Right now I have my free trial and even got a few. But I'm hoarding hammers just in case.

I just beat Galeem in World pf Light, anyone know if theres a way to fight it again outside of story mode? It was very impressive looking but I was so consumed with winning I couldn't really appreciate what I was looking at.
-
Goddamn the gym in WoL is amazing.
Also, was Challenger's Approach always there or is it just a sometimes thing?

The pink door in Games & More? From what I understand, it pops up when you have failed challenger battles to give you a second chance, but it doesn't stay forever. Much like the regular unlocking method, there's a cooldown period of 10 or so minutes.

Well, I just used it to get Ganondorf and Palutena, but I feel like I would've noticed it sooner since there were other characters I failed against earlier.
-
Challengers aproach is the rematch for any unlocking failed, it can accumulate battles, and once a fighter is there, they won't interrupt any other challenge triggered, and you can accumulate at least 2 battles, I'm not sure if you can have more. If you fail, the battle stays there.
Is there a "you got all music" message? They don't show up on the shop, I got all the challenges with them, and I 100% wol, and no message.

–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The reported changes are primarily small visual bugs, it seems.
-
Reddit was offended because the sparse change notes. It could not be a balance patch with less than one week of data. It was all bugfixs.
-
The balance patch HAS to have Pichu Down-B nerfed.
-
Why would anyone nerf Pichu? The character is good but it's the lightest in the game and it hurts itself. The trade off is logical, and more balanced than several in the cast who have good moves, good movement, and don't hurt themselves nor fly off the stage at 50%
-
Aaaand all fighters unlocked. Also looks like I'm getting close to the end of WoL, but I'm still missing a ton of fighters.
-
Finished the adventure mode last night
! The true ending kind of made the whole thing worth it. Unlike master fortress, it was super fun and felt challenging in a reasonable way, and the little bonus right before the end had me grinning. I did not expect it and I was super psyched about it.
! I will say I was a bit disappointed in that I had heard there were more cutscenes, but they were just generic things fighting each other. It still makes no sense that there's some light asshole and some dark asshole and for some reason we want to murder them both.Outside of adventure, I've been playing tons of matches to get a grip on the characters I like. Palutena, Pkmn Trainer, Wolf and Ridley all wound up as pleasant to play as I was hoping. I love how much stronger Palutena feels, it's like controlling a higher tier character. And Ridley is so brutal and good, I love how he feels.
And then I'm also probably promoting Pichu from secondary to main status, because there's something about using it that feels super great, and it's super adorable in this game.
Still tons of secondaries I like, particularly Dark Samus. I'm also not using K. Rool, Zelda, Robin or Wii Fit as much as I thought I would.Overall I love how fast everyone feels… the characters in general just make sense.
-
So far, I've really been enjoying WoL. I do miss some extra variety in terms of break the targets or something, but half the fun (for me) is seeing how the character theme comes neatly together. And it is LONG. I've only unlocked ~1/3 the roster through the world, albeit I'm not done with the first map yet.
For the multiplayer file, I think my brother and I got everyone? Half through classic, half through the 10 min rounds of waiting.

-
[hide]How do you get the True Ending? Clear everything?[/hide]
! In the last area of the game you have light and dark fighting each other.
! You have to get to both Master Hand and Crazy hand twice each without overwhelmingly defining the balance for any side. Once both hands are defeated, they make a rift in the middle of the stage, and then you just have to made the battlefield neutral in order to use a bridge to get to the middle.
! Once you do that crack the hands opened, you take the middle path to fight both Dharkon and Galeem at the same time. I'm not sure if it's a thing that you have to keep both at around the same health, but I did just in case. For the record, for me the worth in pursuing it was the challenge to get there, not the actual ending which is pretty boring and inconsequential imo. -
Finally completed World of Light 100% as well. As someone who relied on cheese for many of the tougher spirit battles, I got absolutely destroyed by the Giga Mac spirit several times.
I also don't know if I'm able to complete the final round without dying, so that's one challenge that's gonna elude me forever. -
@Bond:

Funny you say that, because that's one of the fights I cheesed hard.
Did a back throw on him on the very edge of the walk-off lol -
it's been like four or five days now and I still can't connect to the server lol

Piranha Plant isn't going to be available until January. If you mean registering your game or getting your redemption code, you have until January 31st.

