anyone could make. Could've used more green on him, but I guess that would be too "campy". When Dano was in the mask he was absolutely amazing, but when he's out of it in the jail he's less cool and a little more . . . whiny? I don't know if it's his face or what, but unmasked Riddler definitely didn't feel as scary and more like a brat. Which I guess he was in the end?
! And I know it's not confirmed but we all know that's Joker in the other cell at the end. To which I say: WHO THE HELL WAS PLAYING HIM?! They didn't even list him in the credits (either as Joker or a prisoner). Is that a throwaway actor or somebody bigger being kept under very heavy wraps? -

Wikipedia is your friend.
! Barry Keoghan. Yeah, doesn't have a lot of credits to his name, but he was that one kid from The Eternals.

awwww he's hugging with a basket case murderer.
I really really liked how Pattinson portrayed Batman. He was a violent weirdo. And kinda clumsy? Like, you could tell he was in his early years as Batman. There's also lots of subtle stuff, like that he couldn't make eye contact, good stuff.

I love the scene where he just dashes out of the police station. Or how he just casually walks around. None of this disappearing shit (except for the one time). It's so quaint. Like, what a fuckin' nerd! Gah, I just wanna shove him into a locker and the make out with him.
-
One podcast I listen to said it best when it described that Batman truly feels like a monster in this film.
In that first scene he's in it's spooky as shit when he appears from the shadows, the first thing you hear are his footsteps and then he just starts to wreck those criminals in a really brutal way. Good stuff.
-
I'm not the only one to think that those goons he takes out in the first scene are definitely an homage to the Jokerz from Batman Beyond, right?
-

Oh, I imagined that they were!
Fun fact: the new recruit that ran away was played by Jay Lycurgo, the actor for Tim Drake/Robin III on the Earth-9 TV series Titans!
-
I finally watched The Batman, and it isn't good. Some parts….and I really do mean like a few, are good.
But on the whole it just seems to lack anything that gets you invested into the plot. e.g. The main protagonists motive.
What mountain do we have to move to get Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan back!?
-
I see someone "hacked" the HBO Max version :ninja:
Well, I was invested into the "lie and truth" plot personally. Nolan did a good job, but Matt Reeves is great too imo. What didn't you like exactly ? Is that something you can tell ?
For me with the Joker film for instance, I couldn't say what but overall I hadn't liked it at all -

It's like the issues I have are very small, but cumulatively they add up and overshadow all the good elements. I think it would actually be easier to address what is good about the film, opposed to what's wrong. e.g. Fight scenes and more down to earth tech
minus the contactsmake the film seem more realistic.! Though one thing is for sure: You can't help but compare films, and when you look at the grand scheme of the Riddler (that wants to get Gothams feet wet), against Bane (who has armed a nuclear bomb)….well...its just anticlimactic.
-
! the grand scheme of the Riddler (that wants to get Gothams feet wet), against Bane (who has armed a nuclear bomb)….well...its just anticlimactic.
! hey no, the Riddler killed a lot of people by blowing up the digs. At least that's my take on what happened. Even though they don't die on camera, it's pretty obvious to me that Robert Pattinson couldn't save them all, far from it. On the other side, Bane's bomb hadn't even exploded in Gotham…
! I even found that interesting that Pattinson's character fails to save them all. Not a big fan of him failing to detective throughout the film (meh world's worst translator, ok it was funny but it's supposed to be big brain Bat-boy there), but this here was very satisfying for me. I also enjoyed the lack of "build-up" about the flooding, like, Batman is really taken by surprise like a kiddo detective (2years since he started right ? not the best excuse but it kinda works).
! What I also greatly liked is that there is room for character development in the next films that are gonna come. He can become a better detective, and eventually be less depressive. He already kinda stopped being vengeance to become "hope" or whatever. Another great parts of the film for me. -

He already kinda stopped being vengeance to become "hope" or whatever. Another great parts of the film for me.! I can see what you're saying about being able to build on him, but how? I mean you could make him less depressing, improve his detective skills and whatnot, but Patterson is one of the smallest issues in this film. I mean everyone with power tend to all drink in the same room, and none of them come off as being untouchable. And really the main flaw of his detective skills in this film, was not having the foresight to lift up the riddlers carpet.
! I mean beyond having the riddler dedicate his entire life for this plan, is anyone even a threat to Batman or Gotham, because it doesn't feel that way. Which I guess is why I always liked the villains. They might have been beatable, but it usually just meant they would go through the revolving door of Arkham before returning to their role. This just didn't have that element outside of taking down Falcone who's a more traditional mobster than a maniacal villain to the city.
