Tomorrows episode should be all kinds of awesome
Oh boy oh boy want it want it now!

Since I got paid today I ended up going out and buying all three volumes that have been released in English so far. I s'pose the anime accomplished its mission.
GAAAAAH!!!!
I had no idea they were finally out!
makes a beeline for amazonOh and thanks

and I ended up speeding through the manga. I think the biggest flaw of the series is the bunch of minor characters that take up the time before the big fight starts and how long that time takes. Some of them are just really bland. It's a great Battle Shounen (eventhough it's actually Seinen, but yeah, parody that does that thing it parodies really well). I'm also sad Genos didn't even get one cool move during the Boros arc.
On the other hand.. the Boros arc. What do you even say to that? It's the best thing about DBZ fights, except heavily concentrated. It's also really funny.
While a lot of the minor characters are bland, the main ones are cool. Saitama and Genos are amazing. King's fun, Licenseless Rider is precious and needs to be protected. I like Fubuki and Tatsumaki because their struggle is related to their relationship and they don't become love interests.
Pri-Pri prisoner is a really awful character. It's the Okama Island stuff from One Piece and it's pretty offensive. I feel like next episode will most likely be one of the worst episodes in the series - the stuff before Genos and Saitama show up isn't all that impressive or exciting. When they show up is pretty great, though. Genos getting defeated is often played for laughs, but that the acid thing made me feel really bad - he's actually one of the few heroes who actually cares about what he's doing and a genuinely good hero.
Oh and here's Saitama straight up saying that people saying thank you to him makes him happy and gives him a sense of accomplishment. He cares, it's just not a "primary" concern for him.
!
Also, the 200 Yen, chapter. I love Saitama so much.

Spoilers for this series if you haven't read the original webcomic…
! The next arc's probably gonna be worse in that respect.
-
Aw, that's too bad. For some reason the series manages to make a bunch of really likeable characters, while also having a bunch of pretty forgettable ones in some of the minor reoccurring ones.
Saitama and Genos are great. King and Sonic are kinda fun. Bang's cool. Licenseless Rider needs to be protected at all costs and Tatsumaki and Fubuki are interesting.
I've heard there's more focus on Tatsumaki and Fubuki - I'm interested in learning more about them. There's already some hub hub on the representation issue (only two prominent female characters) and it's completely legitimate (as with the kind of character pri-pri-prisoner is), but the basis for these two seems interesting and I want to learn more about them.

Wow. Taking this from Reddit, but it's pretty amazing how quickly OPM is going viral -
-
What the hell was happening in 2006 to 2011 for Bleach being that higher that OP?
-
What the hell was happening in 2006 to 2011 for Bleach being that higher that OP?
I'm guessing it's that Bleach was just far more popular in every non asia region. Even to this day, your average person in NA is probably more likely to be familiar with Bleach than OP.
edit:
Just for fun I went to google trends and added Naruto to the same graph -
Kind of puts into perspective how large Naruto was globally when compared to OP.
-
That Naruto popularity rate makes me feel sad.
-
Imo, it only shows the manga industry is shortsighted in non asia regions or doesn't care much about selling's here.
-
That Naruto popularity rate makes me feel sad.
I cracked up when I saw how much it dwarfed both. OPM really does look like a speck. How bout you compare other trendy mangas like SnK?
-
Yeah, this week's episode was the weakest so far. The only stuff I really cared about were the small scenes with Saitama and Genos. The confrontation of Sonic and the seaking also looked nice, but other than that it was time wasted on fodder I didn't care about and I'm pretty indifferent about Sonic, too - he's had a couple of cool moments, including the fight against the seaking this episode, but out of the "main cast" I care least about him.
On the other hand, considering where it ended, next week will be a treat.

I bet it'd make you even sadder if Twilight or Justin Bieber were added to that chart.

This post is deleted!

Although it seemed this episode had a fine quality animation, it succeed in hyping the next episode properly, which is what matters.
Also, I loved the fact that Saitama was riding the bycicle together with Licenceless Rider.

I disagree. The action scenes were well directed, I genuinely laughed out loud at the Puri puri and Sonic scenes, and i thought all the side characters actually got to shine. And most of all, it hyped up the main fights with the sea king.
I'd definitely say this was a better episode than the meteor one, although to each their own. -
I just don't care one bit about any of the other characters in the episode except Saitama, Genos and (forgot to mention) Licenseless Rider, their scenes are pretty small compared to anything else. Especially don't care about the extra minor ones like the spear guy, lightning guy or pri pri prisoner. Last ep had tons of Saitama and Genos goodness and Bang was instantly likeable.
-
I hope they can stick next arc in anime.
-
Why did they skip the part where Sea King destroys the building with lightning guy in it ? It was truly epic.
Still a wonderful episode. -
My God. So much gif potential.