Did a back throw on him on the very edge of the walk-off lolI'm not super good at grabbing foes, so what I did was use Incineroar and spam his side B.
It didn't work very well, but in my frantic struggles, I unintentionally discovered that Cross Chop is actually able to launch Giga Mac when it connects, so I baited him towards the edge, and voila! -
Ten spirits to go: evolve x, fuse Mario kart link, the bike that Mario kart link desires, the thee calamities of Metroid queen, sukapon and baby Bowser, pink metal peach, that random anouncer guy from mii-something, fuse Mr resetti, and the mew challenge
-
And done. All current spirits, GET.
-
And done. All current spirits, GET.
Damn. I haven't even gotten half of them yet.
I consider it a success that I beat James McCloud today.
-
I played a LOT. Not too proud of it, but it had to be done, and I am happy that I did. I still have to fill up some of them, to have them all on hand, not just in the dex.
I still think that I have all the songs, meaning I havent checked. Also costume parts and I'm just short of doing 3 meteor smashes to clean the laat part of the wall that I care about.
But this smash is just beginning.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I went "dormamu i came to bargain" with Sukapon, the queen and the baby, once you zero in on them, the one that took the most tries was queen metroid, like 4.
-
Well, now I'm in the World of Darkness on Adventure Mode. And I'm strong enough where I'm able to start taking on Legend ranks (honestly, surprised how easy M. Bison went down).
-
My single player complaints:
! I think that World Of Light either needs to lose half of it's spirts, or move them into obviously non-critical paths. Specially at the begining, and at everybody's favorite Comunist's dimension. Maybe a few non hand-themed bosses as well. The pacing between the story beats is too slow, like from the start to the first fight to Galeem there are way too many battles, with just the 3 switches, the wall of light and the 3 bosses to sparce it, with the standout moments of the world tour and DK jungle trip to spice it up. The power plant was neat, the secret base was too simple, bowser's castle was just ok, rathalos island was uneventful, skyworld was super meh, and gourmet race was more a chore than a fun puzzle.
! Compare to world of dark, with the sacred world that was excelent, except for the chosen Hero of the triforce, Cloud. Dracula's castle was neat, except that the cannons and time resets weren't thematically correct. Marx's area went on for way too long. Also the overworld of dark was more visually interesting, with the lower left half with the ruined buildings and the right half with the clock.
! Then the final destination, too many spirits again, with the two battles who would have been impossible without the skill tree: Guille and Eggman.
! Maybe it was my own completionist personality fucking me over? I dunno.
! About classic, while the structure and theme of each path is a great steep forward, I don't know if it was the characters that I was picking, but I felt that the hands were showing up to over half of the cast at the final battle. Like why wouldn't peach face Giga Bowser? Why Roy who's theme was swords, doesn't get to face Ganon who also has swords? And while I didn't go through with Metaknight or Dedede, only Kirby has faced Marx.
! Dracula showing up by surprise is neat, for the non belmonts. My headcanon is now that Galleom is just a Nintendofied-Metal Gear, so I accept it as such. And Marth vs Rathalos keeping the theme of reptile extermination was good. Also Mewtwo into Master Hand, like Bowser into Giga Bowser was good but I'd haved liked something else.
! Makes me wish for Mega Mewtwo X, Necrozma, Guzlord, Rayquaza or something (Mew transforming around, and going at it as pokemon snap as a floating sphere, a little close to master core's last two forms without the fortress) as a pokemon boss. And Porky, of course. Also: Cloud Watch: Cloud showed up for two spirit battles, Master Blades (the sword form of master core) and for Zeke (guy with big sword and eyepatch from Xenoblade 2), they got a lot more milleage out of Midgar.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Next single player objective is to try and make sure I've seen all spirit battles, even if you get them all, there are a few that were obtained without battling them, like Pyra and the Wind Fish who seemed to be shop only, King Bob-omb who was fusion, Nihilego that is obtained in a chest, or even some of the challenge board, and those that I was able to obtain through the rewards at the end of classic.
Whenever you go to the board, around the top left part of the screen, if you already beaten that battle, there will be a small golde icon of complete there, the game not only seems to be priotitizing the weight of spirits you haven't yet collected, but also battles not yet fougth, as whenever I shuffled, it always presented me with at least one that I haven't beaten yet.
Pyra and the Wind Fish, who are 4 stars, beat me, so at least a little extra challenge lies here.
The other 3 single player objectives for next week:
- The last challenge, dunking 3 lvl9 cpus
- The spirits I had to sacrifice for the evolving spirits, the board hasn't presented me with Isaac or Rodin ever again, who I'm pretty sure got from WoL, so I don't have their base forms, the same with Marx, but of course the board doesn't show bossess. There is one other that I haven't identified, but most likelly is an evolving spirit, as I got back everything that I could have lost from fusions.
- Going through with everyone in classic. Not too exciting, Idunno how many I managed to do before, but I was over 20, but less than 40.
-
Would using the Joy-Cons be ill-advised for this one? I haven't picked up a Pro Controller yet and I don't want to invest in one if this one is easily playable without it.
-
I was playing with the joycons, as I didn't want to deal with wires of the GC
I tried the pro controller, it is so much more comfortable than the joycons. But it wasn't anything that I noticed while using the joycons. Is like that thing that happens when there is an annoying sound for so long that you stop noticing it, and then it stops.

