! I got serious "Franky beating up Usopp and adding to deep insecurities" vibes from this episode. Helps that Jasper and Franky basically have the same nose and body shape.
! I was thinking that tomorrow's episode would basically be the equivalent of Luffy vs Usopp, but the one-sentence episode summary on Wikipedia just says "Steven and Amethyst compete against each other while training with Pearl." I guess a fight to the death would be too intense for Steven Universe, although this episode is one of the most intense episodes in a long time. That first half of the fight sequence was just brutal.
Steven Universe

-
! The start of the Amethyst self confidence arc.
! Step 1: nearly kill a 14 year old
Step 2: help said kid improve his already not bad skills
Step 3: Make the kid up and admit he ain't his mommy
Step 4: Profit??? -
Man. Really good two episodes. Was waiting to see these two completely unspoiled for a while and it was well damned worth it.
-
If I had one nitpick with the crack the whip, it would be
! THE LAST attack sequence was off… like stevonnie jumps into the air and throws the shield down but jasper catches it horizontally and then kind of just waits for stevonnie to hit her, kind of felt slow there. And earlier on amethyst vs jasper felt really good action wise
! Todays was a lot better more kinetic IMOAnyone else feel the same, the show has been 50/50 on action scenes
-
Past 2 eps have been fantastic. Something about amethyst makes things get heavy super quick
Also yeah yesterday's ep had some cringeworthy fight scenes
-
! I like the Sailor Moon R like eyecatch with Steven, Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst, and Bismuth.
-
HOLY SMOKES
! Today was intense, like really intense. Bismuth was all fun and games 'till she decided that straight up murdering a gem was the solution to the war, a very machiavellian way o thinking about a war, but on a war against tyrany and in favor of the free will of each an every gem the means DO matter. At least Steven's comment about every new gem he knows trying to kill him before befriending him came true, although backwards. And yeah Rose, not telling the truth about the whole bismuth was a dick move.
-
! At least she didn't betray the crystal gems, she probably just tried to shater rose, and rose did what she did to the x3Ruby. I was afraid that she made the corruption weapon, sold it to the diamonds, and was poofed by rose shortly before the attack
-
! Bismuth's dark turn toward the end was pretty predictable (at least to me), but the build-up and conflict of the episode was still pretty great. Definitely hope to see more of her in the future.
! And I wonder if, with this, as well as some other spoilers I've heard about, may result in some third faction in the Gem wars. -
! So Bismuth got poofed and bubbled up because she was a nutcase hungry for power, revenge. That is the original savage. But I feel bad for her, I don't think Rose could have found a better alternative without alerting the others.
! Poor Garnet and Pearl lied to this whole time, even if it was for the better. But Steven by far has it the worst, his mom being the pacifist she was probably pissed off way more gems than she realized being Steven is probably on multiple shitlists lmao.
! But we got upgrades so yay?
! And this was only week 3… Ohhh boy. -
it reminded me a bit to much of the Troq episode of Teen Titans but it'll probably be cooler when she reappears later… probably
-
Bismond
! I think the conflict was supposed to be predictable, because why else would the gem be hidden away and bubbled in Lion? If anything, the notion that I didn't immediately trust her because of this evidence was the thing that made the whole ordeal more exiting. The whole time I was waiting for her to crack, and the whole scene with it happening surpassed whatever expectations I had.
! Great episode. It was mostly nice seeing Steven handle a situation all by himself without help too. -
Regarding predictability
! Yeah, I agree with Hiroy. I don't think it was supposed to be a real surprise. Not only was she locked away for awhile obviously in suspension in lion, Amethyst specifically said to Steven (and the viewers) that, yeah, it's pretty fishy that Bismuth's been gone for awhile and she hasn't heard a peep about her. Also, the whole part with them watching that show with the cursed sword of INFINITE POWER was basically straight up foreshadowing of the inevitable turn. I thought that the execution of it was pretty good and intense otherwise, as others have noted.
