Considering Zoro also has a fire attack and Franky also uses light and fire attacks, not to mention Nami's affinity with wind or the fact that Nature is veeeery associated with Earth more than animals….This Element Association is bogus.

Every mink know the link betwen Zou and Wano.
Big Mom wants the One pice and know about the Red poneglyphs and has one.

Well it also takes elements of their personalities and quirks into account, so there's that. The attacks just help fill in certain blanks, like with Brook.

Their personalities aren't too simple to describe as an element.

Am I the only one who thinks/hopes that the other calamities aren’t named King and Queen?

Am I the only one who thinks/hopes that the other calamities aren’t named King and Queen?
Why shouldn't they be? We've already got Jack. Drake is a 10. Doflamingo's a Joker and his elite officers are the four card suits. All that's missing is King and Queen. And maybe an Ace, but perhaps that's Kaido lol.
-
Am I the only one who thinks/hopes that the other calamities aren’t named King and Queen?
Perhaps its just their code name similar to Doffy being the Joker. Queen Bee Zoan with the likes of Harley Quinn as the Queen and The Lion King, Simba/ Scar reference for the King calamity. Lole.

I can't see who would pick Bleach. I'm not talking about quality. I'm just not sure who it fits.
Pudding bruh, Pudding.

Isn't it even more obviously Perona? Ghost girl, plus she calls her projections negative HOLLOWS?

Since Jack can also be for Blackjack, maybe the other Calamities might also card game names instead of simply being the face card. Which is a wee bit lame.

What with, for example, Kings in the Corner being another card game, I doubt it, since that would be too much overlap with named cards. Plus even some of the same games are known by different names depending on where you're from. What would have been more fun to start with would be just to name them after various games like Go or Mahjongg and that kind of thing.

Can current OP Universe (including the dead ones but only characters with actual combat feats) take on super saiyan Goku as in himself in Namek arc?
-
Hard to know.
The fact OP characters don't die would suggest Goku would eventually tire out, but from DBS we know he can regain his full stamina in 30 seconds if he keeps fighting - apparently a highly efficient way of resting. I think this fight would extend into infinite.
-

Absolutely not. Even before Namek, Goku repelled and shot back a blast from Vegeta that would have blown up the entire planet Earth, and as far as we can tell, no feat in OP even comes close to being capable of same. Not even a fraction of that level of power. So no. No, no, no, no, no.
-
At best, I can see the top fighters of Ond Piecr reaching Goku's level at the end of Dragon Ball. Not anywhere in Z.

I could see certain characters, given certain powerups (shadow-infusion to become Nightmare versions of themselves, for instance), being able to compete with the likes of, say, Nappa, in the very early part of DBZ, but nothing like Vegeta who was more than 3 times stronger than Nappa.

It's funny to think about how the end of series Straw Hats versus Nappa might actually be a near-exact reenactment of the Z Fighters minus Goku fighting Nappa lol. And I guess Nightmare Pirate King Luffy is Goku, maybe.

I still think he'd be inferior to base-level Goku at that point (not using Kaio-Ken yet but still OVER 9000!)
But he'd probably still give Nappa a run for his money (roughly 4500-5000 power levels). -

I almost missed this. I'm legitimately tempted to make this quote become my sig.

Well, the reason why everyone in DBZ is so strong is because of Ki, right? And Haki is more or less based on the same principles of Ki.

Ya, without ki they're susceptible to pretty much what everyone else is. Like a laser from a ring that took out goku in the return of f movie.
Ki allows for some weird things tho. Flight, telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, energy projection etc. Shielding and energy sensing are about the connections.
Haki= manifested willpower
Ki=spiritual power

Well Oda already gave us a glimpse of some kind of comparable measure to DBZ's power levels, in Douriki (although like DBZ, that went out the window not long after the concept was introduced). I kind of wish it had lingered so we could get a better idea of relative strengths.
-

I have to disagree. Power levels generally tend to make things strictly formula in how who can beat who and it's always fun to see a seemingly weaker character trump a stronger one like Mr. 3 against Magellan or Nami with Zeus.
-
To this day, I still wish Usopp fought Jabra instead of Sanji at Enies Lobby. It would been a lot more interesting to see such underdog take on the most powerful arc antagonist henchmen that doesn't have hax powers with a convenient psychological weakness.

