Maybe not recorded a while ago, but it's possible that Amazon Lily and Impel Down could have been recorded simultaneously with Sabaody, given the number of ADR directors this show has it's a possibility.

I mean, theoretically, if they do record things simultaneously, they could be working on the post timeskip stuff now with the strawhats while they record marineford
-
That seems like wishful thinking, but I doubt that the recording process would work like that.
(although, I'm not that knowledgeable about how process itself.)
-
The season seven pacing has to do with the fact that Funimation has generally released new seasons starting each summer. Of course, this means the pacing of each season's releases are going to vary based upon that. It is pretty likely that we will see the first Marineford set in July, maybe June.
And before people start mentioning season six as a counterpoint, I would like to say that it was originally set to be released in May of last year.

What made me really happy, was in one of the commentaries on season 7 voyage 2, Justin Cook said he's been having a lot of meetings about One Piece as of late. He believes it's doing very good, though had to be vague for obvious reasons. He did joke however that he was surprised it took nearly 10 years for One Piece to get this popular.

Hmmm… that's interesting.

Possible but less likely. As far as FUNimation has announced, they do not currently have any license for Marineford. Sabaody, Amazon Lily, and Impel Down were all licensed together as Season Seven, it makes more sense for those to be recorded at the same time. However I don't know enough about the inner workings of FUNimation, but I do believe they don't record stuff until they have a license for it. Whether or not the seperate arcs were dubbed simultaneously or not, either way seems plausible.

weren't there a few comments on twitter that Funimation is working on Marineford. I'm not sure if you can consider those offical, but it does make you wonder.
-
Not to mention that they haven't been making much official licensing announcements of late anyway. Everything beyond Enies Lobby was never officially announced, unless my memory misserves. We knew about season six and seven from a slip up on the part of Funimations PR department. And with the rather strong evidence of how well One Piece is doing for Funimation, I see no real reason why no licensing announcement at this point should be an indicator that they don't have it. I would bet pretty well on they already having Marineford and at least in preproduction, if not recording.
-
I'm pretty sure funimation has the rights and is working on Marineford, but they just haven't announced it yet. Lots of comments on Twitter and the fact that Mike just returned and the fact that they're usually a few sets ahead of the game…
-
FUNimation might be able to dub the show faster now because this is the first Season that has already been released as a simulcast, so they presumably already have most of the material they need. FUNimation has been known to dub based on unofficial copies to save time in the past,so it doesn't seem a stretch that they may have used the simulcast masters to start working on next Season's dub.

they made the Season 6 and 7 official announcements online:
- One Piece Sets Sail for Thriller Bark
- Bepo Fans Rejoice! One Piece Season Seven Is On Its Way! *and seeing when these were announced (Jan 2014/Feb 2015) hopefully we can assume in the next 4-5 months we'll get a similar Season 8 announcement
-
Both of those announcements were made with one voyage left to release for the preceding season, so I would expect a Season 8 announcement after Season Seven Voyage Five releases. Likely January or February.
I don't doubt they are recording Marineford right now, but I certainly don't think they'd be dubbing the timeskip this much ahead of time.

Ok, I guess my memory did misserve.
Still, whether or not an announcement happens, there is no doubt in my mind we're getting Marineford, Fishman Island and everything else.
-
Legit back-to-back Zoro avatars.
-
I assume we'll just get Marineford next.
-
my assumption is season 8 will include the Marineford arc till the last episode of the first part of the series, episode 516. Season 9 starts with episode 517 first episode of the time skip.
-
WHile i am happy with how consistent the releases have been, i am really hoping they are able to broadcast dub once the dressrossa arc ends
-
With some of the questionable liberties taken in a few episodes this season, I'm doubting that a broadcast dub would be a wise route to pursue.
A speed-up, however, would be a fine alternative.

While not impossible, it would be extremly difficult for One Piece to get a broadcast dub. The cast is just too big and on top of that quite a few of them are based in LA these days. Usualy broadcast dubs are done by people in town or near Funimation HQ, with only a few exceptions.
-
Yeah, last time a Broadcast dub of OP got mentioned it was basically "We're looking into the feasibility of doing this" which is as vague as you can get in that regard. It's obvious One Piece is a pretty big scope and no matter what that'll cause potential issues there.
-
I remember seeing claims that a broadcast dub wouldn't diminish the quality of the dub, but I really don't quite believe it. And as mentioned with the geographic situation of OP VAs, a broadcast dub doesn't seem like a great idea, as much as I would love to possibly see it. I think the current release schedule of every month and half to two months is going to be the best route to get One Piece caught up and retain quality.
-
A broadcast dub, in addition to the reasons already mentioned, has too much potential to lessen the quality, or slow the release of the DVD sets. Both at once is a lot of work. I could see a broadcast dub in a few years when they've caught up.
-
Ok, so a broadcast dub is something we've all agreed, won't ever happen. But what happens when we've caught up? Do we have a slow release schedule? Or do they stagger the releases even further so such a thing doesn't happen? This scenario has me curious.
-

You're assuming that's even possible. We're currently over 300 episodes behind the Japanese, with new episodes coming out each week.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but even in the unlikely chance that were to happen, it's still years away.
-
I'd love a speed up. One set per month would catch us up within two years.

