The fact that it was the only goalless draw of the tournament says it all really.
Football: 2018 World Cup
-
-
Reminds me of this.
-
If it weren't for the video referee there were far more draws. We already beat the former world cups in terms of penalties.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'm on mobile, so kind of limited atm, but if your teamalready made it through the group phase why risk further yellow cards and injuries. That would be stupid imo.
-
unbelievable how are both matches still on zeros.
-
That looks VERY BAD for my country…
-
If they can't manage one effing goal against South Korea they don't deserve to advance.
But damn … What is up with Mexico?
-
lol, Germany is out. It's probably better like that. They've been playing very badly in the last months
-
If they can't manage one effing goal against South Korea they don't deserve to advance.
Well, at least Löw is guranteed to remain Coach, the DFB confirmed.
-
I can't believe Germany's about to go out…could they possibly have another late winner in them?
EDIT: pretty sure that goal should've stood...will they overturn?
EDIT2: yep, they did. And now germany will need the most improbable comeback ever to not get booted at the group stage. wow
-
Eventually luck runs always out…
-
@Big:

Maybe it's time to rethink that decision …
What a joke.
-
Haha Yes South Korea!!!!!!
-
Well, we didn't deserve it this time.
-
2-0 . Hotdamn Germany you f'd up
-
Zat's a gud one!
-
group f was a joy of fire and blood.
-
I can't even be angry … This is just funny and sad at the same time.
Congratulations to South Korea.
-
Yeah, Löw should be replaced. :getlost:
-
The curse of the tourney winner strikes again~
-
I think I damn near broke my voice box screaming in delight when that second goal went in.
The drama of this World Cup has been truly delicious. -
The team just didn't play as they should this whole tournament, so we got what we deserved.
Fun fact, all 4 of the last world cup winners lost in the group phase in the tournament after. xD
-

makes sense, you gotta get rid off the biggest threat as soon as possible.
-
Germany really just sucks at advancing in Russia
-
@Mr:

This time they came till Kazan after all.
@Big:
Yeah, Löw should be replaced. :getlost:
As Grindel (Chief of the German Football Association) has no balls, Löw will stay another 4 years at least).

Brazil made it in 2006 to the finals.
Chrior was first^^ -
Wow, what in the world was that!? i didn't even bother watching the match because I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Germany would get though. This is fabulous
In all 21st century world cups, Brazil in 2006 was the only reigning champion to get to the kockout stage. Funny that.

This post is deleted!

Totally deserved that this german team didn´t advance, we just played like shit the last 5-6 games.
It´s hard to grasp that the WC is already over and that the excitement for the whole second half of the tournament will be gone for me, but i hope Belgium or Croatia might get it right this time and advance to the final stages…also Senegal and Japan i wanna see go far :)
Congratz to Sweden and Mexico for advancing, but poor Mexico will once again face Brazil and most likely once again not advance to the quarter finals, but my bets have been really bad this year, so there is at least a little hope ;) -
That one humiliating penalty though
-
Mmh so many juicy tears from "Schland" fans that were shed today.. absolutely delicious. Bye bye, bunch of loosers. Now everyone will get rid off their car flags and return to looking down on "drunk Bundesliga fans", bunch of hypocrites.
On a less contemptuous note: Go Sverige! And Belgium-England has the potential of actually being an interesting game, something that I have yet to come across in this world cup.
-
And Belgium-England has the potential of actually being an interesting game
I don't have too high hopes for this match , both teams would rather get second place than first. Belgium already confirmed it will let a lot of benchsitters now play against England.
-
But the Belgium keeper said that because there are lots of premier league players on both teams,
there will be some bragging rights to play for when the next season starts.
His full quote implied that both teams will be fired up to get a march on their club rivals. That's what I'm hoping for too.

Let's just hope it's more exciting than the games currently being played. Man, this World Cup is just one big disappointment so far. My hope remains that, if nothing else, we will at least get a surprise winner.
-
Bummer. Senegal didn't made it.
-
Nippon banzai!! A shame that the match was a crap in the last 20 minutes though…
-
Not a fan of who has less yellow cards advances thing, would rather have japan and senegal play their game again or something.
-
CONCACAF being shit again.
-

The only match that was any good so far was Spain-Portugal. Hopefully now that groups are almost over we will get some better matches
-
Looking at the teams, apparently no one wants to target a win and get into a path to face off with Brazil later on
-
Belgium won , def earned it because England didn't really even try
That being said: besides a few chances by Belgium , this match was a drag to look at.
-
This is bs, england should be kicked out and senegal should advance in their place. Don't want to play, go home.
-
I'd say Russia and Mexico are clearly gone. as for the rest I know Croatia and Belgium are playing like champion-material but still will wait for more surprises
-
Surprised people think England didn't play to win, I feel both sides tried despite fielding a B team, Belgium were just the better team and converted their chance. I also think it's nuts to say the matches so far in this world cup have been bad, this ha been the most entertaining world cup I've ever watched. I think you must be forgetting the dogshit football that was South Africa 2010.
-
Totally agree with BlackLeg. I know that Spain v Portugal was way too awesome to start off and that all matches since have been worse, but it's been an incredibly entertaining tournament. It has had GREAT goals, surprise results, good comebacks from teams like Brazil and Argentina which started badly… I have been really enjoying it, definitely much better than the last 2 tournaments I watched! Can't remember about 2006, but Portugal was 4th placed in that one, so portuguese people remember it fondly. This 3rd match round has been a bit boring though, since many teams already knew they were qualified from the get go, or that a draw would be enough. It's the usual thing. My major complaint has been the referees. They have sucked in almost every single match to an unprecedented level and the VAR hasn't helped as much as it should. It's shocking, and FIFA itself admitted that the penalty for Iran against Portugal that screwed our 1st place in the group was the worst mistake so far.
-
Chrior I know that you're likely going to be mad at me for pointing this out but like I said Ronaldo was lucky IMHO to not get a Red Card against Iran.
-

Yeah, Ronaldo got saved by the power of his name. Anyother player would've been kicked out.

Completely agreed!
I've been legitimately surprised by how fun this tournament's been so far. -
I do feel bad for Senegal going out in such peculiar circumstances but at the same time, Japan got their award for playing fair I guess. It's a first in World Cup history that a team advances based on that criteria (iirc) and it's fine.
Time for some predictions though:
France v Argentina
Uruguay v Portugal
Spain v Russia
Croatia v Denmark
Belgium v Japan
Brazil v Mexico
Sweden v Switzerland
England v Colombia -
Got to chime in…
France v Argentina; neither France nor Arg did play very well in the group stage. But Arg already had their win, while only relying on their mentality. Therefore Arg advances.
Uruguay v Portugal
Spain v Russia
Croatia v Denmark
Belgium v Japan
Brazil v Mexico; unfortunatley
Sweden v Switzerland
England v Colombia; only if James can play… -
France v. Argentina
Portugal v. Uruguay
Spain v. Russia
Croatia v. Denmark
Belgium v. Japan
Brazil v. Mexico
Sweden v. Switzerland
England v. Colombia -

It was a matter of interpretation. Either the referee decided it was a deliberate physical attack to the other player and gave him a red card or it was an incidental event and no card should be given. I totally accept that he should have seen a red card, but the yellow was just stupid. Again, bad referee. Everyone has been victim of it during the tournament.
