Fuck you, Gamestop. You only ordered enough copies to meet your number of pre-orders? I'm not in the mood for your bullshit.

I'm loving whomever they cast as Jakob so far. And yes, his LOCALIZED lines. A more perfect English butler there never was.
But I hate this map. Whatever happened to roads?

Fuck you, Gamestop. You only ordered enough copies to meet your number of pre-orders? I'm not in the mood for your bullshit.
I went to four gamestops within 5-10 of my house and they were all sold out and only one of them actually ordered extra copies.

Okay, so I never got around to picking up Awakening, but I have a long trip ahead of me soon and a couple weeks away from any of my main game consoles, so I might be picking one of these up.
I've looking into the differences between the two versions so I won't ask what the differences are between Birthright and Conquest, I'll probably go Birthright since I like the character designs better and it seems more newbie friendly. (The Conquest side gives me Suikoden 5 flashbacks. Which isn't a bad thing.)
But then the question is… Awakening or Birthright? I know it just came out so it must be hard to judge, but...

Both Birthright and Awakening are design to appeal to people entering the franchise, so you can't go wrong with either. Go by preference, or coin flip. Or Birthright so you can be cool and know what people are talking about.

I really love how the royals have retainers, and how so far each set of retainers really seem to suit them. The Hoshidan ones, anyway. I'll have to see later what the Nohrian ones are like.

Ehhhhh, they're pretty similar. If you want to be part of the discussion that's going to be going on right now get Birthright. But if you're only getting it for your road trip get Awakening. Both are good.

pats back Feel you bro. I missed a hit over 90% in chapter 3.
Anyway, I have some game thoughts.
! I am having a ridiculous amount of fun with this game.
! I really like how pair-up was altered - attack stance and guard stance. Attack stance is where the characters are adjacent (and can dual strike), but they can't defend you and the ally only does half damage they normally would. And when enemies get to do it, it's pretty freaking scary.
! Guard stance is the "pair-up" where you get the bonuses, but your ally can't attack with you. What if you need that extra damage? It all becomes about which one is better for the situation.
! This is not Awakening where you can pair-up two units, send them in the middle of the map, and turn off your brain. The avatar cannot solo the game with his/her spouse. And that is a very very good thing.
! In terms of Conquest, I found myself grinning at this one chapter - chapter 8. The aesthetic is beautiful, but you can't waste time. You have to go to villages to stop the enemy from summoning reinforcements, because it becomes very very hard to win if the map becomes too dense. And you only to have to beat the boss! I was lucky enough to get the best reward, which I needed.
! Also, status staves. Status staves are back <33333 Elise's Freeze staff was a total lifesaver.
! And I have died many times so far. This will kick your ass, but not because of it being a statfest.
Anyway, some unit stuff:
is a total bro. He's one of the heavy hitters. I do love me some cavaliers.
! This guy is honestly one of the greatest characters in the game. His lines "Such heroism!" make me burst out laughing. Totally using this guy to endgame.
! What a smooth mofo. Pretty good for an bow-wielding unit.
! She's pretty tough and good at choking (Conquest chapter 7 had some, very helpful). Unsure if I'm gonna use her to the end, but at least I've gotten used to the voice.
! What''s this? A cute af version of Donnel? I am going to make you into a total badass, little lady.
! Pairing wise I've almost gotten Felicia and my character to S-rank, with Arthur/Effie C, Niles/Elise C, Mozu/Silas C.
! Also sorry dude, but I'm benching you. Nyx comes at a higher level, plus I only really want to use Selena of the Awakening trio.
! So close to getting Camilla and her squad <3 -
Since I'm still waiting to play the game myself, I scrutinized the growth rates on Serenes Forest. Much surprised to see that Kagero is the one with the highest natural strength at 65 in the whole game (too bad ninja only gives 5% more).
Shame best girl Rinkah has such terrible growths though.
-
Played all day yesterday. Picked up Conquest and downloaded Birthright.
Great game, but even Birthright is much harder than Awakening was. Being unable to have double attacks when paired up is a big change to get use to.