-
There was also this:
!
! Of course, back then we didn't know that Bismuths were strictly engineers according to Homeworld. -
! Garnet's eyes at the end man. Old wounds were opened for sure. Putting Bismuth up there must be one of the saddest and hardest thing she ever did.
! Also, I noticed since the beginning of the new season we saw Garnet less and less often. I guess one reason is, now that Steven matures more and more, he's learning his lessons all by himself without her hints and protection. Wouldn't mind another Garnet centered episode though. -
I was an impatient noodle and found Monday's episode "Beta" online. Spoilers for its content.
! omg, Lapis and Peridot have gotten so close since we last saw them. Peri is even making sure not to mention Jasper around Lapis and is like a worried little dorito for her water galpal. Thier artwork is also funny and dark at the same time, their friendship couldn't be better (RIP the alien doll…lol)
! Aa for the second half...woof, Jasper has been busy in her birthplace. It was kinda funny tho to see even her creation and exit from her hole was as intense as she is. Amethyst is going to have a bad time I'm sure -
Earthlings got leaked so be wary folks
(just a tiny musing from it, so don't click if you don't want any kinda hinty spoilery shit)! But holy fuck that was an intense episode, and I'm so happy I predicted the yoyo weapon thing <3
-
! Well my quota for Jasper's suffering has been filled. See you guys next season. And Smokey is nice, we need more Smokey. And as the more we know about the rebelion the more #RoseQuartzisaBackstabbingClod seens accurate.
-
! Love the bowtie.
! So fusion is possible with the other gems! Jasper is done and corrupted gg, and the Rubies are back? God damn! -
Dang, both new episodes were great tonight.
! Peridot and Lapis continuing to be great every scene they are together in. I didn't expect a new fusion to happen in tonight's episode. That was somewhat a big cliffhanger with the Rubies now back on Earth.
-
so here's my thoughts on tonight's episode.
! -so lapis and peridot are like the odd couple. Peridot being Felix and Lapis is Oscar.
-there was more than one Kindergarden? well the 'beta' title was a dead giveaway- Jasper came out perfect…big whoop.
- even with Bismuth's upgrade, Amethyst still can't put a dent in her.
- So Steven can now fuse with the other gems. well Garnet did say that he could do it in time...and that time was now
- Smokey Quartz owning Jasper...BEST MOMENT EVER!!
- somehow i knew Jasper was gonna try and fuse with a corrupt gem and she ends up getting corrupted too.
- wait...what did rose do to Pink Diamond and SHE'S JASPER'S DIAMOND!?
- and what those five rubies doing back?
-
! Smokey f**king Quartz. That was an amazing episode. Steven and Amethyst fusion was completely out of left field
-
side bar:
i was holding out for amethyst/peridot to happen but once i accepted that lapis was probably gonna be her first fusion, ship feels crushed me like a ton of bricks. They were just so cute this ep!!! They've come so far since Barnmates!! I predict that Lapis' emotional baggage is gonna be a hurdle later on though
-
Steven sure has grown up a lot since the Cheeseburger Backpack.
! the conflict with Jasper was resolved a bit sooner than I thought, but I have a feeling that won't be the last we see of her. Is the corruption something that only started happening on earth? It seems to be associated with loss/separation/isolation
-
! Smokey Quartz is pretty close to a perfect fusion, I'm surprised but it's not to be unexpected. Steven has been getting closer and closer to Amy so it's no wonder their fusion is a versatile one. Smokey's sunny disposition was a perfect remedy for all of the angst that has been happening and hope we see more of her.
! Jasper though sure did drop a bombshell though. Her diamond was Pink Diamond, just like Rose's…the more info on Rose we have gotten lately has deepened her darker actions. This summer has been a hectic one~ -
! -there was more than one Kindergarden? well the 'beta' title was a dead giveaway
! We know that since "It could've been great", but it is easy to miss, like most of the foreshadowing in Peridot lines.

