The Buu arc ended with Mr. Satan saving the world; this alone makes it miles ahead of anything in GT or the Android/Cell arcs.
Hell, you could even say that Mr. Satan saved the world in the Cell arc too.

I guess that means there are things even beyond the power of Satan to save if the Cell arc couldn't be salvaged.

Amen to that, this is why Dragon Ball is one of my fav mangas there are more ways of being a hero then having to use strength.

Get drunk off his ass and sing about Piccollo-san dai-dai while dreaming of dancing dinosaurs and roller coasters?

Hey no one told his father to hand him the keys and nearly total the car.
I didn't care for the Dragon Ball Z ending because Goku just leaves … leaves his family. To train some dude. But at the very least it didn't specify how long it would be. I could decide for myself, say, a couple of months. And he could've come home here and there. Gt's beginning pretty much says that he's been training Uub for years. He could've come home here and there, but still.
And then Gt's ending does the same thing. Goku just up and leaves his wife to train with the dragon. The hell.
To be fair, Goku also abandoned his sons constantly.
To be fair, Goten knew his father as "that deadbeat dead guy"

I guess it's better than touching females awkwardly or stealing their underwear :V

This is a running thing after Freezer, really.
Vegito at least had the excuse that he was trying to get people out of Buu.
The cell games episodes are still my favorite of the series. Gohan finally surpassing his father was a great moment imo. Man I loved those episodes
Gohan finally surpassing his father was a great moment imo.
But then, Buu saga started.
Now that I think about it, I still haven't seen Battle of the Gods lol
For me, the series ended after the Cell Saga.
But Frieza is also a valid option.
But don't you just love a super powerful bubble gum antagonist that blew up Earth?

Gumby blew up the earth?
Yeah, he's younger than both Yamcha and Tenshinhan, yet looks decades older than both.
That's because Krillin got a baby mama, and for that matter, an actual life. He's got responsibilities! He may look older than both but he also looks a hell of a lot happier.

He's got all of that and yet he still squats in Master Roshi's house. I bet he doesn't even pay rent.
Also Buu arc > Cell arc.

Isn't Gumby made of clay?

But 18 scored millions from blackmailing Mr. Satan! Did he really stay there just cuz?
Also, Yamcha becomes a baseball player after Piccolo Jr. yet returns to the freaking desert at the end of GT. That's baffling.

The desert was a metaphor for a wasteland of irrelevance.

So i'm not the only one who thought that
The number 1 most hilarious thing to come out of GT is how the anime team didn't even care to animate Yamcha, Ten Shin Han and Chaotzu. They only appear in 2 STILL SHOTS throughout the entirety of GT if memory serves me right. Still shots. During a party scene after Super 17? And during the ending episode?
I don't know, it's just friggin hilarious.

Well to be honset… We could be glad that other characters bar Goku have been animated after all.
GT is still retarded as hell in most of it's aspects.
I was a big fan of DB but was unable to stomach a whole full episode of GT.
It was as bad as the OVAs but spliced into tiny 20' bits to make the torture even worse.
No one is forgiving GT, it's just like Pain's invasion arc (compared to the evil dragons arc), a very interesting premise mangled by terrible excecution.
Fun fact. Even Cartoon Network skipped the first half of GT entirely and just started at the actioney second half after doing a really fast spliced together recappy first episode.
There is one potential upside to GT, that is not promised and may never come… and yet...
Just imagine the potential for Team Four Star to eventually abridge it some day.

Unfortunately, by the time it was airing on Toonami back in my day, you had to sit through "Like early Dragon Ball, but shittier and with robots" before moving on to "Like later Dragon Ball, but shittier and with fur sweaters".

I agree. I really liked the idea of there being consequences to the good guys using the Dragon Balls frivolously. Imagine that their first wish was panties (started by a teenage girl's quest for a boyfriend).
Just….only Goku (and occasionally Pan) vs. all of the dragons wasn't so entertaining.
They say they might stop after Cell, and yet…
But there's so many Buu saga hijinxs! Gohan playing basefall, Great Saiyaman, Mr. Satan in general, fusion…..I also wonder how many movies they're gonna abridge.

