I go with mostly LuffyX Nami and ZoroXTashigi myself. I've seen a couple of RobinXLuffy out there, but Luffy is not smart enough to handle Robin. I know Oda said that there would be no romance between the crew, but it's open season for pairings after the all the SH's achieve their dreams, and the crew is disbanded.:ninja:

Corazon x Sanji LOL. They're both extremely too similar.
I know Corazon's dead but umm… let imagine a weirdo AU thing hahaha. -
If we can go with the dead, I'd ship Bankina and Bellmere. They would make a cute couple imo. It's possible that they've met before Yasopp (he wasn't around that much anyway).
So in this ten years until they died they were able to visit each other quite a view times. Never involved the kids because of the loud noises though.Obvious theory: Bankina died of grief because of Bellmere's death.
-
Oh cool, a ship talk thread. :D
My unironic OTP is Luffy and Law, but my money is on Nami and Luffy being together after the end of the series.
I think Nami and Wanda would be a cute pair. I don't really care much for Zoro and Sanji even if some of the fanworks are really nice to look at. I crackship Robin and Zoro for the sole reason of imagining if Law was their kid; it's downright scary how much Law has in common with the two of them. I think Robin and Franky is a more likely pairing to happen in canon though.
Can't wait for the eventual reveal of Sanji's bride. With him being such a womanizer throughout the series, I wouldn't put it past Oda to make her out to be a joke character with an ugly face/ridiculous personality. It'd be a hell of a lot more interesting if they have some actual potential as a couple together.
-
I forgot to put one for Zoro! It's hard because he comes across as downright asexual the majority of the time. I know a lot of people ship Zoro/Robin or Zoro/Sanji, but I agree that Franky/Robin works better and Sanji's pretty frickin' straight. Zoro/Tashigi maybe, but that might get too awkward with the fact that 1) they're on opposite sides, and 2) she looks too much like his dead friend.
What about Zoro/Perona?
Or, it would also make plenty of sense for Zoro to not end up with anybody, since he sure doesn't seem interested.

I don't mind Zoro/Perona, but I'd need someone else to imagine how the relationship would go since my own imagination can't get past the 'dumb brother/annoying sister' dynamic, which I really enjoy.
Zoro is a tough one to ship for me. He's definitely likely to go down the same path as Mihawk, living for the challenge of eventually being beaten by another better swordsman down the line but without the whole loner schtick thanks to the SH. I still feel like Tashigi's the one with the biggest chance of ending up with him, but your point of them being on opposite sides is what I consider the biggest detriment to the possible romance; I don't think Zoro would mind it, but Tashigi is a Navy through and through.
-
I'm pretty sure Luffy or anyone else will bot be with anyone in the end.
-
Is it me or is Nami getting really touchy feely with Luffy lately, especially in this chapter. Could be something, could be nothing.

I think that more applies to Usopp…but there it´s a sister/brother thing^^

Ace x akainu fist of love
Zorro x kokuto yoru (yoru left their mark of love in zorro sexy body since their first meet)
Sanji x his harem (all okama from okama kingdom)
Ok, all was joking, in the serious note i ship franky x robin
In the cover story chapter 545, robin prisoner number was combination of her birthday and franky birthday (3926)
On sbs oda said franky was father and robin was mother on strawhat
Still on sbs, oda said if strawhat have real life job franky would be pilot and robin would be stewardess
In punk hazard after luffy and the rest knocked out by caesar robin body lying down on franky body
Still in punk hazard franky sleeping on robin lap
After dreasrosa, they wearing same clothes
In zou, its just "look like" not sure for this one, robin sleeping on franky hand
And i like idea franky being the father on SH, he's just like a dad who want make his son happy (and proud of him too) by doing silly stuff (robot stuff) and franky really remind me of gideon starling (father of starling family) from lolipop chainsaw, i dont know why….
And last mihawk x perona, that dude already 43 and only perona the girl who interact with him... poor mihawk, give some sympathy at least

