I thought this episode was fairly good. It had the joke about Yamcha claiming to be one of the best fighters.
Also, it got the wives together to talk about their husbands…..or one line from Bulma about Vegeta anyway.

They're all good for getting your fix as you go, but can be retty lackluster in hindsigh once you see what future things the series holds. For instance, seeing a Super Saiyan is a major thing originally, and its impressive to see several of them, or a giant spirit bomb when you've only seen the one used on Vegeta, or Vegeta splitting a mountaiqn in half to make an epic entrance… and entire movie premises are built around how COOL that is... but once your used to its its nothing.
In general the Dragonabll movies are pretty fun, while the Z movies are pretty repetitive and mostly only decent if you watch them around the timeframe in the series they would have come out.

One thing I'm wondering about though: Does any of them have second acts?
Not really, since the run time is so short, most of the movies are only 45 minutes, including credits. Movie 8 with Broli is longer so it has time for some depth, and movie 13 gets some young Trunks time in. Otherwise they're mostly content for the characters to be a little goofy at the start before the threat shows up.
You're gonna scorn me now, but the above musings have made the original Broly movie look the most appealing to me.
The first Broli movie is pretty epic, and a decent character study on Vegeta, and a truly intimidating threat as just a berserk force of nature…. and some great moments and lines (in fansub anyway) and Paragas is an interesting foil that sort of makes up for how lackluster his son actually is. But it loses a lot once you know Super 2 and 3 are forthcoming, and Broli becomes a complete joke in movies 10 and 11 and runs an already thin character into utterly dumb.
I watched that movie a LOT on bootleg tape, along with movies 5, 6 and 7... before american tv had even finished Frieza, so the entire SUper Saiyan thing was still fresh and special and epic to me.
Post Cell and Buu... not so much.

Ugh. i so looked forward to the dub and then they added awful music to it that ruined everything. They generally added awful music to the dub, but especially in the movies where they actually spent money and licensed completely innapropriate songs like that.
Have I mentioned that I hate Dokkan Battle. It can go to hell.

I noticed on the zoom-ins on Earth that Florida was completely gone. I suppose Bugs Bunny succeeded in sawing it off in this 'verse, or that was the chunk of land that Vegeta vaporized with his Final Flash.

Broli really ISN'T a character, he's a mindless monster. I've spoken about this before in other places, here's my assessment of the movie:
Movie 8 is basically a monster movie where the point is that Paragas is the actual villain who has the actual motivation, Broli is just his mindless pawn that is supposed to do his bidding and help get that done, but a combination of factors (His Craziness plus him hating Goku because Goku made him CRY as a baby, no kidding) cause Paragas to lose control and everyone has to deal with this rampaging monster that is unleashed as a result.
Honestly, I'm gonna preface this by saying this is just my opinion based on my interpretation of events, and is in no way supposed to be a fact, but I think Movie 8's plot is basically a result of the DB/Z Film series' tendency for its films, at least the majority of them, to just be remixed rehashes of prior arcs. Movies 1-2 are original enough, but 3 is the Saiyan arc again, 4 is the Piccolo Daimao and Jr. Arcs, Movies 5-6 is Freeza, Movie 7 is a more original take on the Cyborgs, and I honestly think Movie 8 is a more straight forward take on the Cyborgs with different window dressing, while movie 9 is obviously the Cell games.
Think about movie 8 real quick. Guy (Paragas/Gero) with a reason to hate a member of the main cast (Vegeta/Goku) tries to sick a pawn that's supposed to be completely under his control (Broli/The Cyborgs) on them. That plan goes awry however when the pawn(s) go rogue, kill the main guy and go on a rampage/killing spree that is, at least at first directed at killing Goku for their own reasons (He made him cry as a Baby/16 is programmed to and can't or won't do anything else until Goku is dead)
I give movies 8 and 9 props for the villains being more original in their designs instead of just being a reskinned version of the villain from the original arc they were from, but the plot points are all basically the same.

"I hated you since childhood and your very existence annoys me because I was mentally scarred and screwed up by the Saiyans trying to murder me in my crib and then surviving the explosion of the planet and my father has been using midn control to temper my violence for my entire life and is afraid of me" is far better than a lot of the other villains. The entire subplot between him and his father alone actually makes him among the more complex villains.
"I want to come to this far off planet int he middle of nowhere to conquer… of course!" which is at least six of the movie villains,. Most of the androids were nothing more than "I want to kill Goku. Because." Cell was completely bland "I just want to show that I'm perfect". Buu was all about just eating, or just destruction, depending on the form... Bojack had zero personality whatsoever and is mostly remembered for having a female minion. Janemba was just dumb baby of destruction followed by generic devil of destruction... and Hildegarn was just a giant walking godzilla monster with zero personality or dialogue.
Now, the follow up movies ruin whatever Broli did have, no argument, without Paragas and as just a mindless revenge machine he sucked. But in 8 at least he had some interesting qualities, some motivation, and a sense of being a pure force of nature. The follow up movies degraded it to pure bland rage, but in movie 8 at least its personal and self centered, and its not the worst.

