Yeah, pretty much. Me, I'd say I'm actually a pretty big fan of The Beatles and I think I actually prefer their later stuff over their earlier stuff (but Revolution 9, yeah, that's just…what?). Although, I have to admit, I'm actually not a huge fan of The White Album.
I'm with you there…I like most of the songs on it but it's not my favorite. It is less cohesive and feels like a lot of it was done in pieces, which I think may be true from what I remember.
For another example, I've really gotten into Yes recently after listening to their 90125 album, but I was soon after told to listen to Close to the Edge, Fragile and The Yes Album to get the true Yes experience. At first I didn't think too much of the albums (except for Yes Album, which I almost immediately loved) as they seem kind of long, tedious, and unremarkable, but as I've listened to them more and more they've definitely grown on me.
I think Relayer might be a little too wierd for you, maybe check out Going For the One next (do not be afraid of the naked butt), and even Drama (Buggles and Yes unite).