Where are the reaction to how they implemented the children this time ? :o

! So close to getting Camilla and her squad <3! The battle system feels very, very different from Awakening and it's taken some time to get used to. Enemies using support stances is a game changer, and the 100% chance of a dual strike really changes the way you approach a battle. One complaint I have is that the weapon triangle effects feel quite small, which means the choice of weapons doesn't matter much and you're likely to get hit anyway. It feels like skills play a much bigger role in determining battles than other factors.
! If I had to pick a comparison for Conquest (Hard Classic), the closest thing it reminds me of is FE6 Hard, where your frequently needed to use two or more units two finish off enemies instead of just exploiting a good matchup.
! I think you're only a Paralogue ahead of me. -
As predicted, it's extremely awkward and obvious that something more was supposed to happen when you invite someone over into your loveshack, when then their face just appears on the bottom screen and they say one line and depart. I invited Odin and he said "ah, it's time for our tickle fight, I see!" and I knew I was supposed to tickle him, but I'm not allowed to.
Enjoying it so far, I really like how the knife weapons de-buff. Felicia is instantly the most valuable healer I've ever had in a FE game, because she can contribute on both offense and defense right outta the gate.
-
My question is: my l and r buttons are messed up, should I get this game now or wait until I repair it?

! I think you're only a Paralogue ahead of me.Yeah there's so many (new) skills to pay attention to, and I have been screwed over by quite a few of them. I would say that bows still kinda suffer being in the weapon triangle - you can throw magic at melee range and throw shuriken/daggers at melee range, but not bows.
! Hmm, Mozu's paralogue is the only I have atm. The second one would be Kana's recruitment.
Since I'm still waiting to play the game myself, I scrutinized the growth rates on Serenes Forest. Much surprised to see that Kagero is the one with the highest natural strength at 65 in the whole game (too bad ninja only gives 5% more).

Really, Kagero has the highest strength? I would think someone like Xander or Scarlet.
Poor Rinkah, everyone thinks she's trash. But she's A+ in my heart ;_;

Hmmm….you don't need L or R, save for switching attack allies when preparing a dual strike.

Yeah, I normally rarely use archers but Niles has insane speed, a thief's skillset, and the only buffed weapon I've been able to make so far. He's made himself useful.
And damn, Camilla gets shit DONE.
! Hmm, Mozu's paralogue is the only I have atm. The second one would be Kana's recruitment.
You know, the first paralogue was a lot easier than it looked. I wish Arthur and Odin could support because I sent them (and Felicia) to handle part of the map and I imagine their quips and antics were glorious.

Yup!

Oh that reminds me (another chapter's thoughts):
! Conquest chapter 6 was pretty intense. Not just for the mood of it, but what are your options. Xander is the only one that can handle Ryoma, but even then, his hit rates are shaky.
! Takumi-Hinoka are a nightmare paired up, but that's also because they give each other extra speed. Leo was very helpful, and Camilla's axe did well against Hinoka's lance. (poor Felicia couldn't do much)
! Anyway, since you need to gut 4 Hoshido characters…..Takumi and Hinoka are two, but which are the others? Ryoma will hunt the rest of your team down if you dragon vein the river (I did to get Xander downward), but Yukimura (protecting Sakura) will catch you by surprise and utterly shrek Camilla. It's awesome.
! Sadly I had to knock out the precious imoto to avoid the lobster lord.
! But yeah, I want to get to using Camilla ASAP, I heard she's a great prepromote. You know, the first paralogue was a lot easier than it looked. I wish Arthur and Odin could support because I sent them (and Felicia) to handle part of the map and I imagine their quips and antics were glorious.
Sad indeed, they look like they'd be pals. I used the map to get Mozu up to level 6 or 7 or so, and while using her for Conquest-Hard seems to be a death sentence, I'm gonna try my best!
-

