Chapter 796: The Soldiers Decision

Haposai sensei…

Ultimately, here's what it comes down to for me:
I had many complaints with Derssrosa, but it held my interest for long enough to even have those complaints in the first place. Dressrosa renewed my interest in One Piece. As I've said earlier, part of what made me go back to One Piece after Toonami first died, was hearing how good it got after where I was (Albasta) and being upset at how horrible Naruto had become.
I loved One Piece! Then part 2 came (anything after the timeskip) and..well. I hated Fishman Island Saga. It was the most horrible arc in all of One Piece bar none and I was thinking about quitting One Piece all together. Still. I decided to give it a second chance and hold a little hope that it would get better. And it did…a little. I found Punk Hazard just kind of okay. I figured, alright that wasn't great but maybe the next arc will be better if this upward momentum continues. And boy did it! I've absolutely loved Dressrosa! Full of complex storytelling, interesting new characters and loads of hype! Simply amazing and I'm happy to be a One Piece fan right now! At the end of the day, that's what matters most to me. That in spite of many complaints, I loved the Dressrosa arc! One Piece came back from its near death...and it came back with a bang!

I haven't read through the thread to check if it's been mentioned - but i think the straw hats will be leaving on the marine battle ship the dwarfs beached when we first saw green bit.
That was Fujitora's ship. The one he made float.
-
The look on Nami's face would be priceless if Bellamy joined and Luffy introduced him. Or at least if Bellamy joined Luffy for a while for some random reason to pay off a debt. Not that I want him to join, I would just love to see her face. Similar to Skypeia's "I want to go adventuring on god's land" scolding I would imagine.

Others have already replied to that but I will say this, character dialogue isn't Oda, that said, those handmaidens also made a point to say that Rebecca's father is a prince and other BS. Try to get the context, not take one line from it. If anything, some people have reacted differently saying that line is a hint to Rebecca definitely not choosing to be a Princess/Queen.
Plus, that armor was skimpy.
Yeah that is true I guess it fits the handmaidens character to think as such, plus the BS cover story. If it was without doubt Oda himself expressing his views as such (Which I assumed at first) I would have a problem. Well I did say I was fine with Rebecca herself wearing a dress because it suits her character better and her armour (if you can call it that) was just ridiculous anyway.
Thanks I feel abit better about the whole thing now.

Than why couldn't she just wear some casual clothes then?

I know it's Fashion... But still?

She is 16 after all?

Also dresses creep me out for some reason? Women's intuition?

Pretty sure that Kyros is going to turn out to be Kobra's son and Vivi's brother. Him being royalty as well fixes most of these domestic and public image problems with the Riku family and them all living together. Bellamy pulling a Mr. 2 would be awesome as someone mentioned already, but I'm really getting the vibe that if anyone joins this arc it will be him.
I hadn't considered this. They did say that the prince scarlet met was in a place with many lakes. Obviously they were just making it up, but hey, Usopp makes up all sorts of stuff that ends up being true. Alabasta, after the fall of Crocodile, had water, perhaps even lakes. This could be a reference to Alabasta.
-
Slightly disapointed that we didn't get 1-2 page on Kaidou confrontation. I suppose he will simply walk away.
Sengoku looks so relax. I enjoy it for now. He definely let go of all the stress on his life.
I can't even say by Fuji inactivity. Way more worried about the tea party being missed.
Tsuru has to comply to Fuji rules? Well that sucks for the marines.
I can understand Kyros decision but I'm sure Luffy will fix this in some fashion.
I wonder if some allies are going to get captured?
Dress = Back in the family. Armor= Forced to fight. That's the only message I see
Sorry Fuji there's no wy I'm taking you seriously. And considering you're an admiral that's one hell of an achievement.

Luffy will claim Dressrosa and it will henceforth be known as Luffy Land.

