Still don’t understand how you’re getting “new take” from this, but yes I will agree generally he does not sound as good. Although it’s similar enough to me that it does not really upset me to any degree, especially if this is just a one time thing. Sorry I was so insistent I look like an idiot now lol, but before I think I was comparing like two lines that were drastically different so it made it harder to tell. I like to think I usually have a pretty good ear.

Here’s the old voice, to jog your memory. I’m kind of tired of arguing it.
-
I’ve been comparing Zephray. I only brought it up again because yeah, I think he’s probably different, but he still sounds very similar and I don’t know what you’re talking about with the tone thing. That’s all there is to it.
-
Is he in another episode besides the Kaido one this set? If so, I haven’t listened to that performance.
I like that Kaido has a little flem to his voice! That makes him sound a little unique and different, which is a must! It also reminds us that he’s drunk all the time.
What ever happened with his suicidal tendencies? They went away before he became a major character? Also, I guess that legend of the beast that lives in the sky island that Hawkins mentions doesn’t actually relate to Kaido? Or does it?
-
He’s not exactly suicidal as much as he wants a like meaningful death, which I assume is why he does stuff like jump from a sky island over… just jumping into the ocean. This hasn’t been elaborated on that much yet, but it’s beyond being suicidal, at least.
Oh also he has a line in 736, the one in the clip I posted. This was actually more telling for me cuz the line is more similar to his usual emotional state, so easier to like pick apart the more subtle aspects of it… if that makes sense.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Someone responded to the Apoo clip saying they think its Kellen Goff, and I am actually shocked now that they pointed it out because yeah now Im 99% sure that’s him.
-
Almost sounds like he's still recording! "My first batch of episodes." Closest to confirmation that they're recording Zou yet!
That said, even if they're recording Zou, they could still take a break since they like to get ahead.
-
Looking at some of the stuff he said, unless he was like priorly a one piece fan, they like absolutely have to be recording zou. Cuz like he’s talking abt this being his biggest role yet and such, and I don’t know howd to get that from 1 line lol. Like obviously you’re told stuff about your character before you record them, but it is at leastheavily implied here.
Have to say I’ve really been loving the racial diversity in this cast as of late. Like obviously it should be a big deal but we’ve had some pretty big roles played by black people recently and I find that pretty neat, not the mention they actually got a lot of hispanic people for dressrosa. It’s nice.
To address the ELEPHANT (cricket noises) in the room, his name is absolutely glorious. Like genuinely. People aren’t usually named Bill, he stuck with that name for the alliteration, and I respect that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh wait, he thanks both Mike and Anthony for their direction. Mike directed all of voyage 9, so there you go.

“who the hells the dragon behind us?” http://https://twitter.com/onepieceanime/status/1446597173928513541?s=21
-
I mean, when he got the role, they told him he’s the primary antagonist for the entire arc. So I wouldn’t look into his knowledge there too much.
-
I mean yeah, that’s not hard evidence or anything, just sorta suggests it, but regardless I think the director thing is more telling anyways lol. He even specifically says thanks for the “great direction”, which implies he has worked with both specially over them simply both being responsible for his casting.
-
Yeah, that’s pretty good confirmation for me. Best we have yet, anyways. But as I said, it doesn’t mean we aren’t getting a break between seasons.
We’ll see, though! I’ll certainly make this set last as long as I can.
-
I mean yeah, no exactly hard proof either way, just speculation. Was just saying they’ve definitely at least recorded a bit of it. I think this is the first time I’ve actually gotten like actual information from fixating on how a tweet is worded lol. Makes me feel like a genius.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Kind odd that Anthony said there would be cast announcements soon and then… Bill Butts just kinda announced it. Like, I would assume he meant Funimation or Toei directly. Cuz otherwise… why didn’t he himself? Almost wonder if they actually get official go-a heads to post tweets, and if they don’t have a twitter tough luck you won’t ever be credited.
-
I don’t think there was any coordination. The Jack actor rightfully jumped the gun on the announcement. It’s fucked that the episodes are out and watched before the voices are announced.
Actor abuse like this is literally the reason unions exist.
-
I mean there has to some reason Anthony didn’t, but yeah. Completely agree with you on that front. Dubbing work already notoriously underpays, the least you can do is fucking credit your actors. Not to mention the credits to these episodes don’t even credit most of the people that actually produced the original episode either. Usually when something shitty like this happens, there is at least something clear they can gain from it, but it literally just looks like toei went “Hey can you stop crediting all these people? Thanks.” Also yeah have no doubt it’s Toei because Funi at least have the common decency to credit on all their other anime, and only stopped for one piece once toei became more involved.
-
I listen to the Dub Kaido Clip and i think Kaido is voice by Jason Marnocha
Here's some my Fancast choices for Future One Piece English Dub Voice Actors
Kozuki Oden- Kaji Tang
Katakuri- Steve Blum(I know that choice is impossible) or Joshua Tomar
Catviper- Jamieson K Price
Pedro- Crispen Freeman
Zeus,Prometheus,and Napoleon- SungWon Cho -
You may be right about that, its just really hard to tell cuz Kaido is at like such an extreme end of the spectrum range wise.
-
No ody asked any dub actors at NYCC if strawhat Chase was dubbed?
-
Even if someone did, they probably wouldn’t be able to answer. Announcements are just weird like that. Like when Stampede was announced for the US Bonney’s VA said something, and she deleted it cuz they technically didn’t announce it was dubbed yet, even though that was a pretty safe thing to assume and later rather nonchalantly acknowledged that it was.
-
Oh, hey, dub-only watchers! You’re able to watch Film Gold and Stampede now! The only things spoiled in those film were in the DR arc, right? Once you’ve seen gear four and Doffy’s defeat, nothing else is spoiled in the movies, so far as I remember. Anyone else remember a spoiler I’m forgetting?
-

