Did I just saw Donald Trump?
-
You just saw Donald Trump die.
Also, Adam and Eve.
-
I was wondering of those 'so many things left to be done' thinking of DT,i hope authors was joking.
Anyway,a good premises,i get the vibe of Cage of Eden….. -
All rigth:
Did the gasoline explode? That shouldn't happen in these conditions, -1 science points
If the birds aren't a red herring and were actually turned to stone like mankind, then it was a test run on whatever caused the incident.
From the two only examples that we have, only those persons who's minds could hold for thousands of years are able to wake up, this means that this will be a world of weirdos and mad people. The girl had also a crush on buff boy, and had a similar personality as seen by the vet incident so she migth wake up soonish
Any evolution in just 2k years is impossible, only reversing domestication and the retaking of cities, and the painful carnage of farm animals by emboldened predators could be predicted. I hope someone watched "discovery channel after the end"
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Finally, the valley of human rocks could have been natural, or artificial made by someone who woke up during the first thousand years. Or just where stones roll to.
I wonder if the Pilar humans are breakable only when their minds die. As in similar conditions than buff boy people crumbled. I'm wondering if someone at the bottom of the sea or in one of the plane crashes could still be intact.
-
Damo Tamaki is going to sue for cultural appropriation
-
So far I'm interested in seeing where this is going.
-
I like this, I like this a lot
kinda reminds me of Dragon Quest 5
I don't get the pun in muscle dude name, his name is Ooki Taiju right?
so his name translate to Big tree Big tree? and how to write that in kanji?
-
I don't think 3700 years is enough to turn a city into something resembling a virgin jungle. There should have been a lot more worn out structures, and the plan should be more about scavenging than creating civilization out of wood and stones. Unless man made stuff was destroyed by something other than natural processes.
-
Chernovil is already half way there. You underestimate the power of nature.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
http://www.boredpanda.com/nature-reclaiming-civilization/ can't find the proper post but there. Less than 100 can be reclaimed, and with just the view that we saw we can't say how much the structures were really destroyed.
-
Eh, not really? All big structures in there are still intact. Buildings, streets, that ferris weel photographers love to shoot. Not that Chernobyl is the best example, since it's so recent and a lot of life just can't live there at all. I was thinking more along the lines of the pictures of Angkor in the link, where nature overtook but there's clearly structures underneath. But then again, there was a mysterious light that turned only people to stone, so I'm siding with that for now. Otherwise I feel like scavenging the location of an old wardware store for plastic and metal tools makes more sense than going back to wood and stone.
-
Hm… This has potential. I like how the girl actually had a bit of a cool personality, how endearing Taiju's spunkiness is, and how inevitably lovable of a smartass Senkuu will be. And that 10 Billion% assurance quirk is beautiful scriptwriting. This series can be a pretty good mix of humor and heart if done right.
-
So…I'm doing this JUMPSTART. Seems fun so far!
...My first thought was Reagan, not Trump. Kind of a hybrid?
I don't get the pun in muscle dude name, his name is Ooki Taiju right?

Yup, that's all it is. 大木大樹. Just supposed to be a "mighty"-sounding name.
-
@CCC:

thanks a lot for the explanation!
and good luck with the series, I hope it does well in the magazine

The theory matches up. Well smarty smarty-pants will tell us next chapter either way.
Good luck CCC, this one seems the closest bridge of something like the promised Neverland (a great injustice, prodigy protagonists but under human limitation, a societal collapse) with an opportunity to go old school battle manga.

Skimmed through mangastream comments, saw bunch of ppl saying art is similiar to that of sun ken rock
Couldn't have facepalmed harder. :ninja:
-
Not really grasped by it but I'm curious about how this would develop.
I prefer Boichi's other running series, Origin.
-
I prefer Boichi's other running series, Origin.
Well, he isn't writing the story for this one.
-
Pretty good start from this series, but it will depend on the rest of the cast that will emerge alive.