I don't ship much in One Piece. Since Oda doesn't seem much interested in depicting romance relationships, I think it will be very subtle and only when we get closer to the end of the series. I don't think he'll pair every single main character either.
Besides Usopp x Kaya, where both seem to have feelings for the other, I'd bet my money on Robin x Franky happening by the end (although not necessarily married). The hints have been more and more evident. They've been paired up a lot since Enies Lobby, always talking to each other on the background, and they're actually really similar in values. The two interactions that, to me, hint a possible relationship are 1.膝枕 'hizamakura', when Franky sleeps on Robin's lap (chapter 673). In Japan this is generally done by couples, and Oda addresses this exact panel on SBS#71 when a reader asks why cute animals and married couples love laps so much. 2. ペアルック 'pair look', another couple interaction common in Japan, where couples wear matching outfits. Franky and Robin have done this two times in canon: during the feast in the end of Punk Hazard, she wears a bear hood and Franky sports a bear hairstyle; and when they leave Dressrosa, both of them are wearing the same "Corrida" tank tops and booty shorts. In non-canon stuff like movies and the Tokyo Tower official LIVE Attraction, it's even more evident how the Japanese already regard them as a couple.
Other than that, for the rest of the Straw Hat crew: I currently don't see Luffy, Zoro or Sanji in a relationship with anyone, for various reasons. The next arc could be a turning point for Sanji's character, though, when we see what will be his actions regarding the marriage. I also don't see Nami with anyone in particular. The only times she has shown any interest, it was towards women. I like Nami x Vivi and Nami x Usopp, but it won't happen. Chopper has shown interest in the deer mink, but I don't think we'll see any relationship between them, at max we'll see Chopper wanting to visit Zou frequently. Brook, well, not really.
Outside the Straw Hat crew, I really like Sai x Baby 5, and I think Sabo x Koala will happen, they're adorable together. Shanks and Makino are probably a thing too.
-
-
While Oda did say Romance isnt a big factor, but I do feel he will pair some characters at Series End
Such as ones that could happen
Sanji & Nami
Zoro & Tashigi
Luffy & Hancock [if Luffy doesn't die at the end and Hancock is brought back in the story around the Final Arc]Ones that have a more heavy hint
Usopp & Kaya
Shanks & Makino (due to the 'mystery dad question' of Makino's Baby which may be answered if shanks dies)
Sabo & Koala -

So Sanji x Purin. I'm not that much of a shipper, never seriously shipped anything in OP before, but for some reason I ship these two like no tomorrow and they haven't even met yet. I mean, they're both master chefs and they're both hiding an eye under their hair = perfect match?? Make it happen please.
Also, Purin possessing a flying carpet means she's totally going to have A Whole New World scene with Sanji, right?
-
About Sanji x Pudding, I'm not sure if I ship it or not, but they look like they'll be a cute match. I can't wait to see them actually interact, but right now they seem perfect for each other. I found this cute and very well made fan art of them:

Oh, you must see this - the "official" soundtrack to the Sanji x Pudding ship

The character song "Moulin Rouge", written for and sung by Sanji (Hiroaki Hirata). To me, the lyrics seem to fit a bit too well into the current plot. Maybe Oda helped writing (I don't think so) or was inspired by this song. The parts that stand out to me:
"We'll scrutinize all ingredients, a boy meets girl collaboration" - Sanji and the girl are cooking together; Pudding is also a cook.
"Glaze three days, we'll float through the sky" - How many days are there until the wedding? Three, right?
"You made such a lonely face" and "I'll grind away your tears" - The girl in the song is sad and so was Pudding (looking) sad the first two times we saw her (Fishman Island and the picture they sent to Sanji), though we still don't know why.
"Vanilla girl", "Cassis girl", "Biscuit girl" - referring to the girl with cute dessert nicknames, and Pudding is also the name of a dessert.
"Parting is always blue, marriage (…) as long as I have my wits, I'll find the words hard to say in this situation" - Sanji needs to tell her he can't marry her, and they'll part ways.I don't think they'll marry right now, but I kind of want them to meet again and be together in the EoS. If Pudding really is who she seems to be, I'm all in for this ship.

Haha, this is pretty awesome.
I'm definitely holding my breath waiting for what direction Oda's going to take this pairing. Is it going to be just another gag or something more…

I'm very upset no one's talking about new best couple. Luffy x yffuL. Discuss.

