I actually kinda felt the same way too. Though I would describe it as a solid series that doesn't hooked me right in. It does use a lot of standard shounen troupes but it does it well. So, I won't called it "mediocre"…It's actually a series I would recommend to others funny enough. My younger brother love it.
I dropped it after the tournaments arc (or in the middle?). Even with the spoilers around, I still don't feel inclined to catching up with it. Everyone is loving the series so much and I'm just "I'm not really getting it". Lol

I was kind of same but lately manga went into "starting to become solid read" with less fancy designs that I didnt liked and more of character and world building that interests me.

Stain was turning point for me. When I started it I hoped for series that will give me "The Incredibles" feeling and boy I was dissapointed as time passed but lately(again - since Stein shown up) it became solid experience that does not drop under some quality and has some peaking moments. Maybe its not same league as bigger series but with some more world building, new ideas and so on it eventually can get there. One Piece captured me after around 200 chapters in so what we have with MHA has big potential. You should at least speed-read through some more of this stuff.

What currently is happening has me hooked - in all departments.

Thos week's episode was really good I felt. It is nice when an anime and manga are running at the same time and you get to see how much progress a character has made.

Deku's punch through the building was very satisfying. And Bakugo's attacks looked spiffy.

The anime is doing great, but I was particularly in love with the manga chapter this time. Simply because the mangaka made Kirishima be the center of the move to rescue Bakugou.
Just as others here, I can't help but see a lot of Naruto in this manga, and find out the author is perfectly aware that Deku can't be the center of everything and can't do everything (on the contrary, there are things that would end as a complete failure if he was put in the center as we saw this week) makes me really pleased with this manga - and optimistic about its future. I mean, seriously, shoving in our faces that Deku can't be the one to save Bakugou because, despite all the shonen tropes and how much Deku wants it, they are not friends, is just too perfect.

Seems like Bakugo is safe, I feel like there's definitely going to be some struggling with All For One. I'd be pretty anti-climatic if he were too easily defeated.

Other than that I feel like it was a little hard to follow what's going on, especially the black gloop stuff and how the transportation and teleportation thing works.

Anyone else get the feeling that AFO is intentionally martyring himself to push Shigaraki farther? I'm sure he'll have some kind of contingency plan to escape/revive himself later but I think the shot of him protecting Tomura was pretty telling.

The other thing that caught my attention was AFO saying All Might had struck down his "comrades." Those aren't the words of someone who views others as total pawns.

So All Might's OFA predecessor was (probably) a woman eh? That's pretty cool. When spoilers broke earlier on 2ch I saw how someone pointed out the how the OFA users names go 7 -> 8 -> 9.

I'm just wondering how AFO will play into all of these connections being made lately… I mean since Shimura is seemingly Shigaraki's mother and AFO recognized Gran Torino as her friend.

I bet it's already a common theory out there, but I wouldn't be surprised if AFO had his eye on Tomura as a vulnerable pawn to mold in his own image, so he kills Nana Shimura (OFA #7) in some epic OFA vs AFO clash (after Nana's already given All Might some DNA), then somehow murders Tomura's father in front of him (without revealing himself as AFO), then rushes to Tomura's aid, playing the benefactor. Somewhere along the line AFO taxidermies Papa Shimura's hand and sticks it on Tomura's face.

That would set everything up for a big reveal and heel face turn by Tomura, making him join the good guys when he realizes who orchestrated his misery.

All the while, Gran Torino is a family friend of the Shimuras who looks after/trains All Might once Nana is dead. So I wonder if he recognizes Tomura?

It would cheapen the message of the shittyness of the world, all comming from All for One. Deku has been fighting some discrimination, and there's the subplot of bad powers means you are bad, while it is possible, why doing a Darth Vader with shimura would be special or unique?

I thought he might do a turnaround for a little bit around chapter 20.
But then it became pretty clear that he's most likely the final villain so I dropped that.
Him having a tragic past has always been evident, but that doesn't mean he'll join the good guys.
Though Izuku "saving" him in the final fight would be a nice Narutoesque message.

Not even close. Deku is the one who came to All Might in the first place (only to swallow a dose of reality). And he had to be very persistent in order to be even considered successor material.

I loved how All Might looked in panel where he punched All For One breaking his mask. One of most impactful panels in this manga for me.

Also all history that All Might is hinted to have has to come out as a flashback, it feels like perfect flashback material(volume long flashback pretty please).
