Bad writing, not because Katakuri lost. Of course luffy would win as he is the MC of a shonen, but how he lost. Overall boring, uncreative, nothing new. Not a victory worthy of one that took as long as it did, nor for that of a top yonko commander. And the fact that luffy took such a beating this fight(also the Arc as a whole) and still be able to walk away. That just ruins it for the rest of the series. About everyone complaining about why they aren't sensing Sanji, and him cloaking his presence or whatever.
Was CoO ever shown to specifically find a person on an island? Sure, they could normally feel extreme emotions going on like Aisa and Coby, but could they just detect the exact locations of powerful people? Other than Enel of course who probably still has the most powerful CoO of all time due to him enhancing it with his devil fruit power.

The series would be quite annoying if it became like "they can sense our presence", because then, of course, Oda would also introduce a way for people to train themselves to appear normal in public. Just urgh. Sanji being hidden in an alley works perfectly fine for me. All of the attention is on the mirror.

She doesn't have to erase all memories of herself but she could possibly erase and alter any moment when he cared about her.

Ever since Luffy broke the mirror to the Sunny, Katakuri's fate was sealed. If it were a draw, Pekoms would have had to drag Luffy out of the hole. Both fighters got a last stare off, but Katakuri lost and it is okay. Thwre ia no number saying: you cannot beat people past this number. Katakuri's whole schtick, like Cracker is avoidong direct hits. Even then Katakuri took G4 hits way better than Doffy.
Katakuri injury is just a way for the fight not to last days. Both abdomen injuries are a timer, not a deciding factor in the fight.
I mentioned a couple weeks back that Brulee's house might act as a permanent portal. The house is in WCI like Nazoms was.

It’s been established that 10 mins is all luffy needs to recover enough stamina to at least move and use haki again. That’s why it goes back to them at 12:47. Luffy couldn’t continue and neither could Katakuri. They spoke and Katakuris endurance finally gave way. It was a draw folks.
Actually when Luffy got out if that hole, Katakuri was still on the floor.

Why would she do that to someone she CLEARLY cares about, too bitter for Oda to do for an arc ending moment that doesn't involve someone/something dying.

Luffy may be in his last legs, but he's the only one of the two who can use them to leave the battlefield. He's ended more obviously victorious fights in similar or worse condition (Lucci, Moria, Doflamingo) and no one's argued about it, so I don't see why this one's any different.
It may have been by the slimmest of margins, but this was an unambiguous win for Luffy.

This actually reminds me of the Jackie Chun vs Goku fight in Dragon Ball. The two got each other in one last mutual hit, knocked themselves out, and neither got up before the ten count ended. From there the victor was decided by whoever got up first and could declare themselves the winner. Goku tried and failed. Jackie Chun succeeded. Jackie Chun was the winner.
Not a tournament scenario, but this situation isn't otherwise that far removed from it.
That was a nice finale for the end. A very respectful ending on both ends…. Katakuri finally falling like a tower. Luffy showing his respects for putting his extra hat upon Katakuri's face, or rather his mouth.
Oda didn't add any kind of "continue fighting although struggling to stand straight"-fight scenes which you see every so often in those kinds of mangas. I personally think that was a good execution decision.
I presume Katakuri would have had more endurance if he had encountered more enemies like Luffy previously. Eventually giving the battle a different outcome. Thus in my humble opinion a kind of reasonable ending.
Lastly, going by the final line one could interpret that he is looking forward fighting Luffy again.
Now on to waiting for next week... (I wonder he will finally have a bounty increase in case the outcome of the fight gets into the Newspapers...)

One of my favorite chapters of the New World, loved both of them passing out at the same time and katakuri asking him one last time if even after all of this he was willing to comeback and I think he knew, not on premonition but inside his heart that the end result would be luffy and thhats why he passed out onhis back instead of trying to go a bit farther IMO
This had a bit of a parallel go sting surrenders to fairy tail but done 100x better

Ali was able to take those hits round after round and ware down Foreman enough to beat him in what was thought to be an unwindable match up. Luffy taking more hits than someone like Katakuri is expected. Luffy being able to withstand more hits than someone like Katakuri is also pretty logical.
I see Katakuri as man at the top of his game who not only has a ridiculously versatile fruit that would reduce the amount of damage he would take but also has a level of CoO that reduces that little damage to basically nothing. He's probably been that way for a long time. He has probably battled against other Commanders and even Admirals but those were probably inconclusive(though never outright loses) and he did mention that no one has ever dodged his attacks like Luffy has. He's probably been sitting pretty for a long time and now the future Pirate King comes in who wasn't quite as strong, or as fast but had more stamina, drive and HP to compensate.
The win by Luffy was well deserved and now his experience points probably raised him to the mid 80's by now.