(Spoilers from manga!!!) Man I was disappointed baby 5 did not join the strawhats she was awesome and hilarious she was perfect for the crew, but now I kind of want purin to join thew crew. Its possible Sanji marries her to save his 'nakama' from big mama (and cuz purins is his type), Purin joins, big mama may ally and lend luffy some help vs Kaido! I personally think by the end of the show Nami will have overt feelings for luffy both of them are the main guy-girl characters of the show, both of them have the most Hero-damsel scenes and hopefully by the end of the show luffy will be more grown like Shanks. I think by the end not in a romance way but more comedic way( without luffy realizing it) Nami will show over feelings for the goofy luffy ( he is future pirate king after all). Nami knows luffy is her man since the Arlong saga. And yea this is a comedy/adventure but it is interesting the last few arcs Oda has put in more comedic/romance type stuff with the Baby 5 x Monkey guy, Violet and sanji, now the marriage thing. I think we will only see bits of this more by the end. And next arc maybe we will see Zoro and tashigi meet at wano as well!
-
While Romance is not a high Priority for Oda, i really hope He doesnt totally follow the Trope Of Main Hero usually ending up with Main Heroine. Cause If you look at Dragonball & Naruto Pairings, Naruto Married Hinata While Sakura Married Sasuke. Then We got to see Goku Marry Chi Chi(who was barely around in Early DragonBall) and we got Bulma marry Vegeta. So i feel Luffy marrying Hancock at the final few chapters of One Piece would be real nice plus i feel Sanji will rage even more then he did in Thriller Bark if Nami is hurt or held as a hostage during the current arc. i know luffy keep telling Hancock 'No' but i feel the reason why is cause he was more focus on becoming Pirate King & Adventure like How Goku likes to be focused on getting stronger and fighting strong opponents. but i do agree that Zoro & Tashigi seem to be possibly heading to becoming a Couple if it does happen.
-
Though I love one piece for the comedy/story, this stuff has been bothering me lately. Man to me Hancock was just comedy, she is hot and interesting but her role was to get Luffy into Impel down in my opinion. To me since episode 1 the nami-luffy interactions, story lines, rescue arcs, even movie focus(like strong world) as well as in critical moments its normally Nami always seeking luffy. I think Oda wants no romance to steal focus from the story, but I think he has promoted this pairing in most arcs though subtly. Also without a navigator and namis brains Luffy cant be 'free' and adventure if you think about it she is his most important ally. So I like it to happen. I get your point on the main guy x main girl, but honestly beyond the hints of NamxLuffy moments arlong park, skypia, Strong world etc and Zorox Tashigi(or robin), I don't see any hints of other possibilities. But It will be very interesting when Hancock meets Luffy and Nami. Also when Ace died Nami cried for luffy, and I have a feeling dragon or shanks will die also soon at the hands of blackbeard, interesting to think about.
-
About Hancock, I don't think she was there purely for the comedy, but I also don't want Luffy to end up with her only for pity or because she'll die, he'd better stay alone then if it's just to not break her heart. What about Luffy's happiness? He has already stated he wouldn't marry her… I love Hancock and I don't want her to die but if she is to end up with Luffy, they need some serious development, and soon - we're set to the EoS now, these things take time to develop. To Hancock, either she'll actually die for Luffy, or she'll find someone else who reciprocates her feelings.
Luffy and Nami is more likely, they have a lot of things going for them. I'd rather not see them getting too romantic with each other though, what I can see happening is more of an implied relationship than an actual marriage.
Zoro x Tashigi need more development, but they're on the right way and Oda has even implied that Tashigi might feel something for Zoro. He also gets so easily pissed when she's around, even after overcoming his issue with her looks.
Usopp x Kaya = canon.
Franky and Robin are not canon (yet), but they already act like a couple, seriously. They have a history together, they interact a lot, Franky called her "beautiful" and "super", he complimented her ugly drawing, they talk a lot to each other even in the background. Plus he slept on her lap and they wear matching clothes, classic couple stuff in Japan.
Chopper x Milky, which in SBS #82 Oda heavily implied she was Chopper's endgame.
I can't see Brook romantically involved with anyone (maybe Cindry-chan, but that won't happen).Right now, the only one hanging on the line for me is Sanji. Viola, Pudding or someone else? Nami, I don't see it happening but I won't rule out that possibility. Personally, I'm waiting to see his development with Pudding, and her real intentions, because I'm feeling tempted on supporting them. I don't think they'll marry now, but I can see them meeting again after he fulfills his dream.

