Chapter 878: Mink Tribe, Guardian Chief Pedro
-
Well, that was fast.
-
This thread was the first by a minute, so I'll use this one.
I found this to be the best chapter of the arc so far and I'm only halfway through it. (saw all the spoiler pics though)
-
people wanted a one on one fight?
here you go,your one to one fight in an isolated place where nobody can intervene..remember me a lot of the fight against lucci inside the bridge tower -
I hope we see Katakuri's mouth lol
-
demnn chapter…so nice....luffy seems to unleash full strength vs 2nd BM commander...
he maybe back with puding carpet or zues cloud...lol...
seems the BM arc still long to go
-
Since his fight with Cracker was pretty much rigged thanks to Nami's presence, it's only logical Luffy will get to beat a Yonkou top commander before finally being able to take down a Yonkou itself in Wano.
With the SH finally safe, the cake bit would become completely unnecessary, so we can be sure this coup de burst will end up being for nothing and the SH will be recaptured. It's kinda sad that Pedro's sacrifice will be for nothing when that happens (even though we know he will survive it). Oh well, I suppose we can pretend Chopper would be dead by now if he didn't exploded himself.
Good chapter, btw. Loved the "Nami!! Jinbe!! Brook!! Chopper!! Carrot!! Brulee!?" part. And one-arm Perospero is bound to look even better than he already did.
-
Really badass chapter, got me hyped. And big mom swallowed that burst lol
-
That was a great chapter. We even see Roger again :-)
Luffy once again show his strategy mastery.
And I can't believe we see someone trying to eat the ship again ! -
Perospero is the third named character to lost an arm if my memory is correct, would be the fourth be Law got his one back.
Oda might have something against arms in particular. And I guess Pedro is dead, right? -
Yeah, that was a blast. Loved Luffy's expression when he said he's coming back. I've been waiting for him to take control over the flow of battle.
I'm trying to remember, did he get something to eat in the meantime?
If there's one thing that bothers me it's that Perospero is well enough to get up and talk. But it's OP, so…
Anyway, I think even the people who hate the cake baking portion should be a little swayed, since we're finally getting a one on one fight against a badass.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Perospero is the third named character to lost an arm if my memory is correct, would be the fourth be Law got his one back.
Oda might have something against arms in particular. And I guess Pedro is dead, right? Not sure what his survival might add to the story at this point. If Perospero was still trying to capture Sunny, maybe. But they flew away safely. He had his character story rounded up nicely.
The same might have been said about Pell, though.
-
Nice, and super hyped for the next chapter
-
Perospero is the third named character to lost an arm if my memory is correct, would be the fourth be Law got his one back.
Oda might have something against arms in particular. And I guess Pedro is dead, right?Peros is fourth: Shanks, Jozu, Nekomamushi and now him. Legs aren't that much behind though with Zeff, Kuzan and Inuarashi. And if you think Oda has something against arms, you should read Bleach (granted most of the arms end up reattached/regenerated).
Anyway, great chapter. Pedro's little flashback was nice, I always like Luffy acting like a captain and his quick thinking. This might be the best Luffy's fight, but I'm afraid Oda will go with his usual way of making the final fight straight up brawl even if it'd make sense to do actually interesting and creative battle considering enemy's abilities and past encounters (Croco, Enel, Moria).
EDIT: I checked, and it turns out I forgot few amputees (like Oars or Kidd). -
Glaring luffy oh how i have missed you.
-
anyone remembers if brulee's power connects only the mirrors of whole cake island or if it applies to all Totland?
becuase if that's only WCI,there aren't many places where he can pop up and still be able to go away from the island…probably just oe place, germa kingdom, that is still being invaded in the bay of WCI
-
So now: how will Luffy get away with Sanji? Mirror on Thousand Sunny? Another ship? Will they come back? I'unno. Cool chapter though, hopefully Kata will deliver.

Probably a Mirror that takes him to Cocoa Island.

