I don't see how this one is such an improvement, though.
OFFICIAL 4Kids Dub Discussion Mk. II: Alabasta Disasta

I swear… Sanji may have a better voice in this Singapore dub, but...
He sounds like a pancy.
I mean, even David Moo pulls off a tougher sounding Sanji than this guy.
-
Speaking of kiddies hating to read subs, the same one who keeps uploading current dub eps says he doesn't want to watch subs because its like school and english is easier. Then he gets an ass load of bashing and flaming from others, ne XP.
-
Aside from some pronunciation problems (Luffy being the biggest one), as well as some direct translations that don't work too well (rubber may be a direct translation, but Gum gum sounds better if you ask me) that dub isn't too bad.
The voices:
-Luffy: Luffy's American VA may be bad, but this voice doesn't fit him AT ALL, at least the American one is kinda sorta close
-Nami: ehh, don't mind much, but she sounds too old
-Zoro: not too bad, but when he isn't talking in a low voice he sounds like some beach surfer bumLet's face it, Usopp and Sanji are really bad in English. Usopp seems to scream every line, and his voice cracks waaay to often. And Sanji has had a bad cold for the longest time. Almost ANYTHING would be better.
Usopp's Singapore dub voice actually is better, I quite enjoy it.
Sanji's isn't deep enough if you ask me.-Smoker: I like the American VA, he was one of the few 4kids VAs that work well
-Tashigi: I actually prefer the 4kids VA surprisingly, I didn't too much like the high pitched voice of the Singapore dub voice for herAs far as Sanji's cig being edited out vs. changed into a lollipop. I honestly don't know which I prefer. I guess I'd go lollipop because he still has something in his mouth, and I'm one of the few people who didn't go berserk over the change to begin with (cig to loli is the LEAST of the 4kids dub's problems)
Low production values aside, at least the Singapore dub doesn't change the story, artwork (not including cig) and music. That's my biggest issue with 4kids. It's not the lackluster voice acting, it's not the horrible script writing, it's not the rap song, it's that they have no respect for the original work done on the series and feel the need and right (which they really don't have) to change it all.
I wonder if there are DVDs of the Singapore One Piece dub, and if so do they have Japanese as an option for the voices? Since the dub already had subtitles, it might be nice if the hypothetical Japanese did as well. A One Piece dvd with good subtitles is something I've been wanting for a long time.
-
Yeah, forums across the internet are prefering this dub to the 4Kids one.
Which… I guess, it's to be expected. But really... This dub isn't too hot either.
-
The only real redeeming factor about the Singapore dub is that they appear to not change anything. Unlike 4kids who changes pretty much anything.
The production values are really crappy, the voices really aren't that great, and the translation and ponunciation of things is off in certain places.
If only some English speaking country out there could make a really good One Piece dub. Good on ALL levels, but considering that the only countries that have the money and resources to do that are already using the 4kids dub, I guess that won't happen.

at least the singapore one kept the original BGM

at least the singapore one kept the original BGM
Not to mention guns, no Navy (-translation, but that's okay), references to death and killing.
-
I prefer the Singoporian ones. Voices are no big deal to me, as long as there aren't much edits.
-
Yeah. On Wiki, it says that fans hail the Singaporean version for being MUCH more faithful to the original compared to 4SHAME version.
-
To the person who posted the English OP songs: Those links aren't working for me! It says there is server error. I really wanna hear the English Jango Dance Paradise!
-
Well, looks like a spot is still opened for a good english One Piece dub, and god help me I'm gonna pull it off~!!!
-
at least the singapore one kept the original BGM
Yeah, I guess, but…
Picture this:
Let's say 4Kids, outta nowhere, decided to use the original BGM... But left everything else the same. Same voices. Same edits. Same dialog.
Sure, with the original BGM it'll be better... But with everything else still crap... Well, it's not as if it'll be any good anyways.
Sigh... But I guess since this Singapore dub is nearly uncut anyways... That helps it immensively. It's just...
The cast and acting sucks. Moreso than the 4Kids version, sans our Sanji, I guess. But to me, even he pulls off a "tougher" vibe than the Sanji protrayed in the Singapore dub.
This whole thing just sounds like a fan dub to me.
-
Yeah. On Wiki, it says that fans hail the Singaporean version for being MUCH more faithful to the original compared to 4SHAME version.
It is more faithful in terms of not cutting/changing so much(from what we've seen, who really knows since they haven't shown any major stuff)…but it's not faithful in terms of quality. I dare say the quality is even below 4kids. I've heard better fandub excerpts. And Sanji does sound like a pansy.
I know everyone just wants to take ANYTHING over 4kids, but have standards, for crimeny's sake.
Cheech Gin FTW, though. -
Wow, this song kicks some serious ass!
Where is exactly is it from?!
I know its a couple pages back but I hate for people to get the wrong ideas about these "Eurobeat" One Piece songs. Dreamin' of you and Baby One, Baby Two are both SEB songs proformed by the artist Lolita. Done before, Folder 5's Ready and Believe. Kinda like Hinoi Team who is now taking popular Super Eurobeat/Euromach songs. I'm too lazy to actually time these versions, Buuhan1 has put up but I'm guessing they're the short ones from Dythims FTP. If anyone wants I can up the full versions of these.
-

Odex dosen't put out DVDs but VCDs (which are actually a lot cheaper), and they have both the Japanese and English audio. Not quite sure how you'd go about buying them though…
-
Yes, I've seen some of them. Google One Piece VCDs and you should find some. There are a couple at sensasian.
Now on a side note, I heard that they have lower quality compared to actual DVDs, so yeah.
-

XD u are asking the impossible XD
4kids-using the original BGM??! just impossible to imagine :P -
Anybody notice how similar the dub rap theme of One Piece is to Dragonball GT theme. Sounds like the same lame rap group
-
Holy frap. The dub "Dreamin'" is incredible. O_O
Darn you 4Kids for having this and being too stupid to not use it! >o>
-

Same for me. ;_; Is the site temporarily down or something?