There are people that really believe Straw Hat couples are canon?
-
There are people that really believe Straw Hat couples are canon?
I don't think so, since none of them are canon so far. But there are people who believe Oda stated there would be no romance in the crew or One Piece like it was 100% set in stone, when he was actually really dodgy with his answers. I don't expect a full blown romance anyway.
-

Hi :]. Ya Oda never said 'no romance' he said 'they are in love with adventure' and there has been tons of Romance last few arcs from Dressrosa. Shocking one to me besides Sanji and Violet was Baby 5 and Sai? I loved baby 5 and I thought she would join the strawhats, they needed a gunner and someone hillarious to match sanji xD. But to me Luffy-Nami has the most evidence to develop as we near the end along with Usopp-Kaya and Zoro Tashigi. Luffy-Nami had this intense opening episode and the most serious moments together.Btw this Youtube guy does One Piece reviews he doesn't care for romance but he made a interesting video on 'romance in one piece' and uses evidences
-
Usopp is already the gunner/sniper of the crew.

I agree with this post, And your parings!
I think since dressarosa arc Oda has broken his previous statements intentionally because he does intend to develop light parings for the end. Sanji and Violet was obvious romance, sai x baby 5 etc. To me Luffy-Nami is something that will occur towards the end after a timeskip or so when Luffy is no longer a kid. The amount of development between him and Nami, rescue arcs, movies, resemblance to roger-rogue, epic moments is just too many to seem as coincidence. Plus Nami in my opinion since Zou has been showing more feelings for him and I think will grow from there.

Sup?
i have a few things to say..
first, i dont mean this as a major insult but most of you must be kids with little experience of love and internal feelings of a woman or man..
in a real world senario and this would still apply to one piece. nami and luffy will never be a possible out come. for one nami sees him as a little brother. second nami loves money and would go for a guy with it or someone who didnt care about it.. like sanji. Luffy doesnt care about money, just food. she also shows female interest in sanji more then once each time she gives in to him. she doesnt just do it for a slave, shes even mentioned only doing it for a bit longer before maybe trying something later on, or hinting at it.
second, and i feel the strongest about this to the point id never watch this again if it didnt happened in the future if there was relationships. would be luffy and hancock. i love that woman lol and she truely loves luffy. she goes so far as to change her wicked ways before him. cooks his meals, ect. not to mention luffy has never been endearing to anyone but hancock. in a man and woman world of true love the things hes done for nami are a sister brother relationship but he edearingly grasps hancocks hand. a sign of passion. he also gets enraged about boa in impel down. and you see it in his eyes that he cares. i assume he tells her no because they just met, hes not king yet. so hes busy atm. but in terms of a marriage relationship shes the only one in the whole show who has even hinted at being his for real future woman. i dont even see how you imagen a nami luffy outcome lol they show no actual love towards eachother in fact she chooses money over him daily lol she makes me laugh, in fact she herself has hinted at even being lesbien. or trying it maybe one day. id go so far as to say thats the best option i can imagine for her. shes total tomboy.
I do,see robin and a franky senario.. i mean she has grasps his junk before the first chance she got in fact lol seemed interested a few times. but i also see a long building relationship between robin and zoro. i doubt it but i see the most future there. he was the only one to know she wasnt a traitor. right off the bat, no doubts. he just knew. they talk privately also daily, expecially at night. real mature talk at that. they both have that grown up, already knows what to do or should be done mind set. robin has also shown feelings a couple times for zoro as well as him towards her.
tashigi and zoro… hmm.. this is complicated.. she looks like his childhood rival, that alone tells me they wont get together because of who zoro is. A man of honor, rivalry, ect. not to mention she loves smoker fools. and he obviously loves her. in his bad ass idgaf type way.
also in what anime or world does a woman not get the man she wants? lol for real.. hinata got what she wanted and naruto was oblivious af. so is luffy for boa.. is obvious there a future couple.. the pirate king.. and the empress. she actually shows you true love towards him and you all doubt it lol.. its funny. there aint no way shed let another woman touch him without a fight to the death. i garentee it. to the deathhhhhh! but seriously, she loves him. he cares for her, that little hand gesture is the most love hes ever shown to a woman so far. trust me. they dont zoom in on that stuff in slow mo for nothing either. -