Snakeman was all about maneuverability and elasticity. It would take cheetah-like reflexes to turn those arms at a 90 degree at that speed movement, but all you see is a speed boost?

Certainly it didn't helped Luffy to hone his Observation Haki Skills.
I would have liked to actually seen Katakuri running out of haki mana as well in this fight… Of course no one will run out of stamina, as that is infinite in the series, but when they have made a point out of haki needs to recharge, then I'd like to see that happen for characters that are using it to a high extent, like Katakuri obviously is doing with his CoO.

The way this fight ended didn't really make sense to me. I guess you could say Luffy has more endurance than Katakuri, but overall it felt more like "Luffy took more beating than he managed to deliver, but he still won because he's the protagonist".
Meh. But at least, now we can move on: I'm really looking forward to the wrap-up!

Still don't understand the focus/complaint about BMP observation haki skills, when Sanji is smoking right by their side.
I do think the complaints of Luffy having plot armor are rather silly; he's taken much worse abuse over the span of the series. However, I think the fight would've been greatly improved if Luffy had used some more creative ways to take on Katakuri's attacks than just dodging/tanking them - like eating the mochi, for example, or using the twists and turns of the Mirro-World to his advantage. Luffy outlasting Katakuri did make sense, but it felt a lot like a foregone conclusion and the journey to get there just didn't feel all that interesting. Katakuri displayed a ton of creativity in his attacks, but Luffy's methods of dealing with that weren't so much.
I think Oda is definitely improving when it comes to drawing longer battles, it's certainly a lot better than what the Cracker fight ended up being and while the Gear Fourth recharge moment was still a bit clunky it thankfully wasn't given a ton of focus. Here's hoping Oda continues on an upward swing here.

I don't think OP needs longer battles, as oda himself said not long ago, there are too many characters and things going on for him to draw a battle more then 1 chapter. I like the battle with cracker because it was short enough not to get boring, luffy going allk out with gear 4 since the start, new power up of luffy not working and having to use another strategy, unlike now when he needed like 7-8 chapters just to go in gear 4, and he was on offense most of the time, unlike now when 80% of the fight he was just dodging Attacks. Bonus, that battle was also funny with luffy eating his armors, and cracker sure seems more fun then katakuri, it was also team work fight with nami. That is what oda needs to do more, cracker, not katakuri type of battles.

People had so many questions about CoO and was thought to be the weaker of the two, then we have had this opportunity to showcase it.

Or, you know, people just really liked to see Luffy develop and have a great physical fight against the top guy below one of the Emperors. And the ending with each of them showing respect for the other was very sweet as well. Sometimes, you don't like what other people like, it's fine. But you don't need to hate anyone over it. It wasn't the most significant moment in the series, but it was one of the best fights, and most people agree with it.

Found this on reddit and though I dont believe its a reference the explanation of it makes enough sense, katakuri was on the offensive for much of itand was clearly getting more tired as it went on
I realized that the Katakuri vs Luffy fight is much like the famous boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle. In that match Muhammad Ali who is analogous to Luffy, was the severe underdog in the fight with many people having George Foreman at a 6:1 or higher odds of winning. George Foreman was also bigger and almost objectively stronger than Ali (sound familiar?) and was undefeated in a 40 win run and had recently taken down the likes of Ken Norton and Joe Frazier, the former champion of boxing. Both boxers were the only people to beat Ali and both of them lost to Foreman extremely quickly.
During the fight Ali used a now famous techique called "rope-a-dope" where essentially Ali let himself get pummelled nonstop for a bunch of rounds but took them well and made many of the hits against him less effective against the powerful Foreman. He would at times get in hits when Foreman got distracted and too aggressive (also sound familiar?!?!). Eventually Foreman got so tired out from pulling punches all day that he eventually was open to a knockout. Ali put in one good direct jab after not really doing much damage to Foreman the whole rest of the fight, and Foreman was down and out.