I would like to see that…..but that wasn't the arc for it. He needed to save Robin when no one else could, showing a crewmate's use on the ship wasn't all just brute force, then simply fight another CP9 member.
-

Well not for everyone, obviously, because we have technical fighters like Usopp and Nami, but I'm talking about for direct melee fighters like Luffy, Sanji and Zoro. Half the crew wouldn't make use of Douriki measurements in any meaningful way but still, it would be interesting to see how those numbers would jump after a loss and recovery, for example.
-
I don't see why we couldn't have gotten both moments for Usopp, but I understand.
I wouldn't like Douriki for melee characters-exclusively either because it has to tie-in with the levels of their opponents. And their opponents' abilities are always more varied than "I'm stronger than the last guy" like in Dragon Ball. Look at how different Enel, Lucci, and Moria are for example.
-
@Count:

You know, I honestly could have seen him take on Smoothie if he was in this arc, with how utterly underwhelming she is. :P

It would come down to who could spin the best tale and leave the other person speechless and vulnerable for a finishing move

You know what that reminds me of? How irked I am about how many marksmen are in this arc. All of the Firetank Pirates have guns in some form or fashion. Mont-d'Or has a rifle. Pudding has the candy jacket pistol. Opera has a crossbow while interrogating Luffy and Nami. Katakuri snipes people with jellybeans.
Yet this has to be the arc where Usopp can't fight ANY of them. In fact, this arc has a hell of a lot of swordsmen too and yet Zoro also happens to not be present.

Yeah, I do wish everyone was present. But I do think the reason some are gone, is because Oda is setting up a twist of Zoro getting beaten by a samurai or something.
Ah, but I do digress.

Ahh damn, what a missed opportunity Oda! Though Sanji first using DJ is one of my favorite scenes in OP, so I won't complain

Until they demonstrate the capacity to obliterate an entire island with a single blow, they can't even begin to compare to the feat of exploding a planet. So no. And by obliterate, I'm talking not even a scrap of soil left above the surface of the water afterward, literally wiping the entire geography of a place off the map. That fraction of the feat the Saiyans in their earliest fight are capable of would help indicate the OP characters' potential to follow suit, but we haven't even seen them reach that fractional feat.

I'm glad we have not. Power scaling in Dragon Ball just flew off the charts since Raditz appeared on the scene. i'm really really glad Oda decided not to go that way and showed us the top level of the series early on with Whitebeard. So no, I don't think Luffy and BB will reach Sayan levels of power, at least not Nappa's level. I really feel that side of Dragon Ball is just messed up. I have to turn my brain off every time I watch it. It is really badass though, but so is Luffy at this point.

Yeah, the whole adventure and story aspect of DBZ really fell through once they started just going outrageous with their levels of power, even after they stopped measuring it. Dragonball was better since it relied a lot more on technique and such, which One Piece has consistently done throughout and will continue to do, what with the bulk of fights decided by strategy and DF abilities rather than who can out-power-up who.

Is there a compilation of hilarious translation fails in One Piece? I thought there was a thread about that on this forum but I cannot find it by browsing the first ten pages here. I remember there was this one translation fail that was kind of a meme on this forum that I thought was absolutely hilarious; but since there have been so many I can't exactly ask for "that one translation fail". So is there a compilation somewhere where I can try my luck?

You mean "Borisomi bear", Tanjihaido" or the enirity of chapter 730?
-

Wouldn't that technically be too numerous to list? I mean, if it happens every chapter numerous times, that's…a lot of homework.
-
No the specific one I was hoping to get at wasn't one of those names, it was a proper sentence. I do think it was somewhere in Dressrosa, something related to Fujitora I think. And a Marine soldier said something stupid, might have been when the Sabo-Fujitora fight was going on. Beyond that I'd also just like to see other hilarious fails.

So, what was first
Linlin's children being named and then given appropriate Devil Fruits
or
Linlin found Devil Fruits, decided which child would get it and named it accordinglyHow big are the chances that a guy named Oven finds the Heat Heat Fruit or that a girl who is capable of making drinks is named Smoothie. Or a guy making Biscuits called Cracker.

Honestly, there's no reason it couldn't be both. There are named DFs known but given how many kids she has had, she can actively seek out appropriate ones (and either afford to buy them, or simply steal or kill anyone necessary to obtain them) or yes, simply name every newborn after whatever DF they happen to eat. But I'd have to say the more likely case is the latter, since it's unlikely she would want specific powers like making biscuits. Some would have to be custom, sure, to suit specific needs (Pudding's memory manipulation probably comes in extremely handy and would be useful for someone of such low physical power that Big Mom doesn't really seem to care much about, whereas she'd want guys like Katakuri to have more combat-friendly DFs) but most probably aren't. Unless it's an aesthetic thing. But I'd still say the more frequent case would be just naming them after whatever DF they roll the dice eating.

Does the symbol on top of the poneglyph represent an old alliance between tribes/countries/races?
If so, The bird would be the Kozuki Clan, the 9 circles could be humans and moon people, not sure what the flower/clouds and the four tails that represents the Fishmen.
As always, overthinking is what I do.
Just to take into consideration: If this is not a geocentric model, the planet has 8 moons, 9 technically with the satellite of the moon, but just a thought.
