I think theres a outside chance Senior Pink will join since him and Franky are homies now and if one of his crew members thinks very highly of someone Luffy will respect them

He has numbered the straw hats joining. He didn't give Robin and Chopper a numbered chapter probably because he didn't want to reveal that Vivi and Carue won't be joining officially like the others and instead will be honorary members.

Why would you count Luffy if you are looking at the crew members he adds. Its like counting yourself when you say how many friends you have. lol

Perhaps the next female nakama will be working under an Emperor?

Oda said that the new nakama will join successively, perhaps it would be someone under Big Mam's crew? This way Jinbe and whoever the female nakama is could officially join back to back. This would be similar to how Sanji/Nami or Franky/Robin joined.

I wouldn't mind if someone joined during Wano Country. Kinemon could be a potential candidate depending on how his story unfolds later on. He has some bad history with dragons. Ace also said that he learned how to make straw hats in Wano Country..could this be a foreshadowing or a hint that we will get a crew member in Wano?

Looking at the story and making inferences involve a little math regardless of someone using numbers or not. You can say that someone's theory is wrong because they lack proper reasoning or if their speculations don't seem accurate because of in story proof. Being able to read between the lines and make predictions is the bedrock to building an understanding in both reading and math. Inferring is something we do all the time.

Not saying that Oda goes out of his way to use mathematical formulas. But using math to draw conclusions, make reasonable predictions, make connections, and make critical/analytical judgement about text or mathematical data isn't wrong just..because.

I see your point. But what's happening in One Piece isn't really a quantifiable or predictable pattern. It is just a man who thinks, "oh, this is cool. I'll do this." "Oh that's interesting. I'll make a character around this drawing." "You know what would be a time saver, if I could produce doors to go anywhere." ect.

He's not really aiming to go anywhere really so trying to figure out his next move from his prior move is essentially pointless. Think of it this way:

We flip a coin. It's heads. Now predict the next flip. Under the guise of what you think is math, but actually pure speculation and facts to fit theories, the equivalence of what your saying is since the last flip was heads then the next flip should be heads too. But your opinion on this matter is irrelevant to the outcome of the coin flip. Oda is essentially random. He might like to do certain things but he could go any way.

There are limits as to what he can do, but there's still enough leeway to assume we cannot logically deduce things like who the next crew member will be until there is substantial evidence indicating so.

I see what you mean but I disagree with "Oda is just random"..My experience of reading One Piece tells me that Oda isn't randomly doing what he does. He goes out of his way to drop subtle hints throughout his storytelling. Certain things are unpredictable, yes. The final number of straw hat crew members has its limiting factors and a reader could make a reasonable prediction.

I didn't understand why someone would count Luffy into a pattern that is looking at the number of crew members joining on each segment. Patterns aren't the way to go but disregarding someone's theory completely because they mention a pattern still seems harsh/absurd.

For example, someone says that both Nami and Robin wore Luffy's hat at one point before they officially join/re-joined. Therefore the next female that wears Luffy's hat could be a potential candidate to join Luffy's crew…This is also some kind of story pattern the observer/reader is looking at and making an inference. saying that the theory is void just because the person selectively made a pattern is cool?

someone could say that Usopp wore Luffy's hat at some point so this pattern sucks and that even if someone does wear Luffy's hat at some point doesn't mean they will join..Shanks, and Roger also wore the straw hat..etc.

But..the gist of this pattern would be that only a select group of people get to wear the straw hat and from those who wear it the probability of them joining if they aren't Shanks/Roger could be slightly higher than some other random person.

