I was going to comment that Souma is starting to look older last week. Now, with this chapter it's obvious .
Glad that Ibusaki is getting some development.
Finally, the extra chapter is looking very good. Can't wait to read a translation.

Aohige when will you make turtle burgers? On second thought don't :D I fear the preparation photos…
Alright, food time!
Mackerel Burger.http://i.imgur.com/gfSZuDW.jpg
It was interesting!
It did still taste like fish, yet at the same time tasted like a hamburg.
Does it taste better than a beef patty? No, but it's certainly no less delicious. And here's the usual cooking image.
1. Finely chop onions, and mix it with eggs, panko, and shredded mackerel. (you may use tuna if you wish)
2. Mold it with your hands into patti
3. Fry it on a frying pan, cook both sides well. Basically the same as any hamburger.
4. Use the syrup that was in the can of fish to make sauce. Mix it with Ponzu sauce on a frying pan, and add some flour to give it texture. Not bad at all. And it's actually quite easy to make, as it's not too very different from making a standard hamburg.
that looks almost as good as Soma's
Aohige secretly one of the elite ten?

Does this counts as a timeskip?
Nice to see time was spent on the other characters, and even on offs failing.
It's pretty sad that I only know Irina (bitch sensei), Nami (of course), and that girl from Gintama (that I've never really read, just glimpse of the manga). Can u guys tell me who those other girls are? I think I've seen the girl with the red ribbon a few times, no idea about the rest though

Definitely. The characters are going to come back with new techniques and we'll have flashbacks to when they learned them. That's enough to make a timeskip
I wonder how the other Aldini bro did. He was the only one we didn't get to see. As well as rice drink and game animal girls.

Ey man!!! Nice to see you .
She's Shitoge Kirisake, Nisekoi's protagonist. I don't know the others.

Ohoho, hey there Ukimix, been a while since the days of my sig there (really need to replace it sometime soon ). How u been dude? I've been busy being a lurker around here these days

Hehe, you can put a digital photo frame on the living room! … and with the days show it to your grandsons
Just fine! Hope you are fine too!
So, is there a scan of the special chapter?
I hope the author will start focusing on the other polar star dorm characters. I'm glad Shun problem is being touched on after so long. Even though I don't really care that much about him.
I hope the other elite ten members show up eventually. Eizan was introduced in chapter 30+.
That was not what I expected. This special turned out to be a Gintama level remorseless and unashamed editorial bashing. If there ever was a reason for tosh to come to this magazine, that was it.
The faces of those fish on Nami and the editor-in-chief cameo were the best.

Oh man I didn't notice this the first time I read it, Tosh sure is cheeky. I loved how tongue in cheek this was
Fourth Wall breaking Nami?
Don't like it.
^Nami would definetly break the 4th wall if there was money for it.
How come the scans were in colour but the spoiler pics were in black and white?

I am most definitely skipping some dish, and turtle is one of them.
I don't even have the slightest fitting environment to be decapitating animals in my kitchen, or doing high level gastronomy.

How are you going to be one of the Ten Elite if you aren't willing to decapitate small animals in your apartment? Where's your dedication!?
You gotta get one of these size adjustable animal guillotines from the shopping channels I bet they'll get you 2 cute head/blood buckets extra to keep your kitchen clean if you buy right now.
Ok maybe this has gotten out of hand…. :ninja:

And who doesn't own one of those, am I right?
I think this episode had an anime original "tastegasm" well not really gasm. Was pretty nice, I appreciate how the anime seems to put some weight on how superior Erina's sense of taste is to the point that it becomes odd. That doesn't come across as strongly in the manga.
Definitely did not remember Erina's odd visions lol. They always start out serene and end with some odd animal? Was the hippo the one that was original for the anime?
Also I did not expect Nikumi's voice to be that way. I guess I always pictured her with a higher voice.
It's official Soma is the Peter of SnS.