! But yeah, I want to get to using Camilla ASAP, I heard she's a great prepromote.! Chapter 6 wasn't too bad for me. The Takumi/Hinoka combo is tough, but neither can attack at both range and close quarters. Rush and take out the first then tank a hit from the remaining one and it works out.
! I had Xander hide in a forest until Ryoma moved to the wrong side and let him blitz down and eliminate Sakura, while Yukimura killed himself on Leo.
! I don't really use Dragon Veins unless I see a clear advantage to doing so because it feels like cheating. Speaking of Dragon Vein cheating, in Chapter 10
! Takumi activates one two thirds of the way through the chapter and it ruins everything. Jerkface.Sad indeed, they look like they'd be pals. I used the map to get Mozu up to level 6 or 7 or so, and while using her for Conquest-Hard seems to be a death sentence, I'm gonna try my best!
I didn't even think of doing that. And now she's level 3 on Chapter 10 and temporarily benched because this defense chapter is getting crazy .

In chapter 8, I didn't even use it lol. But I'm on chapter 9, and I just realized Azura is supposed to sneak around the guard, use the key to get her weapon, then trigger the Dragon Vein for the acid rain.
! I spent 20+ tries just trying to get the right configuration to kill the guards in the front, but I'm not sure if I'll need it further in the fort. Clever putting an archer next to the boss, IS, because dual attacks hurt. And you ARE on chapter 10! So many people have praised its layout and feared its difficulty. I really can't wait, especially since I get three characters I've been dying to use since the game began (Selena, Camilla, and Beruka)I didn't even think of doing that. Sadly.
Also on Conquest, the Awakening DLC map doesn't give you experience (but you can support grind). I need to wait to do it, because it's pretty rough.

I never noticed them.
! I actually spent a lot of time trying the opposite strategy of slipping down the bottom and attacking through the broken wall before deciding it was easier to maneuver through the opening. As long as you can get one or two soldiers weakened by Felicia before the second turn it's doable, but as long as you're comfortable handling the paired myrmidons and rush of enemies in close quarters the stealthier option should be viable. Try luring the archers out farther away from the boss; I used a paired-up Niles to handle that part. Also, there are some late-spawning reinforcements that I think are proximity-triggered with no warning to watch out for. First time they showed up they ruined an otherwise very successful run.
! And Selena and Beruka are immediately adorable. Both are squarely on the team. -

