I imagine the kind of people who put American Flag/Blue Lives Matter Punisher decals on their cars aren't really thrilled with what Punisher has to say.

Having watched the whole thing, I liked it. Nice slow burn but the sex scenes seemed a little gratuitous (and made watching this with my dad really uncomfortable) and it was a little strange how out of their way they went to not mention DareDevil or anything.

Reviews more often criticize the show for not tackling the gun issues in a "clear" or "meaningful" way rather than it bringing up politics at all. As well as criticizing the show for bad timing due to shootings like what happened in Vegas, but I can easily say that there will never really be a "right time" for a Punisher series either so they may as well do it now or never. They also claim that the show can't ever truly criticize gun violence without making Frank Castle seem like a villainous hypocrite. And they also don't like the "fetishization" of guns in the intro.

These aren't my thoughts, I'm just clarifying on the reasons I've often seen from the negative reviews.

Punisher sorta flew under my radar. I can’t help but feel disinterested in the overarching plot once it starts unfolding in the second episode. A government frame job feels more fit for a tightly paced movie rather than a stretching series. Loved the first episode though, me and my brother cheered and clapped like lunatics once he began beating those douchebag construction workers.

Just finished it. Thought it was great and might've topped DD season 1 for me.
Everyone complaining about the politics of the show needs to get thicker skin. It's not about guns/anti-gun legislation or anti-military. This show doesn't have an agenda it's pushing. One could take different parts of the show and use it to fit their own agenda, but it does a pretty good job of staying neutral on these topics IMO.

Like Count already explained, it´s not about the show bringing up gun issues, it´s about the critics using the political context as the main argument for a negative review of a show that does not, for the most part, try to be political at all, just because they expected it to take a definite stance.
It´s a show about a disturbed and tragic figure who uses his past to justify being a merciless vigilante.

In my opinion at least, any piece of fictional medium should not be judged based on what you expected it should be but based on what the creators intended to do and whether they achieved it and how well they achieved it.
This might be somewhat hard for regular consumers since expectations play a huge part in what we decide to consume after all but critics should really be above that.

What anti-militarism? If you want to go there, I think the show does more for the military than against it. It sheds light on veteran's lives and the troubles they face when they get home and adjusting back to society.
I'd get off fox news, just because a show doesn't show the military as a completely positive entity doing god's work (which it's not) doesn't mean it is anti-military.

I say neutral, because it shows various pros and cons of both sides of the argument, even with gun control. I'm glad you're going to finish the show because I think you'll see.
Hell, the most sympathetic and kind character of the show is Curtis, the veteran and leader of the support group.

If it stands for anything, it's anti-corruption, which I think is a tune everyone can get down with.

! I agree, I was going to say the show felt it was leaning more towards support for gun control having one Senator be the spokesperson. (It didn't help that the Senator was a coward and a little scummy lying about what went down in the hotel) They definitely could've done better with that, but then they also showed a bunch of needless violence by people with (I assume) registered firearms.
! To be fair, most of the characters in the show have professions that require the use of firearms (except Karen (who btw I've always found annoying lol))
! The senator had that quote like " I don't want to take certain guns away from people, but keep certain people away from guns" which can be applied to Lewis. If they had better background checks, perhaps he wouldn't have been able to get the guns.

Overall though I get some shows have an agenda, especially a political one, and though this did have some social commentary I don't think it had an agenda, and made some effort to stay neutral.

The one thing about the show I rolled my eyes at was

! The ending of the hotel episode, the final scene where Frank uses the grappling hook or whatever that was to escape. Looked too green screen for me

This show is fucking gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood. I want more fucking episodes! 13 episodes were NOT enough for this show. Just based on the pacing of this show, it is easily by far the best MCU show, and comic-book live-show in general.

Episode 12 was such a roller-coaster of emotions, and brutality. Jon Bernthal was fucking brilliant. This dude needs to win some kind of awards for his interpretation.

