Random Fun Facts about Animals
-
-
Fun fact about giraffes: their necks are physically long enough to reach the ground, but they splay their legs anyway when drinking water to lower the gravitational potential energy that their blood has so the strength of their heart doesn't cause an aneurysm. Think about how blood rushes to your head when you hang upside-down. Now imagine that your neck was five times longer and that much more blood was rushing to your head, and faster. That is how the giraffe do.

Giraffes also have the strongest kick power.

A- Those are not female but mane-less males.
@wiki:Tsavo lions are a distinct variety of Masai lions (Panthera leo nubica) living around the Tsavo River in the Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Tsavo males are notable for their lack of mane and smooth pelt, their size, and that they actively participate in hunting.
B- The Tsavo Man-Eaters is actually a true story.
C- A movie was based on the events . Okay there's more than one, but only one really had big names like Val Kilmer and Micheal Douglass. That one is The Ghost and the Darkness

I watched that movie last year. I'm sure it was stylized but the thought of that actually being real was pretty disturbing.

@Kaido:

YEah there was some that was not accurate, such as the movie showing the lions to have manes, verifiable kill count, ect.Biggest inaccuracy is Michael Douglas's character, Charles Remington, which is entirely fictional.
But DAMN the Ghost and the Darkness was a good movie and I agree, knowing its based on a real account is disturbing.
Wikipedia has a section for the Historical accuracy (and its lack of) of the film. -
Because they have to use less energy from bouncing off the ground less times, a Kangaroo uses less energy for moving the faster it goes.

Looks like a species of jellyfish, right?
WRONG!
In fact, this isn't an animal, it's several. It's a siphonophore, a sort of colonial organism that consists of several smaller, specialized organisms.
Here's some of it's relatives, all living colonies.

This video is about this guy handling a black widow spider! He does not get bitten since spiders won't bite you if you don't scare them. Besides that, the bite that they do give you if you get bitten is more of a warning which is explained in the video. The point I'm trying to show is, spiders are our friends, not our enemies.Hell, they can work in harmony with you. As one time, I had a big spider live by my front door. He/she made a big web, but it got it in the way of me going outside, so had to get rid of it. The next day, the spider made a new web, but this time out of the way, so we could both share the space. Sadly, someone killed that spider for no reason later on :(
But yeah spiders are awesome. They also kill the bad pests like mosquitoes and flies. (Spiders are also one of my favorite animals, though I'm still a bit scared to handle the big ones, but I have no issue having small ones on my hands.)

In a temple in Bali, apes (forgot which race it was) are stealing tourists' "objects" in order to exchange it with food. It seems that it works (you get your glasses back –for instance-- if you give food) in 95% of the theft.
Also, it seems apes are smart enough to take good food and not bring back the stolen object if the food sucks. -
Ladybird beetles are badass cause this video says so.

Not a factoid but a nice biographical epitaph to Pan Pan, panda sex stud extraordinaire, and the history of conservation/breeding efforts of pandas in general. Very good read.

LOL People would be safer in the water! I find it interesting that in some years that info wasn't available. Its like they only took info on some animals every other year. Of course the biggest culprits get yearly, then we get wild rats, cats, and hamsters only now and then

Here you go, here are some fun facts about mosquitoes:
- Only female mosquitoes suck on blood
- Mossies live longer than most bugs (of course, if not being smashed by someone, haha)
- They can drink up to three times their weight in blood
- The man who drinks beer risks to be bitten more than the one who not
And at last, the fact that doesn't seem funny to me… Mosquito is the deadliest creature in the world (remember those accidents with Zika virus and other stuff). Here are some methods of protection from those bloodsuckers. Cheers :)