Gold is fine, but there’s still some techniques that show up on Whole Cake Island that might count as spoilers. Also Morgans is there. So depends on how much you consider those real spoilers.
-
You mean Stampede regards the techniques, right? Is Snakeman in Stampede? I don’t think so. What else besides Morgans is spoiled? I think that’s the only thing.
-

Uh actually snakeman is in stampede lol. Also Luffy’s current county.
-
Yeah, [THE THING LUFFY DOES AT THE CLIMAX OF WCI] is in Stampede. Granted, if one hasn't seen [THE THING LUFFY DOES AT THE CLIMAX OF WCI] then its presence in Stampede might not even register as much of a spoiler. It only shows up briefly and it's relatively early in the fight. Looks phenomenal though. I like how [THE THING LUFFY DOES AT THE CLIMAX OF WCI] has only ever appeared in scenes handled by some of Toei's best animators and so it has only ever looked awesome in the anime.
-
I didn’t think the bounty got mentioned, but one of Bege’s big techniques is also there.
-
Hawkins also uses his technique from the start of Wano in Stampede, and also Zeus is in the movie for a second

I was really curious about this, someone made a thread of of each appearance of the five elders in the dub to compare their voices, it's really neat!
. TLDR: Generally just very little consistency, due to them having very minor speaking roles spread very far apart despite their status. They don't even have names yet, so it's hard to cross reference who played who.
What I find most interesting is that Randy Pearlman very clearly voiced the big mustached one with the birth mark, only to later play the long bearded one. So I think they have a general group of people they know played them, but it's really hard to keep track of who played who and what the voices sound like specifically, so they just kinda wing it. It works, logistically nobody is going to notice. Even I haven't been like "wait they sound different" ever, which ironically was why I was interested in it lol.
-
The Japanese and golden logos managed to sneak onto the placeholder artwork for UK Collection 24. That's not significant or anything, I just thought it was slightly funny.
!
-
Reminder that the first Dressrosa set came out on December 1st, 2020. Around eleven months to get through the dub of it. Whew.
-
I know this isnt the place for it but it seems like the Latin American and Brazilian dubs are planned to go on up until MARINEFORD. It seems Akainu has been cast in the Brazilian dub.
And yes, I know he appears before Marineford, in Robin's Flashback.
EDIT: To make this post somehow relevant to the Funimation dub, this means Netflix will buy up to until Marineford soon.
-
I mean yeah that’s pretty relevant info, one piece on netflix is kinda a big deal, but why is this thought exactly? Just seems unlikely to me. In order for Akainu to be cast they’d either have to be 200 episodes ahead dubbing, wise, or recording it super out of order.

Because the actor confirmed it. Or does he appear earlier?
-
His first appearance is in enies lobby. which is still well over 200 episodes later than the end of alabasta. But like, how would you not get in major trouble for just leaking that??
-
Okay so saw a youtube comment saying kaido is a dude named David Sobolov, and listening to these samples I’m almost certain that’s correct. http://https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/David-Sobolov/ . Actually hasn’t done like any anime outside of like 2 minor roles, he primarily works in american animation and video games, so pretty impressive guy to snab. Lives in canada, too. So like probably simply would not have happened pre-covid.
-
You’re talking Kaido?
-
Yeah, my bad. Edited my post.

David Sobolov!?? Wow, that would be wild! He is from Canada, but I'm pretty sure he lives in California these days. He voiced Depth Charge in Beast Wars back in 1998.
-
Ah I see, it’s just everywhere I found said canada lol. Normally I’d doubt it but his voices sound so similar i’m inclined to believe jt.
-
Solicits on Monday. Any guesses?
-
I mean, pretty consistently a voyage every 2 months and a collection right after the last voyage, so I’d be surprised if we didn’t get our voyage 6 blu ray listed.

No special features, unfortunately.

Had a dream last night that the first batch of Zou episodes would be released on 11/9, which just so happens to be a Tuesday. Soon? Yes. But if my subconscious was able to be right about the day of the week, it must be true.
-
Glad I am not the only one who has dreamed abt it before lol.
-
I think I dreamed about it coming back during the hiatus. Haha.
Early November does seem too soon. Hope you’re right, though! I’m moving through this set very slowly to lessen the likely season break. I really think they want to get ahead before they keep pounding them out on a 1-1.5 monthly schedule. I know funimation tends to like to be far ahead of their releases.
-
Shit…while reading about Brent Mukai, I saw the trending news that Chris Ayres has passed away. :-(
-
Oh uh, this was 2 years ago now I guess. Bizarre.