I mean, his specific hate of Goku is the dumb thing. Like, it'd have been better if the crying scene had been omitted and he was just blindly mad at ALL Saiyans, Vegeta, Gohan and Trunks included, due to what happened to him. The fact that he dials into Goku specifically is the dumbest thing ever because it's ENTIRELY motivated by "You made me cry when I was one day old, baaaaaaaaaawwww".
I get that all these other factors contributed to Broli's mental state and literally drove him mad, so he's not exactly in his right mind to begin with, but the fact that he not only somehow remembers Goku despite them meeting only on the day of their birth because he made Broli CRY is the dumbest thing ever.
Maybe it goes back to The unfortunate trend of making Goku the center of attention most of the time, so you can't have other people be involved? I think, for example, him seeing Vegeta who is the spitting image of his father, and freaking out over that would have been more powerful and made for a better character.
But no, his freakout, the thing that makes him break his mind control was ENTIRELY caused by "Baaaaaaaw, you made me cry when we were a day old"

I like that for Beerus, there's no "swaying" to the good side. He's a god of destruction and does things purely because he's bored and wants entertainment or hell, just wants food. Easy to provoke, easy to calm.
I love love his voice in the English dub.
I haven't seen many DBZ movies and I watched Broly and Bojack for the first time a day or two ago. Bojack as a character was complete uninteresting and fairly unimposing, but at least he didn't actively annoy me like Broly. For a movie that supposedly focuses on him a lot, there was painfully little substance to his character. He's basically Saiyan Buu but with even less personality.
Between the two I definitely liked Bojack Unleashed better since it wasn't going for an angsty tone and actally had fun. On the other hand, it also really lacked in scope and gravitas in terms of the threat its underdeveloped villain presented.
The only other movie stuff I've seen has been Battle of God's and TFS's abridged movies. What should I watch next?

The only other movie stuff I've seen has been Battle of God's and TFS's abridged movies. What should I watch next?
Just stick with the TFS versions. They've taken even the worst movies and made them entertaining. And sinc ethe movies are only about 45 minutes usually, the abridged versions dont actually cut out all that much. They've already done the first 6 of the original 13 anyway, and timeline wise they should be doing movie 7 fairly soon. (Though they're about to get to SUper Saiyan Gohan, which he wasn't in that particular film). Movie 8 should actually be right around the corner too, during? Cell.

Their early Goku was kind of an ass. I do miss the gag of Yamcha supposedly being awesome.
As far as when the next few movies are coming out…. they're actually kinda past due on Movie 7.
Movie 7 originally hit theatres the same week as Piccolo Vs. 17, so theoretically, it should be on the docket for them to release NOW if their intent is to release them around when they were released theatrically, as their website states.
Movie 8 came out during the Cell games, specifically right between the Episode where Satan challenges Cell, and when Goku first tries to fight him.

Their episodes are on a monthly schedule rather than a weekly, so its easy to understand them trying to find more organic spots to take a break for basically 2 months from the main story…. and have the stories fit a little more closely into the narrative than they do in the actual movies... and the timeline for movies 7 and 8 is a little fritzy anyway, the only time movie 8 could have taken place was that week of rest (But GOku and Gohan were perma-super at that time) , and there's similarly a narrow windw for movie 7 since Trunks has to be involved, and well... there's even MORE androids and another Dr. Wheelo death thats different than what we got.
I'm sure they have some plan how to do that... particularly with Vegeta bitching at Trunks about how many androids there's supposed to be.

Haha yeah, Broli is probably the one they get asked about the most considering it's the only one that specifically gets name dropped in that FAQ post.
TBH, with the exception of Movies 9 and 13, not a single one of the original 13 movies can be fit into the series proper, they ALL feature problems. At best, they require extreme jumps in logic that require the characters outright igniore important things that should be going on. At worst, they flat out CAN'T happen because of plotholes or characters being alive who should be dead and vice versa.
Movie 7's issue is that technically it could take place right before Vegeta and Trunks go into the RoSaT….. but, that requires all the main characters just outright ignore Cyborgs 16-18 and Cell and start going about their lives as if those 4 aren't at large and a potential threat still.
Considering none of the movies really "Fit" anywhere.
Movie 8 You already covered. As you said, it could take place during the Break for the Cell games perfectly.... BUT, it was stated that Goku and Gohan were ALWAYS SS during this time, so.... nope.....

The scene with Beerus and Bulma - especially considering the birthday party - reminded me of Twilight Zone's episode It's a good life. Luckily Bulma didn't get turned into a jack-in-the-box.

His personality, when he is on the legendary state, reflects that aspect and he almost acts how an Oozaru without control would act. As for his backstory, it's very developed (for DB standards) and actually interesting.
That is more than anyone can say about many other movie villains.

We're not comparing the Androids in the series to the ones in the movie though we're comparing movie villains. Plus if we are talking about them the only one's that had any real personality were 8 & 16.

If that's what the writers intended maybe the should've actually had put all of that into Brolly's character instead of having Paragus be the mouthpiece and Brolly basically be mindless muscle who spends most of the movie being angry and sour in part because of his father putting him on a leash.