Oh, I'm sue they want to get through everything. Its mostly that it eats up their time and keeps them from moving onto other projects, and by the time they finish off Cell (in another 8-12 months?) they'll have been doing it for like 7 years. (And all of them abridging some series or another for 2 or 3 years before that.) And at the pace they go Buu would probably take about 3 years to get through, and longer if they do movies 8-12 in the meantime, and 13 after. (They still haven't done movie 7, but given it has other androids and Gohan isn't Super yet in it, it probably needs to fall into their timeline pretty soon…. and movie 8 with Broli only really fits in during the week of waiting for the Cell games.)
But they've got a fairly successful patreon running now that can probably pay all the main guys comfortably like a real legitimate job rather than an all consuming hobby (and cons pay to bring them in), so that might make a difference.

Mm-hmm, it is better they all get a little more comp for their efforts, considering how high the production value has jumped since the first few episodes. Sharper editing, more consistent (and experienced) voice actors, better mic quality.
Each episode takes a lot of behind the scenes work these days, as Kaiser's breakdowns can attest to. So they're worth the wait.
Wasn't Gohan still stronger then Goku in Buu ark ?
Yes, when the elder Kai unlocked his full power Gohan was stronger than Goku.
After years of "leaving" Dragonball behind me, I've been drawn back in. Thanks to my bro playing the fascinating Dragonball Xenoverse, and me other bro leaving his DVD of Battle of the Gods on the shelf, I've been forced into a nostalgia trip. Now, I'm trying to catch up to what I've missed. In short, BoG was a lot of fun and I love how everyone gets a moment (btw, I'm counting Krillin not getting maimed a moment). So well done!
Now, onto RoF…I've seen spoilers due to lack of willpower. I'm trying to ignore and forgot them until I can see this movie for myself. I withhold judgement. I withhold criticism. Does it seem stupid? I don't know! Maybe it makes more sense when you see it? I love the new LA Lakers Frieza!
The real problem with the Buu saga was it was overall a whole bunch of nothing. They set up so many things only for them to be swat down destroying any tension or real success for the heroes. Fusion, SSJ3, Potential Unlocked Gohan, Vegetto all of it was used and hyped up like they would be these amazing things that would put away Majin Buu and they all turned out to be let downs. That's not cool, that's not acceptable and it just wastes time. It didn't even make Buu look powerful it just made him look like a very very very patient Pink Monster who mostly sat on his ass all arc and waited to be challenged until he kills everyone and blows up the earth "just cause", oops. When Goku first turned SSJ it was exciting, he and the audience felt victory because he surpassed Frieza, yet there was still tension with the planet exploding. When Gohan turned SSJ2 he and the audience FELT VICTORY because he surpassed the near unstoppable Cell and we felt tension because Gohan lost function in his arm and prevailed with a Kamehameha with one arm. Those were exciting, those were amazing feelings because they gained power that was hyped up that actually had a payoff in the end. What did we get with Buu saga, oh a bigger Spirit Bomb… party horn Buu Saga really hurt me because things like Gotenks and Vegetto were really cool ideas that were wasted on a pink blob who literally got away with murder.

In retrospect that seems hella bad, considering once Gohan, Goku, & Trunks went Super Saiyan they were pretty much unstoppable…...unless Toriyama did something to break it up like making Cell ragequit after spitting up 18 or Trunks not being strong enough to beat 17 & 18, or USSJ Trunks being too slow to keep up with Perfect Cell or some other bs.
And while I do agree with some of the blown potential......especially with Vegetto.......(double so with the manga), him killing Buu outright just wouldn't have seemed right.

It only seemed bad because SSJ was supposed to be the ultimate warrior and the most powerful being in the universe, so they had to compensate somehow to gimp that tittle from being true and we got… teenagers. Cyborg teenagers were the roadblock to super saiyans. Its kind of why the series needed to end either with Frieza or Cell seeing as how it really made SSJ look like an afterthought, but my point wasn't really longevity, it was that in those key moments when all else failed they finally gained enough power to one up the villain and END them as opposed to playing with them.
I wish we would have ended with the Buu arc like original attended, well actually he wanted to end it at the cell games but now we have to deal with all these power ups that in my opinion keep getting more ridiculous as time goes by.
Now no one can keep up with Goku and Vegeta. To make matters worse they keep trashing on Gohan, new film makes him look weak, the crossover didn't help either neither did the new ovas. They should have just stopped on that high note.
Personally, I thought the Cell Games was the best way to end the series. Every one in the original cast got to fight and show good amount of team work against Cell and got there time of spotlight. Vegeta did really good at the end of the Cell Games surprising Cell with that last Attack of his allowing Gohan to shock him with one final powerful Attack.
Goku made us Proude sacrificing his life to stop Cell and even stood his ground helping his son every step of the way till the end, in the previous Z years before Goten was around Goku looked like a good father at least. Than the later Years of Z and man things took a turn for the worse with his parenting skills LOL.
Course, this is my opinion.