Dude you're even more obsessive than me. I'm 100% okay with not re-obtaining every single un-enhanced version. And if the game is going to force me to fuse cores, then I probably won't lose much sleep over the required sacrifices. Do any of those actually exist though? Same with shop-only ones. That said if something does pop up on the board that lacks a check mark even though I know I already had it at one point, I'll do it again.
Would using the Joy-Cons be ill-advised for this one? I haven't picked up a Pro Controller yet and I don't want to invest in one if this one is easily playable without it.
Well this is obviously subjective but using Joy-Cons is ill-advised for almost any game, IMO. Questionable D-pad notwithstanding, the pro controller is just really solid and my controller of choice for almost every game. Including Smash, even though I could easily be using Gamecube controllers like I did for the past 3 entries.
-
I'm also transcribing the hard data of the spirits to a spreadsheet. Because Why Not.
I'm certain I'll think of something a little less hinged later to fill the sheet, like the data for each batte.
-
If I can get 100% on WoL, obtain all Spirits, complete Classic Mode with each character, and maybe finish all the challenges and music and mii outfits, that will probably be enough to satisfy my completionist itch.
-
The game also tracks the Century Smash completion (oh, it is no longer 100-man, more gender neutral)
-
Everyone going nuts about spirits and here I am still highly focused on 1v1 and competitive.
Idk where else to gush, but I'm so psyched about how good Palutena is in this game. The difference of using other characters versus using her is, for me, the difference between an even match and a three stock. I'm so happy that for the first time the character I'm maiming is actually viable.
-
<sees the="" data="" of="" all="" fzero="" primary="" spirits,="" they="" are="" speed="" +="">I don't know what I expected.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Is like, the competitive is evergreen, I'm ok with waiting a little to jump in and let them iron out some of the conectivity issues.
On that side, besides basic usability, my main wish is that the hazzard toggle is in the same button as the battlefield or omega options.</sees>
-
I'm so happy that for the first time the character I'm maiming is actually viable.
Uh, did you mean to type "maining"?
-
Nope, she's punishing Palutena. Palutena knows what she did.
-

