Toriko at least had its two great final chapter, the weeding and the space gun touched upon everything that was good about the series.

Assclass wasn't perfect but it was the series with the least mistakes

Bleach got screwed by Kubo trying to screw over the editorial department

Naruto, besides the post war orgy caused marriages, was fine, a little less good for the need of launching Boruto instead of ending, but as an ending it was OK.

I am sad that I can't remember Beelzebub ending. There was something about human generals and the demon world and furukishi and demon powered tissues and a wall of demon seals.. But nothing concrete…

Sorry, Naruto's ending was… fine? Not on my book. Everything about the war and after was utter crap that didn't make any sense anymore. But to each his own. Toriko may have had one or 2 good final chapters, but for a long time before those, the series degenerated to such a sorry point that it wasn't even funny anymore. Kind of like what's happened to Soma as of late. AssassClass was as close to a perfect shonen Jump series as I remember. Short, sweet, to the point. Did not deviate a bit from its original concept, kept faithful to its themes and goals... Great. I compare it to Neverland and Dr. Stone now, but still hold it in a higher regard than the latter 2.

Caught up after a 100~ chapter hiatus.

Not sure how I felt about the main action arc. On one hand, we got a lot of cool and funny moments (I fucking lost my mind at Elizabeth's origins). On the other hand, I think it ran into the same pacing problems Bleach's final arc did in that it tried to give every character a moment, which just ended up slowing things to a crawl. Also I HATED Enshou. One of my least favorite manga villains in a while, although him being so bad just made it even sweeter when Takasugi finally cut him up.

I love this current arc though. Nearly every major joke lands, the story is more interesting, good closure for a lot of characters. Just a great, classic Gintama arc. I'm not sure how Sorachi's going to wrap this up in 3 chapters, but I can't wait.

So, it's two chapters to go? It is kind of short. It's technically 3 chapters as the last one is very likelly going to be extra lenght.

We needed this Madao chapter, and the Shinsengumi clousure, besides the Shojo resolution, Takasugi's final fight and the yorozuya reunion, I'd like to see a conclusion to Tama's and Sadaharu's plots at the very least.

So Sorachi thought he could end this arc till August and that's what he told Jump so they made arrangements for that but as the arc went on he realized he needed more chapters to properly end Gintama which is why rest of it will continue in Giga.

Looks like Sorachi wanted to end the series sooner.

Ahahahah I don't even read Gintama but that grandpa stubbornly not wanting to die analogy is perhaps one of the greatest explanations I've ever seen written anywhere. It's beautiful. So he's moving to a carehome now, called Jump GIGA, and is finally leaving the house. But those pesky kids that don't come visit him aren't gonna get any inheriance! Ahh such a troll, I love it.

Just started rereading this series I never really got super far into it but I saw a video on top 10 anime arcs, and they had the shogun assassination arc pretty high up there, so I decided I'd read the whole thing this time

but all I want to know is, is it really that good, like one of the best shonen arcs?

That arc? I'd say no, but this is gintama, it has to compete with the four devas arc, and the fake mariage arc, among others.

The thing is that gintama is half comedy half drama, the half drama doesn't start to shine until later, and the comedy is just ok, early on, but latter, once all characters are set up and ready, then it takes another level.

You also need an apreciation for the finer parts of humor (poop jokes, of course). Or some context for the way too japanesse jokes.

Funnily enogh, the Shogun arc is what got me to start too (well, that and a few random YouTube clips of some funny moments). I think it’s that good, but it’s not worth reading the whole series just for that one arc, since it’s very late into the series, builds on your investment in the characters, and is pretty short. Kind like how I wouldn’t recommend One Piece just for Marineford.

Still, if you’re liking what you’re reading, keep going.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm actually really enjoying the series and I'm only on chapter 66, I've read over 150 before but that was a long time ago and I forgot most of it lol

but if it only gets better with time than that should be good because I'm already enjoying it immensely

only thing I don't like are the pun jokes but that's just cause I don't understand them due to only speaking english

and one other thing…. what's with this author and hemorrhoids.... he talks about them a lot poor guy must be plagued lol

Yup, it was announced that when GIGA was resuming, it would have 3 issues, all starring Gintama on the cover, and that they would be the last chapters of the series.

So apparently, volume 77 is still going to be the last one. We will have the last chapters available on the app, but the volume was delayed from March to June and is the last one. I really hope this is it. It was funny the first time, but this series just can't keep going on indefinitely and keep changing magazines/format/whatever. I hope hiwamatanoboru keep managing to translate the last few chapters. Even if we have to wait for the volume to come out to see the final chapters, I hope they end up being translated. I've waited a long time for this.

It seems like this gintama app will be the same that Manga+ is, but just for gintama. Weird.

Except they actually have a purchase function for every chapter of the series that has been published in volume format, instead of only publishing the latest chapters. Not to mention the coloured version. And spin offs, novel, anime… It's a full on, through and through, Gintama app.

This series takes so damn long to read!!! I keep giving up on it and returning a month later or so, I'm on chapter 330, it's one of the strangest series I've ever read, some arcs are fantastic and super fun to read, while others drag on and feel like a punishment to read, I usually like to read the manga and then watch the anime but I'm seriously thinking of just watching the anime instead, there's just so much text

I love everything about Takasugi and Kamui…. And I seriously can't wait to see what they do now that they've teamed up!!!

Once the series got in the 500's shit really took off, like damn it was one intense arc after another, but the end kind of…... went on a bit to long, I mean, I still enjoyed it, but they should probs wrap it up pretty soon

Go to the same hell where the old series of jump get forgotten, or have to keep working forever, like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Saint Seiya, Kochikame.. etc.

Being serious, the pace of the final episodes diminished the impact that the ending could have. But still, the best ending that Gintama could have.

Yeah, the constant fake out endings kind of diminished the impact. Especially because it seemed to just keep dragging the same story with Utsuro after his defeat which already took long enough as it was. BUT this chapter by itself was everything one could have hoped for this series. So fitting, so good. It was nice knowing you, Gintama, you'll be forever in the history of Jump and manga in general. Thanks for these amazing 6 years of reading so much stupidity.