! It's implied in the third centipeedle episode that the corruption was a departing fuck you from the Diamond Authority when their forces retreated from Earth and it would explain why Homeworld believed that there were no more Crystal Gems in the planet despite the Rebellion's victory.
-
! I don't think Rose was personally responsible for whatever happened to Pink Diamond. I think it was more along the lines of something like PD being disgraced/killed for allowing one of her subordinates to stage a rebellion against the diamonds
-

! Yes, but what is the trigger, though? Because none of the Crystal Gems are being affected. Or maybe I should ask, what is keeping them from becoming corrupted?
-

! One of the gems said Rose managed protected them from the final attack
-

! One of the gems said Rose managed protected them from the final attack
! To add to this, Greg implies her shield is what saved them
-

! Clearly the corruption is still capable of spreading beyond that, though, as it happened to Jasper. But I guess that you have to go as far as fusion to "catch" it. Supposedly it's a mental sickness, and gem's forms are a mental projection, so the corruption must spread through the shared mental state of fusion. It's just interesting to me how much the corrupted gems have seen preoccupied with finding each other, and they seem better off when they are.
-
! Yes, but what is the trigger, though? Because none of the Crystal Gems are being affected. Or maybe I should ask, what is keeping them from becoming corrupted?
! I think the corruption trigger is like the meteor shower from Day of the Triffids or the psychic bomb from Watchmen that only the gems at Earth in the moment of the weird flash without appropriate protection were affected. Rose, Pearl, Garnet, Bismuth, Lapis and Amethist were present in some form or another and they all appear to be safe from corruption. Jasper made a mental meld with a corrupted gem so it spreads to her.
! But maybe you're into something and there is a corruption lingering effect and all gems in Earth will get insane if nothing is done to cure them. -

! But maybe you're into something and there is a corruption lingering effect and all gems in Earth will get insane if nothing is done to cure them.! It wouldn't surprise me if at some point the corruption does start to mutate in a way that it is capable of spreading beyond the initial hit and fusion, and at some point might end up becoming a threat to Homeworld itself. Maybe fusion might end up being involved in what can heal corruption (if it can spread it, maybe a strong sense of self and love from sane individuals can do the reverse)
-
! I really doubt the corruption will start being any more transmissible than it already is. Remember, it's been around for thousands of years. I'm not sure it would really do much more for the show than Jasper's corruption already does. It's pretty clearly just the result of the fusion and the intimacy that that requires.
! As for how it might be healed? I have a feeling it will come down to Steven's mind hopping powers. He can probably, with training, figure out how to heal someone from the inside like that. I think that would fit in with things nicely. -
! I didn't write this in my previous post because it was tinfoilhattery, but maybe Rose knew the potential of corrution spreading and that was one of reasons to birth Steven so the gem-kind could survive as a hybrid species.
! The corrupted gems grow more upsetting as the knowledge of them increases. What were the mini-centipeedles that poofed without leaving a gem in the first episode? They appeared to be created by centipeedle but why and how? Were they created because she missed her companions and felt lonely? Like Cosmic said they appear to look out for others corrupted gems.
! The Diamonds waited for thousands of years to the Cluster emerge and destroy Earth, it's not so far-fetched that the worse of corruption would be in the future. -

I'm not sure it would really do much more for the show than Jasper's corruption already does. It's pretty clearly just the result of the fusion and the intimacy that that requires.
! It might not happen naturally, but I could see some attempt being made purposely to increase the potency of the corruption to have a greater effect or be spread more easily, maybe even to other lifeforms. It would increase the urgency of finding a cure - it wouldn't any longer be "it'd be nice if we could find a way to fix all these old corrupted gems" to "we better fix this shit now". Just random thoughts.
! As for how it might be healed? I have a feeling it will come down to Steven's mind hopping powers. He can probably, with training, figure out how to heal someone from the inside like that. I think that would fit in with things nicely.
! That's a good idea…sounds exhausting and time consuming for one person, though, considering how many corrupted gems there are. Like how overwhelming it was to try and bubble all the corrupted gem fragments. I think we need to know more about how the corruption works in the first place. It was broadcasted as a light, and they said it was like a song. Maybe there is some kind of technology that magnified a psychic power and Steven just needs something like that to magnify the reach of his abilities. Knowing this show, it might literally end up being Steven singing a song :P
-
! I don't think Rose was personally responsible for whatever happened to Pink Diamond. I think it was more along the lines of something like PD being disgraced/killed for allowing one of her subordinates to stage a rebellion against the diamonds
! Welp! You were wrong with this one :P
-
! Well, Amathyst is a better Jasper than Jasper ever was. And is our Ruby, the only one that has a functional brain? Lol.
Also, I shouldn't have taken a peek on the next episodes but I did, and while it doesn't seen to be plot heavy the appear fun. Especially Know Your Fusion. -
! Rose was a savage after all, Steven almost looked tramatized.
! Rose backstory finally kicking in. -
After the dry spell we had, this batch of episodes has been just what the doctor ordered. More, please!
Also, to those of you who watch the episodes online (especially using DailyMotion mirrors): close the tab once the credits roll, or risk being spoiled by leaked information in the related videos thumbnails.
-
Well, looks like Gems ships are like TARDIS's, bigger on the inside. :P
! Do you think Rose used Bismuth's weapon after all?
-

