We know for a fact that he piece by piece made Kuma into a meat puppet.
Put a positive spin on that why don'tcha
Kuma consented, therefore Vegapunk is the greatest hero known to mankind.

Kuma is a revolutionary and willingly let himself be made into a puppet. Why would he do such a thing unless the development of the Pacifista benefits the revolutionaries in some way? Just one of the reasons I'm a huge fan of the theory that Vegapunk will press a switch and all Pacifista will switch sides - as I said above. That would seem like a gigantic positive thing to me.
I agree that he has done sketchy things on the whole, and it all seems weird, but we are meant to believe that he is on the government's side. And he has had to do research for them, but I really feel like he has an ulterior motive; like the one noted above, mainly.

Kuma is one of the largest mysteries in One Piece so until all the facts are shown I will reserve judgement.

Hard to know how much control over things Kuma held. Perhaps letting himself be a guinea pig for robot army was a necessary sacrifice so he can achieve something else for the Revs. It's not easy to be a double agent.
I think Vegapunk is mostly a good guy, whose thirst for knowledge and new inventions gets the better of him from time to time. From what little we've seen, we can at least surmise he's not as bad as CC.

It could definitely be anything, we will have to see why he did it. He definitely have some motive. Come to think of it, he didn't need to be the test subject for the Pacifista; it could have been anyone and Vegapunk could still manipulate them so that he can make them switch sides at any point. From Vegapun's perspective, it didn't need to be Kuma. From Kuma's perspective, he definitely has some motive to have done it, but it could be anything; doesn't have to relate to the Pacifista at all.
Usopp, Robin, Vivi, Gaimon, Jinbe and random zombies are pretty much the only ones that were invited on just personality.
I'm super nitpicky, so I have to point out, that no one invited Robin to the party
Robin invited herself and Luffy was cool with it. They could have easily kicked her off if they wanted.
They needed an Archaeologist that can read the poneglyphs. Convenient. Sort of like a "I'm useful, I'm here now."
Robins cool love her.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The Strawhats will have someone that can guard the ship from within the sea. Just the thought of that excites me.
The water guardian, hmm, do the strawhats need a Scientist? Can't wait to see the completed crew.
Vegapunk seems like a little too much.
I could see him as a centrepiece in an arc and a potential defect to the Revolutionaries, which may have been Kuma's endgame all along. A person like that is too important for the world to be content with spending time on a small ship.

I have the same concerns, even though I'm slightly open to at least considering the theory just because of how Jimbei himself was a pretty major in One Piece lore and subtly built-up in his own right.
I agree about an arc centering around him. I wouldn't be surprised if both the Revolutionaries and CP0 get involved due to Kuma's inevitable character exploration, CP0 keeping track of both Caesar in the broker underworld (I still remember that Lucci silhouette) and on the trail of the Revolutionaries both at the end of Dressrosa and on Baltigo, and Luffy and Jimbei needing to meet up with Dragon and Koala at some point (along with anymore exposition Robin might need to give). And we can't forget Smoker and Tashigi with the punk Hazard kids, and Caesar still being relevant in the story. But those are just my thoughts.
The best I can see is some Vegapunk's apprentice joining.
Nami with glasses or something like that.
I still hope that Caesar joins after meeting Vegapunk in the Vegapunk arc. He will have a change of heart and needs to travel to learn more and more to surpass Vegapunk. And then we have an amazing scientist/character in the crew. I mean, if Tien & Vegeta & Piccolo & Android 18 & Buu can see the errors of their ways, then why not Caesar ;)
Topic change: as someone mentioned, with each new chapter I realize that Carrot doesn't really bring anything special to the party. She is like Usopp, and do we need another usopp (except that she is courageos and physically strong)? And Pedro (and Pekoms) get more interesting with every appearance AND they apparently have an intriguing history that can be fleshed out, as they left Zou at some point in time unlike Carrot who never left Zou. Carrot's special traits are: she is a mink, she is someone who wants adventure, she is a capable fighter and she is extremely naive. I wonder what Oda's plans are with her, because right now I don't find her particularly interesting.

I'm game for Caesar's travels with the Straw Hats slightly reforming him to the point that he'll be an ally by the final war. Especially if he actually helps cure the Punk Hazard kids during Vegapunk's arc (not that such a thing erases his misdeeds or anything lol). And I also love Caesar's design and his gas Logia abilities, as well as his unique crew dynamics by being a mad scientist trope. But being redeemed enough to join the crew? I can't see it, especially after Usopp's "Luffy will never forgive Caesar" speech. And we seriously shouldn't compare other series like DBZ and Naruto to One Piece's ethics. Unless the wink means you're joking, but you sounded pretty casual and honest lol.
Carrot is like Usopp? What? She's literally a slightly more courageous female Chopper lol. Every trait you mentioned about Carrot is found in Chopper (just replace Mink with talking animal), along with several more unique features. Pedro and Pekoms have history that will get fleshed out, but the former is extremely bland and also another swordsman, so he's out for sure. And Pekoms is a bit unique by having a Devil Fruit, but his personality and design don't stand out, and he 's still probably loyal to Big Mom and may be forgiven while seeking Bege's downfall as he plans a coup. But I do wonder what role she does play compared to how Pedro at least has a notable plot focus.
Caesar was forced to save people who were going to die because of him. If he was going to be humbled and humanized it was then, when he was saving mink kids. He's an unrepentant monster who deserves everything bad going his way, stop trying to redeem him because he already rejected it.