Kinda. She stockholmed herself a bit I think cause his backstory was so tragic. And he really only was targeting bad guys. And she understood him and he did save her life.

I think she's fairly good as an actress. I'd say she's improved since True Blood.

! I have read it, it's a great comic but I can understand why they made some of the changes they have made for the TV series. Agents of SHIELD, S5 Ep1 - We Doctor Who now, boys and girls. And Alien. And Guardians. And Battlestar Galactica. Basically: space.

! No, really. This show is different right now and I don't know how much I like it. They've been enjoying reinventing themselves often enough but this is a new kind of alteration. There's just something so final about travelling to the future. Because what would be the point if they just got back to their own time in the end? I suppose they will have saved the future then. Although I would hope they'd be able to prevent it from happening in the first place (in pod II) which would make it all inconsequential again. Except if they gather critical intel. Alright, this is going places, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
! So what happened?
! Some alien in a human suit has his strike team capture the AoS and transport them via Monolith to a space station. There's some infestation going on but that's rather incidental. Deke (almost Starlord) flies in and explains that he has been contracted to give them safe passage. Unfortunately, the guy Virgil who had organized it all gets killed by a space roach. So the team splits up to figure out their situation and they all independently make giant discoveries which I quite liked.
! 1) Earth is destroyed.

2. This is (probably) about 90 years in the future.
3. Soylent Green is people.

! That was part 1. The part that was more Alien, horror-movie in space. May's wrist got punctured, Elena's arms were almost frozen off, Vergil's face got penetrated by alien knife tentacles. It was a lot. But I liked it.
! Part 2 is where BSG comes in. People pent-up in a 'spaceship' working hard to barely survive. And some Kree overlords are there, too. Secara was wonderfully menacing without saying a word. That probably helped actually. Kasius is alright. Very Caesarian or Roman or something. That might be him or it might be the Kree civilization itself. He takes a liking to Simmons which is about as kreepy as it should be. She's basically a slave now, very Da'covale and possibly So'jhin. Those are words.
! Half of the crew gets taken in by a supervisor who thinks he knows how people used to grin but he doesn't. Coulson, Mack and Elena have found their place which probably connects to the glimpse we saw at the end of the last finale.
! Daisy follows Deke into his own personal framework of Earth and we find out that apparently Shield was responsible for this cataclysmic event that rent the Earth asunder. I don't quite buy it. There's other likely culprits out there.
! So that's it. Our agents have found themselves in new roles, they're powerless and overwhelmed and I don't know if I love that. But I usually come around with this show.
! Oh, just one more thing: You effing motherfitzers! Give me my Leopold!

! So Stark trek really is the only place where the future doesn't suck?
! Episode 1 was fun with the team being pretty incredibly self-aware and when the story had potential.
! I spotted they were in the future as soon as Vigil insisted he knew stories of them. The introduction of each character looked pretty cool.
! I like the look of the blown up eart.
! Episode 2 was decent but makes me worried for the future. It seems heavy-handed and juggling with to much to make it satisfying or not have much people rolling their eyes.

Finished The Punisher, and I was really pleased with it. I can see how some of the "fans" didn't like it, if they were expecting a lot of guns and violence. I actually like how it was handled in the show, where it had a satisfying build-up, rather than just thrown in casually for entertainment (although there was some of that, but that's not a bad thing). Especially with those last two episodes, it really earned it's ending, both with the violence and in terms of story/conclusion. I think I'd put this up there with Jessica Jones as my favorite Marvel Netflix show.