@Game:
[qimg]http://i.imgur.com/ep1x6g6.png[/qimg]
This is the only panel that got me a bit worried. What IS HE implying?
Rebecca is going to pull off a similar move like her mother did? She isn't inheriting the throne, that much is obvious.
-
Now I know where Gambia is… It's obvious now. (before people will bitch... It is just a joke) MAJOR SPOILER
! [qimg]http://i.imgur.com/tu1QQP2l.png[/qimg] Everything has to be clean and shining for the Mugiwaras if they use the ship for the escape!
I could actually see this happening. Gambia barking orders to Barto's crew, making sure the ship's spotless when the SH's get onboard.
-
I called it during the Diamante fight that Rebecca would end up wearing a dress by the end of this arc, but I never expected Oda to actually be so blatant and write something like "Girls really do look much better in dresses than suits of armor."What a repulsive message for young readers.
I'm with you. Oda and his archaic and shitty view of women taints the otherwise great manga.
-
Everyone will say Dressrosa is amazing in a few years once you can just marathon the entire arc.
In a few decades when I'm senile, maybe.
-
Didn't read through the whole thread but… In the whole chapter, there was always someone in front of kyros, just so that we didn't see his missing leg.
We saw a second foot in the last chapter though. Was that "fixed" later? -
No one answered my question.
What did Bellamy menat with his conservation with Law? At what time has he interacted with Law that he should kill him?
-
I guess Law teleported or picked him up after the fight
-
No one answered my question.
What did Bellamy menat with his conservation with Law? At what time has he interacted with Law that he should kill him?
He was a hardcore worshipper of the man that Law despised above all others, and he was lying comatose for quite some time after the battle, seemingly.
Law's dark reputation may factor into his surprise at being left alive too.
-
Maybe it's more "why didn't you let me die ?"
-

Well yeah Ok that could makes sense. I thought there was a scene I missed where Bellamy asked him to kill hi or Law wanted to kill him.
But I really think after this conservation Bellamy may leave with Law if not on his own
-
Rebecca is going to pull off a similar move like her mother did? She isn't inheriting the throne, that much is obvious.
Then. . .Viola will be the new queen?
Maybe it's more "why didn't you let me die ?"
Yup, I'd go with that. Why didn't you kill me doesn't make that much sense.
-
Rebecca is going to pull off a similar move like her mother did? She isn't inheriting the throne, that much is obvious.
Pretty much the case. I'm not gonna get mad for that shit. But the fanbase on the other hand? The next Obito of the One Piece fandom will commence on our community.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
All those hate videos will probably go over a million if the worldwide fanbase find out about this?
-
Such a pleasing chapter. Had a smile on my face reading that from start to finish.
-
I wonder if some allies are going to get captured?
Everyone pretty much got away from the Kizaru/Sentomaru/PX/Kuma combo on Sabaody so I'd be a little surprised if it happened here (unless someone willingly gives themselves up)

How is that, in any way shape or form, similar to Obito?

How is that, in any way shape or form, similar to Obito?
I saw lots of videos online about how Obito caused the Naruto fanbase to drop the series altogether. And I feel the more popular anime reviewers will destroyed both Oda and Rebecca's credibility as a series. I'm hoping that's not the case. lol
-
I wonder if some allies are going to get captured?
"Hahaha! You stupid marines will never catch they!"
"You are all going to Level 5"!
"We just don't care!"

Popular anime reviewers? I want names.
-
You can be popular for watching anime? Damn.
But in any case, I do think Rebecca isn't going to stick being a royal. I think Luffy will get Kyros and Rebecca back together, where they choose to not keep as royal (not saying they'd be pirates), and Viola is finally put into an important role. Viola would be a better leader than Rebecca anyways.
-
Viola can be the princess. Kyros and Rebecca will just be Dressrosa's Batman and Robin.
You just know Toei would be all about those suiting-up close ups.
-
Did anyone else spotted Kid Koala in this chapter?

Have you played Legacy of Kain? I mean of course you have judging from your pic, that was a great series. Raziel is a badass, brings back good childhood memories.
Off-topic so I'll just comment once more how I believe Bellamy will end up joining Law's crew.
-
Bellamy will be tagging along with Bartolomeo, until he's ready to decide what he feels like doing, after losing his idol.
-
Bellamy, by technicality, really can fit with anyone really, aside from Cavendish, who he had no interaction with.

