Anyone think Zoro might gain some elemental upgrades to his sword techniques?
Zoro wouldn't be awesome as he is now if that would happen.

True, not like the guy he aspires to beat someday uses elemental attacks. I think he will learn to cut the elements though, like cutting fire.
like cutting fire.
Just to piss off Sanji.
I would totally see him fighting a fire-related samurai on Wa No Kuni (or swordsman, whichever), and then having to learn how to 'cut' through it to beat him, like against Mr. 1 (Daz Bones) in Alabasta.

Like electricity ? it would be kickass if Zoro can actually use Electricity through his sword or send attacks with electricity!

Fire element is nice too, from Kin'emon, do you think other samurai use different elements?

(that signature… so disturbing...)
Other samurai using different elements is highly plausible. As Kishido mentioned, Raizou ("thunder" "elephant") would imply electric-typed moves.
We could even see wind based attacks (cutting air, how cool is that ?).
Man, I so identify with Franky's reaction. That plot twist made me tear up.
One think I am afraid of in this arc is the minks teaching Electro and their flying ability to Zoro (I remember him asking at least two flying guys how they managed to do it in Dressrosa, he was strangely curious about it and we know both Luffy and Sanji can already do it one way or another). The Electro part I wouldn't like because electricity is kind of Nami thing, she have many other abilities but it is her main offensive one. I think I prefer Zoro as a Normal-type 'mon.

He needs ways to keep improving and I'd prefer if he doesn't become a wrestler like kid and killer after timeskip. Remember Rayleigh literally glided across some distance to save him from kizaru? That was an insane gap closer and Zoro needs a gap closer or he will keeping chasing shadows like he did with pica. If he learns electro it will be a side ability, not so much a spammable move. Like Luffy's red hawk isn't used repeatedly and it's fire based.

Yeah right? that would be cool if Zoro learn of the two elements!

I hope in a good way
If Zoro learns from Raizou and Kin'emon, or another samurai he would definitely get something that will be prominent aside of the fact he is already strong with brutal force, something like a plus will be useful!
Cutting air would be cool, and Zoro flying is a plus!
Zoro doesn't need any elemental bullshit upgrade.

Agree! All what he needs is shining moment to show what he already knows . (And not pages about him pusching Doflamingo's jail :getlost:)
(And not pages about him pusching Doflamingo's jail :getlost:)
That made me laugh and I agree he hasn't even shown what he's learned from timeskip so no point thinking about how he will get even better. Everything he's fought has been a walk in the park.
I started playing OP: Pirate Warriors 3 couple of days ago and boy does Sanji have an awesome moveset. His manga counterpart should take some notes. :ninja:
Well Zoro is strong without any extra power but having more skills is welcomed as the right hand of the future pirate king.
Though i already hve so much respect for Zoro being able to level up by daily training so hard and swallowed his pride to ask his arch enemy to train him harder.
A little fancy element is welcomed, though i agree that Zoro didn't have a wprthy opponent to fight with all his skills.
Raizou screams about lightning, if he uses an element.
Raizou's element is the element of surprise.

What Zoro needs is a battle where he is actually struggling and not OPing his way out.

praying deeply my headcannon in which franky builds the duke a badass new leg (and nekomamushi, if he needs it) before the strawhats leaves zou comes true.
outstandingly touching twist. i adore the duke and nekomamushi. as an animal lover, it especially endears me to the loyalty and pain zou suffered to protect their friends.

Agree he has been too cocky lately, and he's kind of been douchy in general post time skip. With Frogman, Snowharpy and Sopranostone he's just been snickering and smiling the whole tims, I want hi to respect the strength of his opponent next, something like zoro vs kaku
Which is why I love him being shocked by carrot
It really shows how others in the series show the spirit of "nakama". It's not only the main characters who show they are willing to risk their limbs out for another, but the fact that a whole civilization would rather be nearly destroyed rather than sell out a friend of theirs. It also makes me really eager to see who this Raizo person is, and why is she/he so important.
I hope Luffy isn't going alone to get Sanji back but I don't know who would go with him, Zoro doesn't want to go, Chopper has to stay to tend to the wounded, Usopp wouldn't want to go face a Yonkou, Robin will probably stay if there is a poneglyph on Zoe, that just leave Nami, Franky, and Brook.
There's a hint that Carrot may tag along

Red Hawk is just another attack, one of some dozens in his arsenal. Electro is a technique, and it can be imbued with any attack.
I agree with the others here, he doesn't need any elemental stuff. It would be cool if he learned to cut more things, like fire (like Kinemon) or diamond (Jozu). Would match his doctrine "there's nothing in this world I cannot cut".
Flying ability would be cool though. Looks more like gliding, so it would be interesting to see how it matches against Sky Walk and G4.
that.

Well, if he didn't do it in Dressrosa for Kyros, why would he do it here? the recourses he can get in Zou seem to be more limited than what he could get in Dressrosa.

The reason why I said it won't be a spammable attack if he did learn it is because Electro seems like an inherent ability minks are simply born with. So it might let them use it limitless-ly whereas if someone were to be taught it…I don't think they can spam like the minks could. But I agree we can leave out the elements and focus on his cutting of said elements. I think his theme is more darkness and strange auras that will be brought to the forefront.
Great chapter. The Minkmen truly are great to see and read.
Where could Raizo be? Inside Zunisha seems like an adventure that the Strawhats don't have time for. Jack and company searched Zou up and down I'm sure with little resistance after they poisoned and restrained most of the Minkmen. So…what is left? I looked up elephants hiding and kept finding jokes about elephant hiding in trees which would be impossible...unless that elephant was a ninja.:ninja:
I warn...these jokes are...simple.