I don't think hes all that fun hes strong though which is why I could see him joining, I think he knows Doffy doesn't give two shits about him and is just using him for smilies and if he shows something to Luffy or his crew (Helping Sanji in the fight vs Big Mam) I could see them asking him to join the crew but if he is still the same old weasel I don't see him joining I want a Logia user on the crew as much as the next guy but I am holding out hope that Smoker and Tashigi eventually join cause I am a big fan of Smoker hes my favorite Marine and if he joins Tashigi. But as much as I would like to see them join I see them being on Garps side of an eventual civil war between the Marines of the True Justice/Dark Justice seekers vs the Marines that believe in Justice but also know that not all Pirates are bad/worthless. Guys like Akainu Kizaru etc. seek True Justice/Dark Justice and guys like Fujirita/Garp/Kuzan have different views of justice and what it means Smoker falls in with the latter as shown when he left Albasta before everything was done and left it up to Tashigi who then let the SH's leave for saving the Kingdom and you know Smoker well his ultimate goal is and most likely always will be to catch Luffy respects him more then anyone would have thought when he asked Trafalgar Law after the Punk Hazard Arc why he was using Luffy. In the end I will eventually end up liking who ever joins the SH's unless its Rebecca she is too much of a goody goody to join a Pirate Crew she doesn't wanna hurt anyone which I respect but if your a Pirate and don't wanna hurt anyone your gonna get your self or your nekama killed bad fit and I would be furious.

What are the chances of Kinemon Joining? His chemistry with Brook, Zoro, and Sanji still is unmatched by anyone who was introduced during Dressrosa. He is still going to travel with the crew to Zo then to Wano. Even after Kanjuro was saved we still see him cheering for Luffy with Usopp. I think Kinemon himself is getting attached to the crew..he is probably addicted to Sanji's cooking at this point. If he stays he can have all the "pida" he wants. His ability is fun too so I don't mind if he officially joins.

The way Kin was introduced was very unique since his body parts were encountered by different crew members. Head(Sanji,Nami,Chopper,Franky), Torso(Brook), Legs(Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Robin).

He can talk with his farts = neat party trick.

His fighting style could be fleshed out later. With two more arcs ahead we could potentially get enough development where he either joins or becomes a long time ally/honorable member like Vivi.

The way Luffy met Momo was also strangely familiar. Reminded me of how he just happened to meet Shirahoshi. He also mentioned something along the lines of "he doesn't like cowards" when Momo said he won't fly even if he could. I think Luffy said something similar to Shirahoshi and Coby at some point…I don't think Luffy says "I don't like cowards"...just to anyone.

Also..Momo getting special treatment from Nami and Robin was odd. I don't think Kinemon is related by blood to Momo.

Coby = Future of good marines?
Shirahoshi = Ancient Weapon, Poseidon
Momo = Future Shogun of the entire Wano Country

No. Just another "pattern" people see and assume to be the case.

Nevermind that 9 names not matching up out of 26 letters isn't really that big a deal. Especially when you're using japanese and not english. Nevermind that "Ruffy" and "Robin" destroy that completely, and that we've also had "Chopper" and "Carue."

Similarly, people have a theory that all strawhat names had to be two syllables, until it was pointed out that in Japanese "Fu-ran-ky" is three.

Dumb patterns like that don't exist intentionally.

Those aren't the same as inorganic math formulas. He has character beats and emotions and storytelling methods he reuses, yes, and he refuses to let people die. But thats not the same as making up a plan based on a specific sequence and sticking to it for no real reason other than "lol, pattern."

Then why did he delay Nami's number for 80 chapters? Why didn't he give Usopp a numbered chapter until 400 chapters later? Why did he skip Robin's when he gave Usopp and Franky one in the same chapter?

Its cause both CHopper and Robin still have some sort of real test of commitment ahead of them.. not to keep it vague about Vivi, otherwise he never would have pinned down Brook as 8 and left us debating forever if Robin or Franky was 7..

Because Oda uses both sets of numbers. He counts them as friend joined order for chapter titles, but for everything else makes Luffy #1, especially for title pages.

Pattern would be Male-Female-Male-Male.

By adding in a completely arbitrary split in the middle that you made up with lots of caveats. If to create a pattern you have to say
1.Ignore Luffy
2.Ignore Vivi and Carue
3.Cut the current list (minus one) in half
4.Assume there will be 12 total additions

then its not a pattern, its just a completely arbitrary dumb ass thing you made up because you want a girl next.