All rigth:

More like Adam and Steve

There's seem to be a trend lately in WSJ of manga starting with the MC confessing his love in the first chapter (3 this round and 1 in the previous one).
Anyway, I can't say I was really impressed by the first chapter besides the art which was expected. The 2 MC didn't do anything for me to even start liking them.
But well, with this kind of setting, my opinion can change pretty quickly with the next chapters.
So far my feeling for this round is : Poro > U19 > Dr Stone = Hungry Marie > We Never Learn.
But I expect the order to be the opposite in Japan. -
Let's discuss ratings of the 6 newbies in the shueisha thread. But for me poro is bottom last. Can't figure out the rest rigth now.
-
Interesting. I just hope that I'll be able keep blind eye on science stuff as I continue to read series.

the thing is, this series have an actual scientist as supervisor just like food war have an actual chef supervisor
-
Read Hungry Marie, U19 and this one (might as well read the other 3 because discussing is fun)
I love the art in this one, especially the nature. I haven't read a lot of survival stories, but I feel it should be essential that the surroundings are interesting. The series has a good, unique setting with visuals to back it up. The characters… they're certainly interesting with well-defined personalities, but depending on the direction they will either turn very annoying or very interesting. The girl is the most interesting love interest so far.
Something this manga has going for me, is that it got me interested on it's own. U19 interests me because of Kids Next Door and Hungry Marie because of Beelzebub. If you removed those influences I doubt I'd be following them.
-
Intriguing start and premise. Gonna keep an eye on this.
-
I am not convinced. I don't know what the story is (aside from basic survival), and that troubles me a lot. The characters are also pretty bland. Hopefully it'll improve…
-
Solitary confinement is one of the worst punishments you can receive - within just weeks it can cause semipermanent damage to one's psyche. We're social creatures for the most part, and our brains are wired to need social stimulation. Obviously hermits exist, but these are very few and far between; the exception, not the rule.
It's hard to imagine how being in essentially forced solitary in the dark for thousands of years wouldn't have resulted in madness but rather leave these kids apparently unscathed. Maybe they'll address it at some point.

Or maybe it is just a manga and nobody cares if it is that much realistic
-
The counting for thousands of years ans being a random super genius is such a Hiruma thing lol. But the other guy….I dunno. They really should both be a tad more insane.
I'm guesiing that the guy he saw sitting is going to wake up at some point. Or probably next some girl but not the one he likes.
-
I wonder if there are evolved animals/creatures in this world. The thought about what types of antagonists there could be (if there even will be antagonists, although the drama tone of this series makes me think there will) besides other awakened humans.
-
The evolution of animals depends on how much fantasy the author wants. If he wants to keep it realist, at most there would be something like very big wolves, bears or some other predator that became the top of the food chain. A less realistic scenario could be a planet of the apes situation, monkeys overtook civilization and kept it afloat. An then there's full fantasy, dinosaurs, monsters, aliens or whatever.

When I opened my Jump this week, I was not expecting to see "President Donald Trump turned into stone and die".
chuckle

This manga deserves to stay at least a year just because of that.
-
Es21's author's story, huh? Boichi drawing a sci-fi… yep, gonna read it.
My last time with a weekly upstart in jump was Nurarihyon no Mago, a shit packed in olive leaf, got to drop it.Average chapter, but with interesting traits, i don't like the birds below mammals chances of surviving, but is nothing. That Trump sure has plenty of thoughts to take action xd.
-
Anyone else think counting every second for thousands of years is dumb? Lol my first thought was you didn't lose count, really?
-
Considering it was mostly a madness mantra, and had literally no distractions except the void calling to kill him, no.
-
Anyone else think counting every second for thousands of years is dumb? Lol my first thought was you didn't lose count, really?
It's a thing Hiruma did in Eyeshield for like a year and some months while holding conversations playing football and…well living. I think the author just likes absurd minds lol.
But being unable to do nothing and just keeping count should drive him insane lol.
-
At the point human bodies petrify and somehow stay active for 3000 years with no degradation, I'm not fully convinced they're technically "human" anymore.
The state in which they were in is already absurd, so it kinda gives a free-pass on whatever happens during it.

Can you remove petrification without a Gold Needle? find out next time on Dr Stone

I was wondering when "the girl" would be revived. Expect "kiyaa!!! I'm naked" hijinks next week.
-
-
Mhh a lot of science which i usually like, but somehow i felt a bit underwhelming for a second chapter.
Also the time passing that quick feels a bit awkward, but at least we now are settled to get more characters involved.
So will this one muscular dude come to life before the pretty girl because of an accident first reviving him… -
Holy shit. How could I have not noticed the Mario reference?
-
It was okay I guess.
The story is in desperate need of a goal and/or a conflict.
-
A very accurate description of the chapter.
Indeed, the good ol' Kage only fails 5% of his tries. Which means he's pretty awesome… and talking about awesomeness, this chapter had it. It taught us how to do illegal stuff, maybe the second person to save would be Trump, that would be hilarious.
-

I thought restoring civilization was the goal
-
I thought resorting civilization was the goal
I'm guessing that's the end goal though. It's sort of like saying the goal of One Piece is to find the treasure. There needs to be few smaller goals along the way. Or conflicts, that may be a better word for it.