So Raizo has been predicted to be mostly be either a thunder elephant, nine tail fox mythical zoan user, fox minkmen, elephant minkmen, and/or a female. A regular elephant zoan or minkmen would seem underwhelming with Jack being a mammoth zoan. So I'll throw in another guess(if no one already stated this) that Raizo has a different mythical zoan fruit: Ganesha!
Quotes I pulled to support my random claim.
"At times the Lord Ganesha is seen holding a Vajratrishula or lightning bolt. The lightning bolt symbolizes spirit over mind and mind over matter."(Thunder Elephant)
"Also at Ganesha’s feet one can often find a basket of fruit or Phala. The fruit represents the world at our feet…there for our asking. The Amra, or mango, represents spiritual fruition."(Devil Fruit)

Zoro already uses wind like his tornado technique, wouldn't that count as an elemental attack??
Don't know what sword will Zoro get next( Wano seems a good bet) but I think the sword could have a curse that gives him a new power up. Like, the only way I can explain Asura with many heads and arms is if that's the curse from the sword he got in TB.
Now back to more interesting characters, I wonder what power will Sanji get next. What if his family or big mom gift him a pair of seastone shoes as wedding gift…

well with his haki now seastone shoes would help much

How is that a power up? Smoker Jute is not doing him any favors.
If Sanji is not going to eat a DF, then his only way to get power is kick harder and faster.
Zoro may get another black sword, but he will always have the sword from Kuina.

Probably has to do with static electricity, considering all of them have fur. Maybe a little Haki enhanced or something.
My next question now, what does Kaidou want with Raizou?

Raizou has a mythical/ancient zoan DF that Kaidou wants for his men.
Raizou is a very important samurai related to Shogun.
He only wanted to find raizou so he can tell him how to find Momo.

I really want Zoro to cut diamond, if he do he will surpass Mihawk who failed at cutting diamond back in Marineford.

With an air slash. Certainly not as damaging as a cut with the blade itself would be.
Haki kind of makes it a moot point. With Haki, you can cut diamonds, or at least a devil fruit user with diamond skin. If one wanted to prove he can cut diamonds, he would have to be dedicated to training without Haki. At this point in manga, it doesn't seem likely.

Well sure the attack is not with the sword itself yet still as powerful as using a sword directly.
Diamonds have the reputation to be uncuttable, not with a sword, and i think even with haki it will be hard to do.
Zoro said to Mr.1 he won't be cutting diamonds it would be a waste to do that anyway, but it would be fun.

We've no way of knowing how the air slash relates to an actual slash. I think some of the cutting force should be lost because there's no actual steel blade cutting into anything. And it should lose cutting power the farther it goes.
Notice I used "should" 2 times.
If Oda envisioned it differently, it doesn't matter. But there's no way of knowing now.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Was reading MP version just to see the differences and I noticed Zoro's expression when they realized the truth. He's completely stumped.
From how he's been acting most of the time since time skip, you'd expect his smug face, smiling in approval or something. This gives me hope there's still some of old Zoro in there. The clumsy part, showing emotions on his damn smug face.

Yeah we can't really prove if the attack released from afar is going faster to give more damage or losing power during the way to it's destination, though i think that for the greatest swordman his attacks are deadly no matter if they are from afar or close.
We didn't saw Mihawk fighting seriously until now, he easily wiped out Zoro at baratie and didn't fatigue himself much during Marineford either, we can't really witness all of his brutal force in a close fight.
Since Timeskip Zoro was more on a serious side or smiling, we don't have much "weird" faces like he did in this chapter (i won't count the nevulandia special after he got eye attacked by Robin) i guess having a weird Zoro from time to time is good too!
Well sure the attack is not with the sword itself yet still as powerful as using a sword directly.
i believe not , if it wasn't a filler i think mihawk slashed mr 1 and failed to cut him only a direct cut from the sword was able to do the trick

How long ago was Momo caught in Punk Hazard? And how long ago was Kanjuro caught in Dressrosa? If Momo were the only important member of the samurai group, they could have interrogated Kanjuro instead of Raizou to get the info. I think we can assume that Kinemon and Kanjuro don't mean much to Kaido, but both Momo and Raizou are equally important.

yeah i remember it happened that way in the anime
I was completely floored. In fact I went back and read the chapter again, just to take it all in. I get goosebumps and almost am in tears when I see how far the Minks were willing to go, and the honor that they preserved. Come Monday I'm going out and buying me a copy of Shonen Jump, because that's how much of a master storyteller Oda truly is. And really, there is no better way to go on break than with something like this chapter. Oda just keeps raising the bar and it definitely showed with chapter 816 today.

It seems it was only in the anime, i tried to check old chapters and didn't saw this moment.

I concur, Oda really did a great job. It was completely unpredictable.
I'm really happy at this revelation, as it seems possible that Raizo is on the island. Hopefully now we can start getting some info as to why they're being hunted.

Just jumping in. Mihawk sent a flying slash at Luffy and Daz Bones blocked it. Mihawk closed the gab and cut Daz's steel body with a direct hit. Chapter 570. Why it went down like this is anyone's guess. I'm of the idea that Haki can be imbued into flying cuts but Hawkeye just didn't at that moment. However we do know from Zoro's fight with Pica that the farther a flying slash goes the weaker it gets.

I imagine Daz was using armament haki also, making his diamond body even stronger.
