I enjoyed the arc labels, but now with every remaining volume essentially being "New World" it kind of grates on me. Is what it is, though.

Yeah, like imagine if Baroque Works through to the war was just called Grand Line. I presume they'll cut the New World label at the end of Dressrosa though and find a new one based on whatever conflict arises next regarding Zou/Wano/whichever emperor they tackle first. But yeah, it is what it is, I don't pretend to have any insights into the minds of Viz's marketing department, and I'm certainly not expecting them to change anything based on my preferences.
-
I can see them either reprinting the New World-volumes with new labels at some point or they'll stick with "New World" all the way. Another example of how the whole consistency thing Viz keeps talking about is bullshit.
-
You may have to clarify what they've been saying about consistency for me, and also why this makes it bullshit.
As far as the actual text of the volumes goes, Viz has more consistent character voices, terminologies and a more even tone than any scanlation I've ever read. Like I said in my original post, the labels on the covers don't affect that in any way. Hell, I'd be willing to guess the people writing the text don't have anything to do with the covers at all and they've got some marketing team on the task of making them sell to western audiences.

A page back I pointed out mistakes from volumes 35-45. (At the time Alexis Kirsch tweeted asking for fans to spot mistakes and I happened to be re-reading.)
I've read all the way to volume 74 (latest Viz volume) and noted down all the mistakes I've found. (I don't seem to have any from volume 46, not sure what happened there.)Overall it was super fun, however I'd like to point out two things before you browse the album (with just under 100 mistakes, I think).
Firstly, in early volumes (when I say early I mean after 46 and before 68-ish) there were instances of the words 'off of' being used incorrectly. (to my knowledge at least). A character would say 'off' instead of 'off of'. It just didn't sound right but I did not bother to point it out. To my surprise, the volumes that Stephen translated have the correct use of 'off of', so that made things better.
I also didn't bother pointing out parts of panels that were simply left white because of redrawing over a japanese sound effect. (these were very small so they shouldn't matter).
Oh before I forget, there are numerous instances of japanese text not being translated when it's on signs of shops or actual wooden/metal signs. I just assumed they were not translated because they were so small and did not contribute to the story etc. (So, I refrained from pointing them out.)The second thing I wanted to talk about was when an entire page would have ALL of its text shifted around 1 centimeter towards the top or the bottom. The thing about these pages is that they don't start to occur until the beginning of Dressrosa (volumes 70-74). I doubt this is a printing issue, looks more like a mistake made while editing text. It's quite disturbing when reading, I would definitely consider buying the volumes again, especially volumes 73/74, but that's just me.
There were instances of shifted text around volumes 68-70 but I didn't point them out because there were so few.Side note: English is not my first language but I've been using it 80% of the time for the last 8 years. There were some grammar issues I wasn't sure about while reading so I could be wrong with some of the things I pointed out.

Great! Did you send it to viz (Alexis)? Unfortunately viz is rarely answering questions via twitter or mail. Maybe you could put it as a request into the ESJ survey since it seems to be the only way to get in touch with and get

Regarding the a/an. you might have already been told, but it could either be " a sad tanker" or "an ess-ay-dee tanker"
-
Though I don't see myself rebuying that many volumes, I do appreciate the work you do Snir.

ah.. I didn't think of it that way

I'd really want to get brand new dressrosa books but Alexis mentioned that even if the mistakes were fixed and new volumes printed, it'll be very hard to get hold of the new ones because of the huge amount of volume already out there

That is the reason Im buying the digital edition. You only need to redownload the volume without having to pay twice.
Did Alexis mention if he is going to update the digital volumes? I made more than once the request at viz if they could inform their customers about digital updates with an "update log" or something else but I never got a reply to that. -

Yeah, exactly. Especially in online stores, which I always use, where you don't have the option to check which edition it is.

I was looking through my ESJ collection for the OnePiecexToriko crossover and realized that issue 7 (3/12/2012) only contains a sneak peek of the Crossover. Does anyone still have it which was released as a members only digital gift and is willing to share it with me via pm? That would be greatly appreaciated.

