Yeah, the downside of that video is that there's a decent chance noticing that calling card will take you completely out of the film.

So a talented fan made a fanart poster of live-action Hercules imagining Hercules played by Chris Pratt, Zeus by Josh Brolin, Hades by Willem Dafoe, and Megara by Ana de Armas:

For now Disney is going to stick to its July release for Mulan:

Greg Weisman would totally be up for a live-action Gargoyles movie on Disney+:

-
Been going on a Gargoyles binge on Disney + so that article came with really good timing. Helped me discover also that there's an extensive page with lore details as well as insight into spin-offs and plans they had.
One thing I wish they had talked about was the whole thing where Kingdom Hearts was at some point considering having a Gargoyles world. Still makes me sad deep down that that never happened.
Original interview is here in Polygon: https://www.polygon.com/disney-plus/2020/5/14/21249881/gargoyles-animated-series-disney-plus-greg-weisman-interview-oj-simpson-goliath-chronicles
-
Of course Greg Weisman would rather just pick up the series and keep going from where it left off (fuck the Goliath Chronicles), but if Disney wanted a reboot I would not be against Gargoyles 2198 or Time Dancer at all. Neither would he.

Do you want to let Weisman do another awkward timeskip? that is how we hemorrage Robins and aqua-heroes.
Young Justice was kind of hilarious, from season 1 to season 2, less than a year away, like 6 years in story. season 2 to season 3, around 6 years IRL, two in story.
-
Plus the original series already did time travel as is (one of which was a fake out but still).
Wouldn’t mind a spin-off with Griff since they laid the groundwork for that and didn’t follow up which is understandable. -

Did he say he was going to to a time skip? He could literally just take up from where it stopped if he wanted to.
Gargoyles 2198 was always meant to be it's own thing, really, with Brooklyn and Demona being the only characters from the original. Which is why I would like to see it, also because Weisman is one of the few creators who has handled time travel well. What I REALLLLLY want is more Time Dancer, though. I wanna see more Katana!

So Disney World is now planning to open in July:
https://movieweb.com/disney-world-reopening-date/?fbclid=IwAR0c0Gmf3s8fNL5howN-qJcyysBPTpu9D_F_HNKFlfWud6FbMHPflWsbY0QThis is very risky, but like Shanghai Disney and Universal, they're putting a lot of restrictions in place, and this is a big maker of money for them. But sheesh, it's not gonna be your grandma's Disney.
-
Do you want to let Weisman do another awkward timeskip?
Weisman has said in Gargoyles case, assuming it didn't just go straight to the 2198 spinoff, he would pick it up where it left off, and have major events happen and slowly move the timescale forward without being too specific on dates. No big timejump, just little ones. Too many eventful things in the character's lives to just jump past, and given how he handled the comics… The cast is so small and unique, you can't just swap them out like you can superhero kids.
Granted, that was the plan like 15 years ago. There's more to catch up on. ANd he's played with timejumps in YJ since then. But really the show isn't dated much outside of like, Elisa not having a cellphone, and not explicitly having Lexington on the internet a bunch. ANd that's a really easy new addition to make to bring the series up to their 1997 and pretend its modern day as long as you didn't throw dates onto the subtitles too often..
Their New York has twin towers still, not sure how that would be dealt with. I assume they'd just never have it in the background and ignore it.
A timeskip would allow an easier ignoring of Goliath Chronicles, however.

Does Disney own Buffy The Vampire Slayer now? Cause I would love to see what Joss Whedon could come up with if he made a Buffy sequel series that was animated
That would be awesome….. although I’m pretty sure he’s to busy with that new Victorian London steampunk horror series he’s writing the nevers

We've already seen what he would do with a sequel season with basically unlimited special effects budget in the comics.
It's overall not great.

I liked it a lot until the last two volumes of season 8, you know when Angel and Buffy has super sonic sex so hard they ripped open the fabric of the universe and the astral plane and almost destroyed the world
But I did like all the stuff with Dracula and Xander, especially Dracula’s speech about how the Tokyo vampires should be more afraid of the old man version of him (Vlad the impaler) then the vampire, I forget the exact wording but it was absolutely fantastic
But again I wasn’t sure how much of that was actually Joss and how much was them just putting his name on it to make it sell
-
I thought both Buffy: Season 8 and Angel: Season 6 started out pretty strong and then turned really bad in the last couple of volumes. Angel just whimpered out into a series of stupid, meaningless stories (which I think aren't considered canon now) while B: S8 just turned absolutely insane and went in a direction I don't think anybody wanted it to go. But I did like all the early stuff with the Slayer army in a Scottish castle and thought Xander in particular had his strongest season since season 5.