Well yeah, of course not. They set them all up at once, they HAD to fail, so we could see the other things.
If theyd just tried one thing at a time, and suceeded while the other three plans waiting in the wings… the sense of failure would be even worse... or the arc would have ended very quickly and you would have been left with the others arriving with their new powerups and nothing to do.
It would be like if Gohan and Piccollo's training had been enough to beat Nappa and Vegeta, and Goku arrived after a year in the afterlife just in time to see Vegeta leaving. Or if Frieza announced he had four total forms and Krillin's kienzan had just cut Frieza in half during his second and that had been the end of it.
I mean hfil, its STILL a complete waste that absolutely nothing ever came of Yamcha, Tien and Choutzu training with Kaio.
It worked cause everyone got a spotlight, and for the mot part they kicked Buu's ass, they just lost by fluke or trickery mostly.
It didn't even make Buu look powerful it just made him look like a very very very patient Pink Monster who mostly sat on his ass all arc and waited to be challenged until he kills everyone and blows up the earth "just cause", oops.
I dunno. I'd say it was pretty good strategy to absorb Piccolo, and wait around for the two kids to fuse again and absorb them. No different than Zarbon defeating Vegeta with a hidden powerup despite Vegeta's confidence in his new strength… Which is in turn no worse or better than Frieza's 4.5 forms or Cell's three (four) forms or Vegeta going were-ape after setting a condition. I mean, Cell blew up and then came back even stronger!
When Goku first turned SSJ it was exciting, he and the audience felt victory because he surpassed Frieza, yet there was still tension with the planet exploding. Nevermind that against Nappa and Vegeta we had the entire cast dying one by one.
Or that on Frieza we had super strong Nail, fused Piccollo, powered up Vegeta, unlocked potential Krillin, unlocked potential Gohan, tricky Ki sensing underwater fireball tossing Goku, Kaioken X20 post-gravity training Goku, and spirit bomb all failed against Frieza first… and that even after SS hit and dominated the fight, it still went on for quite a while with a lot of a give and take along the way.
Or that during Cell we had characters going Super constantly, emergency year of time chamber training, multiple beyond super saiyain, Tien's stalling, fused with kami Picollo, Android 16 fighting evenly with Cell with a defused bomb plan, and that Cell himself was nearly beaten a couple times before his last powerup, and so on.
All the arcs had bait and switches like what you're describing, where someone reaches a new level of power, challenges the enemy, and with lots of characters failing... going back at least to to Roshi, Tienshinhan and Kami facing off against Picollo/Piccollo Jr. in original dragonball. (Nevermind whipping boys Yamcha and Krillin)
Buu wasn't any different.
Mystic Gohan beating the crap out of him was pretty satisfying. Vegetto was great, in the anime at least... it was super brief in the manga.
What did we get with Buu saga, oh a bigger Spirit Bomb… party horn Buu Saga really hurt me because things like Gotenks and Vegetto were really cool ideas that were wasted on a pink blob who literally got away with murder.
The spirit bomb actually working, (with an assist from Mr. Satan savior of the world!) after having failed the first two times it was used was a nice touch. Yeah, its easy to be bored with that move thanks to the movies using it to finish the job several times, but in the actual story spirit bomb hadn't ever worked till then.
And actually, Vegeta got away with murder. All of Buu's victims were brought back to life.
Vegeta's victims were revived with another wish earlier in the arc didn't they?
Vegeta's victims were revived with another wish earlier in the arc didn't they?
Maijin Vegeta's attack sure. But his Namek victims specifically remained dead since he "wasn't a minion of Frieza".
Personally, I thought the Cell Games was the best way to end the series. Every one in the original cast got to fight and show good amount of team work against Cell and got there time of spotlight.
Except the people that had been in the series for more than 5 years and were actually "original cast".
Maijin Vegeta's attack sure. But his Namek victims specifically remained dead since he "wasn't a minion of Frieza".
That poor namek village. And yeah, the people killed by the first attack on earth, the city leveled by Nappa. And the farmer killed by Raditz.
Maijin Vegeta's attack sure. But his Namek victims specifically remained dead since he "wasn't a minion of Frieza".
My head canon is that the other Namekians revived them later…
And yeah, the people killed by the first attack on earth, the city leveled by Nappa. And the farmer killed by Raditz.
And that they were wished back during the three-year Android training
