I would disagree with you that. If One Piece isn't doing well over here. Why are we 500 episodes into the dub then?
its doing well enough to sustain itself. But that's it. For a big property such as this, that's still sad.

Really? Because just a few days ago you were getting your "jimmies twisted" so same for you too dude
Getting my jimmies twisted due to OPs lack of success here is totally warranted tho.
Getting them twisted because "Wah, he's being mean to me on the internet" is not.
-
I'm gonna be banned anyways. I've tried to be civil and that still happens.
Oh for the love o-
Ok, listen to this really quick. You were Permabanned in the past for legitimate reasons. You yourself are acknowledging it by saying you have "Tried to be civil". In the past, on multiple occasions, you did things that warranted being Banned, and the Mods/Admins saw fit to put a Permanent Ban on you.
Permanent means permanent.
It doens't matter how "Civil" you are, you're still a person who was banned in the past.
Typically, when a person is banned and comes back under an alt, they try to stay under the radar. Present as a different person, try to correct their mistakes so they can continue to have conversations etc.
You flat out telegraph who you are with not only your choices of names, but your behavior.
Because you were permabanned before, it doesn't matter now if you're "Civil" or not. You are a ban avoider. you are immediately breaking the rules by coming back at all.
Unfortunately, the folks that run AP don't have the power of the Turner Broadcasting legal team behind them to keep you from making alts.
This thread is the most lively when I'm in here rustling jimmies, they should thank me.
Don't forget Demon Rin, he (is she a girl? Who cares!) will never forgive due to me cursing her out once.
Unforgivable!
Ok, this is just childish, petty, and stupid. I'll grant that you may not have known my gender the last time and since there are no girls on the internet, assumed I was male, but I have both A: Told you my gender, and B: Told you I find this crap insulting.
That first time might have been a mistake, this time you are definitely trying to insult me.
Hey, man. Why you gotta bring One Piece down in this fight? Haha.
With regards to contrarian-man (not GreatUsopp), I'll never understand why people fight so much on forums–and then why they bother to put effort into making new accounts/email addresses whenever they get banned. It's like, jeez, don't you have something better to do? Wasting everyone's time.
This guy is particularly dedicated to this Bullshit.
He's been banned from Toonzone forums, and Adult Swim forums too for much the same shit. I even heard actual legal action was taken against him by Turner Broadcasting on the latter. He is dedicated to spreading his message that One Piece is less popular than other Anime, and this means doom and gloom for the franchise in the US. EVERYBODY must share his pessimistic view, and if they don't? Well, he'll keep beating that dead horse until it gets back up.

Wow, legal action? This guy is a mess that never ends

Yeah, apparently he harassed some folks so bad they felt the need to actually put out a restraining order and threatened to take him to court.
There was a permanent notice at the top of the forum to look out for him and what to do if he tried to come back with an alt.
Sadly, AS forums are gone now and with them went that notice and a lot of the info on this, so we can't go look at all this anymore, so I don't have details beyond that.
-
Anyway, back on topic.
I don't really mind Hordy's dub voice that much. I'm more or so curious of what Zeo will sound in the dub. Since he in my opinion was one of the highlights of Fishman Island.

He was in the second of two episodes that FUNi put up for free on their site a month ago and he sounds alright, I don't really remember what he sounded like in Japanese though

Thats….not good. This guy needs to reconsider what he is doing because it's just not right. We all love One Piece but this is taking that to levels that don't need to exist

And he's banned, finally it's over until he decides to come back again for some reason or another

Thanks, wolfwood. I was just about to report him.
-
Any ideas on who should voice Vergo? I was thinking that they should use some LA actors like Richard Epcar or Ray Chase but I think Josh Grelle could work too
-
It hardly matters anyway. One piece is popular just about everywhere else (here included imo). What makes the USA seal of approval that much more important??
It's just a matter of perspective for fans who live in the US I think. Nothing more than that really.
Only anime like Dragon Ball Z with nothing but nonstop fighting do well in the states anyway because that's the kind of stuff Americans apparently want. Even TV shows that focus on storytelling over action get a lot of flack from the masses.
Then again, does it really matter as long as it does well enough to continue selling for as many seasons as it has? It's not like you need approval from random masses to enjoy what you like.