Given how Disney pressured ABC into doing this season(and likely its last season) I feel like it may be to connect it into Infinity War. Not a huge way like Coulson partaking in Infinity War, but like how the "Theta protocol" that was a big mystery Coulson was hiding for like 5 episodes turned out to be the Helicarrier and it's crew that were used to help Fury in Age of Ultron, and tying in their fights with Hydra to the Mind Stone's location for the Avengers. Perhaps this season wraps up with them learning some piece of information to advert Thanos destroying the earth and going back in time to give that information ends up saving Earth. If they wanted to do it on a high note, you could him meeting with one of the direct Avengers or Nick Fury himself(likeliest of all of them) to deliver the info. Also possibly Maria Hill.
! Of course, it could actually be Daisy or some other non Infinity War related shenanigans. But it would be a very easy and one sided way to have Coulson and his team make a huge impact on the MCU and connect it. But again, it would be one sided like the AoU example.

I'm thinking that the AoS gang will do something crucial/prevent something horrible in order to save the Avengers but they will never even know they were in danger. Protecting from out of the shadows into the light. I would like that. Partly out of spite because the movies don't recognize the show anyway.
! Let's spin this further. How about the 'man' that had them all sent to the future wants them to gather intel. But he needed Fitz back in the present to figure out how to get them back eventually. Simmons couldn't stay in order to motivate him. Although that sounds bad. She needs to be on the other side to do her part there.

Maybe closer to the movie's release we'll learn it was Thanos (the humans on the station admitted they don't know much history). May also explain why the Kree are even there. What the hell are they even doing on the station? Even if there is a tie-in, the show may be forced to spin its wheels until episodes closer to release. Not a great scenario.

Thinking about it, AoS ending this season would kinda make sense. The last Infinity Movie marks the end of an era and AoS is part of that era. Especially, if Marvel's movie branch hates TV. [RANT] I mean, give me something Infinity War movie. Wouldn't kill to have a human resistance montage with the AoS cast (Coulson's face can be shadowed, there, happy?) and the Netflixverse heroes punching out bad guys. They don't even have to talk, just do a voice over saying super powered people coming out to fight or something like that. And, since I'm in rantmode, I miss Mockingbird! Give her a Netflix show or have her guest star in one. [/RANT]

Anyway, not sure how Infinity War will affect the Netflixverse. Any shows coming out between Avengers 3 and 4 has to address it on some level.

AoS S5Ep3

! People should really be listening to Tess and Deke. This isn't the framework where it can be argued that everybody around you is merely code so it doesn't matter what happens to them. These future people are actual people who will have to suffer the consequences of your actions. Tess keeps freaking out because the agents just don't seem to care about that. But yeah, let's not actively kill somebody. Just…very passively.
! Daisy has been getting very cool lately so it's unfortunate that she's not thinking past the next corner either. Deke arranging for her capture is really just self-preservation. And very possibly more than that anyway. Deke: 'I'm playing the long-game' Kassius: 'What? Why would you say that? It's really suspicious.'
! Meanwhile Jemma helps out little Abby who has awesome abilities. We have to see her get beat up a lot before she figures them out though. That was quite hard to watch. I wonder if we'll see her again.
! We get to learn that there's a mysterious signal coming from a chunk of the earth which might very well be connected to Fitz. I hope we get to see him soon.
! Meanwhile, Yo-Yo is the best agent and character in this episode, no contest.

S5Ep4

! This was a rather low-key episode. The revelation about everybody being infertile was the most shocking plot point but I didn't really care about it. Especially because it seems very reversible. I'm more intrigued about May presumably having lost a fight. When did that last happen?
! Deke explains himself and he's still right. He gets welded in for his troubles and Coulson takes his payment away. Did he already know that the baby daddy was in need of money when he took it? The logistics seemed a little off.
! Anyway, not much more to say except that we may be getting an Inhuman uprising. And of course that Fitz is back. That's nice. Thank god that there's one more episode before Christmas. And then only a one week break.
! PS: I liked the final Yoyo and Mack scene a lot.

