I was about to write what Robby said. The weird thing is that Catviper isn't here yet.
-
Agreed with everyone above about Marco. I mainly see him coming to heal critically injured people if the Straw Hat Grand Fleet isn't coming. I personally don't want them to come to Wano, I feel like that would stack the odds too much in the Straw Hats' favor.
Get well, Greg! You'll be even stronger when you get through this!
-
The reason why i am not buying Marco not playing a role in this arc is simply because there was literally no requisite to push him as significant all, at that moment in in Zou, that´s more or less necessary for the alliance to succeed, especially in the manner with which Oda had Neko bring up the idea.
The only thing i could buy is that Marco´s info that he has Neko deliver is so relevant against the battle vs Kaidou and the Beast Pirates that it would still make Neko finding him without bringing Marco with him necessary and worthwhile, but that in turn would feel rather cheap to be honest, since the alliance´s victory would primarily stem from knowing some kind of weakness, which made sense against characters in the first half of the Grandline who were either not used to getting hit at all or grew weaker significantly over the years after their spirit being crushed, but now, against the strongest creature in the world?
I don´t think so.And without delving too far into power semantics, the fact that the alliance needs every help that they can get is more than apparent.
-
If Marco comes the scene where he says he won't is weird. Same for the message. And we don't just get a line to dismiss him. We get scene of him taking care of Whitebeard at peace and he gives a message so Neko doesn't go back empty handed. That seems more like setup to see a bloody Marco with the village destroyed than it is about setting up his return.

Exactly. Whatever hype Marco was previously given in Zou doesn't carry more weight than Marco's own words. In fact, Inuarashi himself said that the likelihood of him being able to help was low, so you can't even say that Marco declining came out of nowhere.
If Oda has Marco change his mind later on, that's fine, but at the very least he needs to put in the work to actually show that, rather than having Marco make that decision off-screen just because he read a newspaper.

!I thought the Oda-box at the end of Dressrosa was precisely for Wano arc in terms of where SHGF was going to make their move and be relevant..

I highly doubt we will see Marco making that decision. The arc is super crowded and can't really afford to just switch to other characters in other places.
But then again Oda did say that we will be getting another look at the Reverie so maybe he will do that during it.
-
I think there is a difference to make in this topic. Even if I think that Marco showing up in Wano is possible, it does not mean I think he will help the alliance against the fight. As other have mentioned Weevil started being set up in Zou claiming he would hunt down Luffy. We later got reminded of him with Marco's message scene.
In terms of building it up, we have had intermissions in Wano, so there is room there for that, even though it would be merely one panel. Not to mention that when Weevil was introduced he was fighting against WB pirates, if any of them survived, they could go an inform Marco of Weevil's next movements.
Really, I do not think that Marco showing up diminishes his message in any way. If the message is about helping the alliance against the Beast Pirates, then him coming after that message has been delivered and acted upon works just fine. His appearance would be the gateway to a new conflict.
-
First of all we need our Big Fish in Wano. So how about Marco shows up with Jimbei after both met and defeated/fled from Weevil?
-
The message getting diminished or not is both dependent on its content and the timing Marco arrives at Wa No, but not at all does it deny him actually coming with our current knowledge.
And like previously said, his stay in the village is connected to Weevil´s whereabouts, of which we know is going after Luffy, which could lead to him coming to Wa No (or be relevant after Wa No, entirely possible), which would make sense considering he was introduced right the moment we got to the Yonkou directly.

Greg, do you think that the "hero water" from chapter 196 was a foreshadowing for something..?

I've been wondering if maybe it has a connection to Fishman Island's Energy Steroids. Both are substances held by the royal families of incredibly old kingdoms. Both offer a temporary boost in strength with a massive drawback after. You have to wonder if any other great kingdoms are hiding similar drugs in their vaults…
-
The duck squad and everything about it was so random that I doubt it.
Maybe if there was at least a short mention of a connected legend. For example, there once was a hero who drank it and fought his enemies and survived and it made him permanently stronger. Like that divine water Korin gave to Goku in Dragonball. Then I could see it coming into play in the story at some point.
But like this it's just a random steroid boost.

Pretty sure Hero water isn't a drug or something held by royals like ES. It's just a special liquid found in Alabasta that you can drink to get stronger.
I recall it can be found in the Sandora desert. Plus if ES were the same as it. They would have killed Jodi instead of just aging them.
-
I don't recall that. The source of the water was never revealed. Think an alternate translation calls it elixir. Elixir implies artificial origin. Not really sure which is more correct.
It's a liquid substance that exists in Alabasta. Makes you stronger for 5 minutes and you drop dead. People who drink it get dark marking on their arms. That's pretty much everything we know about it.

Anyone who thinks that Greenbull (Ryokugyu) might be based on Yoshio Harada should have a look at this:
[hide][/hide]
is some edgy sketch I also posted in my art-thread. shows Greenbull with different expressions. And a female MJ-slave spoon-feeding him because of fan-service. -
Seems kinda certain at this point. But feel like it's gonna be a more youthful version of him. Less pronounced facial features like those eye bags and stuff, maybe.
You're right, wouldn't give it a second look if there was no female slave for fan service. You're a sly one after all!