I guess the Chopper comparison makes more sense.
The minks will be a grand fleet member with either Pedro or Pekoms as their leader… or both.

But what about Inurashi and Nekomamushi? Are they just going to retire or something?

Not that I don't agree that with how he's an unrepentant monster that deserves the constant pain and humiliation he gets, but you can't expect any villain with any degree of redeemable potential to suddenly feel obligated to help random people when they have no experiences or reasons to change their behavior or grow a conscience. Someone who rejects a chance for redemption once doesn't automatically have zero room for it later on as they go through more events an form more attachments and such. That said, there's nothing to suggest Caesar is going to or should redeem himself soon lol.
I just find it a bit weird if he were to hang out with the Straw Hats all the way past Wano and still be the exact same person he was before without the slightest change (not that he has to get better, he could even become worse lol). Even if his SAD and SMILE experiments make his presence essential for the plot.
@Count:

They will be protecting Zou obviously

They might be the heroes that Zou deserves, but not the ones it'll need by then… :ninja:

Good job anime staff for making Carrot look like she has beard stubble on her chin.
Seriously. She had an okay showing in her first chapter appearance with that flip move thing, but otherwise… her personality has been Chopper. Like... exactly Chopper. She's even been paired up with him.
ANd Luffy's reaction to getting onto Zou was "they're like an entire island of Choppers!"
And Chopper can actually do things like change forms. And had his entire flashback and joining arc in this amount of time.
When Luffy (and Oda) make the explicit point of "Just like Chopper!"... why do you think we'd be getting another one?
Carrot isn't joining. Neither is Pedro or Pekoms or Wanda or that nameless deer girl that will be Chopper's girlfriend.

Don't bully Carrot
Carrot's fine. Like her all you want.
But she's not joining the crew.
Nameless deer girl = Tristan
Jajajajalulu, Jimbe dies must be the joke of the week. I think my temporal signature says everything that needs to be said on this thread.
(Note: Robby, I know we had the Bon Kurei talk not too long ago, and more than being stubborn with the idea, I am just a hopeless dreamer. Also Bon-chan > Baratie > Carrot > Pedro > the endless stream of insane options.
Oda very specifically had the studio cast Bon Kurei's voice actor to be Franky because he wanted that guy to have more work.
He isn't joining.
Carrot's fine. Like her all you want.

Oda-sensei, does Carrot wear panties?
Of course she does. WOuldn't do all those flips in a skirt otherwise.

Why are you lying, Oda-sensei?
Anime doesn't count for anything. They get things wrong all the time.
Though with that particular dress you might not because the sides show. There's ways around it.

Well considering Bon-chan was going to be out of the story for so long anyways, he could get a new voice actor…:3. I am joking, though I still believe it is a better option to believe in that anything else I have seen around here.
@Tamiel:

Tristan is the squirrel. The Deer is caled Milk.

Arigato for the correction. The point is, neither joins.

He certainly is from an emotional standpoint. But both his fighting style and connection to the Okamas is already represented in Sanji. As awesome as Bon Kurei was and refreshing Carrot is from the perspective of female characters as of late, the final Straw Hat needs to be unique and monumental in their own right when it comes to personality, abilities, design, and relationship with the crew. And with at least 400 chapters or so to go, I trust in Oda to deliver us a main character the fanbase and series deserves with how creative the other ten Straw Hats are. I just hope if they're completely new when they're introduced that they have enough screen time and impact on the rest of the story to leave a memorable mark like everybody else.
Cant even enjoy carrot as a side character thanks to "negative to me" realists in this thread. Im enjoying every second of carrot as the fun action girl because she might be the only female protagonist/ally like this for the rest of the series. _Maybe luffy will pull a whitebeard and send nami and robin away from the final war. O_k not really but im enjoying her personality / quirks / and design until Wano ends, guessing the minks will join that fight too.

This guy.
But that guy is 10th strawhat not 11th strawhat
I don't think Carrot will ever join the crew but I do like how she interacts with them and doesn't just sit in the background like certain other guest characters.
@The:
This guy.
I mentioned the ten other Straw Hats, my boy. Jimbei does not deserve even a hint of skepticism.
Speaking of Jimbei probably being a helmsman despite how little it has to do with his personality, I think it would be pretty kickass if he helmed the Noah during the final war for the salvation of Fishman Island once it gets destroyed. That way, being a helmsman may have SOMETHING to do with his dream of racial acceptance and unity lol.

This is kinda why I can't see anyone after Jinbei joining lol. Who can really make a splash so late into the story? Brook still struggles to make an impression for some people, and it's been 300+ chapters since he's joined!

This guy.
It is like how these guys from Whiskey Peak thought Zoro was the true captain because he is hella strong…but backwards.