G4 can fly, sanji can fly.
-

he said something about a candy armor..so he put some kind of protection up before the blast, and he still lost an arm.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
G4 can fly, sanji can fly.
g4 can't stay activated long enough to travel the entirety ot totland..we are talking ,if i remember correctly, more than an entire day of navigation..even considering g4's flying speed being faster than a ship, it will still take him way more than he usual duration of a g4
-
Well that was fast!
Anyway, that was a pretty good chapter. I just hope that we get to see Luffy's fight with Katakuri in full without too many pointless off-screen cutaways.
-
Finally Oda turned around the situation in a couple of chapters
-
@Joy:

No, you're just impatient.
-
No, you're just impatient.
The last couple of chapters being excellent doesn't mean that the previous ones with Pudding were any great
-
he said something about a candy armor..so he put some kind of protection up before the blast, and he still lost an arm.
Oh I had no doubt he'd survive due to coating himself in candy armor or something. It's really a minor gripe, though.

To me they were. It's just a matter of appreciation of the non-battle focused stuff, as well as an understanding of the character archetypes.

If you think I don't appreciate the non battle stuff in OP then lol.OP is my favorite manga for a lot of reasons. Also I'm pretty sure I wasn't only complaining about the battle stuff. The overall writing just seemed off unlike the last 2 chapters
-
I feel like Luffy reacted more strongly to King Baum then Pedro lol
-
Pretty great chapter. Nice flashback bits here and there, nice flow of events, good art, and a great Luffy moment.
Only gripe is kind of a nitpick, but…didn't those talking cannonballs fly way too slow? Was that part of their charm, that they're sentient and so they fly at their own speed?
Aside from that, great stuff. Let's see if Oda can commit to this fight for a decent while before the inevitable cutaway.
-
Woah, BM really can't be stopped in that mode. First, Pedro's blast and then she took a coup de curst head on in her mouth (sexual pun not intented).
Other extra Details: the nox ship and Peros ship. I never believed Kidd sunk 2 ships of the singing huge type.
And Carrot has been seriously angry this chapter. I cannot deny that I like this new side on her (I'm tired of this "I'm a cute bunny"-vibe).
Of course epic Luffy: the Panel where he crushes the mirror is future Avatar-material. -
Intense chapter altogether. I could have done without the first 4 pages that do nothing but replay and bring back the action exactly where we'd left it last week. Or better yet, we could have seen this and the micro-flashbacks of Carrot training in the previous chapter; Pedro's sacrifice and his words to her wouldn't have felt so empty then.
Luffy's move was awesome, though. Now at last he acts like a captain, taking things in hand and not just running while others do the heavy lifting.
people wanted a one on one fight?
here you go, your one to one fight in an isolated place where nobody can intervene. You know it's coming, though. Brace yourselves, somebody's gonna get off-paneled…
-
What a great chapter. Nothing was unnecessary and lol at Sanji who is making a cake even though everyone just escaped.. hahahhahahahaha
I think Pedro might be definitely dead though. I mean, Perospero lost his right arm, I don't see Pedro surviving this…
And Luffy just grabbed Katakuri wtf.
-
Points for not showing that Pedro is clearly not dead.
Looks like we are getting a final fight for this arc after all.\
Solid chapter.
-
It took Law's internal organ destroyer attack and Gear 4th to finally knock down Doflamingo.
Now Luffy is about to clash with a guy who has the highest bounty to date, is in full health, has a very special paramecia ability, and can see small glimpses of the immediate future.
Hoo boy.

i would bet with you that pedro is dead if there was a way to be sure that he is dead.
-
I was NOT expecting a chapter today and definitely NOT one this awesome and hype-inducing. The tension was at a really high point. Honestly, when Big Mom grabbed the Sunny, I was not sure they would be able to activate the Coup de Burst and set sail. Nami thinking that Pedro was getting up only for Peros to make a comeback was damn hard but I'm glad Oda gave no sign of Pedro being alive. And Luffy was just incredible here. I have no idea how he plans to beat Katakuri AND escape from the Mirro-World, but dang it if he wasn't a badass pirate captain here. Count me in on the hype train! I hope this fight can get proper focus to become a brawl that rivals the Lucci fight. Pure 101 badassery. Looks like this arc still has a lot to give. And a lot of awesomeness actually.
This would be a great volume finisher, by the way. That way, volume 87 would start with Big Mom laying siege to Bege's Big Father and progress through the various escape plans and running, and finish with the Straw Hats finally getting away from the enemy. I wonder what the next couple of chapters will have to show.
-
Couldn't luffy just quickly jump back trough the mirror after dropping Katakuri in the mirror world and destroy the mirror at sunny side?
-
Great chapter all around, but the best part was Luffy smashing the mirror and taking charge of the situation.
-
I don-t see why people are hyped about luffy vs bm-s underlings, this is about luffy vs the yonkous. Katakuri, cracker, smoothie are bm-s sanji, zolo, jimbei. Luffy already beat one, he is going for second sweet commander now. He wants to solo the yonkous crew now.. Can-t blame him, with how much the crew was separated, it-s hard to feel like you have a crew to count on to take the rest.
what about the others. what do they get… bobbin, opera, zeus
how will wano even look like... luffy solos the 3 calamities before he moves to kaidou himself and rest get to eat popcorn and Watch.
-