! I could do the wall tactic, but eh, I've finally nailed the direct route. Thanks for warning me about the reinforcements, because I was taking so long hauling everyone's ass over to the front (and preparing for the paired-up samurai near the boss)
! Also I really really want to start capturing people with Niles, but I don't have a jail yet :( -
! Damnit, I totally had Chapter 10 in the bag and screwed it up. Even aced Oboro when Corrin blocked for Arthur and he one-shot crit her. I just stupidly forgot that the ballista are non-lethal.
-
So I made it to Chapter 7 on conquest, but it feels weird siding with Nohr the first time around. Like I should hear from the good guys' side first before picking the villians. Plus I feel like I might never play Hoshido if I don't do it now. So I downloaded Birthright. (Also because Conquest seems like such a bad idea from a logical perspective and they didn't do the best job of making you feel attached to the Nohr family)
So the question is should I try them both at the same time? Or just play Birthright first? Is anyone doing both that could share some thoughts?
-
I just learned that Rhajat's S support is the exact same with both genders, and that it goes just like Tharja's support route in awakening. I was actually planning to play as Fem Corrin in my first playthrough just to see how their relationship is, but I'm a little disappointed to hear that so I'll just play as a guy instead.
Which brings a bigger dilemna: Rinkah….or Scarlet.
My anticipation is making ask a bunch of dumb questions don't mind me
-
Poor Rinkah, everyone thinks she's trash. But she's A+ in my heart ;_;
Rinkah is NOT trash, she's my girl! She's my club tank!
Also, what is everyone talking about with Attack/Guard stance? I actually haven't paired anyone up yet, just had them stand with each other, because I wanted to have more units on the field.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Welp, suffered my first death. Poor Subaki, and fuck you, damn Kinshi Knights.
Also, anyone else confused by these class changes? My avatar reached level 11 and I thought, "Okay, let's see what other classes there are!" She only had Wyvern Knight available, but I thought what the hell, but when I switched her, I was still level 11! I then looked at what a Master Seal would do, and it allowed me to evolve her right away. I didn't care that much about the Wyvern Knight skills, so I thought what the fuck and made her a Malig Knight. Whaddya know, Level 1. Waste of a Seal, though.
But then . . . . when my Ava. reached level 2, boom! Strength +2, the first Skill of WYVERN KNIGHT. Why am I getting Wyvern Knight skills when I'm a Malig Knight? Will I get my first Malig Knight skill at Level 5, like I'm supposed to? The world has been turned on it's head.
-
From what I understand, without playing the game, is that you decide from the beginning what classes you can promote your avatar to, as far as their secondary class goes.
The rest is all somewhat confusing, but what I'm deducing is:
You chose Wyvern Knight which is still a first level class so you remained at level 11 when you changed to that
Then you chose Malig Knight to promote to with a Master Seal, which is a second level promote, so it went back to level 1
Since you levelled up Malig Knight without previously having done the Wyvern Knight ladder the first level up gave you Wyvern Knight stat increases (or is it still rng growth? maybe it was just rng growth)Someone else please confirm, because otherwise this game really is shaking up fire emblem into some sort of insanity.
edit: oh hey, apparently in this game they fixed that awakening broken shit where you went back to level one with each class change and could obtain all the class skills you want. So now when you change class you keep the level and miss out on skills you didn't get? Not bad game, not bad.

Nah, unless the unit is a level 20 promoted unit you can still get the class skills, for example if you change a to a paladin at level 16 and level up you get the skill you were supposed to get at level 5, level up again and you would get the one at level 15, you can buy skills in this game too(don't know how much do they cost though).
What you can't do in this game is mindless grinding like you could do on awakening, unless you get a new item that allows you to increase the level cap but unless you are interesting in the endgame online battles, is not worth it because the item is really expensive, and gets to a point that you only get one point of experience by unit kill(you can increase it up to level 99). -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fOTh2vM_ccfXgaUxcJHaqMdB4J-iY-1vmAV4xnpJ9js/edit?usp=sharing Behold, the master sheet for everyone's My Castle address. Feel free to add your info in. There's a couple of things to note:
-what does visiting another's My Castle do? You can potentially get accessories and items (berries, milk, wheat, etc.) for certain functions, and/or you can battle the team set up by streetpass.
-your units do not die in My Castle battles with someone.
-in Conquest, you can't get extra experience from battling, unsure about Birthright.
-The "address" can be found by going to My Castle, heading to the crystal ball, and choosing Settings/Info.
-It is determined by the 3DS/NNID itself, not the version. I own Conquest and Birthright, so I decided to check if it was different if I switched the game card, and it was the same address. This makes sense, because you're only playing one version at a time when streetpass/spotpass comes in.
-BUT I suppose you can always search the specific castle name if you're looking for a particular version.Chapter 10 is…..yaaaagh.
! I really love its layout, but it does not fuck around with you. My strategy is to have Effie, Mozu, and later Beruka handle the left part of the wall, while me, Felicia, and Silas handle the right.
! Nyx+Azura stays on the fire orb launcher (which seriously helps, shame she can't get exp from it tho).
! Niles+Arthur handles the right side with the ballista. Selena comes in to clean up the club users on the left vertical strip. Camilla gets to run around and shrek everything. For me, the problem isn't the spear users or the oni savages, it's the ninjas. Debuffing with attack stances is not easy to survive. The pegasus knights aren't too bad, since they seem to be more focused on getting past my line to the green squares, and some characters can one-shot them.
! In the latest attempt, I got to like turn 6 or 7, everything's cool…..bam Arthur gets hit by two archers in attack stance, and one 5% crits him. Jesus.
! I also decided to reclass Mozu into an archer….it's an extra hand for the other ballista, and I really can't wait until she S-supports Silas to use a marriage seal for something...y'know, lanced based.I just learned that Rhajat's S support is the exact same with both genders, and that it goes just like Tharja's support route in awakening. Yeah, I heard the localization kinda played up the Tharja-ness, I think people said the support felt more….sweet in the original. Oh well.
Which brings a bigger dilemna: Rinkah….or Scarlet.
Dude I was having this exact same dilemma. They're both so cool….Rinkah it is
Also, what is everyone talking about with Attack/Guard stance? I actually haven't paired anyone up yet, just had them stand with each other, because I wanted to have more units on the field.
Yeah, standing next to each other is the attack stance - your ally can't guard you, and when they dual strike, it's only half their usual damage.
Guard stance is the actual "pair-up" command - here they can't attack with you, but they will defend you.