I've kind of assumed that, if they ever do catch up fully (as has been mentioned, even at their current rate this'll probably be nearing 2020), that's when they'll break out the non-"event" movies and TV specials, releasing those while they wait for a backlog to build up. Then when there's a decent gap again, switch to a "one 12 episode set every three months" schedule on about a one year delay.
At least that's how I'd do it.
-
As far as how they'll release episodes after they've caught up, I think we should look at other ongoing series as an example. Most likely, they'll just do them in season batches. We'll get a season a year instead of two. And they'll definitely start going into the backlog.
-

Nah, they'll definitely catch up at some point. Josh himself said as much in one of the OPP episodes. It's just that at the rate we're going at now that'll be about 5 years. And of course "catch up" wouldn't mean them literally being at the precise episode count that the Japanese are at for their weekly releases or even DVD/Blu-ray sets, but as close as they'd be allowed to go like in Fairy Tail (which is about 1 or 2 sets behind right now).

I'll say this much, when we do start to catch up I might take a break from buying sets when we reach Fish Man Island. I just really don't like that arc. I'll all for supporting the dub, but I just can't see myself buying episodes I don't like.
I know some of you like Fish Man Island so I don't mean to mock it, this is simply my personal opinion.

This. And I think Fairy Tail is a good example in this regard. Of course, adjustments should be made given Toei's reverse importation fears.

It's not just Toei. It's every countries fear of reverse importation fears. There's a reason why America is the most likely county to ever commit war on any nation. Even the Middle East itself. It also involves some political power as well. But I will not derail the conversation for One Piece. So to put it shortly. American WW3, other countries nope.
-
Joel Mcdonald out right said on the commentary, that he cast Matthew Mercer as Law because he's listening to the fans. Dam it, Joel just went up a few points in the awesome book, IMO
-
Upon catching up I see the two best routes to go being either, releasing sets eight or so months after Japanese broadcast (Japanese sets release about five-six months after broadcast), or start dubbing an arc/season after it finishes in the Japanese broadcast. Both ways would average the sets to come out at the same rate.
-

Not sure I can buy that too heavily. And I'm not talking about the global political assessment, which is way off the mark. Kodansha hasn't shown too much worry where Fairy Tail is concerned, and with Blu-rays, I might add. Fairy Tail may not be as popular as One Piece, but it's up there. Funimation is only about 40-50 episodes behind the simulcast with the release of part 18. This would suggest that reverse importation may not be the concern that it's made out to be.

Listening to the fandom can end up being a double edged sword. Needs to be handled carefully. I would like to note them putting nakama on the back blurb of S5v2 as an example of why that was a bad thing.

Yeah. But the dubbing rights for the songs on the other hand?

Not looking good in my eyes. :(

Well, the dubbing rights for the openings/endings are a whole different issue. Funimation wanted them. And it may not even be Toei that was the holdouts.

Yeah. I think it's the music label that's causing trouble for them. I'm surprised anonymous didn't go after them for that. Remember when they told Japan to stop killing the Dolphins and whales?

Yes. Like fighting Isis (now known as the ISIL.) pedophiles and corrupt politicians.

I respect a group like anonymity to stop evil from spreading to our poor kids and teenagers who looked up to bad influences.
I can never do what they did in 10 years.

What does any of this have to do with One Piece?

Nothing I guess? It was an off topic discussion from Japan being xenophobic to anonymous kicking some ass and taking names. lol
We'll go back to talking to One Piece now. Sorry MasterKingJC?
-
Its kind of hard to compare Fairy Tail with One Piece because if Funi keeps releasing Fairy Tail every other month they should be caught up by sometime in 2017, while One Piece won't catch up until 2020, but we all know its not funimation fault as to what happen with One Piece since they got it so late in the game, i wish they had secured it first over 4kids who only ended up tarnishing the anime
-
Looking back at it, the OP license rescue was announced Apr 13, 2007 (Japan was just getting ready to air Ep 305, Shivering Past! Dark Justice and Rob Lucci!). 4Kids acquired it around Ep 195, Off to the Blue Sea!! A Heartfelt Finale!!
so really, IF we had gotten this journey off on the right foot, at best guesstimate we'd probably be getting Punk Hazard dubbed eps on dvd right now instead of Sabaody (though FUNi might have been even further along than that)
-
This might be a sneak peek at the S7V4 cover

Nice. Thank you funimation.

I'm thinking after they get caught up to a certain point, it'll be okay to start the simuldub. They'll still be releasing and dubbing the episodes at a comfortable pace, but the DVDs will be a bit behind due to importation.
The trick is, say they have to stop the DVDs at hypothetical episode 700, but the sub is, at that point, at episode 720. When they start the simildub, will the episodes between those two points just be missing for a few months? Sounds like they'd have to finagle some sort of weird deal to dub old episodes and post them online right before the simuldub so that some dub only fans don't miss any content.

Great idea. Hopefully Funimation will Announce something at their next panel in New York Comic Con. Which speaking of which? My sister has gotten tickets for the two of us to go to New York City and meet the guys who made the dubs for One Piece, Attack on Titan, etc.
If they don't budge. I'll tell someone in the panel to record a video of me asking them questions about the rights to future One Piece stuff and possibly ask them if aliens will one day come to earth and they were fans of anime as much as we are fans of UFO's?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I know it seems weird for me to say this? But I have to ask them if they'd be fine with humans and aliens getting along together.

Funimation has made it clear that New York City will be all about their number one franchise Dragon Ball

lol True. But we can always ask about other anime behind the scenes?