The mode is so mind-numbingly boring and easy that there's no way I'm doing it with 70+ characters; that'd be a waste of several hours. I still have yet to do All-Star but I'm guessing I'll feel similarly. Classic at least offers some variety, and some rewards. Though the fights are still often lazy and the overuse of the Hands, which are insufferable with all their new attacks, is annoying.
On the subject of how much of a slog World of Light is… I feel like they could have very easily gotten more creative. I'm super disappointed that the goal of every fight is still to kill the opponent. With some incredibly minor extra factors on rare occasion, such as "don't let your partner die." They could have done so much more. I almost got excited the single time I saw one that said "survive until the time runs out" or something, but it turns out I killed the opponent within about 20 seconds and won instantly. What if they actually made a survival one, where the opponent is impossible to K.O. and you just have to not die? What about fun silly things like "be the first to land 20 hits on your opponent with Lip's Stick." Or "taunt 20 times before the time runs out" with opponents constantly harassing you. Or a game where your opponent can only be damaged by explosives. These are easy to come up with; just some damn variety.
And while there were some pretty cool thematic dungeons, they should have done more and taken the concept further. What about a whole WarioWare one where instead of individual fights you have to complete a series of micro-fights? Like the screen flashes and says "avoid the lasers!" while Falcos shoot you for 5 seconds, and then a new one happens. Survive enough rounds for a boss fight. But yeah as it stands, several areas feel super padded and monotonous. Fights are either pathetically easy or intentionally unfair... although once you have enough good spirits, nothing is that hard. I started NG+ on Hard to finish grinding the skill tree, and boy did I demolish every single fight that gave me trouble the first time despite the higher difficulty setting. The Boss with poison heal is a joke lol.
Conversely I feel like the spirit board offers nice one-off challenges that you can do at your leisure, and the difficulty is cranked up compared to WoL and the lack of a skill tree... but they still manage to make it irritating by only giving you one chance (unless you invest in Rematch items) and then that completely superfluous bullshit shield minigame at the end that wastes even more resources when you want to ensure the capture of a 4* you worked hard to beat.
-
-
I have this idea that the new all stars is closer to cruel smash (how many can you kill) than 100 smash. Not sure, I only checked it for the challenge.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I agree that some match objectives variety would have helped, I think that only Zeke (don't die) and Classic DK (don't let "Lady" die) and another one like that, but with Peach had different defeat conditions, besides "die" or "time out", at the begining I didn't care as I think that I've already done more spirit matches than event matches ever, but that variety might have enhanced it.
On the wario ware, I don't think the game can swap around characters or stages that fast, but as a few training facilities like that, a "training course" like event, with the "Falco" shooting and you dodging, a target that can only be hit with the specified aerial, and it's closer to the ground, I get that the effort for each break the targets would be out of the scope of the project, but something should take it's place then.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Went full insane and parsed all the spirits untill Sheriff everything that is not a fighter franchise left, turns out I'm missing copies of: Rodin, Isaac, Marx and Dracula, all evolving spirits. Knowing that all of them are in WoL's 2th round makes them way less desirables, only that 1293 in the spirit board compels me to get them.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
It seems like Richter is just a glorified palette swap, tldw; only difference is that Simon's holy water causes some explosives to detonate, while Richter doesn't.
-
It's less of a glorified palette swap than Daisy, who is pretty much the exact same character as Peach. Which to me makes it more gross that Alph got stuck as an alt when he is essentially as different from Olimar as Daisy from Peach.
-
The clone scale goes from Isabelle to Daisy? Now that I see the full list of derivative fighters, I agree that Alph should have made it.
Lucario (Sometimes I feel it is a Mewtwo clone, today is not one of those days)
Isabelle (2 copied specials, 1 amalgamated special, grabs)
Lucas (same specials, different enough, pretty different standars, except side smash that looks the same)
Luigi (Like parody mario)
Wolf (Similar specials, familiar but not alike smashes)
Ganondorf (Slower animations, same Specials as Falcon, took a few of Ike's sword moves)
Falco (Still Foxier)
Roy (The blade mechanic, the fire)
Young Link/Toon Link (placeholder position, I have no idea where to place them when base Link is now the one that changed, what is the baseline for them now??!?)
Pichu (Now it is good?)
Dr. Mario () Exactly as much tought he deserves
Ken (so does the legends say)
Dark Pit (Different side special, different smash power)
Dark Samus (EXTRA missile, different dodge, floats)
Chrom (Non firey Roy, with aether)
Lucina (Non Tipper Marth)
Richter (Holy water that doesn't cause explosions)
Daisy (Flowers instead of peaches)Snake/Mewtwo/Ridley (canonical clones)
-
Dark Samus is actually also exactly the same as Samus except for its attacks having more electricity elements while Samus has more fire.
Outside of that, I haven't heard any reported difference. The dodge looks different but supposedly lasts the same amount of time.
-
So, do you like Assist Trophies?
-
And it works with Rathalos too.
Isabelle, harbinger of doom.