Grr, yesterday Gamestop pulled the "we didn't get enough copies to cover preorders" line on me. smolders with jealous rage

Yeah, I heard the localization kinda played up the Tharja-ness, I think people said the support felt more….sweet in the original. Oh well.In the original, she showed insecurity about being in love with another girl and was terrified the MC would find her disgusting for it. I can see where NoA is coming from with this, they intend to show homosexuality as being completely conventional and nothing to feel guilty about, but it takes out a bit of depth in her character. That, unlike Tharja, her personality is a result of being socially anxious as opposed to just being stone cold.
Looking up the personal skills, the fact that Odin gets a critical bonus if he his weapon's name is more than 12 characters long is legendary

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fOTh2vM_ccfXgaUxcJHaqMdB4J-iY-1vmAV4xnpJ9js/edit?usp=sharing Behold, the master sheet for everyone's My Castle address.
-BUT I suppose you can always search the specific castle name if you're looking for a particular version.I spent a good while tooling around in My Castle yesterday.
The most important features of any visited My Castle are the food and mine resources you automatically get for free, which can be used for either small temporary stat boosts and leveling up Lilith or upgrading your weapons, respectively.
After gathering those two gifts, you can use any one building in their castle before it automatically transports you back home, though you can visit as many as you want.
Chapter 10 is…..yaaaagh.
Jesus.
! I also decided to reclass Mozu into an archer….it's an extra hand for the other ballista, and I really can't wait until she S-supports Silas to use a marriage seal for something...y'know, lanced based.! I had Nyx on left orb and Niles around the center ballista. Corrin paired with Arthur anchored the right gap while Camilla with Effie backup cleared the left. Silas held his position on the left while Selena and Odin took the right. Azura, Felicia, and Elise ran around facilitating while Beruka cleaned up stray pegasi.
! Speaking of stupid low percentage crits, I really hate Chapter 11. It doesn't feel smart, just really annoying. Selena got killed by a 2% crit from an Oni with a steel club. That one made me take a break for a while. -
edit: oh hey, apparently in this game they fixed that awakening broken shit where you went back to level one with each class change and could obtain all the class skills you want. So now when you change class you keep the level and miss out on skills you didn't get? Not bad game, not bad.
But like I said, one level up to Level 2 in my Malig Knight and I got the first skill from Wyvern Knight. I'll keep playing to see what I get, but so far all it's been is a waste of a seal.
What you can't do in this game is mindless grinding like you could do on awakening, unless you get a new item that allows you to increase the level cap but unless you are interesting in the endgame online battles, is not worth it because the item is really expensive, and gets to a point that you only get one point of experience by unit kill(you can increase it up to level 99).Huh, so when I level up to Level 3 Malig Knight I'll get the skill I was supposed to get at Level 10 Wyvern Knight? I suppose I'll answer my own question soon enough.
Yeah, standing next to each other is the attack stance - your ally can't guard you, and when they dual strike, it's only half their usual damage.
Guard stance is the actual "pair-up" command - here they can't attack with you, but they will defend you.
So I have now learned. My pair-ups haven't defended each other very well so far, but I heard that if they have stronger supports (I think) then they'll guard you better.

