So everyone is angry at the villians not following the rules? and not to the villian but the author? I'm done with this thread.

I actually like Shinomiya and Subaru when they were still antagonist. Their despicable action makes us go "what a douchebag".

! What Eizan did in the upcoming chapter just make go "That's just really lame". As i said, delinquent characters using underhanded tactics in manga isn't uncommon and i'm fine with it. Subaru was quite a delinquent character himself. BUT he managed to win 100 shokugeki through his cooking skills alone without sabotaging or riggin the match. Yet the author was still able to portray him as this stalker douchebag throughout the Takumi match.
My point is the author could have make Eizan to be an extreme douchebag without resorting to outright cheating. He's stooping below Subaru, his former henchman! He's also part of the E.10!

! I understand that Eizan only accept skewer guy challenge to use him as an example for the other students. He never took the challenge seriously and wanted to kill everyone hope of relying on shokugeki.
(I know Eizan is skilled enough of a chef but this chapter makes him look like an incompetent and a garbage chef.)
So, nobody will dare challenge the E.10. My problem is how this negatively affect the E.10
Instead of "the E.10 are too strong to beat in a shokugeki,we should just give up", it is now "the E.10 are a bunch of corrupted jerks who rigged the matches to their favour, we should just give up."
I hope one of the pro-Azami faction E.10 calls out on Eizan cheating next chapter because it makes them look bad too.

! Yeah, Eizan's actions definitely reflect poorly on the e10 who decided to side with Azami for whatever reason. I have to wonder what direction this wacky ride will go in now that we have the possibility a Souma vs Eizan match being dangled in front of us. The current most likely outcome(imo) of a Souma winning shokugeki currently would be Souma making something so enticing/mindbreaky that the judges can't help but taste it.
! Anyway, I'm still really not fond of Azami and his part in the story so far. He just comes off so… almost comically, I guess. It's like there so much effort going in to painting him as a really really bad guy that it makes him like a caricature of a saturday morning cartoon villain or something.

The artist is just having fun with all those demonic Azami imageries. I personally like it.

If this match get leaked out to the culinary world, his reputation as a food consultant is tarnished.
! On the side note, Soma nonchalantly serving tea to Eizan and his mens is pretty glorious. Soma also casually brought up the grudge Eizan have against him was pretty funny too. One of the more funny scenes since Azami came in to the story.
Isshiki being not around the PSD is highly suspicious and conspicuous…He's up to something alright.
! If Azami real goal was to ruin Tootsuki financially over some grudge with Senzaemon, i can still accept his plan. But it makes me question why would 6 E.10 members support him and ruin their future career prospect.
! I really don't know why the hell Rindou think Soma will be on their side and support this system. If she did it just to trigger more shokugeki and uprising, it's all gone now after Eizan's stunt.

I joke around by saying that Azami is actually doing this to get revenge on Senzaemon. He doesn't want to reform Tootsuki but to destroy it.
I'm starting to believe i could actually be right. Azami is part of this rich people community in U.S. He could have easily created his cooking school using investments from his clients and build up his school reputation. He didn't need to hijack Tootsuki.

I highly doubt skewer guy parents would be pleased to hear their son been expelled because of an underhanded tactic. It will utterly ruin Tootsuki reputation. Reputation really really matters for Tootsuki as shown in staigeire arc and mentioned by the curry sisters.

The right thing to do is like you said, try to bring media attention to such an underhanded tactic and coerce public opinion to reverse the expulsion.

That said, this is the same universe where a student got expelled for wearing too much perfume. It probably wouldn't be too difficult for the judges to justify their decision based on presentation/smell alone and to deny all accusations of bribery. Plus, if Eizan has such deep pockets I could imagine Eizan buying out the media and relevant up and coming chefs to side with the Elite Ten's story.

It'd be interesting to see if it's brought up next chapter.

@Wagomu. That seems to be exactly his plan. There's no need for diversity if Azami is planning to coerce his vision of cooking on the school anyways.

If I wanted some boring weird shitty politics story, there's too many other series for that cough magi cough, or even real life for that matter.

I have no idea why the story went in this direction. Dunno who to blame, the WSJ editors or Tosh? But, whatever. No interest. Just how many series have to go into politics/conspiracy/super-villain territory after a few years before you're satisfied, Shueisha? Or for that matter turning females into damsels in distress?

Maybe if Tosh handled the whole thing better, then the genre shift wouldn't have been so bad. But right now, nope. Interest is gone.

I do appreciate that the author is trying new things far and trying to spice the story up.
But sometimes it's best to stick to the usual story formula and twist things up from there. One piece does it well enough without people questioning the logic of the plot every chapter.
Trying to be too ambitious in a storyline may not turn out well…

Ever since Azami shown up, it has been nothing but almost illogical events and things that doesn't make sense. He's ruining the mood of the story. He's so a caricature that I can't take him seriously as a villain. He's even blander than white bread. He's a blackhole who end up ruining 8 characters for me (7 of the E.10 and Senzaemon for giving so much power to the E.10). There's not even one good logical reason why 6 of the E.10 are supporting him. Even the final villain in Yakitate Japan had a more logical and sound plan than Azami.
I believe that the author had planned azami as a character but he really failed to foreshadowed him. I'm not expecting Oda's level of mentioning a character 400 chapter before officially introducing said character. If you're going to build Azami as a major antagonist, at least drop more hints on this guy.

I'm rereading the training camp arc currently and that arc is so much fun compared to what's going on in this arc.

I agree. I prefer foodgasms and recipes interaction much more than a story about how to deal with the complex of superiority of some powerful people.

