The return of the shining white knight of the round gourmet table or whatever his alias was! Probably only to hype up either Soma or some dark chef. Anyone have any thoughts as to why the Blue has turned into an assortment of weirdly specific and strange challenges as opposed to the "standard" high level cooking competition it apparently used to be? Involvement of the dark chefs? Involvement of DarkSaiba and/or PapaSaiba? WGO simply turning out to be led by weirdos?
^
It was already said that the bookmaker wanted to do it differently this time. Hence those strange challenges i guess.
I also think Asahi somehow managed to use drugs in his foods to manipulate taste-bud and increase the taste( don't know whether it can be done in real world though).

That reminds me of the episode of Futurama when Bender was an absolutely horrible cook, no matter how much he practiced unil the competition at the very end, when his teacher gave him a secret ingredient for his food. The professor analyzed it and found that it was water
! and some spoonfuls of LSD
You suck, Soma.

I like that they measured power levels in $
https://readms.net/r/shokugeki_no_souma/288/5485/1
Now how did Soma pass without getting assessed in a $ value for his meal? I guess the foodgasm still trumps any rules in this manga :D
A Pimp Named Slickback Soma
Why can't I be you? Nyeeeeeeeh!
That backstory was…meh.
At least Bleach pretended that it was shallow.
Oh also. That backstory was so blah we were just randomly told Soma's mother died and it didn't register to me until just now. So there goes some theories lol.
This happened when this guy was 15 isn't he only a few years older than Soma? He should be old enough to remember her and be mopey from time to time.
He's not a mopey person though. That's like the crux of his character, he always looks forward.

Well not for long. But he's at least had a moment or two in regards to his dad. Still it just seemed kinda weird to have never been even hinted at then we get it through some newly introduced character in a throwaway statement while having a pity party. We were also only ever given flashbacks of Soma and his dad in such a way that it looked like the mom was out of the picture. But of the timeline is right she should have been around at some point. At least in the background. But I guess I should have figured she was dead when Soma and him had a moment and stared at the stars.
I know it's not super important but it's kinda annoying. Especially since Saiba made it sound like it was important to have the love of your life to cook for. But he was gone from home a lot apparently. But also I want to know how she died? Cause if she was terminal Saiba traveling around feels really crappy lol.
I'll give the backstory one thing. At least it didn't try and make you all sad "because orphan".

Saiba used to travel to get inspiration to cook for the mum!
taps temple
That she was dead was obvious from the way that Soma dances around the issue, and how saiba talks about love.
If they were divorced, or she was a deadbeat mom, then the talk about love wouldn't have been so straightforward.
What is.. troublesome, is that Saiba was a deadbeat dad untill Yukihira died.
And now, this dude's main motivation is envy. At least is something personal, instead of Azami's "let me change the world, somehow"

Nothing quite as tasty as the sweatness that is Diesel.
Good luck explaining that one to the hospital.
you think he would have dropped the "new enemies have to flex using the same damn method" chapters by now
Applying herbs right into the meat to enhance its taste via delicate chainsaw treatment has to be up there on the crazy scale, even in this manga lol
Next up: Liar's sweat enhances the flavor of the dish

I this the first time we've gotten a dish that you probably really can't replicate? Yeah most have high end ingredients or ridiculous complex prep, but this seems completely impossible to do safely lol.
Maybe slowly? Like you can't do the saw in just one motion, but with an electric carving knife like the one for whole turkey.
I don't care. This is Pre-Azami quality here. And no one here can tell me otherwise.
I keep confusing the former 1st deat for Aldini.
This manga has officially gone silly once more with those dark chefs, but I fully accept it haha
Go Megumi!
I'm just having fun reading how edgy those dark chefs are. I just wish we have more competitive light chefs available.
Skipping too much…But then again. This arc is stupid lol.
The speed of this pace is fucking hilarious.
Soma should just do slice of life arcs after the previous one. Way higher chance of surviving and ending on a better note.
How many times have we seen a dramatic reveal of Aldini’s mezzaluna? I’m glad they just skipped straight to the matches tbh

I don't think surviving is in its cards anymore lol
Also
Has no one ever seen a microplane before? And why is he grating the tenderloin???

Oh yeah. They didn't explain that did they? Lol.
Get it? It's because it's December in the real world!

I'm glad that today i learnt that baking a cake requires a sledgehammer chainsaw and a healthy dose of explosion.
This just gets dumber and dumber.
At least the part with them waiting with cones on their heads made me chuckle.
I don't know how to feel that one of the judges is an old nun.
Can someone verify for me if the Author and artist smoke weed before creating each chapters
Speaking of the artist, it's panels like this that make me think "I wonder if Tosh ever misses just drawing porn?"
Guys, you're killing me with these comments I'll only read the chapter on VIZ tomorrow, but I'm already expecting great things! This series just reached the point where it's so bad it becomes funny, huh?

Sometimes I forget this detail and I get curious for seeing some of his previous works.
what the hell, we have actual superpowers now?
I also thought we had like personality quirks or favorite tools before in this manga, not flat out abilities that allow for instant skill improvement. Weird stuff for sure.
This series has taken.a serious nosedive.
Asahi has a nen ability.
Tsukasa didn't even agree to the wager and the dude straight up steals his grater lmao
Yeah, I got nothing on chefs with sudden nen skills. It fits thematically with Soma's unlimited blade works, but that was a metaphore, built AFTER the encounters and incorporating the techniques gradually. As an active super power, unlike the Disrobing that seems to be just foodgasm weaponization, this one activelly goes against cooking.
I dunno, bring a patethic chef like me, and have him absorb my bechamel sauce techniqe, and then make him serve the judges pasta with paper maché glue on top.
I like to think he'll absorb Bender from Futurama's secret skill and poison everyone while making them think the food taste great (by way of drugs).
Like seriously, what were the authors thinking?!