I agree with some of your points but i dont think because a ship is one sided doesnt make it more possible to be canon. Luffy x Boa is pretty unrequited anyway lol -
Luffy harem shares with all of his baes.

Nami originally appeared in the first color spread and first shonen jump cover despite not appearing till chapter 8.
Not to mention that Oda's oneshots had Nami-esque characters in the forefront. So I think it's obvious that they'll be together - but it won't be blatant. It will definitely be offscreen, and then maybe we see their baby or something.
anyway, does anyone else miss Zoro and Robin's interactions in the Skypeia arc? She's the only level-headed person in the crew, and Zoro always kinda jived with her well.
-

I think that's more because a lot of Oda's women characters resemble Nami, especially in the early days.
-
@Kaido:

True. But they still occupied similar roles to Nami, and similar clothing.
I do wish Oda had more variety in the female designs. They all kinda look the same, save for colors and hair.
-
So with Pudding having the major hots for Sanji, Sapu confirmed?
-
Pairings and ships… one of the most annoying yet absorbing topic in any series, and I'm one of the guilty ones who indulge it as well :) Generally most Shonen mangakas refute the idea of romance in their works, but they most often than not give us some endgame couples in the end anyway. So I'm just here to give my two cents, since i like to indulge ;)
Luffy and ??? - I don't know who he's going to end up with, but I get the feeling he won't be ending up with anybody in the end. He will achieve his dream to be the Pirate King and conquer the seas and sit there staring off into the distance (or chomping on meat) as the series end XD Luffy treats everyone with the same degree of love and respect so it's a bit difficult to pinpoint a possible partner. Though if I were really to name someone, it would be Nami (since she's the female closest to Luffy) or Boa Hancock (in Shonen series, don't the girl who declares their love openly for the hero gets him in the end? Look at Hinata and Orihime). I think the chance is low though.
Zoro & Tashigi - Zoro is my favourite character, and this is probably my most favourite couple of all the possibilities. The presence of one just revvs the other up, no matter how you see it. I also like that they are both similar in terms of being swordsmen, but on opposing sides. The we-are-enemies dynamic is interesting between the both of them, and yet they don't fight like regular enemies do.
I like their interaction in Punk Hazard - and I think there's probably some impression to be had on why a certain amount of panels were devoted to an unlikely (and funny) scene of Zoro carrying what we would call a secondary character and someone who isn't his nakama to safety. I could just be biased though, but those were quite cute moments.
I also like that Zoro lets slip regarding his past to Tashigi during their sword duel in Loguetown where he berates her for looking and saying similar things like his past friend. That scene also left an impression on me, as no one on the Mugiwara team knows this about Zoro's past yet.
Tashigi is not a very popular character, I like her but I can see why many don't. She can come across as whiny (and I know how unrealistic she seem to be regarding hers and Zoro's strength difference), and she isn't very strong in comparison to many other characters.
I hope she will be involved in the Wano arc, and they get more development and exposure. If not Tashigi, I think Zoro will end up with no one.
Sanji & Pudding/Nami - Sanji will definitely end up with someone and as a ladies' man, he has many potentials. I think he would end up with Nami actually, I think their relationship has progressed to a deep one where they are just comfortable with each other's presence. And he's always saving her like the prince he is.
But with the introduction of Pudding, I actually think this partnership is also lovely and adorable. Sanji helped Pudding see past her evil side and tthey seem to have mutual feelings for each other - she's in love with him (just with that troublesome personality warping in and out, which I find quite wacky and funny), and he absolutely drools over her. And bonus, they are both cooks.
Viola is another small possibility but I don't think Sanji will end up with her - mainly because I think she was just a passing secondary character and we won't see her again.
If we don't get a moment of Sanji making a promise to Pudding (eg to come back and marry her) before leaving whole cake island, then most probably she will disappear too.Usopp and Kaya - I can see the baby already.
Robin and ??? - Similarly like Luffy, I don't see anyone as a potential for her. I see her as a sort of loner. She's very good-looking and so cool, and I see plenty of people pairing her with similar characters (handsome, cool) like Zoro or Trafalgar Law… these pairings look good but I sense zilch romance. But if I were to name the most possible potential, I would say Franky. Not likely though.
Shanks & Makino - Because Oda said the father of Makino's baby is 'probably that person'. Understood.

