Eh, it's definitely not the most original direction.
But this is still a HUGE HUGE move for ND. This, to me at least, demonstrates that they are willing to play around and put their foot down rather than rinsing-repeating the games with better graphics.
I don't know how the execution will be. But at the same time, this feels like a breath of fresh air from a developer that has spend the last 13 years or so pumping out some of the most mechanically mediocre, visually pretty and narratively hollow games whose entire aim was to appeal to as many people as it can without having any sort of substance.
But them (SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE GAME OR HAVEN'T READ ANY SPOILERS).
Also the spoilers I'm about to mention are from the leak videos. So if you haven't watched them and only read the 4chan summary then read it with your own discretion. FINAL WARNING
! Introducing Abby, who is the daughter the surgeon that Joel killed at the ending of TLOU1, comes back to get revenge on Joel and ends up "killing" him (could be alive but the leak videos suggest that he dies) AND THEN the game switches its perspective from Ellie to Abby where the player is playing as Abby and will see Ellie become the villain of sorts as she comes after Abby, sounds interesting and far different from ND usual straight-forward approach.
! I assume it's gonna be a cat-and-mouse type deal with the player being Abby when Ellie finds her and you, the player, is now fighting Ellie.
Overall, I'm pretty excited for it. Even if they fail, at least they finally tried to get outta of their comfort zone. I spend over 3 years since its first trailer being completely uninterested by the game that felt like a tacked on sequel for the sake of it but the leaks have made it far far more interesting than the trailers.