He needs to get laid, too much frothing over a dude all his life, a lady might solve his issues.

Quite off topic, but has anyone came up with any good theories or has it been explained what the huge monster in the florian triangle was?

It's quite funny how little patience you have though.
We've waited for 8 years to see Kaido and now you're complaining when you might have to wait a few weeks for an update on him and the KHA Alliance?
C'mon dude.
I would rather wait 2 more years before he would be introduced, than see him for half a chapter now and wait 1 or 2 more years for another update… for me it just ruined my excitement for this yonkou
-
Everyone pretty much got away from the Kizaru/Sentomaru/PX/Kuma combo on Sabaody so I'd be a little surprised if it happened here (unless someone willingly gives themselves up)
well, that was because they were on a revenge mission under order of the tenryuubito more that on an official marine misison hunting pirates…they pretty much left everyone there and went for the real objective, the mugiwara@Jabberwok:
Viola can be the princess. Kyros and Rebecca will just be Dressrosa's Batman and Robin.
You just know Toei would be all about those suiting-up close ups.
rebecca doesn't want to fight, that's the entire focus of her characters..she is the pacifist girl that was forced to fight for her and mr soldier sake..now she has no motif@zym:

it was just a monster..a little "pun" by oda showing that the problem of the florian triangle was not only moria

He will reappear sooner than you think actually because that's L&L's first Yonkou target so how about quit your exaggerations mate.
-
I could actually see this happening. Gambia barking orders to Barto's crew, making sure the ship's spotless when the SH's get onboard.
Wait a minute. You just gave me an idea…what if the ship Luffy and the others escape on...IS BART'S SHIP! We'll get to see his crew that way!~
-
I'm with you. Oda and his archaic and shitty view of women taints the otherwise great manga.
I suppose Oda is a major racist considering Hody's existence.
It's just character dialogue that oversensitive people look too much into. An old maid is not going to say that a woman would look better in a bikini armor.
-
@Master:

I feel exactly the same way.
-
@xan:
The escape WILL be epic. There must be another reason than having Sengoku and Tsuru conveniently arriving in a place where their only said purpose was to arrest doflamingo. Luffy will make a mess and probably some Roger nostalgia might hit the old timers
Their old buddy Garp too.
Highly unlikely, but I'd love to see the Buddha in action again, against Zoro as Luffy should be busy dealing with Fuji.
-
It was a throwaway comment by some some woman who'd fitted her for a dress in a nothing scene.
It doesn't mean anything.
I suppose Oda is a major racist considering Hody's existence.
It's just character dialogue that people look too much into. Are you going to say Rebecca looked better in bikini armor?
Hody was framed as an extremely hateable, wrong, see kids this is what not to act like racist.
Whereas the Maids dialogue this week is framed as negative too- wait, no it isn't. Theres no real response to it; it just sits there, unchallenged by all other characters; Rebecca doesn't object to it, Violet doesn't object to it, it is not framed as something questionable. And sure, its character dialogue, but all dialogue is decided by Oda; It didn't just forcibly materialize out of the ether, Oda decided that the scene should include that bit of dialogue.
I think people are hypberoling they said Rebecca looked better in a dress rather than that armor she was wearing. They didn't say that girls looked better in dresses. I kind of agree she looks better in a dress rather than that horrid armor.
Right, so for months and months we had complaints about Rebecca running around in some revealing Armour.
Now we're getting complaints about how she's no longer in the Armour, she's in a conservative dress and being told to stick to traditional gender roles or whatever.
Some people would prefer that poor little pacifist weaklin to continue fighting in her beloved gladiator suit ha? Funny how some people were so blind and convinced toward one certain character.
Are you going to say Rebecca looked better in bikini armor?
Come on now guys, no one said anything about missing Rebeccas horrible chainmail bikini - least of all the maid in the scene. She doesn't say "You look so much better now than in that godawful unidgnified fanservice outfit" she says, "Girls look prettier in dresses than armor". Not that specifically vile armor, armor period.
And that carries all sort of unfortunate subtext, because when and why do you actually wear armor? What does wearing armor signify about you, especially in the context of this particular arc? Well, being in armor suggests you're in dangerous situations, possibly being pro-active and attempting to solve them, such as if your whole country was suddenly on the brink of annihilation. Dainty dresses…do not imply that, and the maids line reads a lot like "see, isn't this a lot better for a girl than being out doing dangerous things?"
Of course, its possible that this really is just some lame fashion statement from the maid that Oda only thought about for one second, but the reason it truly stinks is that its attached to Rebecca, of all characters. Rebecca, whose character arc was to learn that She Should Not Try To Contribute. Sure girl you tried learning self defense, but now that theres people to take care of you you can just stop trying, oh look now Rebecca you got yourself into trouble again why don't you just do as you're told, sure you really seem determined to make a contribution, but see how not capable you are, now we have to rescue you again, see now the crisis is over, isn't it good that you don't have to miserably fail at contributing anything anymore?
And to this girl, it is now said: "Girls look better in dresses than armor!"
So no, its not about pining for the chainmail bikini.

