In anticipation of the upcoming movie, Disney has put together a tribute album, with bands doing covers of a lot of the old songs, and its up for preview listen on NPR.
http://www.npr.org/2011/08/14/138984517/first-listen-muppets-the-green-album?sc=tw
The album comes out August 23rd, and the new film this Thanksgiving.
1. OK Go: “Muppet Show Theme”
2. Weezer and Paramore’s Hayley Williams: “Rainbow Connection”
3. The Fray: “Mahna Mahna”
4. Alkaline Trio: “Moving Right Along”
5. My Morning Jacket: “Our World”
6. Amy Lee: “Halfway Down the Stairs”
7. Sondre Lerche: “Mr. Bassman”
8. The Airborne Toxic Event: “Wishing Song”
9. Atreyu’s Brandon Saller and Good Charlotte’s Billy Martin: “Night Life”
10. Andrew Bird: “Bein’ Green”
11. Matt Nathanson: “I Hope That Something Better Comes Along”
12. Rachael Yamagata: “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday”.Hrm, its been 3 months since this thread was made, I suppose I can let the romantic comedy joke slide now and make it an official Muppets thread… but it'd be nice to still be able to surprise someone that hasn't seen it yet. Hrm. How to go about it....
-
Definitely interested in seeing this.
-
I've managed to dupe a lot of people using this thread as the idea. So I would love to see it kept like this. I think the romantic comedy trailer is the most powerful one too. Just so much more memorable.

Nah, just keep the romantic comedy title.
And that album's a brilliant idea, I especially look forward to Weezer's version of The Rainbow Connection. Though I'm not a big fan of Hayley Williams :/.
-
I like Amy Adams, and I agree she was good in Enchanted. Not big on the romcoms though. Especially if they have Adam Sandler or Jennifer Aniston … or both. The Muppet movie looks great though, can't wait to see it ever since that Kermot x Johnny Depp teaser from the premiere of PotC4.
-
Weezer's Rainbow Connection is pretty great. And probably the most sedate thing Weezer has ever done. Mahna Mahna sounds pretty much the same. Moving Right Along is a lotta fun. I Hope That Something Better Comes Along loses something not being a duet.
A couple songs are pretty close to their originals, but a lot are pretty different. I like a smattering of these, but I also really dislike a few of them too. Nightlife is pretty blargh, but it was never one of their better songs anyway. The starting track takes all the fun out of the Muppet Show Theme. Shame the entire album is only 36 minutes, they could have easily done another dozen songs to balance out the ick ones. (I'd love to hear a new take on "Going to Morrow". Or the Muppet Babies theme, whynot?)
I'll leave the Romantic Comedy title, since I guess everyone knows what the thread really is anyway, and what it updating means.
-
Listening to Moving Right Along now. It is quite fun, though I prefer the original version. The jokes get lost a little this way.
Still, it's a great initiative. -
Wow, I really REALLY dislike the OK Go cover of the Muppets Theme. I seriously had to force myself to listen to all of it. Talk about sucking all fun out of the song. Thankfully at least Rainbow Connection and Mahna Mahna maintained the feel of the original songs. I'll listen to the rest, but I went from "Must buy this!!!!" to "ehhh I'll get around to it" real damn quick >_> .
EDIT: The rest of the album is pretty good, but hotdamn do I hate that first song >_<
-
You could change the title to something like "It's not easy being a (good) romantic comedy".
-
Oooh RomComs? Yeah I like those I-Muppets?! o.0
Well this is about as expected as an elephant in the fridge….
is hooked and keeps reading
-
@RobbyBevard:
6. Amy Lee: “Halfway Down the Stairs”
Amy Lee? As in Evanescence's Amy Lee? MY Amy Lee?
looks up
YUP! The very same. Her singing for it is nice, but…..they really should have just have it be her and a piano with the song. I don't like the synth they have with it. She can rock your shit with the piano, and really, this song would have been great with just her and her playing the keys. shrug Still, I like it. It's kind of haunting, which I don't like, but her voice is plain enough to mix with Robin the Frog.
Although, I really shouldn't be surprised, knowing who Amy is.

Love Actually is arguably the greatest movie in the history of mankind.
YES. Love, Actually is still one of my favorite movies ever! That and Shaun of the Dead.
-
According to the official Disney Pixar Twitter feed, one cartoon short was just not enough for the TOY STORY characters this year. We'll be getting "Small Fry" in front of THE MUPPETS.
The Toy Story crew and the Muppets in one movie expperience - that may just be too much joy for mere mortals to handle.

Like I needed any more incentive to see this opening night? 8D
-
The offical OK Go video for the the theme song. It has all the fun that the actual, very monotone, song lacks. This makes it clear it was always meant to have the muppets interacting and on the track… they just... aren't on the CD.
Actually a lot of fun.