I'm sorry, this is too funny:
Especially for anyone who's from the Midwest or has been to the Midwest.
-
Lulz, highly not accurate for my Midwestern family, as we always loved Disneyland/World as our favorite place to go on vacation (I actually desperately want to go back after having not been there in many years, haha), but I'm sure there are others from the Midwest like this, yeah. Resists the urge to take potshots at certain other Midwest states

Which can also describe any of the seasons past season three.
The musical episode was pretty good. But yeah, outside of Willow's gay turn and descent into darkness arc, they had no idea what they were doing after Buffy left high school.

Also the gentlemen episode, those guys were creepy as hell
-
It had character moments but no momentum.
It needed the high school drama
-
I disagree. While the show got a lot weaker in later seasons, to just reduce the greatness of the show to its first three season because of the high school setting is a bit unfair. Especially because Season 1, while kinda sweet, is one of the weaker seasons - which would mean that Buffy overall only had two great seasons in Season 2 and 3.
It's true that the show didn't seem to know what to do with the new college setting come Season 4 - they tried some new stuff that didn't really work out so well (which I guess kinda mirrors Buffy's own experiences with college). The Initiative plot was ambitious, but became boring pretty quickly. And while I don't hate Riley like many fans do, he certainly was a subpar replacement for Angel. That said, while the main plot arc was pretty weak, I love a lot of the standalone episodes of the season. Someone already mentioned Hush, but I also want to give a shoutout to Fear, Itself, Something Blue, Restless and the Faith two-parter. This season was very experimental, and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I give them credit for trying new stuff though. And to me, Season 4 is also the funniest season of the show. Even some of the more flawed episodes are highly rewatchable because they're just that entertaining and hilarious.
Season 5 though is a complete return to form. For me, this season works on every level. It introduces or features a lot of elements that would suck in later seasons, but that work so well here: Xander and Anya's relationship, Giles becoming the owner of the Magic Box, Spike's character arc, Willow's and Tara's relationship, even Dawn. Dawn is probably the most hated character of the series, but I think she is kinda fun this season. Yeah she's already annoying, but more in a "snotty little brat" kind of way and less in a "prepubescent hormonal teenager" way, which was a lot easier to tolerate and watch for me. Especially since she is supposed to feel like an intruder that doesn't belong to the show at first.
I really like the focus on family as the theme of the season, and The Body is an amazing episode that is incredibly hard and painful to watch. Further awesome episodes include Fool for Love, Checkpoint and of course, The Gift, which is to me the highpoint of the series and probably should have been the ending of the show…if it weren't for the musical episode and some other great ones in the last two seasons that is.
But yeah, season 6 and 7 certainly feel like the show running out of steam. You've got occasional moments of brilliance, like the musical or _Conversations with Dead People, b_ut aside from that…Funnily enough, I think both seasons start out strong and the first 7 or 8 episodes are actually pretty good, but it's the second third of the season when both Season 6 and Season 7 start going downhill - oddly enough for exactly opposite reasons. Season 6 doesn't have a lot of plot and instead focuses on overly melodramatic, uber-dark character 'development', if you want to call it that (I hate that 'Willow becomes a magic drug addict' plotline so much) and it's just a slog to watch at times. Season 7 otoh is all plot, all the time, with way too many secondary and tertiary characters getting focus instead of the ones we care about, and the plot isn't all that great. They usually weren't on this show, but what it had always going for it were the characters - even when they were flawed or acted like selfish dicks, I always loved every one of them. And at least at times, Season 6 and 7 took this away and made me really dislike most of the main characters.
This turned into a much longer rant than I intended, sorry :ninja:
-
The problem for me is the aimlessness. They end up in a point where they have to make up reasons for these characters to interact after they lost their binding glue. And then we end up with stuff like neutered Spike banging invisible Buffy, annoying human keys and people hanging out at unemployed Giles house. I realize it is hard to continue a coming of age story after the characters have already come of age, but it all just meanders on too much for my taste
-
But isn't the fact that they are good friends and constantly working together to save the world enough reason for them to interact? I mean, I still hang out with my best friends from high school, especially those that live in the same town. Plus, a big theme of Season 4 was about the characters drifting apart for a while, with Buffy, Willow and Xander each hanging out with other people, experimenting with their lives and who they are (especially Willow), and Giles feeling completely out of the loop. Spike is the character where I can see how the reasons why he's hanging out with the Scoobies become kinda forced, which is probably part of the reason they made him fall in love with Buffy. I won't complain about that too much though, because I greatly enjoyed Spike as a neutered but mischievous, unwilling helper to the Scoobies during Season 4, before he became too cuddly later on.
But I admit that I seem to be pretty much alone in enjoying Season 4.
-
I mean sure they still see each other but adding additional obstacles to their interactions and still trying to keep the show essentially the same only leaves you with a worse version of what you previously had. To me Buffy was a show that thrived within its formula, the monster of the week/algebra test worry set up just worked so well at letting the cast play off each other. The college years, if it had to happen, should've been spun off into something new like fraiser was for cheers, but i get they were afraid to cut and run
-
I was wondering for a while what it was in those last few posts of Buffy debate that warranted a threadlock o.0
-
I was a little shocked too:ninja:I mean, I know it was off-topic, but it was just a few posts…
-
Clearly someone wanted to steal my Buffy Fraiser idea and cleverly locked the thread to buy some time
-
Probably Robby…:ninja:

