UGH I am in Hufflepuff. Never playing this horseshit again.
And this is why Hufflepuff is trailing in house points.
I think it would be better accepted if it just had a more badass name.

Kinda surprised so many people are Hufflepuff on here. It seems pretty balanced on the site. Anyone want to go through what answers we all gave for the test?
As a Hufflepuff I'm offended by the fact that inbetween chapter scenes all have a background that is red, the color of GRYFFINDOR. It reeks of favoritism. I say to hell with them. To hell with "THE MAN". The proletariat will rise!
I like how both the slytherin and hufflepuff welcome letters both start out with " welcome to X house! Now I know what you're thinking…"

Lot of quiet geeks on here.

Well yeah, statistically its naturally going to balance out when you have 1.5 million people. Suddenly it takes a difference of thousands to change a %. (9 out 10 is 90%, 49 out of 50 is 98%, 99 out of 100 is 99%, but 199 out of 200 is still only 99%)
Ravenclaw is about 20,000 members behind all the other houses. And the biggest extremes, Ravenclaw has 358,212 and Gryfindor has 389,695 members. That's 31,000 difference! Not close or balanced at all.
It just looks balanced because the scale is so high. (And also makes it crazy that Ravenclaw is in second in house points. part of their nature! Griffindors haven't had a chance to stop a random monster to get an end-year bonus yet.)
This forum is naturally going to get a lot of overlap because a lot of us have similar personalities in the first place to seek out a OP board, and stick around to hang out with these sorts of people, and then go to a HP subthread.

"Well, there's what Rowling had in her mind, and then there's what she actually showed as the norm in the books that fit Harry's perspective and narrative, that the fans have totally structured around…"

Yeah. That's about what I figured though I still find it strange so many people would get the same house out of questions that don't seem to talk about personalities all that much. It mostly just seemed like 'Do you want to go here?' 'What are you afraid of?'
I blame the Brown Owl.

I'm also curious how many people made multiple accounts to get in the house they wanted.

Subtleties. And pictures. It'd be boring if it was really obvious "well this is clearly for this group".
I'm pretty sure its the first question or two that weights it real heavily and after that its nuance or not important…. unless you give really conflicting answers, then it keeps asking hard things.
I REALLY can't figure out what "left or right" would do. "Dawn or dusk" sure, "heads or tails" (with picture!) sure... but... left or right?
@Nia:
I got myself the cutest owl available, this wand (Length:13 1/4 in; Wood:Pine; Core:Unicorn; Flexibility:Hard), and ended up in Gryffindor. Daaamn, I wanted to be in Ravenclaw.
Well, your wand seems to fit you.
"Pine wands enjoy being used creatively, and unlike some others, will adapt unprotestingly to new methods and spells."

True. I guess they did do a really good job on the questions in that regard that it seems accurate to many on this forum, and it probably has certain questions count more than others.
I don't remember a 'heads or tails' question. With the "left or right" question, I went the HxH route on it. I usually go naturally left, so if directly asked, I'll decide to go right.
I didn't get any of those questions. I got one about the moon or stars (stars) and what smell attracts me (firewood). Also what I want to be most (trusted) and what I fear most (isolationism).

So I assume the most common similarity is answering questions about being most or most feared having to deal with social issues.

Since apparently some of the hat questions can also end up on the wand questions, it's quite likely. Also like you can buy a high quality cauldron, but not until after you've gotten the cheap one and everything else on your list.
Am I the only curious as to why the points are going down at the moment for some of the houses?

Ravenclaw having the only Prefect that actually talks about each of the other Houses is a nice touch.
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that every house has this long drawn out message explaining why they're cool and why you shouldn't be upset, except for Gryffindor's which basically says "We're awesome" and is incredibly brief
Is anyone surprised that Ubiq is a Ravenclaw?
Anyone at all?