Katakuri would see that coming and react accordingly.
-
Couldn't luffy just quickly jump back trough the mirror after dropping Katakuri in the mirror world and destroy the mirror at sunny side?
He could, but then the later would be free to come back using a different mirror or Brulee's powers (we've seen she can open portals pretty much anywhere even without a mirror). Staying behind to prevent that is safer for the rest of the crew, not to mention a lot more epic.
-

Sanji is still on Whole Cake Island, Luffy's objective from the start was to bring him back. Also, I think he kind of just wants to beat the shit out of someone for Pedro.

You just said it yourself. These guys are Big Mom's Zoro, Sanji and Jinbe. Right now, there is no Zoro or Sanji to face Katakuri, and Jinbe is busy helping the crew escape. Back in Enies Lobby, Luffy also defeated Blueno before moving on to take Lucci, not to mention the enormous amounts of fodder he took out before the rest of the crew + Franky Family + Giants + etc. even arrived. Luffy is the crew's strongest fighter, he's the one who must protect the crew. He can't navigate like, Nami, he can't steal poneglyphs like Brook did, he can't heal the crew after the battle like Chopper, but he can protect these guys by fighting the strongest opponents. This is not the time for Luffy to fight 1-on-1 with an Emperor yet. That's the final fight in the series. Luffy takes on Blackbeard, end of story. Wano will involve the whole crew, including Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbe, not to mention Law, Kid, Hawkins, Drake, Apoo, Dog and Cat, the rebellious Samurai, Marco, maybe Weevil and/or Moriah. There should be no lack of fights involving a lot of different parties and characters. Kaido has been built up as the strongest thing alive. Luffy will deal the final blow but there is no way he will fight him without help. You and others are getting way too impatient in regards to fighting the Four Emperors.
-
I find the final text about the future a bit lame since Katakuri's power to see the future have been completely forgotten for the past dozen of chapters. Like in this very chapter where he clearly wasn't able to foresee anything that was going to happen.I STAND CORRECTED
@uniaka:
Luffy already beat one, he is going for second sweet commander now.
Did you just looked at the drawings and ignored the bubbles? Luffy completely failed to beat Cracker on his own, he only stood a chance because Cracker had a major weakness against water and Nami provided it so he was weakened to a point Luffy could defeat him. Luffy needs to defeat one of the Sweet Commanders or one of the Calamities on his own before he can move to Kaidou.
Luffy x Cracker didn't prove Luffy was on the level of a Yonkou's top commander. Actually it made the opposite, it made it look like he was not ready for that level yet. His fight with Katakuri will be his second chance to cross that line by himself and prove he can face the logical next level: a Yonkou (well, technically I would place admiral as the next level).
-
What a great chapter. Nothing was unnecessary and lol at Sanji who is making a cake even though everyone just escaped.. hahahhahahahaha
They still aren't out of Totland, just WCI. There is a lot of Tart Ships around and BM can easily get to them on Zeus.

no he is not.
he is going towards chocolate town with pudding and chiffonwhich is also the same direction the other strawhats will take via ship
-
I'll let you know that they are still not outside Totland. So no, it's not over yet and the cake is still necessary.

He used his powers last chapter to make his underlings run away into the mirror world.

i think you might wanna re-read the last chapters..you clearly have no idea what is going on@.access:

he understood what luffy was gona do,but when he realized he was already in luffy's grasp and unable to move.
he can see the future, but only e bit -
Great chapter!
And glad that Joy Boy will finally shut the fuck up with his "WAAAHHHH MUMMY I WANT MUH FITES!!!!"