Does anyone know how to contact James Gaubatz? (touch-up artist and letterer of One-Punch Man)
If you have a look at page 55 of volume 7 it looks like the outlines of the jap sfx are still there.Image:

I've yet to check other pages

If you have a Shonen Jump Subscription you should write the editor of OnePunch Man, John Bae, who is supervising the whole process, a private message on http://shonenjump.viz.com/
Viz apparently prefers that you contact the editors -
I have a situation and would love input.
So I'm finally reading all the volumes from the second box set I got the back in October. I read all the way to 39, and when I picked up 40 the cover came off of the spine and the backside. The pages are all bound to each other but it seems they were not properly glued to the cover. This happened straight out of the box without any damage on my end.
Luckily I checked all the other volumes at this point and they are all normal quality Viz volumes. No problems there.
I then checked Viz's policy on defective products and they say to contact the seller for replacements. I never purchased this volume individually though and I purchased it half a year ago from Rightstuf. I really don't want to exchange my entire box set.
Now who should I contact for a replacement? Viz or Rightstuf? Or should I just spend $7.50 on another copy to save me the hassle?
Anyone with similar experiences would be appreciated.
-
Unless times are tough, just buy a new copy. Not like theze box sets contain unique versions. And if you bought it online, then it really just a hassle.
I've had amazon issue me a refund once because their packaging is bad. Anoter time, and this was most odd, in my special Sherlock Holmes book, one page was folded. It was folded because it was long and wide. It stuck out. Odd production error.

Does Viz only publish shonen manga?
Which companies publish seinen? Not at all. Viz has different imprints e.g. "Shonen Jump" is just one of those brands. So far I bought a lot of viz mangas that are not shonen like Solanin, Jormungand, Monster, Master KEaton, Nausicaä, Nana, Biomega, Black Lagoon….
As far as I can tell, Seinen are published under the imprint (Brand) "viz signature" http://www.viz.com/manga/print/viz-signature -

Stephen, I was wondering, why was this panel changed in chapter 731 for volume 73? Viz apparently didn't change it for the fixed version of volume 73 which is digitally abailable

Amazon has Vol. 75 up for only $5.18. Good deal for a preorder. http://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Vol-Eiichiro-Oda/dp/1421580292

If anyone's got an early copy of v.75, it'd be nice if you could let us know the state of it. As in printing errors, etc. Might order mine soon.
-
Oh boy am I ready for tomorrow: new Toriko, Assassination Classroom, Jojo's, One Piece, and the first volume of My Hero Academia. Can't wait.
-
I got my copy today, and other than a tiny smudge in one of the margins between panels I didn't notice any printing errors or whatnot.
…Oda's really got to curb his hard-on for two-page spreads though.
-
Are you guys getting them early because of pre-orders or do you think I might be able to walk into my local barnes and noble to pick one up?
-
I just walked into my local downtown Barnes & Noble for that store in particular has had a history of early releases. Like, I remember getting the final five volumes of the 2010 speed-up like a week early from them.
-
so… no mistakes in vol 75?
I have yet to get a copy :ninja: -
Only thing I noticed was they kept calling the swordsman 'Zolo' instead of 'Zoro'
:p

It is no secret that the viz reader and the viz app are using a different image quality and image size than itunes. A volume on the viz app has a size of 40-75MB (1200px per page) and the ones on itunes about 160-220MB(2100px) dependent on the amount of pages. However, volumes 1-68 on itunes are upscales and starting with volume 69 itunes offers true HQ but it seems that on comixology you can get volumes 1-68 in a much better quality than on itunes. But I'm not 100% sure and therefore I was asking if anyone has bought One Piece on comixology. Unfortunately I can't access their catalogue in my region, respectively comixology-us won't accept payments from europe

thank you viz for moving the artwork to the left so usopp isn't covered up.
also, brighter than the jap cover, awesome. -
Not sure if I like how it's brighter than the original but it ain't too shabby anyway.

This might have been asked before…but why was Clown star changed to Genius Jester? I hated the change and Viz seems to be the only translation that doesn't use "Clown star". Even subtitled games use it!

Shonen jump is now available on comixology and kindle. Although viz stated in a tweet that the resolution has not been changed the file size is different. Maybe kindle uses a different jpg compression. I just hope viz will soon offer Jump in HQ.