Built in book bias, mostly. We spent 7 books hanging out with a bunch of Griffindors and only a handful of others, so by default most people are going to like them and have thoughts about Slythirin being the "bad" ones.

Well, the Gryffindor Prefect is Percy Weasley so that's not really a surprise.
ha ha you guys got PERCY

While in high school, I was in Scholar's Bowl. This probably surprises nobody, but it's true. Anyway, one of my teammates had a habit during practice of just answering "blueberry muffins" to any bonus question that her team didn't know. Her reasoning was twofold; one, that it couldn't hurt since you wouldn't lose points for saying that on a bonus question and two, because you have to say something when attention is focused on you. Just randomly throwing something out there and possibly making somebody laugh is better than just sitting there quietly and waiting for time to expire or outright admit that you don't know what the hell you are doing.
What I'm trying to say here is that "Hufflepuff" is the Sorting Hat's "blueberry muffins."

I started the game yesterday night and quickly made my way through chapter 1. Hadnt any chance to play since then. I
m just a little bit confused. From the info on the Pottermore site, it seems like you`re basically playing through the book chapters, with stuff to click on and new information to find. But reading this thread, it sounds more like a massive Rpg, where you build your own character, have your own adventures and can interact with the other players. Weird.

In the beginning you're just playing through the chapters and unlocking interesting bits of info and thoughts from Rowling, but once you get to Diagon Alley, get your wand, then get to Hogwarts and get sorted, then you can start doing more RPG-like stuff such as practicing spells and potions, and inviting your friends and dueling them, etc.
It's a little like a facebook game, only all done first-person. And way more detailed than a facebook game.
The questions are a bit interesting. When I was selecting stuff I choose left a couple different times. I went towards the ocean, the smell of the ocean lured me, and I chose a river instead of the forest. Confined spaced bothered me. Power was my main choice.
I wonder how they chose certain questions because I never got the Black and White one or the Dusk and Dawn.
I tried it again, just to see what I would get answering honestly, and I got Ravenclaw this time. But I did get a lot of situation questions, and picked the "smart" option rather than the ones that were either cheating, blindly rushing in, or doing nothing and hoping for the best. My new username is SickleBlade2688
Still have no idea what the Right or Left question means. Maybe since left means sinister that's a Slytherin choice?
My best guess is left/right is a weightless question for when the hat has already 100% decided what you are by question six, and doesn't want to throw it off by asking something loaded after.
Either that or there's something to "taking the second choice, rather than the first one presented."
@RobbyBevard:

I honestly have no idea. My friend was taking the test last night, and she was given the "White or Black?" question. We were stuck for a while because we couldn't figure out if it was asking her what color she preferred, or what side she'd choose in a chess game (since it was pictured with a white and black king chess piece).
I picked white because of the chess advantage.
I got placed into Gryffindor.
I wonder what the percentage is of people who sign up for this just to get as far as the Sorting hat minigame, then just stop. Like me.
I'll be honest, I currently have no real inclination to continue. I wanted to see what wand I'd get and what house I'd be placed in. Although I haven't looked around fully, so I may yet see something that catches my interest.
I got into the Beta last fall. Great site but they need to find a better compromise between accommodating children and having viable outlets for chatting. Without a more robust community, people leave the game in droves after getting sorted.
Anyway, I'm ScaleFang206, Rowan wand with Dragon core, and Slytherin.
I tried the potion making…I have no idea how you're supposed to finish it. I always tun out of time cause I can't figure out if I need to stop stirring or continue to a particular number. Spell casting is kinda fun.
But yeah. I mostly just wanted to see what I would be sorted into and what my wand would be.

One year 3 opens up there will be patronus' to get, but until then, that's pretty much the full ammount of interest for most people.
My flash player hates the site, so I couldn't do the games even if I wanted to.
Yeah. I got to about 100 points, and there's not really any type of minigame that's enjoyable enough for me to keep getting on it. As for exploration, it is technically encouraged to read the book while you're exploring it.