I only saw a bit of Buffy when I was young, and that one episode where an evil witch mom of one of her friends tried to invade her daughter's body, but it backfired, and it got locked in a trophy, and she's like alive in it, kinda scared the crap out of me. :/
-
Never got into Buffy. Yes, I'm terrible. But maybe that's because I don't like 99% of vampire stuff out there.
-
Probably Robby…:ninja:
If i see a script about a middle aged Xander struggling to balance working full time while bringing up three little slayers of his own (with a little help from his good friend Dracula) i'm calling the cops.

Man i should really watch season 1 again.
First seasons are always interesting

This whole discussion has actually really made me want to rewatch the whole show (probably skipping some episodes in the last two seasons) and Angel too while I'm at it.

Joss Whedon has a new show called the Nevers coming out next year (while depending on how long the Corona Virus sticks around) about people in Victorian London getting super powers, it’s a sci-fi Horror show and I’m pretty excited for it
If your a big Joss Whedon fan like me you should def check it out when it eventually comes out

So Hayao Miyazaki apparently didn’t like Fantasia 2000 either.

So Hayao Miyazaki apparently didn’t like Fantasia 2000 either.
Well no one did. It had a couple neat bits but it was a super shallow inferior version of the original in basically every way… and also only about half the run time.
-
Fantasia is my favorite Disney movie and my second favorite film of all time. That being said, I thought Fantasia 2000 was…pretty good. But yes, it is very much an inferior watered-down version of the original. And it's clear the Disney execs were terrified of alienating viewers and, thus, tried to please everyone (and, consequently, pleased no one).
There are some great ideas and animation on display, but the movie really needed more time to explore what they could really do (it would've been so cool if they incorporated more segments from Carnival of Animals). Plus, it was kinda weird that every segment had to have a story to it, even the Beethoven segment, which was supposed to be abstract like Toccata and Fugue.
-
I won't be satisfied until I get a Fantasia with Pictures at an Exhibition used.
-
So Hayao Miyazaki apparently didn’t like Fantasia 2000 either.
Miyazaki doesn't like much of anything but he's not wrong in thinking Fantasia 2000 wasn't very good either.
-
"Fantasia 2000 = Bad" is one of those apparent truisms I never new about until I saw it on the internet. I thought it was perfectly fine. I liked the butterflies, the whales, the firebird, I REALLY liked rhapsody in blue, and I even liked the flamingo.
-

I guess he and Scorsese have something in common.

Grumpy old men who think nobody but them can make films could either get along based on mutual hate of them punk kids or hate each other more. Either way it would be fun to lock them in a box and see what happens

You’d have to trick Miyazaki into going as apparently telling him Scorsese wants to meet him doesn’t make him all that enthusiastic.

Amphibia is to start season two, weakly this time, on 7/11.
The Owl House is also to return airing the same date, though it's probably the episode the aired on Turkey. -

No, that episode comes after the episode that's airing on 7/11.
Production schedules are weird.
-
Well it’s already weird that one episode was aired on Turkey beforehand so…Disney playing darts with the schedule
-
To be fair the pandemic is fucking with the schedules of everything on tv/movies.
-
Nah, Disney took 4 years to air Gravity Falls, Nick took 2 to air Korra.
Diseny been doing sitting on top of episodes to generate hype and boost the audience numbers.
