I came across this symbol, which supposedly stands for "hope". I think it looks pretty cool, but I can't really find it anywhere else and there's not much info on it other than that it's Hebrew in origin.
Maybe there's a knowledgeable AP'er who can shed some more light on this?
-
I believe the symbol you posted is a stylised image of the Hebrew word תקווה which directly translates to hope. At least that's what the artist claims.
-
Hebrew and Arabic like making art with their letters so it's possible but I guess if you don't know the language well you're not going to be able to see the actual word(s).
-
What's the best way to learn a language? I would love to use Rosetta Stone, but I cannot really afford it at the moment. Before, I was just trying to memorize random lines on google translate to help me. The main languages I want to learn is French/Spanish, but I also want to master my Polish, so I don't forgot it. So, Polish has more priority. So, yeah. Thank you in advance! :3

Depends on the person. Some people do well at self teaching (and there are sites for that for free) but some do better with formal classes, which you should just be able to take at like a community college or something. But that costs money. You could pirate Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur (which is more audio based rather than activity based like Rosetta Stone) and could probably find textbooks to download for free too. They also have textbooks or other language learning books at the library generally, or for cheap at Half Price Books.
Google Translate isn't very good for learning (and machine translation in general is far from good) and most languages have rules that you can't really learn through GT.
http://www.omniglot.com/ has links on each language's page for learning sites.

Hello, I apologize for being a nag, this is my third attempt to deal with an issue I've had for 2 weeks~ now. I tried contacting an administartor, and later a mod because my ip has been banned. Again, I apologize for not being patient enough for a response and double nay triple the apology if I did something to deserve the ban. Thank you for your help, I hope we can clear the issue, is there anyone in specific that I should contact?

O_O They will usually ban your username 1st not your IP if you do something wrong. My best guess is a terrible poster somehow lives near you? I think you can contact Foolio, he seems to be the most active admin around.

It's the rating of the thread. If you click "Rate this thread" at the top of any eligible thread, you can rate it out of 5 stars.

I was wondering if it's possible to create a free custom email address somewhere (like myname@customdomain.com). I know that it's possible to register free website domains (with .tk or .co.nf extensions for example), but I haven't been able to find anything useful about email so far. Does something like this exist at all? Or is it only possible to create a custom email address if you're also the owner of the corresponding website domain?
-
You can definitely do this with Google, as my website and work emails are customized but operate via Gmail.
Try this?

so i just sent a job application email with my cv and i thought i shouldn't just leave it empty and wrote the following:
"My CV attached. I strive for the best, and I hope to impress :)"
is it good? corny? if you received this from someone would you be more enthusiastic about hiring them
and how about it's punctuations? i'm terrible at punctuations. -

I've done the HR hiring committee thing so I know that some HR people may find that after going through millions of job application emails, seeing an out-of-the-ordinary comment like yours may be refreshing and get their attention, others may find it unprofessional. I personally wouldn't send an application with an emoticon nor would I recommend it. Also, "My CV is attached." would be better.

that is a major typo, thankfully it's only here and not in the actual email. i was skeptical about the emoticon too but decided to put it to show more enthusiasm, but i agree with you, it's not professional.

Is there a shortcut to posting videos as actual videos? So far I've had to rely on quoting and copy pasting

Isn't there an icon of a film in your Quick Reply?

The one on the far right lets you paste a video into it.

OK, it worked for me that time. Dunno what I did before, but thanks anyways.

Does anyone have any info on why some older (usually tactical) fps games didn't have gun models for your character? Doom, Quake, and Turok did let you see your gun (though at least Quake I think had an option to get rid of it) but some later games like SWAT 3, I think some of the older Ghost Recon games, and the older Rainbow Six games, all of which came out after Quake, don't. I imagine it's either to save on performance (though older games had models so I'm not sure about that) or to just not block your view with it being on the screen but I've never been able to find much info on this.

Why do some people keep their avatars and stuff when they get banned while others pretty much lose everything?

I have a new(ish) laptop that I would like to connect to my old TV. The laptop has an HDMI port and the TV has RCA and SCART inputs. Now, from what I understand, my best option is to get an HDMI to RCA converter and plug an HDMI cable into my laptop and into one end of this converter, and an RCA cable into the other end of the converter and into my TV. Is this correct?
I saw there are also cables with an HDMI plug on one end and the three red/white/yellow RCA plugs on the other. But I think I can't use one of these cables in this case because they don't "convert" the signal.
I don't really know much about these things, so I'd like to hear some opinions from more tech-savvy people. Am I making any sense at all? Are there any other other options that may be better?
Thanks in advance :)

Yup that should be right. There are also HDMI to SCART converters as well. I've never used either before but I have a feeling that HDMI to SCART might be better than RCA. Maybe others can comment on this!

Yup, problem is that older tvs only work with analog signals, so having an HDMI plug on one end and RCAs on the other doesn't convert the digital signal to analog at all, which is why the converter devices are needed.
You got this!

Thanks! I checked some prices on HDMI to SCART converters, but it seems they're generally about twice as expensive as HDMI to RCA converters (probably because they're better, I guess). Since this is just a small, simple "project" (and since I'm poor :P), I'd rather not spend too much on it, so I guess I'll just go with the HDMI to RCA option. I'm not someone who really cares all that much about high video quality anyway.
Thanks for the input :)

I was just talking to someone about this a few days ago. It depends on whether them not doing their job will result in you doing their work for them or not. In that case, someone, let's call her Judy, was doing absolutely nothing at a storefront type of job, and x amount of tasks needed to be done before closure, so my friend ended up doing most of the work while Judy did nothing.
The solutions we came up with were three:
1. Kindly suggest to Judy that they split the tasks equally each day
2. My friend does only half of the work, leaves the rest to Judy, and lets her deal with the consequences when other employees or the manager finds half the work not done the next day
3. Have a calm and collected chat with the manager and ask that they remind each employee to do their job without naming names -
I've been looking for a song for several months with no luck. The only lyrics I remember are "Jack we want you back" or something sounding similar. It was a very uptempo song that seemed jazzy.

Was the term "facebook" used even a little bit before the site launched for anything? I'm watching a show and one of the characters mentions a "face book" which is a book with pictures and info on everyone at their school. And the episode this is in came out in 2000, 4 years before the site launched.

Apparently that's where Zuckerberg even got the idea from.

Huh, I really should have found that page. I would have thought it would have been mentioned in the article about Facebook on Wikipedia but I didn't see anything about it while skimming the page.

my hard drive fell off a table and as a result it started making squeaky noises and eventually stopped working entirely.
i've read online that this happens when its needle gets damaged and stops reading. now my question is: can i somehow replace its needle with another one? i can buy a 20 giga hdd and take it from it.
the stuff on it are very very important to me, i have to recover it. i opened it up and it seems the discs are not damaged at all, so is there any hope? -
