I think Hawks did actually try and dodge roll out the way of Dabi’s attack but still got clipped by it. Even if he didn’t, I wouldn’t exactly blame him for not having colour of observation haki and not seeing an attack like that bursting through the wall out of nowhere.
My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
-
-
So exactly what should have been Hawks' counteract against a giant blue fireball coming out of the wall in an instant?
To not be in the situation where he can get attacked from behind like that. His back was turned away from open door most of the time he was in there. The wall the flame came out was next to the door. He was sloppy. He was dumbed down.
One doesn't need special foresight ability to predict problems if they're currently on their own inside an enemy base in an enclosed space with only one exit and no support. To facilitate this entire coordinated attack without arousing suspicion from the enemy and then failing to take precautions against such a real danger? Dumb.
Everyone saw it coming a mile away so it wasn't even especially subtle. It's like watching someone in a horror movie about a creepy abandoned house go to its basement alone. Since when is that considered good writing?
-
Well Best Jeanist has been "missing" ever since Hawks delivered his "head" to the League of Villains in order to gain their acceptance.
But yeah it looks like Jeanist's work after looking at his left leg, the pant leg looks twisted unnaturally and there is something attacking above his left ankle, although look a bit thick for strings.
I don't think Best Jeanist helped Tokoyami but I love the idea of him also being there undercover. It'd take advantage of us never seeing his full face. And, if he's playing dead, why not do it under the PLF's nose? The only problem with the theory is him making his quirk seem different enough from usual.
So… careless?
Don't have to be a genius to take into account the fact you're inside enemy base and in an area where you could be surprised easily. Which ended up happening. I was on edge entire chapter, expecting he might get attacked from behind, looking at his wings getting smaller and smaller but it never occurred to him he's in a shitty spot if one of the enemies, which this base is full of, suddenly comes knocking.
Again, if this was any other character, sure. You don't build a master schemer and tactician and then have him surprised in such a simplistic manner.
I'm willing to let Hawks slide because if it had been almost anyone else he probably would've taken them down easily. Plus, the whole building's falling apart. Most people would be either going for the heroes or escaping. And, let's not downplay Dabi's first attack. Blasting the wall to get to Hawks was a smart move.
-
If Re-Destro had his real legs he'd won.
So the owner of a major company that just entered the business of hero gear has a prosthetic leges (not compatible to the strength of his quirk) shabbier than the prosthetic arm Giran gave to Compress (one week fight Machia straight and the thing still survived the battle against MLA).
The guy owner of a tech company that put hundred of bugs on Hawks' wings and had satellites lock down the LoV until they arrived at Deika couldn't bother to use the same satellites to watch the actions of major players (Top 10 heroes and other important figures).
The leader of a political group and probably a member of the congress didn't hear nothing through the grapevine nor bother to bribe some other political figures to keep an eye of put in check the Hero Commission (let's be real, that's how politics work).
So yeah I while I agree with your point Nectar, I stand by my argument; Hori hype the villains only for them to have lackluster actuation in front of the heroes; display incompetence or end up being a threat lesser than they appeared to be. -
To not be in the situation where he can get attacked from behind like that.
Hawks did not have the affordance of picking the place and circumstances of facing against Twice.
"Sorry Twice, could you do me a solid and we'll move somewhere else so that none of your friends show up as we battle"
The compound was distracted by the hero attack, Twice was alone and separated from everyone else. Hawks had no choice but to take the opportunity or lest Twice joins the fight. His back was turned away from open door most of the time he was in there.
I believe that's called 'putting yourself between the target and exit to prevent their escape'. Or did you mean Hawks should have always been facing the door while apprehending Twice behind him.
The wall the flame came out was next to the door. He was sloppy. He was dumbed down.
Does that matter? Dabi and his point of attack was still hidden behind the wall and Hawks was distracted by something that needed his full attention: finishing off Twice while he was making one last desparate attack.
-
So… careless?
Don't have to be a genius to take into account the fact you're inside enemy base and in an area where you could be surprised easily.
They were in a secluded area all while the base was collapsing being infiltrated by heroes, the last thing on everyone's minds was locating Hawks hence why the only one to go the opposite direction was Dabi because he never trusted him.
You don't build a master schemer and tactician and then have him surprised in such a simplistic manner.
Dabi was only able to surprise Hawks because all his feathers was centered on Twice and his clone army hence why he waited for their conversation to end. That's far from simplistic
-
You guys might consider it fine, but for me it's lazy and superficial.