2 unseen member of the Elite Ten makes an appearance!
English scan is out: http://www.readmanga.today/shokugeki-no-soma/117
It's looking like Soma is starting to leave the rest of the Polar Star dorm behind, but of course we'll find out that they all improved vastly too and will surprise themselves as well as us. I'm liking the upcoming arc whereby they'll get to challenge all of the Elite Ten.
Can we have a Medaka box level cooking slaughter in Soma's favour? Pretty please?
Some more of the elite ten! I'm so ready for this
Waiting for a foodgasm based on "Bite The Dust".

Chapter title: "Like a boss"
I don't care if it's a translation error, Casanova Scans has to keep that title.
Also, now older Soma reminds me of the Pharaoh from Yugioh. Hopefully Soma will lose more than him though.
There's also the pigtail girl between Erina and Isshiki.
We only see one more don't we? The dude?
I don't remember the girl with plaits. Who is she? And I also think the guy with the Yugioh hair style is new.
I don't remember the girl with plaits. Who is she? And I also think the guy with the Yugioh hair style is new.
She's new, I don't remember her either, but I have a feeling both will inevitably end up being fodder anyway. I suspect that Ibusaki will end up as a member of the elite ten by the end of the coming arc. Not only that but he'll leap frog Erina.
Not my feeling. I feel all elite ten will be relevant somehow, not that it will be an arc for every one; they are not the Knights of the Zodiac, but the term 'elite ten' would have to have some meaning, and fodder characterization doesn't work for them. Maybe in this arc we will see some of them beaten by someone, or some of them teaching something new to Soma and his mates, and most likely those 2 new characters.
Why Ibusaki of all person? He had problems in his staigeire.
While all those that qualify for the election does have a chance to make it to the Elite Ten, the top 8 are the one that has the hhighest chance.
Honestly, I'm not expecting much from the two new elite ten. Eizan failed utterly at destroying Souma. He didn't even posed a threat against Souma. Souma didn't even struggle against Subaru.
I still don't know what Eizan's plan was…
They will be all hype but don't deliver.
Of course, I like to be proven wrong since I want to see an Elite ten that deliver the hype.
Yeah, Eizan's plan definitely hurt his status as a villain IMO, but the hunt seems like an interesting way to get some insight into the Elite Ten. I'm curious actually about the hunt in general, but we're bound to see more of it in due time.
Also, just to continue some slight critiques, I'm sad that the side characters have been lacking in development lately. We got insight into Hisako, but that was in large part due to her being at the same place as Soma. The rest of the stories during the week seem to just be hinted at (maybe novelizations can expand on them kinda like the first novel did for some side stories Megumi and the Aldini brothers during the weekend that Soma went back home and had the Karaage arc). I've think we've reached a good point where Soma can start taking the sidelines and have the story revolve around other characters.
Thankfully, I like Soma and enjoy following his journey so even if the side characters don't get focus I'm happy following Soma and have the plot revolve around him.
Maybe Eizan didn't thought Soma worth more meassures or tactics to be destroyed. So at least, he was careless. If he's serious about what happened he himself should have challenged Soma in the appropriate context to "eliminate" him.
Soma managed to revive the shopping district with Sumire karaage in a span of three days.
He was also placed second in his block.
Underestimating Soma is kinda a stupid move.
Remember that Eizan asked the karaage lady to report back any possible threat, no matter what insignificant it is? Guess he forgot his own words.
While Eizan is not the kind of guy that get his hand dirty, he should have more than enough worthy henchmen that can be a threat to Soma. Subaru wasn't even that much of a threat.
After Eizan declared that the autumn election will mark the end of Soma's upstart, I think is fair to expect that he will be more proactive.
But he spend most of the time in the background.
If his plan was for Soma to get crushed by the competition in the election, Eizan failed.
The moment Soma make it to the top 8, he is no longer a small fry.
The smart move the story has done is not have Eizan straight up try to explain his plan to anyone out loud in the story. There's no way that wouldn't unravel quickly.
But from what was inferred, the only thing Eizan did was rig it so Subaru and Soma meet up in the semifinals. We don't know if Eizan set up Soma vs. Alice or Subaru vs. Takumi. Nor do we know if Eizan just let Subaru handle the match against Soma the way he normally handles matches or tried to micromanage the situation, because if it was the latter it would make Eizan look worse since Soma was the one that had to up the ante by saying he wanted to leave the school in order to try to win back the 99 knives. Subaru originally only wanted Soma's knife and offered Takumi's knife in return.
But yeah, having Eizan just say he was careless, let Subaru have too much free reign, or maybe just state that the whole tournament was meant to be an observation and not meant to crush him would help a bit to bring back some credibility.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I will also argue letting Soma get into the Top 8 is fine personally if Eizan's plan was to crush Soma. If Soma couldn't manage to get there on his own, then he's not worth crushing anyways and would eventually drop out sooner or later. And having Subaru crush Soma seemed like a solid plan given Subaru's record for crushing his opponents psychologically.
True, in a way, letting Soma make it to the top 8 will make the crushing worse.
I think it will be great if the 'hunt' reveal Eizan has more plans up his sleeve. If his plan was for Soma to get this far and utterly crushed him so that he can't even qualify for the Elite ten, that will be great. But I highly doubt it.
Here is hoping Souma will challenge Eizan in new arc.