You hit the nail right on the head. It's pretty much exactly how I feel at the moment. As long as I can continue to purchase the product, than I'm good.

Couldn't agree more
-
I don't blame Hordy's VA for "sounding off" from his character. Isn't the voice director mainly responsible of how the characters sound? It must have been that.
Still haven't heard Shirahoshi's dub voice except for the small gasp. Thus, the wait continues.
-
You can hear more Shirahoshi in the Voyage 2 trailer.

Here is Zeo's voice dubbed:

Season 9 Voyage 2 just shipped for me. Should have it tomorrow.
-
Nevermind. Apparently, "Expedited Shipping" means it'll take all week and arrive on Friday.
-
I think it's pretty interesting that they don't base the scripts for the dub off the Toei simulcast subs and instead base them off the translations that Toei did for the episodes before they truncated them for the subs. I always thought that the dub scripts since episode 415 were based off the Toei subs but it's a good thing that they don't base them off those
-
Funimation keeps shipping too late, so I keep cancelling on them and going with a cheaper price at Amazon… Wouldn't have gotten it till past release date if they still haven't shipped...
-
-
Despite choosing "expedited shipping" from RightStuf, my package, which shipped out two days ago, has only moved one state over to Wisconsin for some reason. Dammit. It's definitely not coming today. :\
-

Check the trailer for voyage two. She has a few small lines. More than a gasp, anyway.
-
If you haven't picked it up yet, Season 9.2 is 24.99 on Amazon currently
-
Oh, good. My preorder price went down even more. Awesome. Last week I intended to pay $37 for this through Funimation.
-
The set release next Tuesday, right?
I'll pick up both S9 V1 and V2 when my check comes in.
-
Season 9, Voyage 2 is coming out this upcoming week. I can't wait for it.
-
Nothing from the Otakon panel this week? Funimation now has more time to dub anime since Crunchyroll took over the subs, yet all they seem to want to dub is fan service shit. Frustrating. Dub the OP specials and films; dub the dozens of gorgeous, brilliant anime out there (like Eccentric Family or something). Jeez.
-
They actually announced something that I been waiting for awhile Kiddy Girl and. Which is the sequel series of Kiddy Grade, which is one of my favorite anime series. Yeah, it's not One Piece, but I'm happy one of the series I been waiting for awhile is getting an release.
-
In terms of their November home video lineup announcement at Otakon, there was nothing One Piece wise announced but there wouldn't be a set released in November anyways due to the one set every other month release schedule that they have going on so the next set will come out in December. However, I do agree with your statement, like when is 3D2Y supposed to come out? That was teased a while ago

I still think the brand manager was just confused when he said that. Probably was thinking of HoG. I feel like we should've heard about it by now…

I don't know because Heart of Gold was announced months after that so I don't think that's the case
-
"Your package is in transit, and has been delayed."
Greeaaat.
-

Eh. It's just a guess. I have no proof, and I hope I'm wrong. But HoG being the first special released after that conversation and us never hearing about it since has me suspicious.
Finally finished the last set. I like the voices of the princes. Had forgotten how odd two of them are… And I've heard a bit more of Hody and like him just fine--outside of that bad filter used in the trailer, I think he's doing a fine job. The pitch isn't too high, either.
And the only New Fishmen Pirate besides Hody/Hordy that I have any memory of is the octopus guy. He's the best.
-
Only watched the first episode on the new set. So far…well we'll have to see about Hordy. The same problem here applies to Arlong (coincidentally), who just has a really freaking awesome Japanese seiyuu (the guy who plays Japanese Alucard and many other iconic roles). Even though Hordy himself as a character is rather meh, his voice in the Japanese version really gave life to him. It's too early for me to judge though. I'll really have to see how he handles certain scenes but I did enjoy the Hordy attack on those random pirates.
Out of Hordy's crew, the only ones I even come close to somewhat caring about are Zeo (the striped guy with no mouth) and Hyouzu. Mainly because I liked their personalities and quirks to a degree but they still sucked as fighters. I guess all their voices seem okay from what I've heard.