Except that song wasn't a production by 4kids.
All I know is that they dubbed "We Are" adn then changed it at the last minute to the rap song, so they must have had SOME rights to the original BGM at least.
-
They found out fans actually LIKED it, so that's why they scraped it.

They loved to be hated. O.o
BTW, there's a new n00b on the 4Kids Forum who goes by the name protomanv3. Any of you guys? :wassat:
I meant it was a fake n00b. He was using a bunch of grammar errors, only he switches the letters around. For example for is fro.
-
Do you think dub Skypiea will be better or worse than dub Arabasta? It's Funny how the land in the sky could be going to hell
-
Morgan: Very good I think, however G-Force does a better job.
hell buuhan gforce does a better job as smoker, morgan, and sanji
Anyway I am like 2 pages behind in this thread so sorry if this is late but dubbed beleive is awesome

Roman I agree with you, except with the bad script, if 4kids used the original bgm it would be a so-so dub. It would be "enjoyable" IMO._

They had all the rights to the BGM, I think it comes in a package deal or something, because they DID use original sound effects, just look at "Fantastic Voyage", the Iceberg wailing SFX 4kids used was the same as Laboon wailing.
-
They never had the BGM rights, unless 4kids are lying, because they always say they don't buy the score because it's too expensive (because they're cheapasses).
-
I don't get something in the Singapore dub. Why edit out Sanji's ciggarrette but leave in Smoker's cigars? And yeah, if 4Kids used the original BGM, it'd make the dub a little bit better. Also, if 4Kids stayed to the original script a little closer, I wouldn't mind if the voices were bad.
-

Think about it this way, since when have 4kids been known to be the most trustworthy people? "There will definitely be uncut One Piece DVDs" (probably if asked about that he would say he was talking about the Japanese DVDs…) "I think it's because we are still releasing them (YGO and Shaman King) as cut versions, and we don't want to put the cut versions and the uncut versions at the same time. So we try to stagger the uncut episodes after the cut episodes have aired. So it's just a function of getting those things to play." Even Naruto's come out with more uncut episodes than either of those two series, and Naruto was licenced AFTER they dropped those other DVDs...
4kids is about as reliable as a virus filled computer, we cannot trust them, they had the rights, they just didn't use the rights, and lied to us to try and calm us down, but we need to tell them that we are smarter than that, and that we shall not take any of their crap. I say a follow-up interview needs to be done from this one.
-
But how are we going to get Viz or 4Kids to release uncuts, boycott the dub DVDs?
-
Well, hopefully any true One Piece fans aren't buying the dub DVDs. We can't force 4kids to release uncut One Piece, or uncut anything for that matter, we can pressure them to try to release them, but we can't force them to do it.
I'm saying we set up another interview with Al Kahn, one that will not harass him or his company in any way, but one that will make Al Kahn look like a complete ass. If anyone has any lawyer-like skills, you could be of use. What we would be doing is having a new interview with Al Kahn, ask him similar questions to the old ANN interview, ask him new questions, and often cite the old interview when he answers with a contradicting statement.
-
That's a great plan Throes. We can beat him with facts, then Al kahn-artist will have no choice but to submit
-
What should we ask him? What's his phone number?
-
@Nicole:
What should we ask him? What's his phone number?
Lol. We can't just call him. He's the head at 4Kids. We'll proboally just get some telephone receptionist instead… And even then, we can't really survay them.
-

Ah, oh well.
Getting an interview with Kahn could be interesting. -_O
-
Kahn has already been interviewed before and unfortunately, all his answers were all lies so dont expect much if something like that happenes again.
-

Eh, their point is to make Kahn look stupid.

Hahaha. CN screwed up for a sec.
During the second episode of One Piece tonight (they're reruns), they accendently put the [adult swim] logo on the corner instead of the "CN" logo, for a second.

Could only dream of something like that.
I remember two years ago when the CN logo was kept throughout Family Guy once.
-
Yay! Cinder's been catching up with her edit lists by doing the episodes she's hasn't done. Here's the first two…
http://opguide.bravehost.com/062/
"Ep. 62: Chasing Luffy"http://opguide.bravehost.com/063/
"Ep. 63: Oh Brother!" -
If One Piece was kept in its original form it would be Adult Swim material IMO. I cannot think of another way they can change the "Tell Them To Eat Shit" line without making it look rediculous.
-
I still don't think (even at it's original form) that One Piece is Adult Swim material… At least these days.
However... I think I know how the current dub will handle that line...
"Tell them... To not be so mean!"
Haha. But they'll proboally just change the line altogether.

Tell them to eat that award! >_>
Or… Tell them to beat it!

Nah, It'd be Toonami through and through. just with a few minor edits.
As for Smoker's line….I could think of a few...
"Tell 'em to eat crap!"
"Tell 'em to eat dirt!"
"Tell 'em to shove it!"
"Tell 'em to cram it!"
"Tell 'em to shut up!"
"Tell 'em to kiss my butt!"
"Tell 'em to blow it out their butts!"
"Tell 'em to....to...PUT A DICK IN IT!" shot -
They'll probably have Smoker accept the award.
4kids+character development=No.
-
-
Yeah, I don't think that One Piece belongs on Adult Swim either. I think 4Kids will either use one of TakinawaTonfa's lines or change it to something else.