Agents of Shield S5Ep5 - Rewind

! This was a fine episode. Not as great as I would have hoped. A lot of threads old and new are picked up but at the same time not a whole lot happened. We got from A to B in a more or less linear fashion. The revelations we got during the episodes were very random and unexplained so they didn't hit as hard. Enok has been on Earth for 30.000 years. Okay. He follows prophecies created by Robin. Okay. The new Talbot is apparently evil. Alright.
! But…why?
! Hunter's return was cute but he didn't really do anything either. His plans were all foiled by their pursuers and/or himself. Enok handled all of their problems and it is unclear why he couldn't just take Fitz with him when he left the diner. The answer is probably prophecy.
! I did really like that they brought Robin back because in the episode she first appeared in Fitz explains the 4th dimension to us and how the future is deterministic. So obviously our writers are aware of what they will be doing. Won't help them change it, I guess. Or will it?
! Did Fitz learn how to use guns like that in Hydra? I don't remember if they mentioned that on the show but it seems likely. The scene was still a little over the top. Oh, and he got swole in prison as well. Sure XD
! Anyway, Fitz is in the future now (with all the necessary accessories) and I really hope they will all be able to return. Because otherwise Hunter basically watched his friend die. At least they'll always have Star Wars.

! I loved this episode. Good point on the mysterious military but maybe that'll be addressed later. May even be the final arc. Hunter is fun Huschel, that's all we need. Great having him back and interacting with Fitz. Mockingbird's absence made sense even if we know she's busy on another show.
! Barely remember the episode they refer to and I'm sure the fans have figured out most of the little girl's pictures. Gotta search for that. I didn't think about how everything fit, probably why I love it. All the time travel and prophecies was too much for my brain. Anyway, glad we got Hunter one more time and looking forward to the next episode. Oh, and I loved that Star Wars reference.
! Almost forgot: Seventy-four years? How did humanity get so stupid in that short of time? I know it's a small leap but…

I don't know why I don't love this episode like everybody else does. XD It was the same with '4776 hours' where I had similar complaints but I was the only one then, too. That's alright, I'm happy people enjoyed it.

And I'm fine with Hunter being back just because. I love that stupid prick.

! I love Fitz taking the long way there. Anything else I would have been disappointed. The rest of the episode was meh but I hope for some great amalgamation of regular Fitz and Nazi Fitz. Also I hope Enòk have the information about earth getting destroyed. That's kind of why they sent him way back. Know the important stuff.

Punisher I really loved.

I was a little worried of the story they wanted to make but while the big bad goverment is in it i think it really shined on the execution and the details.

I think they made the Punisher a real human being. When i saw he was getting a partner I was expecting a whole Tsundere routine of I like you but I won't show it. But no, they opted for a more genuine connection. They talk about different things sometimes even of little importance, they bicker, they snap at each other for good reasons without the other taking it personally and they have a real connection which they don't pretend doesn't exist because they are macho man. There especially a pitfall with the wife and the kid I liked how they handled

I enjoyed the hacker weirdly. I was certain there was no way an hacker could work in Punisher without being to tropey and I was wrong. From their meeting to the place they end up at the end to the actual way the hacking is handled I am actually really a fan of the execution. He was not necessary but I enjoyed his inclusion and his family might very well be the heart of the show.

Billy I don't like how they handled. There was a good way to handle it but I think he played it to straight and you didn't really feel the connection to Frank. Which is a shame since the flashback at the end proves he can and that it was a decision of the direction. I think he had great chemestry with Madoni tho. The appartment scene at the end, plus the little family snipet I really enjoy.

Madoni is shit on every level(except physically I guess).

Lewis I mostly enjoyed how they handled. I was quite invested in his journey and while it stumble a little with what happened in his visit to the one that recruited him, I really enjoyed the rest. A truly interesting journey.

For the military things i really didn't like how all the bad ones where kind of retcon.

! Billy I can understand but making the unsympathetic military a fake veteran was such a boring choice. If one had to be fake make it Curtis or another unsympathetic guy or even another sympathetic one that was just trying to give an inspiring story.