Who voices Shirahoshi?
-
Hyouzu managed to poison Luffy and take a hit, at least.
-
Who voices Shirahoshi?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryn_Apprill
I'm not really familiar with her but she did the voice of Meldy in Fairy Tail, Krista/Historia in Attack on Titan, Hiyori in Noragami, among others. She seems fairly new but is making her way up. I haven't heard her just yet so I can't comment on her role as Shirahoshi.
I do like all the new voice actors we get in One Piece. Keeps things fresh.
-
Finally got my set, and will marathon the entire thing today. digs in
-
Heard dub Shirahoshi last night. No complaints whatsoever. She's doing a great job.
Neptune and Fukaboshi are okay as well. I have no strong feelings one way or another.
Though I have to admit that it's slightly possible Joel McDonald is aware of how the fans view this arc because he was REALLY hamming up the performance for some random side characters. And I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Guess that's up to the individual. There's also a few random lines like Nami's, "Buy this for me, Luffy" or Brook's, "Interesting, so star fish DO sweat" that were funny but at the same time I'm wondering if they were too much. Especially the Nami one because while it fits her character, why the heck would she ever expect Luffy of all people to buy her anything? Ah well, just minor things there.
Oh yeah, Vanderdecken sounds great.
-
Yeah I'm really enjoying the comedy in these episodes, I don't remember the subs being this funny
-
I got Season 9, Voyage 2. I'm really enjoying the dub of the Fishman Island arc so far.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I actually like the voices for Hordy and his crew in the dub. They all sound pretty good to me.
-
Btw, if anyone cares, with this set, you have actually managed to catch up to the German dub - the Fishmen Island arc is currently broadcast on German TV for the first time, even though we started airing in, what was it, 2003?:ninja:Remember that the next time you complain about not getting new episodes for a few months
This arc is also not nearly as bad as people say it is. It has been quite funny so far and the Fisher Tiger/Otohime flashback is actually really good - two very underappreciated characters imho.
-
I never really had an problem with Fishman Island, even when I originally saw it. I just feel the arc is a lot better watching it in marathon. Awhile ago, I rewatch Fishman Island on crunchyroll and I felt it was a lot better.
Brook have been the highlight in the dub so far on Season 9, Voyage 2, and I want to mention that I do like Shirahoshi's dub voice.
-
Hm. I remember one of the complaints being that the Straw Hats' quirks were on overdrive. And that I still whole-heartedly agree with. Especially for the beginning of the arc and return to sabaody. Brook makes several bone puns per episode, Sanji only ever appears when he's girl-crazy (not to mention Oda actually making it a plot point, useful vehicle for exposition about blood transfusion though it was), and a few other times the main characters just got a little too exhausting. (I've watched the first set about four times now, so that also doesn't help, though I don't think that's the reason they're wearing on me because they usually don't).
The pacing is still a little slow so far, but I'm enjoying it, too. It's also the rare (only?) arc to have two factions of villains.
-
The first set was fine, but I agree Brook and Sanji in particular were a bit too much this second set. Thank god Sanji's character gets back on track after this arc but if you're a Sanji fan it's painful to watch in this arc. Now Oda did use it as a way to introduce the blood problem but…yeah.
Many people hate on the flashbacks this arc, especially the Otohime one, but I think that material is leagues better than the actual present-day storyline. Especially when it ties into the end of the arc.
-
Who voices Otohime and Fisher Tiger if anyone has gotten that far and is the set all Joel or does it have some of Mike in there?
-
Who voices Otohime and Fisher Tiger if anyone has gotten that far
Otohime: Amanda Lee
Fisher Tiger: Gabe Kunda

Funny; I was talking about the first set. Haven't watched the second yet, so I'll look forward to that…
And on a narrative level, there's something oddly problematic about over-blowing a comedic character quirk to serve as a vehicle for relevant exposition. I haven't quite put my finger on it, but, yeah, the tonal shifts in that sequence of events alone is problematic. I'm decidedly not crazy about the arc so far, but yes, it is better than I remember because it's in English and not week-to-week. (something about being in English makes the pacing feel faster.)
-
Just finished Season 9, Voyage 2. Otohime and Fisher Tiger dub voices are really good in my opinion. Also it's great to hear Arlong back in the dub again.