The only thing I can say about Re-Destro's legs are that they could be his causal legs and not his battle ones. Or, maybe Full Power Dark Shadow is just that strong. But, yeah, I'm surprised Hori didn't introduce a fake super strong metal for Detnerat's items. Or, maybe it's super rust proof in case Shiggy went crazy.
Guess I'll activate Nitpick Mode too and say it was Skeptic's company that does the monitoring. And, why would he go through all the trouble of using satellites to watch heroes when he could just monitor the source, Hawks? He can't exactly follow people with them 24/7.
As for Trumpet… Hm…uhh… I guess only the tippy-top brass knew about it and purposely kept it that way to block Trumpet's snitches. She (the HSC Head) most likely only collaborated with Tsuchuchi, a trusted friend of All Might when the time was right. But, yeah, having an evil politician in MHA was interesting and I hoped Hori would do more with it.
I'm not willing to give up on the PLF yet. They're only in this position because of an excellent plan started by the HSC and Hawks executing it brilliantly. It's still early in the arc. If they can take down some of the Top 10 heroes and if the Commanders escape I'll consider this arc a win for them.
-
To be fair with Hawks, his feathers quirk only wins against Dabi´s if he attacks first, since even Endeavor´s fire burned his feathers being weaker than Dabi´s blue one. If Hawks has even one feather left he should be able to defeat Dabi easily since that guy´s reaction time can´t keep up with the faster heroes (like Gran Torino) That said, since Dabi is most likely Endeavor´s lost son and Hawks admires Enji, it would be interesting if the reveal happens now.
And as much I like Twice, he still is a terrorist and Hawks is doing his job. Betraying his kindness isn´t heroic, but neither is atacking the U.A. children or planing to kill thousands of innocents. Villains have to be captured for the sake of society, but I kind of wish that Hori told us if they can go back to society once they have paid their time, so far the only villain that gets a second chance is Gentle and he was barely one. I want to know if villain´s reinsertion is a thing MHA´s universe, I mean, they would have to expend a good couple of years in jail if they killed people, but still.

Fair enough. But Dark Shadow is scared of Machia.

Didn't his satellites did just that with the LoV before Deika?, as back down form the fight with us and we'll have every hero in Japan converging to where you are no matter where you try to run of hide. If they went all the way to place bugs on Hawks why not go the extra mile? Here buddy use these contacts or this new visor, with it we can see all you see, why not do us a solid an try to place bugs on the HSC, we know you have a hot back with them.

Yes, there's gonna have a give an take between heroes taking the upper hand and villains gaining that, but so far we are awaiting to Shigi get out of the cocoon, and Machi receive a message through the frequencies of the Lord.

If we add the stuff from Vigilantes, we see that the society is not as bright as the Heroes side want to paint it. There's discrimination against mutant types, and those with abnormal body shapes and sizes don't receive any kind of special inclusion in society. It's basically, if your quirk is freaky enough for you you not fit is society, though luck for you go to jail or find yourself a way to fit in.
-
Re-Destro’s legs gave out to Dark Shadow only because they have been recently reattached. I would assume that if that were not the case, then he would have been able to overwhelm it pretty quickly.
-

We don't know the duration of Compress arm went on during the fight also complaining about the quality of the company's products when throughout the MVA arc their products failed why didn't you complain about Re-Destro's Mecha suit instantly losing to Shigaraki?
The guy owner of a tech company that put hundred of bugs on Hawks' wings and had satellites lock down the LoV until they arrived at Deika couldn't bother to use the same satellites to watch the actions of major players (Top 10 heroes and other important figures).
Why the hell would he compromise his own operation by spying on the top heroes? The reason why he could spy on the LoV because they had no resources to react while the heroes are backed by the judicial system which FGI isn't above.
The leader of a political group and probably a member of the congress didn't hear nothing through the grapevine nor bother to bribe some other political figures to keep an eye of put in check the Hero Commission (let's be real, that's how politics work).
Again why would he? The whole point of the operation was that it was a surprise that nobody other than a few officials knew about, you're asking for a character to have foresight for no reason especially when the MVA has members across the nation out and the open and within the heroes so it's no surprise they were able to locate them one after another.