Karen was fairly okay. I really enjoyed her in her confrontation with Madoni and the hotel episode. I hope there won't be a romance there.

The ending could have gone 2 good ways. They chose a really good one but I the same time this choice make Punisher 2 painful for me to accept.

Agents of Shield S5 Ep6 - Fun & Games

! It's all Fun & Games until everybody dies! I was surprised when they killed off Glory Ben because he had so much more potential. But okay, he had served his purpose by saving every Shield Agent he ever saw. Still, not sure that was worth it for him.
! But then Tess was just dead. Maybe. Maybe she's still alive hanging from some invisible rope. She did close to nothing so far, so maybe.
Edit: Oooh. She has a floaty device on her body like Deke has. Okay, he's involved, she's faking.
! And then Fitz and Jemma murdered every Kree with a name. Which I guess is two. But very prominent ones!
! Oh, and Grill also got killed. I suppose that neatly ties up the Lighthouse part of this story and now everybody's fleeing to Earth's surface. I'm here for that. It was a little sudden and all at once though after a slowish buildup so far.
! Okay, more detail now.
! Fitz was amazing when interacting with the other traders. We obviously see parts of the Doctor persona but it all still works for Fitz. He didn't do anything too over the top. Him talking to deaf Simmons was super cruel and/or hilarious, not sure what exactly. He proposed! I of course love those two together and sincerely hope Fitz's monologue signifies that we are over the whole cursed relationship thing because it could get grating in a CW kind of way. I have faith.
! I liked that Simmons was trying to tell Fitz how to eat that snail (with a knife, duh) but then he just did his own thing. That piece of cutlery certainly did its fair share of foreshadowing before Simmons cut Kasius's throat! He got his backstory and we have a new adversary so I assume Kasius is actually dead.
Edit: Apparently a lot went over my head this episode. Simmons took Fitz's knife. That makes sense.
! When the brother asked that the Destroyer of Worlds would fight against a Kree I was all for that because sure she can kill a Kree, I don't care. But then it was Sinara. I know this awful Kree. She has a name! Don't make her fight a losing battle! I felt bad for her and yes, she did give them a spectacle. Before Fitz ended her with a particularly potent gun. Not sure if that's just Kree/future technology or if it's a special Enok weapon.
! Speaking of Enok. He was hilarious here. His aloofness thanks to having existed for millenia was really entertaining. I didn't see that last episode.
! May has a rough life and it never gets any better. But I gotta say, she looked amazing during her fight scene. Oh, and I also didn't immediately get that Ben put thoughts into Fitz's head. That was cool. Rest in peace, buddy.
! Coulson, Mack and Yo-Yo helped out newly Inhuman Flint. Mostly Yo-Yo because she is amazing. And can carry a young man while running, no problem. He repaid the favour by bludgeoning Grill to death. Who had all the time in the world to shoot Flint so it's his own fault, really.
! I think that's all that happened. It was a lot. Deke sat this one out which is good because that means he's still alive. I guess he could be their pilot to Earth because he needs to meet his father but apparently Flint has that covered.

! Fitz was great as usual. I particularly loved his commitment to his part when he realize Jemma cannot hear him and treating her like a piece of meat so he can buy her. He has truly learn to channel his Nazi persona to help his friends.
! I didn't mind Ben dying. I took it as some real consequences for the agents of shield who seems to be foing wathever they want without understanding the risks. Each of them had a stepback and now Daisy got her's. Tess death was a waste tho. Worked for drama(kind of) but a waste.
! Yoyo continue to be an highlight with instantly saving the kid. He has some pretty nie control to already be making boulders. And Grill is dead? Damn they really are killing all the the humans in this episode. Good on Dek for staying in his room.
! I would have liked some more Fitz and Kassius bonding but it seems we are going to the surface. All kree survived it seems.
! Also Fitz and Jemma are officially engaged. Great for them. After all those crazy adventures to find each other they deserve some win.