The Onion revealed the harsh truth about Smash Bros. Ultimate.
https://www.theonion.com/review-super-smash-bros-ultimate-sunk-by-unforgivab-1830942802 -
Okay I found the codecs. No new ones.
I get that Colonel's Japanese voice is long dead but couldn't they just bring in Naomi (even if I hate her) and maybe Miller/Liquid?
-
I think it's more of an issue of licensing. The whole Konami vs Kojima beef is still a sore spot, so the idea of adding more content beyond Snake just being present is a trial.
I'm sure Kojima was down for Snake to be included, but there's definitely signs of uneasy situations. Namely the fact that Snake no longer has the 'Fox' logo.
-
That's probably it.
Pretty much in most video games when the question comes up of why x voice isn't around or why they don't just add y conversation, a lot of the times it's probably voice acting issues. Hiring talent, recording voicework, testing it, bugging it, post-producing it and fixing issues is a particularly expensive process.
Especially with games like this one where any one voice line means having to bring back not just the actor for the Japanese version, but also the one for the US, China, European languages, etc. -
I don't think that the fighters themselves speak in all languages, the pokemon and the announcer for sure, but I think that's it. Maybe it's just spanish (I play in english, who would say no to Xander Mobius)
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
BTW: The WoL bosses on hard, (except Rathalos) are pretty hard, mostly because they deal a shitton of damage, like Master Hand's slap does 40% by itself, and Galeem took like 20 tries. Considering that Dracula was the hardest in the normal run, I kinda fear that part.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
A minor news and a rummor:
This weekend's event is Fire Emblem themed, all Fire Emblem all the time (at least 3 on the spirit board all the time), I haven't seen the Ephraim battle yet, so that one at least I'll be looking forward to.
The Rumor:
Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta's game designer, and a bunch of others) shared a twitter poll yesterday with the clear words:
Smash:
- Dante
- Viewtiful Joe
- Ammy (Amateratsu)
- Wonder Red
Kamiya/Sega/Platinum/Clover/Capcom getting a character?
In order of want:
Dante: I had fun with DMC3, and I know that he has a ton of weapons, but he's not getting his A moves with the electric guitar that summons bats, he's getting that sword, and I'm ok with Link, Young Link, Toon Link, Marth, Girl Marth, Fire Marth, Girl Marth's Father, Buff Marth, Masked Kirby, Clarivident Little Mac, Mage Marth who can be Girl's Marth Mother or other Father, Half-Dragon Marth, and that one guy from Square.Wonder Red: I don't see how to implement the civilians into heroes into gear 3rd mechanic in smash, and that the result is Bayonetta's smashes but with the wonder's weapons, it seems OP and over the top, it would work, but compromises have to be made.
Joe: Witch Time, the stop watch, Shadow, in 1v1 time altering mechanics can have their places, but how do you do it in a free for all without feeling weird? Like an area around Joe only? I imagine a halfway point from Cap Falcon to MetaKnight with the time/movie powers
Ammy: Another Cuadruped? Main weapon a shield? Another Ink user? all the brush techniques (from weird ones like sun, moon, restoration and wall climb to kinda cliche ones like fire, wind, lighting, ice, water, bomb and sword, to neat ones like time mist, bloom/tree/vine, and that is not touching chibiteratsu)? Getting a cell shaded stage with restoration/divine intervention as the main mechanic? Sign me up! She does have the sword as a weapon and as a brush technique, but wasn't her main one, the reflector/shield is the first one, the last one, the one that is sun themed, the sword has equal billing with the beads. The slash technique is more prominent, as it is the first combat one that you get, and the only clearly offensive one until the bomb. But it doesn't matter.