Wait Ibusaki struggled in his stage cook week? I don't recall that but it definitely happened, question is whether it was more so than Soma?
But you have to go back to near the beginning, Ibusaki was the only one who knew what Isshiki's real cooking was like. He spoke to him more like they were on par rather than the usual sempai/kouhai style.

I'm guessing we'll find out that it's unusual for any of the elite ten to do any official battling before this event that's coming up and that it's Erina's disregard for such traditions that's kept he number so low.
Here is hoping Souma will challenge Eizan in new arc.
yeah, I also want to see what Eizan can do. After all, I don't think sneaky tricks alone could have gotten him into the 9th seat, which is above Erina's God's Tongue.

Ibusaki did have some trouble. The fact is he didn't even qualify for the top 8 in the autumn election. He's also tied with Marui in the prelimenary. He also has the problem where he's a reclusive person that doesn't talk to people about his problems. When everyone else was working together to improve their skills, he didn't participate. Until he starts to open up to people, he wouldn't improve much. This a potential plotline here.
Ibusaki just know Isshiki for a longer period so he's aware of Isshiki's skills. He calls bullshit at Isshiki's statement of Soma being on par with him. That's all.
The top 8 in the election are more likely to qualify for the Elite Ten than him.
Yep SunnyBlue is right dunno where that strange idea came from but in the original text Isshiki just talks out loud about how Soma tied with him and Ibusaki overhearing that calls it out because he wasn't even that serious to begin with in that match when he didn't even serve his "specialty".
It's pretty much just about those two knowing each other longer. As far as Polar Dorm goes Isshiki has been really just the weird kind of doting Senpai to everyone. Nothing so far suggest that anyone in the dorm is equal to him.
Also I suggest people read the chapter again when the official jump release comes out(or casanova if you don't have access).
Most probably know this but to those who don't readmanga scans have pretty bad translations(it seems like they get translated from jap into chinese then from chinese into english).
Readmanga definitely translate the chapter from chinese to English. I can read chinese sorta so it's pretty blatant they did that.
Normally I'd wait for the official translation but because of Golden week I'm extra hungry for a chapter of Soma so I couldn't wait the 3 extra days

Soma didn't really struggle that much though. Yeah he had a few issues at Shinomiya's, but that was because he had pretty much no experience with french cuisine and the standards at Shinomiya's shop were almost certainly far higher. Making a contribution to a place like Shinomiya's was always going to be much harder than making a contribution to a restaurant having a lot of trouble like the one we saw Ibusaki having trouble with. Not to mention when we had that seen, Ibusaki was clearly frustrated about how Soma and Tadakoro had gotten so far ahead of him. And knowing that somebody else that you've known for a while is good doesn't tell me anything about Shun's skills. Especially since the basis for his belief was simply that the dish didn't fall under Isshiki's specialty

Soma tried everyone's dishes there when he moved in, and he said Isshiki's dish, which fell outside his specialty, was on a whole different level compared to everyone else in their dorm
So, Soma is pretty much cruising to get his ass handed to him by these Elite 10, to help balance out the power spike?
Seems about right.