So you just want another Aizen.
-
I'm not gonna further argue on the issue, but for an organization that wishes to topple the gov't and has spent the last three months preparing for their big coup, it feels underwhelming that, no matter how good Hawks infiltration and the HSC preparation were that so far every thing went too smoothly. I'm not asking for plans within' plans within' plans, I'm asking for instance that Skeptical didn't freak out like he did when their base has been attacked.
-
I'm confused why so many people are so shocked that Dark Shadow could knock down Re-Destro. A few arcs ago we saw that, with enough darkness, Dark Shadow was potentially the strongest quirk in the class in terms of raw power. Here, he overpowered Re-Destro but didn't knock him out, so while Dark Shadow won this encounter, he didn't exactly defeat him either.
There's really no need to defend either of them. One did better, but they're both still strong.
-

But it is clear that the only reason that he overpowered him is because Redestro’s legs couldn’t stay attached.

My understanding was that they were isolated and killing Twice in the middle attack limited the risk of him getting support since the villains should be focus on either avoiding capture, slowing the heroes or escaping. Sadly he wasn't fast enough and Twice got reinforcements before he could finish the job.
Everyone saw it coming a mile away so it wasn't even especially subtle. It's like watching someone in a horror movie about a creepy abandoned house go to its basement alone. Since when is that considered good writing?
I mean I know I'm reading a story so I expect some things to happen. Characters don't know they are in a story. I think Deku decision to go after Mcboom was an awful decision despite knowing it would definitely work out.
Plus they showed Dabi to the readers last chapter so it would be pretty hard for a reader not to see it coming.
-
You guys might consider it fine, but for me it's lazy and superficial.
It helps to not expect Hawks to pull off the miraculous task of setting up a very convenient environment that's both indetectable and cannot be interfered with, lure Twice there beforehand without raising suspicion and do it all within enemy territory.
One way or another, Hawks was always going to face off against Twice with the threat of someone coming in hanging over his head. That's why he did it under the best conditions he could manage to mitigate the risk. That he was caught was simply bad luck on his part, not stupidity.
-
I hope most of the heroes will die soon and the era of Shigaraki will begin. Then we can have a time skip.