No offence, but that's really quite a shallow way of seeing things. How you can only care about it Genos, Saitama and Licenceless Rider, when time is explicitly given to other heroes to accentuate the comical-parody aspect of this series,is absolutely beyond me.
The whole point is that OPM is NOT Dragonball Z. The filler heroes before the fight are MEANT to be 2-dimensional trope hero characters, and Saitama can be blatantly contrasted to them with his down to earth attitude. Without the filler heroes, you would have no buildup, no worldbuilding of the OPM universe, no longlasting commentary of the superhero genre (through parody), and OPM would thus be a far less interesting series.
Are you really going to tell me that you'd rather this were just a series about a bald dude with invicible strength and his cyborg sidekick?
-
The side characters are the actual stars of the series.
See Metal Bat. -

I see you still have that drawing I did of Grunkle Stan. Mind sending me those drawings? I can't find them anywhere :(

The Anime changed the species name from "Sea tribe" to "Deep sea tribe" upon ONE's request, because 海人族 and 怪人族 (Monster Tribe) are both "Kaijin-zoku", and it would sound confusing.
ONE is involved with a lot of the anime change decisions.
Oh and next episode screenshots look sweet, and art direction is Kameda.
It's gonna be fantastic.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

OPM isn't really about Saitama though, it's meat lies in the "the world where Saitama exist". Saitama is really nothing but a plot device, much in the same kin as Godzilla and Dr Manhattan.
That's why these "time wasted on fodder" is actually the most important part of the story. Without that, OPM would become a mundane routine monster-of-the-week story of Saitama coming in and saving the day.
Which was fine for the first introduction chapters/episodes, but that leads to nothing but boring monotony. The story more and more drifts away from focusing on Saitama, and more on these "other weaker heroes" because it is absolutely essential in world building.
So no, it's not a waste what so ever. It's the meat and bone of the series, in fact. -

So no, it's not a waste what so ever. It's the meat and bone of the series, in fact.I agree at 50% . The essencial part of the story about Saitama is the pages about his ordinary slice of life routines. That's as important as the time about fodders and stuff if not more. We, readers, couldn't have that picaresque smile about all that world with out those routines.

Licence-less Rider stopping at that red sign was very funny.
Cool episode, nice setup for the follow up.

Whats ironic is that they cut off scenes that featured the fodders.
MH added LLC scenes to build up his moment that will happen on the next episode.

Yeah, the side-characters are definitely important and are a big part of OPM. I really like a lot of them - in the Boros arc there's the multi-headed minion evil guy that is crazy cool and the atomic samurai guy.. and Tatsumaki.. and Bang.. they're the side guys, but they're great!
The characters here just weren't interesting or fun to me. (also like the Butler guy and his companion and seaweed monster in episode 6, for example, to me they were boring).
With some characters, the series does an excellent job making you care about them (I was not expecting to care about Licenseless Rider at all), with some others not so much.

From Muratas twitter.
A little preview of what will happen in OPM Vol 10 extra chapter.
Poor Fubuki.
-
Btw, Is rain Sea King demon or dragon level threat?
-
Pretty sure he's Demon.
What I find interesting is that the messenger monster at the start of the episode - if I do remember correctly - was disaster level wolf. A level so low, anime didn't even mention it. That level poses threat to limited number of people. This is interesting because the thing was a giant octopus ogre thing that could easily slaughter a large number of people. Do disaster levels factor in heroes or something?

I would say he is lower rank Dragon level threat.
If his base form that was suggested to be vastly inferior(speed and power) he managed to beat S-class hero.
In his shrunk-back form he was going at it evenly with Genos.Btw, Is rain Sea King demon or dragon level threat?
He was most likely low rank Dragon level in his rain form if weaker form took down lesser S-class hero.
Ashura Rhino for example - in my opinion - was clearly Dragon level.
I wonder who would win - Golden Sperm or Asura Rhino.
-
So, King Centipede>Sea King?
Because Sea King seems too much OP for Demon. -
Sea King was definitely Dragon at his best. Stronger than King Centipede? I wouldn't be able to tell you but at his best I believe managed to edge his way into Dragon.
-
He beat the weakest S-rank and a distracted, self-sacrificing Genos.
! Actual dragon levels blitzed and beat an aware on-guard Genos. Yes it was more than one, but Genos was completely unable to do anything about any of their attacks. That was also after he was upgraded with parts from that G4 "machine god" guy he beat.
I think you guys are just underestimating what being a demon class means. Sea king is definitely only demon level, rain or no rain. For comparison, that Kombu Infinity monster was only a tiger level yet it stomped two A-ranks with no problem. -
Gave me a laugh.

うーーん、また遅れてしまいました…すみません。となりのヤングジャンプ「ワンパンマン」は27日中に更新致します。毎回お待たせしてしまいまことに申し訳ございません!
Chapter delayed until tomorrow AGAIN, for the looks of it.

Chapter delayed until tomorrow AGAIN, for the looks of it.
Whatever happens next chapter, Metal Bat is still boss. Faced two demons, went to fight a dragon and now will face Garou aware that he beat another S-Rank, and the guy still remains unfazed. I wonder if this "fighting spirit" of his is a secret power of sorts.