If Marco doesn't come to Wano who will play the role of the Pheasant in Greg's perdiction
also, I really want Zoro to face King but damn does Marco vs King not sound like an epic match up????
seriously! Two flying, fire using birds who are the top commander of there respective Yonko's crew

I feel it's the kind of thing that was just random at the time, but could be retrofitted into a small piece of the larger lore like the Ancient Kingdom handing out temporary power boosts as a last line of defence or something. In my eyes, having a second, similar substance at another kingdom is a good enough substitute for that kind of backstory. Or it could just be nothing, who knows?
-
Just noticed I wrote duck squad, lol.
I could see devil fruit users abusing it. If there was someone who can't be killed by such means or has ways to avoid side effects. They could use the prons without the cons.
Considering Oda didn't give much details, he can go in any direction he wants with it.

lmao, I figured you brought up the ducks as another thing that was just kind of there without having any broader context.
It would be interesting to see what workarounds different characters come up if for that kind of thing. I bet Brook could take any of the strength drugs with impunity, save maybe for his afro turning white if he took an Energy Steroid.

What about the guy from Crocus met in the cover story. He dressed in Wano style clothes so will he show up??
Kawamatsu was most likely already imprisoned so it can't be him.
So who can it be

My money is back on it being Scopper.

I wonder if it's Oden's dad, Sukiyaki? There wasn't any word about him dying, and the figure did have white hair. Plus, someone has to rule for Momonosuke once this all is resolved.
-
When do you guys think we'll see Sir Crocodile's backstory
-
When do you guys think we'll see Sir Crocodile's backstory
In one of the many Whitebeard flashbacks. Probably the next time Weevil enters the scene.
I don't expect much though. Just him as a woman.
-

Right after our lord and savior Meadows shows up

Either him or Calico Yoki. Why is Laboon making a WTF-face? And is it a WTF-face at all? Can't tell for sure.

It could definitely be him as well, though I wonder about the Wano style hat if that's the case.
-
Yeah Yoki is a possibility but I think this guy will be connected to Wano so dunno if Yoki would fit in.
Other question.
I ask myself from time to time why Jinbe hasn't seeked out for Shanks protecting Fishmen Island.
Shanks witnessed how he helped Luffy so I think he might have no problem raising his flags there.
Further more he was befriended with WB and even Rayleigh after the war
-

Does Shanks even do the protection bit? We know Whitebeard protects island, Big Mom makes deal with islands and Kaido subjugate islands. We don't really know what Shanks does or how you get to be part of his territory. Or if he even does islands outside of the New World.
And there's also that Jimbei probably don't know Shanks intimitely to make a buddy deal like Luffy could. He could have a deplorable reputation for all we know.
-
Seems like Shanks does engage in that to some extent if this cover story is any indication. Doubt he just puts flags around for the like, unless this place is special to him or something.
-

Yeah he for sure has his own territories
So maybe Big Mom was first there and Jinbe had no choice
Other question
I still want to know the Vinsmoke sibling special powers comes from the raid suits or the DNA
People being up Niji using it "without" the suit
If you look closely he still has his raid suit belt on him while during the wedding, where the suit weren't allowed, he hasn't it
So it is strange.
If the suits aren't the ones giving the special abilities like electrism why is Sanji so special giving him invisibility.
Further more I can't explain Yonji's powers without a raid suit
-
I figured it's due to Big Mom's attitude to not discriminate against anyone, which is huge considering the history of the fishmen. No, they don't get protection for free, but they potentially won't have to deal with the shit they're used to from the Government or other Pirates.
Shanks might be a nice guy, or maybe not so much, who knows. All the people of FI know is that his crew consists of 10 human males and a pet monkey, though.
-

He's a yonko I'm sure he has territories and a massive crew. I'm unsure that he has anything that points to him wanting a island below the water and basically in the first half of grandline.

I wasn't expecting another White Beard flash back except for a few moments when we get a Rox flash back
I was thinking that Croc would get his own tragic back story to become a more developed villain but I do agree on Croc being transgender
-
Shanks: "Luffy, I see you allowed one of those gross fishmen into your crew…"
Would make sense how he got to the Elder Stars so easily. He must HATE Shirahoshi.

Maybe Oda will not exactly copy or try to imitate Momotaro, though it´s too fitting to not do it.
And we still have the issue of who is gonna do the dog, Law has a dalmatian hat but that´s very stretching it, Inu is literally a humanoid dog (though he should fight Jack), but my guess was Katakuri. There are so many interesting match-ups really, i am not preferring one over the other.
-
I get the feeling not even Oda has decided who some of the team will be.

You mean Yorki? (or Yohrky or whatever the English version called him)

As long as it´s something that makes sense, which the majority do really, i do not care either way, there are so many different possibilities after all, i can understand the sentiment.
And that´s only with the characters that are already in Wa No, without Weevil, Marco, and possible Marine intervention. -

To think the "Shanks is a racist conservative/alt-right" meme has reached APforums…

Yeah, I was asking myself, where does this bullshit is coming from? It makes zero sense.

I would much rather have Katakuri be on the team up then dogstorm, though that's just my opinion, I'd be down with Law to though, especially if Kidd joined, the three of them teaming up to take down Kaido would be amazing and a great throwback to Sabody, still don't think Kidd is a pheasant or a dog lol

Kidd could be seen as a "mad dog" of sorts. Can't really think of any connection to Law with a pheasant, though.

The mad dog could definitely work for Kidd, I like that idea

Yep, it´s my sentiment as well, basically having Marco, Katakuri and Luffy.
You can also ask the question of what Law and Inu would add really, since they could not even beat Jack and Doflamingo respectively. -

seriously I feel like Oda accidentally wrote himself into a corner
then again they have a week to train, which is a shit ton of time in a shonen battle manga
