I didn't like the chapter at all.
The xmillion stupidity aside, this chapter kinda opened my eyes when people say the fight choreography and art of the fights isn't that good. It's prettily drawn and stylized and I did feel Deku's sense of frustration and anguish but the actual fight itself was poorly choreographed and depicted. I tultimately boiled down to a couple of dodges and a punch and I wouldn't mind if the punch was drawn well but look at this.
!
No sense of impact, was that even a punch or a swipe, we see the event after the punch has happened, we don't actually see the fist connect, the enemy is far away from the foreground and kinda small so we really don't see how the punch fucked him up. I mean compare the above with this;
!
So much better, you don't see the fist actually connect but you get such a sense of it, the villain is in the foreground and you see his face totally fucked up, you see the shape of the fist implanted in his face, there's so much energy, you can literally see the power of the blow spattered with blood even, the poses are so much more energetic and visually interesting, you feel the sense of movement of one person being flung by the brute force of another.
This may all seem like a bunch of nitpicks but fight choreography and physicality was important in this fight but this lack of energy and physicality was pervasive through the whole thing so it really made me far less forgiving of the story issues like the contrivance of the villain being the kid's parents' murderer or the x a million or even that a random mook can withstand a x100 punch and even needs a x 1000000 punch.
So yeah, not a fan of this chapter.