! Do you think Rose used Bismuth's weapon after all?
! No, because it didn't actually exist yet. Also, if Rose did shatter Pink Diamond (and Pearl's reaction seems to corroborate Rubeye's story), then her rejecting Bismuth's Breaking Point and murderous tendencies makes even more sense, since she knew first-hand what shattering a gem is like. Not that that washes the blood (shards?) off her hands.
! Anyway, really looking forward to seeing where this goes. -

! Anyway, really looking forward to seeing where this goes.! That would make the most sense, I just can't remember everything that happened in what order. Is there a timeline that shows where each event that we've learned about takes place?
-
! I wouldn't be surprised if whatever happened between Rose and Pink Diamond prompted her to have the Poof Only sword made
Lots of good stuff to parse these episodes; new plot tidbits, excellent comedy, and a whole bunch of character work for Steven, Amethyst and- at long last- Jasper. Regarding Jasper one of her lines from Earthlings really stood out to me, and foreshadows some major payoffs for her down the line:
! Jasper is ignorant about the exact nature of corruption ("what happened to you") and where it comes from ("This planet ruins everything. I'm not gonna let it twist ME!"). Meaning, Jasper doesn't know about the Damage from the Diamonds. Most likely, their scorched earth policy was covered up, or maybe even blamed on Rose doing some giant Kamikaze move. Jasper seemingly believes that corruption is some sort of product of innate failings of the gem ("we all get what we deserve") and the earth itself; learning that the Diamonds are to blame, and were willing to just sacrifice their own troops, might be a major push towards redemption for her.

! I'm just really hoping that steven doesnt fix everything without a hitch. Like Jasper redeemed, Steven can fix corruption and heal shards, can reason with the diamonds etc. With how the show has been making parallels with some of these to death and disease having nothing seriously bad happen after a probable large scale invasion would seem lacking.
! The gems being immortal is also something that seems odd, I get tey live thousands of years but them being unable to be ever destroyed just seems odd, I dont know about the shards being different possibly but perhaps they arent shattered in the same way or are brought together quickly.
! Mainly I feel as though we shouldnt get both corruption healing and shatter reforming as that would basically be plot armor for everyone minus steven as long as he is alright.Anyone else feel me?

! Also does anyone think , if steven indeed goes back to his gem form he'll change appearance slightly
! ( The writers stated he would die, but something has to be up with the words "bubbled" and steven told that he couldnt breath out of the earth's atmosphere, so essentially he can breath or the writers changed their mind because he's dead if both statements hold )Sent from my SM-T550 using Tapatalk

! Firstly, I think the shards deal is kinda like Kars in outter space, given enough time being unable to reform or to its conscience remember what itself was is a equivalent of killing the mind but letting the body live. Even if one could assemble all the shard of a gem and fixing it with healing spit I wouldn't think that what came back would be what it should. And corruption seens to me a mix o PTSD and a touch of Yog-Sothoth to ones mind, even if some can be healed the majority is far too long in madness to be brought back.
! And secondly, waht if, IF, Steven is in a bubble? That kinda solves the problem. -

Considering that the next episode is called "Bubbled".
I was only thinking of the bubbling that the gems do to the monsters / peridot / jasper not steven' personal bubble
-
! There goes a harsh truth to Steven, his mother was an adept Machiavellianism. Now let this sink in him let's bring the fun non plot based episodes for a while.
Let's just hope he learn from her lessons and be different.