! I went the 5 stages of our best/worst boy Twice demise, Hori gave us one of the most creative cock blocks when the redacted Dabi's revealing his name. And Shigi is about to awake.
-
What are the odds some of us stopped reading the manga while the site was down. Wouldn't that be an interesting time to miss out on? I can't believe what happened myself…
! I can't believe Fat Gum was a taxi all this time. I never saw that coming!
! …no really though Twice's story is a tragedy. A good thing about seeing Season 4, knowing the My Villian Academia arc, and seeing this is that you can easily see how this all came together without giving anything away. I thought nothing of Twice forming a friendship with Toga, and after the battle with the meta liberation army I assumed that Twice was destined to make a big splash in a future arc. But no, that was all a set up for his future assassination. It's incredibly sad, and I don't think his last meeting with Toga changes the fact that this guy has been struggling all his life, got generally rejected by society, then killed off when they saw him as a threat. The League of Villains have a legit reason to rally together against the heroes now, and that'll make things interesting going forward.
! Also, jesus christ Miruko. We get it, you're a badass. Stop getting maimed. -
! Not gonna lie, I cried over Twice when Toga thanked him. What a sweet goodbye.
I was glad Twice got some form of closure in his final moments, and it hit me in the heart to see Toga showing subtle emotional reactions to the sight in front of her.
Their partnership was one of my favourite aspects of the Overaul arc, and it was fresh in my mind thanks to season 4, so this hit me with full effect.
She's definitely gonna miss him.
! And you know what?
Consider how badly Toga wanted some revenge after Overhaul killed Magne.
I'd say that Twice was a hundred times closer to Toga than Magne.
! What I'm saying is… I want her to go wild for the rest of the arc.
I would love to see Toga act on intense feelings of revenge for her dear comrade Jin.
! My main thought is that she could be the one to finish off Hawks.
After all, during her childhood flashback we saw her eating a bird.
It would be pretty fucking metal if that could be turned into foreshadowing.
! EDIT:
Shit.... a dark thought occurred.
Tokoyami is pretty damn strong for a student, yes?
His quirk overpowered Moonfish like he was nothing, and his ability is really high.
Even Present Mic was like "is this the best quirk ever??" when he quickly beat Momo at the sports festival.
! Now.... if a student were to die in this arc... why not cull the fringe powerhouse?
What if the bird Toga kills... could be Tokoyami? Just a dark idea. -
One thing is clear…
! Even if most heroes are in the clear, the Hero Commission isn't. They didn't raise Hawks to be a hero but to be their personal fixer.
-
Why are we in spoiler talk the chapter has been out over a week?
Having the site go down when so much happened was painful. I will never forgive Hawks. He's permanently on my shit list.