Well tbf, One Piece is not really a good Manga in terms of couples, ships or romance in general. That being said, a few ships I like would be:
Nami x Luffy
Robin x Aokiji/Zoro/Franky
Viola x Sanji
Koala x Sabo
Wanda x Brook
Boa x Mihawk/Luffy
Hina x Smoker -
Its funny going through this thread now, especially with there being a nigh definitive pairing with Sanji now
-
For me it will be:
Luffy-Hancock
Zoro-Tashigi
Sanji- Pudding
Usopp-Kaya
Robin-Franky
Nami will probably stay single or marry a totally non-famous guy, probably because she would like to settle down in her native island at the end of the adventure.
Shanks-Makino
Chopper-Milky
Smoker-Hina
Sabo-Koala
Coby-Rebecca -
Generally don't get into shipping discussions, but apparently I'm bored this morning…
Luffy - I have a hard time envisioning Luffy settling down with anyone, frankly... If it were to happen, though, I expect it'd either be someone new or it'd be Nami or Vivi...
Zoro - Tashigi, 100%. Going to be a love forged through combat, but I can't see either of them with anyone else.
Nami - As with Luffy, I have a hard time seeing Nami settling down with anyone... Honestly, I mostly envision her as being a hot single hanging around someplace special to her. Cocoyashi is an obvious option, but I actually think it would be somewhat appropriate for her to end up sticking around Fishman Island (or wherever the Ryuugu Kingdom ends up, should FI end up destroyed) and give the kids a "good human" to look up to.
Usopp - Kaya, 100%. I envision Usopp going back to Syrup village to regale the new Dr. Kaya with tales of his adventures, only for her to gripe at him because they sound the same as the tales he told her back before he went to sea, then Usopp inviting her to sail the world with him so he can show her the places he's been personally.
Sanji - I'm all in on Pudding. Flirt though he may be, but I can't see Sanji with anyone else, now.
Chopper - Probably Milky, but almost certainly a Mink of some sort.
Vivi - Probably either going to be Luffy or Kohza, but it may also depend on how the Reverie shakes out... Vivi being back in play (either with the Revolutionaries or the Strawhats) would give her more of a chance to meet people (well, interesting, plot-significant people) than going home to Alabasta and continuing on as princess and statesman...
Robin and Franky - There's always been a fair bit of stuff in-universe hinting at Robin/Franky, but I'm not entirely convinced... But even having said that, I'm not really sure who either of them would end up with APART from each other either... :/
Brook - I see Brook spending the rest of his days with Laboon, probably eventually taking over Crocus's post at Reverse Mountain.
Jinbe - No idea who he'd end up with, but Jinbe will probably return to Fishman Island and try to help steer the next generation properly.

Pudding is the only choice

I wonder if Oda changed his mind about putting romance in the series? If he did I'd only expect to see it in the epilogue or something like that.