Honestly, I always associate it to the pressure of being the heir to the famed Nakiri family. She can't afford to show insecurities and have to keep a perfect front. People have expectations of her. Alice is part of the branch family so she can freely cry or emote as she wants.
Relating that one line to her past with abusive father and the foreshadowing of Azami is a bit of a stretch.

Even if I count that in, it's only 2 hints and not exactly substantial evidence. For a major villain, you really need more build up than just.

Seriously, Alice's dad literally has gotten more hints about him and we haven't even meet that guy yet.
In training camp arc, we know he's a Nakiri and he opened a research lab in northern Europe, his wife home country. We know he migrated his family to Northern Europe when Alice was around 5/6 years old.
In the autumn election arc, we seen him briefly in Alice's flashback. We also got to know the name of his research lab and that his wife is the main research head. We got a brief glimpse of him during Leonora's flashback and his name.

Well it's something different from what we saw until now,I can give it that.. so i can understand someone liking it.. but at this point even the protagonist should ask themselves if there's anything worth fighting for in the tootsuki academy atm… at this point the logical consequence would be to just go away.. there are other cooking academies and with this system tootsuki will not maintain its prestige for long.

lol. It's the same thing as ever. There is a major change in the plot of a story, then a group of people like it, a different group of people don't like it… and also there's one or two guys thinking they can explain the absolute "true" of the story to the others...

I'm really enjoying the current arc. I won't judge the "villains" before learning more about their motivation.
I'm expecting Isshiki to lead the PSD "revolution". Also, I think we will see a huge team match to resolve the issue.

Yes, Aohige explained it well. But his post is taking into account what we have seen so far. We need to learn more about Azami and what is he attempting to achieve with this, and then once we have plenty of info we can take conclusions and deliberate whether it makes sense or not.

As for the Elite 10, same thing. I'm interested in learning how that reunion between they and Azami went on. Eizan and Rindou aside, I suspect the other 4 have ulterior reasons that motivated them to vote for him.

Since all of this crap has started, the series feels soulless to me. Shokugeki is dead may hype some people, to me it kills my interest, the series was already pretty much a hodgepodge of shounen tropes from the getgo (student council for fucks sake), but at least it was fun and really played with the cooking facet. For gods sake, this is a series about becoming a professional cook, the main villain should be yourself, self doubt or not feeling up to the challenge or unable to innovate when confronted with other people with exactly the same hurdles as you, not some asshole that gets power the stupidest way possible and kills the soul of the series in a few chapters.

Ok, shokugeki is not an option now, so do we go for the super corny "OOOOH IT WAS SO AWESOME THAT EVEN THE BRIBED JUDGES HAD TO AGREEEEEEEEE THAT IT WAS DELICIOUUUUUUSSSS!" do we have everyone drop out from Tootsuki and basically have a completely different series now? Another political asspull including Souma´s dad and the old number one pulling some other retarded rule from Tootsuki to their advantage? Nakiri was also fine as a tsundere with a bit of a chip in her shoulder, now she is a delicate bud that needs to be protected, Christ! Riveting indeed!

The series already had a ton of characters, I wanted to see the Aldini´s get their shit together, I wanted to see other guys from the polar dorm get some time to shine and not only be decoration in the background, I wanted to see some struggles from other characters that just aren´t as talented as the other characters in the series (I loved how younger Aldini tried to get out of his brother´s shadow).

I´ll probably ignore it for a while and try to retake it again, but I´m getting the exact same as what made me drop Toriko, everything is getting too damn complicated for the hell of being complicated.

I had high hopes that this series wouldn't turn into the mess that it is right now but I had a feeling that an event of this sort (revolution?) will eventually happen when I learned that Jouichiro didn't graduate from Tootsuki for an undisclosed reason and when…I forgot which chapter or what exactly happened on that scene but that's when someone was explaining the immense power of the Elite Ten earlier in the series.

Well, it's here. I'll stick around for a bit and see what's going to happen at the end of this arc.

sigh I still want to see the overall outcome of that festival though.

Yes, pretty much the reason why I did not like when they broke the judge system by allowing one judge not to vote just to have that silly three way shokugeki.

That said I'm all ears for the argument that will convince me that whatever Azami is planning isn't consistent with anything related to the management/business side of this series. Cause I sure as hell don't see how his idiotic plan doesn't fit with the idiotic premise of this whole school being viable in any shape or form in the first place, or like the whole concept of the elite 10. So who am I to argue about if his new reforms are any sillier than anything that was before.

Well, to me it's not about consistency. (Tho Sunnyblue made one point about it before.) It's that cooking duels and foodgasm in the middle of a simple plot are funnier than the mad administrator-takes-the-whole-academy plot. That's boring compared to the other part of the story that it has been fun. But maybe something interesting will come out of all this new developments. So it's no about mysteries to solve, only about expectatives to accomplish.

And I don't think the 3 duels battle broke a premise of the story. Even more if that is breaking a rule, then canceling all duels is much more of that. But both moves are legit according to the story.

Let's not get carried away with the idea that management/business requires everyone doing the exact same thing at a school without classes, clubs, or a school dormitory. So basically, a school that has no structure that's actually like a school. So yeah, it's a fictional story and not everything needs to conform to a normal system, but there needs to be some semblance of something that makes sense albeit twisted (see: Assassination Classroom).

At least in the previous system it was all about kinda using competition as a means to bring about growth. Just because it started absurdly doesn't mean that the villain's plan or the villain himself can be taken seriously if it makes zero sense, even minimally compared to the series' internal consistency.