Wait…What? I'm not sure what you mean lol.
The winged rat is on my shit list too. And them I joked that he was responsable for the DMCA the got the site down, so we could discuss his heinous acts and hence he would lose popularity. Almost all according to his keikaku, but it failed.
-
Twice died because he was the single most dangerous member of the Legion of Doom by a ridiculous margin and also the most sympathetic.
No one would give a fuck if Hawks offed Dabi, if anything people would probably be happy.
-
Twice was definitely the only villain I care about. The rest no longer matter to me. If Toga has some of his blood she could still eff up the place though since she unlocked quirk use.
-
Funny thing, I'm still in the "Twice was sympathetic, yes, but he was still wrong in that he supported a group that was going to hurt people" mindset. That is, yes, I like the guy but I don't think it can be denied that his actions had consequences that override his personal issues. Lives were on the line, and Hawks was right to act.
Or, that's how I felt a few weeks ago, but in this time I've been questioning how Hawks went about it. Was assassination really the right method here? Was there no other way? It's a question that I hope the main cast will deal with later. We have a good moral quandary going in this story line.
Also, I agree with Cyclone_Baroness here. With Twice gone, the League has lost all it's sympathetic characters. Yeah Toga is likeable, and it's sad what happened to Shigaraki, but they all have enough blood on their hands to justify whatever happens to them at this point. It's a funny thing, with Twice's death his group becomes more expendable somehow.
Lastly, here's a neat animation thing I stumbled upon:
-
Twice place's should've been the MHAverse equivalent of Arkham Asylum where through therapy he could overcome his trauma and been rehabilitated, so far besides the light mention of quirk counseling it doesn't appear that such place exists.
Unfortunately for him he found his safety net, the place where he felt he belonged among a zombie buttler, a neet with anger issues, a serial killer tsundere, the one Todoroki that is not dense, a failed magician a cosplayer and persecuted LGBT criminal. Not exactly the appropriate place to heal trauma. -
If Twice didn't want to surrender and come quietly (and he didn't), then there was almost no other option than to off him.
One Shigaraki is dangerous enough. A clone army of Shigarakis is game over for the world.
-
@Cyan:
and also the most sympathetic.
Twice was definitely the only villain I care about.
This is why I cried for him.
I love Toga, but I probably wouldn't cry for her if she died. She just wants the freedom to be violent to others without consequences.
Twice wanted a place where he belonged, and he was willing to die for it… and did...He was a constant source of levity, his friendship with Toga felt genuine and warm despite them being villains,
he had a legitimately sympathetic backstory concerning his lack of place in society and traumatic experience with his own clones,
he beat himself up with guilt over Magne's death, telling Shigaraki that he may be a villain but he's "a human too",
he saved Toga's life after her fight with Curious, and rescued her from capture before his death. He was amazing and I'm gonna miss him really badly.
Again, it really touched my heart that he was able to interact with Toga one last time.
Hugging him and thanking him really got my tears flowing. -
What makes the hit harder, is that Toga feels that something is off and her friend needs comfort. And she gaves him that.
-
Well Hawks might have killed Twice, but he didn't kill Best Jeanist. Long live Best Jeanist! You can make your reappearance anytime now considering Hawks cover is blown…
-
Still thinking Jeanist might be nomu-ifed. Or messed up. At the very least Bakugo has to encounter him or we'll never get his damn hero name. Or we'll get Bakugo's hero name…But it'll be a black text bubble.
-
Best Jeanist will reveal he did a heel turn and replaces Twice in the Legion of Doom.
-
What makes the hit harder, is that Toga feels that something is off and her friend needs comfort. And she gaves him that.
Which is why I'm hoping from the bottom of my heart that Toga goes ape shit for some revenge soon.
She got zealously mad over Magne's death,
so I want to see her cut loose over Twice's death and scare us with how much carnage she causes for the heroes.…..why are you doing this to me, Hori?
Why am I so much more invested in the villains and rooting for them?
Why do I sympathize with the Doctor and get the feeling that the heroes are being bullies and need to leave the villains alone?
It's such a weird feeling, man. Like... what the heck? -
Fataxi is adorable.
! Twice was easily my favorite character in terms of writing. Each term we learn more of him he gets better. And I will say everytime we got some focus I was worried he would get mess up in some way. But he stayed consistent until the very end.
! So seeing him actually be dead is a shame.I thought he might just need an hospital but no he's gone and that's sad. But sad in the good satisfying. He went out trying to protect his friends as he should.
! Twice had been there for quite some timeIt's the author has shaken some of his fears and is more than willing to kill now. Now I'm just wondering if Hawks is about to die. I hope not.
! I suppose Flamebeard put his son in the same program Hawks was or at least gave him to the commission in exchange of the promise they will make him stronger.
! Also Dabi not giving a f about Facepalm plan makes him more interesting to me. He kinda always bored me with his too cool for school attitude.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Twice is OP as hell as proven by the villain arc. Hawks tried to talk at the beginning but it was pretty clear he was about to rampage and with Dabi on his ass he didn't have much other options.
-
It sucks Twice is dead but I was hoping he'd at least be captured. Makes me wonder if all the LoV will die at the end. Well, except for Toga. She might make it.
It's gonna be strange without the heart of the League around, but it looks like Horikoshi is shifting gears toward Dabi and whatever he's got planned. With what we know now I seriously doubt he's just been going out burning random thugs. He's been busy doing stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if he's recruiting other Stain fanboys for his own team.
And, then there's Mr. Compress. What exactly is his reason for joining the League? After the Dabi/Stain thing, who knows what's really going on in his head. Almost glad Twice is dead so he won't have to see the League potentially implode.
Also, what the hell is up with Detnerat and the Advisers? Where's the support items Detnerat supposed to be making? And, what's the point of the Advisers? We've barely seen them do anything this arc. Yeah, this isn't there time to shine at all. Guess Hori's putting them on the back burner for a later arc. And, if that's the case, could one of the big reasons for the arc be the heroes getting crushed by Shiggy and Giggy? Look, if Crust survives the arc I'll be shocked.
As for Hawks, he's dead. Maybe not now, but his recorder probably has Dabi's confession so he's not needed to tell anyone.