The Pig with the Frog Tatoo trailer
-
Oh my God. That's a trailer? With all the shameless advertisement talk and fourth wall breaking and using words like "awesome" and "dude"?
…
Beautiful
:,)

Just thought I'd mention that it's Jim Henson's 75th birthday today and Google is doing something pretty nifty in celebration of it.
-
What does it actually do? I'm not getting any sound or anything.
-
When you click on each Muppet they'll follow your cursor around the screen, and if you hold down on right clikc then their mouths will open. Also, I somehow got the "E" Muppet to eat the "L" Muppet.
-
Thanksgiving!? I thought this was coming out in October ; _____ ;

I got the first O puppet to shoot his glasses off into the air. Twice. But no idea how.

Yeah, I got him to do that too. So yeah, no idea how the Google doodle is supposed to work.
-
dammit. This made me wanna watch all of the old stuff. I saw a few episodes of the first season on youtube and am currently watching 'The Muppet Movie' but what else is actually worth watching aside from the main show and the first film? I've heard mixed on most of the rest of the films so.

I loved Muppets Christmas Carol as a kid, so I can definitely recommend that. And it's been a while since I've seen them, but I guess you could also check out Great Muppet Caper and Muppet Treasure Island as well. Whatever you do, though, stay away from Muppets in Space. Also, you could check out the Muppets Babies cartoon.
-
Nobodyman's made some good suggestions, but my personal favorite Muppet movie/special is the 1987 special, A Muppet Family Christmas. It features many of Jim Henson's characters, and not just from the Muppet crew, either; it's not the season, but I highly recommend it.
What is it about Muppets and Christmas that makes such a great combination?
-
Apologies for the double-posting (it HAS been two weeks), but we got the new trailer today!
Yep. Opening night, first in line. That's me.
-
"Are you a teenage mutant ninja turtle?"
"Yes I am."LOL. Wow.
-
"We should travel by map!"
Genius.
-
Can't wait. From what I've gathered first half is getting them back together and the second half is pretty much a new muppet show.
Wish Disney weren't holding back till Feb for it tho. Why can't we have it for Christmas :/
-
I love them so much for that 3D joke.
-
Only like, one more month to go, right?
Really looking forward to this. Didn't think I would be, but I am. Gonna see it in theatres. Opening night even, maybe.
-
Okay, rewatching the whole 3nd trailer, and it's still awesome.
But I just noticed something VERY interesting. At 1:15, with the Pepe and Miss Piggy dance scene rehearsal. Look at their outfits. And a 'lift'. Am I the only one sensing a "Dirty Dancing" spoof/homage there?
I'd love to get a Kermit/Miss Piggy "Time of my Life" scene out of this movie. LOVE.
EDIT: Still can't wait for the Muppets to come on WWE RAW on Halloween too.
-
I dunno why but I hate both Piggy and Pepe. Both just seem kinda annoying to me. Although probably not more than Wayne and Wanda.
And after watching some of the other films and episodes I've come to the conclusion that Bunsen Honeydew is an ass. I just assumed he always mistakenly sent Beaker to doom. But seems to be pretty much intentional. (Especially in Muppet Caper)
-
Hey guys, posters!
!
!
!
!
-
Heh. Statler and Waldorf get their own poster. Nice.
Not quite sure how Kermit gets the lipstick marks from Piggy though.
-
Hey guys, posters!
Somehow they look really weird in high quality photos. :p

@RobbyBevard:
The Pig with the Frog Tatoo trailer
Also holy shit that trailer is awesome. My expectations for the movie are really high now.
-
! Damn it Robby, this joke was so good I actually thought there were no Muppets threads and I made one!
Damn, this movie looks amazing, Ill go watch it with my friends.
-
Really excited about this. Too bad Germany has to wait until January.
Watch it come out earlier and I miss it like Scott Pilgrim >_>
-
Is it time to change the thread title?
Is it time to play the music?
Is it time to light the lights? -

And miss out on fun like this?

Good point. Good point.
-
One more parody video. This one is the icing on the cake.
[hide]
[/hide]So absolutely seeing this in theatres.
-
IMO, this has been some of the best movie marketing since The Dark Knight. The musical videos that got people interested in Muppets again, these parody trailers, the facebook 'one zillion likes' thing…
-
This movie can't come any sooner!
-
We have a few short clips from the movie, 2 of them giving us a little taste of the newest Muppet, Walter!
!
!
!I actually think I'll like him in the movie. And these clips have me even more excited!
-
Okay, the Miss Piggy clip alone has me stoked. Not like I wasn't already . . . . .
-
At this point I'm trying to avoid watching any more clips. Considering I think I know half the movie already by now…