You know, I don't really the problem with girls looking prettier in dresses than in armor. It's like saying that a guy looks more handsome in a suit than in some armor. That's how I saw the scene anyway.
Armors are not supposed to be pretty anyway. They're combat equipment.
-
@Master:
I would rather wait 2 more years before he would be introduced
That generally isn't how Oda works though, at least when it comes to major characters.
He gives us breadcrumbs and gradually builds a bigger picture of a character until we finally get them as a main character in a focused arc.
I mean look at the build we had for Doflamingo over the years before we finally got to Dressrosa.
@Master:
, than see him for half a chapter now and wait 1 or 2 more years for another update…
Now that we've had the full reveal, we won't be waiting years for another update on Kaido.
Especially when half the SH crew just engaged some of his underlings on Zou.
@Master:
for me it just ruined my excitement for this yonkou
Apparently not.
You wouldn't be this disappointed if you didn't care quite deeply about the character, and weren't still excited by the prospect of seeing more from him.
-
oh come on.
not every character or sentence made in a fictional story is a statement made by the author .
stop over analyzing things and let authors write whatever they please..i wanna stories where the author writes what he7she wants, not where he has to revisit his story and vision multiple times because soem guys on the internet will start judging him based on a character or even a single sentence.
also…no,rebecca's arc was not about her not contributing, was about her being a pacifist and being able to live by her beliefs instead of being forced to fight for her life and the lives of the people she cares about.
some times it seems like people didn't read the arc at all, they just looked at her armor (an armor that was not protective and useless for reason specifically explained in the story) and screamed "FANSERVICE!ODA YOU CHAUVINIST PIG" -
@Daz:
And sure, its character dialogue, but all dialogue is decided by Oda; It didn't just forcibly materialize out of the ether, Oda decided that the scene should include that bit of dialogue.
Daz, it's one line in one panel.
It's apparently a woman who fits dresses commenting how girls look better in dresses than Armour.
It makes total sense for her to say that, as it's seemingly the focus of her job, and for nobody to make a huge fuss about it.
If there was another woman gladiator nearby in the panel, then it might make sense for something to be said.
In this case though, I really do think this isn't even a mountain out of a molehill, it's a mountain perfectly flat ground.
-
You know, I don't really the problem with girls looking prettier in dresses than in armor.
Armors are not supposed to be pretty anyway. They're combat equipment.
That….isn't the issue at all.
If the scene was phrased like "Isn't it good to be finally out of that armor after all those years?" it would come across a lot better...or maybe if Rebecca had made some actual accomplishments while wearing it.
We can also speculate that the armor was not her first choice, that it was all part of Doflamingos cruel humilation of her, but that is never supported in-story; Rebecca never seems uncomfortable with it, its not used to make the readers uncomfortable (apart from if you're uncomfortable with fanservice). Regardless, the maids line still refers to armor in general, not Rebeccas armor. -

we saw her in "civilian clothes"..it's not like she had the armor up all the time..and yes..her having a barely useful and not protective armor was part of doflamingo scheme,it was explained in the story, and she was not the only one half naked in the arena