I have seen everything from the One Piece manga to every episode of the anime to every movie….
And I really don't get the people who see Luffy and Nami as even a potential couple at all. Maybe if you took Arlon Park in complete isolation and literally ignored everything else.
But there has never been even remotely a hint of anything there. And pretty much every single story has Nami paired up with Sanji.
Whether it was the two of them against Kalifa in Water 7, the two of them against Absalom in Thriller Bark, the two of them being body-swapped in Punk Hazard
Or the scenes in both Skypeia and Dressarosa where Sanji fights an impossibly stronger opponent until he is nearly killed and ends up craddled in Nami's arms.
I think it was even implied that they were married or something in the feudal Japan stories. It wasn't explicit, but they were running that restaurant like a married couple running a small family business. And then the whole trying to get Sanji back from Whole Cake Island too, how she reacted when she heard he was going to marry someone else-- it isn't over-the-top, but neither is it remotely subtle. And Nami seemed kind of put-off when Sanji showed attention to Vivi or to Robin soon after she joined the crew. She often does or says things to draw romantic attention from Sanji to her whenever it seems like he is starting to stray towards anyone else.
Add in the fact that that even going to get Sanji back was 100% Nami's desire with the rest of the crew seemingly relatively fine with accepting his self-sacrifice or at least considering it a lower priority.
And also literally moments after Pudding decided that she wasn't going to kill Sanji, she saw Sanji and Nami together and was flipping between sociopath and sweet for the rest of that arc. She sensed out what was going on with a glance. But Nami and Luffy? Hardly anything at all.
One could just as well make a case for Luffy and Usopp.Luffy has shown way more chemistry with Vivi, Boa and Carrot despite having had far more time around Nami.
Now, I do suppose that compared to Zoro, Sanji and Usopp, Nami does rely on Luffy's fighting abilities more often, does end up being the damsel that needs to be saved more often, and does show more concern when Luffy gets hurt-- but that's primarily because the guys are trying to be guys and thus can't be the over-the-top emotional ones in most cases without undermining their "cool" factor. Even Usopp needs to be able to actually overcome enemies and fight on his own no matter how much emotion or fear he shows before and during it.... Meanwhile, Nami can get away with playing exclusively a support role and very, very rarely being the one who is actually directly responsible for taking out an enemy and get away with it.
So I really just don't see it. To me it is akin to someone saying that Goku and Bulma are definitely a romantic pair and dismissing Bulma and Yamcha as being anything at all.
Of course, Toriyama threw away the Bulma/Yamcha relationship because he needed to spawn more Saiyajins, didn't exactly have any other established female characters to use as a womb, and since Yamcha couldn't blow up planets and any step taken to allow him to still be useful when things had gotten so crazy would have seemed odd.So by no means would it mean that Sanji/Nami thing is something we can expect to be explicit in some epilogue where they might be living peacefully on some island with some kids they could tell the stories of Uncle Luffy still out there exploring the seas... in fact, there is no guarantee that Sanji is even going to be alive in the end chapter.
It feels like some Straw Hat member, maybe even a couple of them, are going to have to fall in the very end of the story to appropriately raise the stakes.
And the thing is-- Zoro going down after becoming the greatest swordsman in the world wouldn't be much of a gut punch. If he dies in a blaze of glory taking some great enemy and establishing himself as a bar that no one will ever be able to challenge to surpass, then he grasped his dream and lives on as a legend.
And Robin dying-- it just seems all too obvious. There has been precious little to even hint at what Robin would even do after finally achieving her mother's goal of discovering the lost history and writing it down and revealing it.But while Sanji said his dream was to see the All Blue, it seems very apparent that what he really wants most is to get married, have children and be a better father than his own was. So if he gets killed before anything of that sort can happen... well, that would suck more and thus would be what should happen to properly establish the villainous credentials of the last enemy.
But, they wouldn't be because of this supposed "relationship" that Luffy and Nami must have despite showing no romantic chemistry whatsoever through 20 years of stories?
I really have to wonder if it is just that the people who think this are just so set in their ways that "main guy and main girl are always a couple" that they utterly ignore the actual text of the story and impose some narrative they are bringing to it.
But across all of One Piece, I really can't find any of this supposed Luffy/Nami shipping bait while Sanji/Nami seem to be constantly paired up in story arc after story arc.
And even the recent story arcs where Sanji is lured to someone else, they both turn out to be semi-evil people who were only using him with full intent to do harm to him the whole time. He was deceived and ended up by Nami's side again at the end of each story arc.If anything, it is teaching him the hard way not to get easily distracted by other girls.