No. Just another "pattern" people see and assume to be the case.

Nevermind that 9 names not matching up out of 26 letters isn't really that big a deal. Especially when you're using japanese and not english. Nevermind that "Ruffy" and "Robin" destroy that completely, and that we've also had "Chopper" and "Carue."

Similarly, people have a theory that all strawhat names had to be two syllables, until it was pointed out that in Japanese "Fu-ran-ky" is three.

Dumb patterns like that don't exist intentionally.

The ONLY one that has potentially any real merit is devil fruits names coming out to be all the numbers up to 10… and thats ONLY because a fan pointed it out forever ago and made it a joke about Kuma joining. Oda changing a fruit name to match a pun is easy now that he's aware of the pattern, but its not something he set out to do.

Oh man, this discussion… With Jimbei included the last members that joined are old, tall, mostly male and mature (or perverted), so once again I bet on an innocent dwarf for next nakama, most likely a female dwarf. It's a logical choice, imho, unless Oda introduces some cute animal or so, in the next arc.

He can fight in water. So what? So can Sanji and Zoro. Brook can WALK ON WATER. The guy can materialize his soul. He can hypnotize people.
I just don't see how a mere fish man tops a living Skeleton.

In the One Piece world a "mere" fishman is certainly more common place than a living skeleton or cyborg but if you are looking at it like that there are very few who can top that.

Jinbe stands out in part because he is in all likelihood one the most powerful Fishmen in the world. As far as top tier Fishmen go the only person we are really aware of is Namul(yuck, at least pronouncing it in Japanese makes it sound like Namur, lol). Then when standing with the crew he has the fat muscular build going for him, his hair style, nose, hands and skin color are all very distinct from what's been established and his name starts with J. I know the name thing seems silly at first but there is a pretty good chance Oda doesn't want his starring characters to share that same first letter. Of course Carue throws that line of thinking out but they aren't front and center like they used to be and I'd argue they were given their important roles at the very last second before Oda decided they were more than just one time thugs from Crocodile. Also to further discredit my theory Sanji was originally going to be named Naruto(but he wasn't!) so who knows? Oh and then there is Roronoa, Nico and Cutty so uh… never mind?

Jinbe fights in the water sure but unlike Sanji the best water fighter we have so far, Jinbe fights with the water! He grabs it like a bed sheet and manipulates it like a Nickelodeon water bender! Come on, that's so fun to watch! It was only too bad Fishman Island did most of it's battling on land where that part of his abilities couldn't be displayed. Members of the crew do share very similar techniques when looked at on the surface but no one does water like Jinbe. Then you've got his whale shark friends for good measure and after thinking about it his water abilities and animal whispering are only superficially similar to anyone else in the crew. That's not to say it's the most interesting(well to me it is) because that's subjective but he's certainly no Kyros either.

Then you have Jinbe as a fairly tragic figure with a history that is deeply woven into the story. He was name dropped so long ago leading our imaginations to run wild about who he was and what he was about. I don't know what I expected personally but I do remember being let down initially. He was introduced as victim and continued to be a victim throughout the war and into Fishman island. In hindsight though it's easy to see why he hasn't been portrayed like other War Lords with hax attacks or island destroying feats of strength. Not saying he can't, he just hasn't. I like that even for a War Lord he wasn't enough to keep mermaids from being kidnapped from Fishman Island or that he is conflicted regarding a solution for race relations in their world. I may be jumping the gun a bit but I believe he see's Luffy as a solution(at least partially) to these problems. Like everyone else in the crew he seems to have fully put is faith into Luffy when it comes to accomplishing his dreams. Now I know we don't know his dreams but he told Neptune he does have reasons for joining the Straw Hats, I think it's very logical he assumes he can accomplish his goals by being in the crew. Seeing Jinbe see the world completely change by the end of the story excites me to no end.

These things are what makes him interesting to me anyway.