One thing is clear…
! Even if most heroes are in the clear, the Hero Commission isn't. They didn't raise Hawks to be a hero but to be their personal fixer.
I'd say a little of both. But, yeah, they didn't totally have Hawks' best interest in mind when they recruited him.
I hope Hori expands on that, maybe have Dabi expose the Commission or something.
Twice was definitely the only villain I care about. The rest no longer matter to me. If Toga has some of his blood she could still eff up the place though since she unlocked quirk use.
I care about the others, but Twice was the heart of the team. Maybe Spinner can step up? If not, they've lost a lot of what makes them interesting as a group.
Well Hawks might have killed Twice, but he didn't kill Best Jeanist. Long live Best Jeanist! You can make your reappearance anytime now considering Hawks cover is blown…
Agreed. Best Jeanist can't be dead. If he gave Twice all those chances I'm assuming he told Jeanist about his mission so he'd go into hiding.
-
Hawks tried, but once Dabi was in the picture, the only way to end Twice’s threat was to kill him. Multiple Shiggis or Machias wasn’t a good idea for anyone.
-
I can't wait to see more instances of Dabi having a net negative contribution to the Legion of Doom.
-
My Hero Vigilantes 74 and 75 talk.
Courtesy spoiler tag.
! We now have an official definition of villain in the MHU: Repeat offenders charged with quirk-based crimes.
! I'm a bit annoyed no one in the police is questioning how a teenager with a leap quirk got her hands on bombs and electronic hacking equipment but hopefully Detective Tsukauchi is on the case.
! Knuckleduster's letter praising Koichi was heartwarming and we both like Koichi because of his genuinely kind personality. I'm really starting to think KD's dead or comatose now or else he would've contacted Koichi in-person. I did like the little mention of him telling Koichi to learn how to land from a fall. I'm guessing Koichi will figure out how to "fly" like he did when saving Makoto way back when.
! I really love where this series is going in terms of what makes a hero or villain. We have Koichi and Pop Step considered at least criminals now, but No. 6 has a hero's license and will no doubt pursue Koichi as his hero persona. Now, I'm starting to get why he didn't just go after Koichi and kill him earlier. He's gonna try becoming the next O'Clock by taking down the original's protege and be praised for it. It's totally something No. 6 would do.
! Still, I have no idea how Koichi's gonna take him down. My guess is the true hero community will come to his aid. -

Does he have any positive contribution?

Yeah…He's kinda just there to snark and be mysterious.

Didn't Dabi just make it clear he has a powerful role to play. He revealed his name to Hawks. He has a grudge against the Todoroki family. He knows Hawks real name and is about the same age as him. He doesn't care about Shigaraki's goals, he truly wants to uphold Stain's goals.
Endeavor has a powerful fire quirk and is the #1 hero. His oldest son is dead/missing and all of his children hold a huge grudge against him. Could one have turned villain? It seemed strange to me that Shoto wouldn't have recognized his brother when he was trying to get Bakugo back in the forest but I guess he was raised separate from his other siblings and Dabi has had a lot of work done since then (frankenstein's monster look).
But after all this other information revealed about Dabi and intentionally not revealed (his real name) it seems pretty clear that he is Endeavor's oldest son and probably met Hawks growing up as a kid considering they'd be similar in age and Hawks idolized Endeavor.

By this point, Dabi not being Touya doesn't make sense.

The Dabi situation is the same as the Tobi being Obito story with the author dragging it out for no reason.

Just like one piece, when a character was revealed to be another character, after like 30 hints and a ton of confirmation beyond "this is the same as that", and them came that chapter that directly pointed it out it made me remeber that we aren't the target audience, and they aren't writting the manga thinking it's going to be disected into atoms to see if any character's birthday matches a character's death day.
Besides, these clues have been told to whom in story? a bunch of different people without half of the context, and what is the purpose of the reveal? but to tear down the image of heroes because Endeavor and the hero office have done pretty messed up shit and get away with it in order to keep the order, with Shiggy about to make that order unexistant, and Dabi pointing out the price tag, revealing back then, or revealing it when the whole worlds knows makes a difference.

If Touya was dead in middle school. (Which it seemed like cause of the funeral picture). How did he get so tall? My shoddy theory is that he's like Kurogiri/Shirakumo except aware he's a hodgepodge person. Perhaps a combination of Touya's quirk but the body of some child solider that proceeded Hawks. Why else would he know Hawk's real name?

It shouldn’t be another Nomu tho, the oldest one and prototype is Kurogiri, you can’t have one better than him and older as well.