I'm already liking the Smithy way better than the Forge from Awakening.
I'm only so far in the game now, but does anyone know if we'll be able to build more or upgrade the rice field and lapis pool? I'd love to start a garden.

Oh god I hope so. I'm stuck upgrading bows and boosting resistance, of all things. Smh.

That one made me take a break for a while.! FINALLY got it done. One try, I had gotten past Takumi's little trap, but Selena had died to a dual strike I didn't consider. But the last try was so fucking clutch. Elise+Azura freezed a renegade ninja and Hinata from hitting my dudes on the last turn. (Camilla had offed Oboro earlier)
! If Arthur didn't dual guard me in time, I would've died. Azura had taken a nasty hit as well…...but seriously, this is hands down, one of my favorite maps in the game so far.
! Chapter 11 looks interesting, and it seems Azama has some sort of status stave?

Exactly, the gauge will fill up faster.

-
Yeesh, at the very end of a stage the boss just had to crit me…twice...in the same attack...with 7%. I love you fire emblem.
Does inviting peeps to your room without the icon even do anything? Also am I crazy or is Takumi extremely overpowered?

! Nyx and Niles got hit with it, but thankfully the latter offed Azama. He's kinda dangerous to just run up (and not pay attention) to hit, because he has Counter (wtf?) and gets another knockback ability if his staff runs out.
! Overall the chapter was kinda hard, especially the room with all of the ninjas. Lunging is very very scary when there's like four of them to pull you further and further in their range. Hinoka's boss room was clever, because any angle you attack her, you get a dual strike to the face, but luckily, Mozu picked off her guards one by one.
! Also S-supported with Felicia. Yay, a paralogue for extra experience! -

Niles and Silas paired-up tanked the ninjas, Selena with Arthur support basically cleared the right side of the map herself, and Effie facetanked her way through the samurai. And then Niles ran up and sniped the middle pegasi to negate the problem of dual strikes before retreating via Azura/Shelter shenanigans.
! But all those freaking archers with counter gave me fits early on. -
Noooo! Where are my Heart Seals! I need to switch Azura/Mozu into something new!
P.S.: Saizo has the best support dialogue. Especially with the ladies, this guy can't catch a break.
-
They removed auto-saving after every turn? Why would they do that?? I accidentally pulled out my SD card at the very end of a chapter that I took a really long time on ;-;

It's been gone since Shadow Dragon and the start of the DS games. The idea is that you just close the DS to pause it instead of having to turn the game off.

Speaking of…
I mean, I'm on board with the rest of the localization, but that's just dumb.

[hide]Been playing Conquest. As much as I love and prefer this way, I'm still so used to Awakening. I wanted to use every character, but I forgot that you suffer by trying to do that. So I've done what I used to do: Stuck with only my favorite characters. Sadly, I don't find myself being as picky with my characters as I was in the past. Most FE games, it'd be like, "You're boring. You're not as good/interesting as the character I already have. You don't fit my set up." But here? I love everyone.
Speaking of love, I recently found out that Odin is supposed to be terrible in this game, according to most players. And I kind of agree. His speed is terrible, he struggles to level even when he joins relatively early, and Nyx is far better. But you know what?
I married him. We have two kids. He's always paired with me. I use him AND Nyx (who is getting with Keaton). And when I play Revelations, I will use him, even though he joins super late in the game.
I'm actually at Chapter 17, and all of the 'parent' characters are promoted (except Arthur, I like him but the man has no aim… I'm working on him though. Married to Effie.). I'm picking the kids up and neglecting skills cause honestly, this isn't Awakening. I don't have the luxury of leveling everyone and giving them the skills they need.[/hide]

Dear ancient gods…
What's up?
