Right now the ratings that we see are only the TOP 10, so it doesn't in any way means that a series isn't doing well when it doesn't appears in there.
For examples of series that don't appear on it and are doing or were doing amazing are:
- Naruto,
- Digimon Xros War/Fusion
- Saint Seiya Omega
- Hunter x Hunter
- Space Brother
- Nanatsu no Taizai
…With hundreds of anime titles there is no way that not appearing in TOP 10 automatically make somebody guess a series is not doing well.
Also, the slot that World Trigger have never got an anime in Top 10! Obviously that is not what the TV Channel is looking for that slot(Well if it could do that good they wouldn't mind though :P).I heard that 50 episodes is just a placeholder that is found in the site of the anime of World Trigger. Nothing was really announced that the series will be only 50 episodes. Given that in that same slot Saint Seiya Omega, that never got in Top 10 in ratings, got a second season ending up with 97 episodes, I don't think is unimaginable that the same happens with World Trigger.
HunterxHunter and Space Brother did not made it to the top ten? Wow, those were pretty darn good animes though. o.O
If the top ten are always the same why don't they release the info about the top 50 animes so that people interested in rankings and performance can debate about the changes on the places 11-50? Not that I'd expect WT to find there, but still. XD
I still wonder what Toei sees in WT to give it 50 episodes right from the get-go. Even with a "Low budget" that is still a lot of time and manpower invested even when outsourcing their work to other studios. I mean given the timeslot and how they toned down the bloody scenes like Miwa's memory of his sister with a hole in her chest (can't wait to see how they gonna censor Enedra losing his arm and having his body pirced by Mira's spikes xD) they want this to be a children series for children to enjoy as most of them younger than 13 won't care that much for animation quality and slower pacing as long as the action is done right, the characters are loveable and the story is easy but also exciting to follow.
Still, how will they make money outta this show which should be a main criteria for an anime company after all…
Fucking Toei. They've been adding in useless filler and the scenes just feel sooooo weird. WHY WON'T THEY STOP THE MADNESS???!?!?!?!?
I agree with you about the fishing scene like from episode 10 but in this episode? Maes, pardon, Rindou drinking a bit coffee, Yataro sleep-eating nothingness and riding into the room on a giant rodent and falling asleep on its back? All of that was only for a couple seconds at best and nothing that broke the slow pacing that much.
At least it is no 30 second stand-still scene without background music and two people only staring at each other or a one minute long scene of a face of the same angle with unmoving eyes and what not and only a movign mouth. I can live with little filler scenes added to the show to fill the spaces as long as "something" is happening and it doesn't feels too awkward. Really, at least for me this episode's filler were easier to watch than of past ones tries to fill in the missing content for one episode.
Also given the review some scenes of the next episode might, might not guaranteed, might look pretty nice. We will most likely get some more fillers there as well, that one is a guarantee, but I think those fillers will be okay to watch as long as they don't take up 1-2 minutes in one go and come out of nowhere.
Actually, no. On IMDb, it has an 8.8 (out of 10) rating; a 4.07 (out of 5) on the WT wiki; and a 3.875 (out of 5) on Crunchyroll. Regardless, I still want it to have better art and animation, primarily because this is a sci-fi series that needs it. I hope they're saving up for between the top teams and Jin and Arashiyama Unit to look AMAZING.
It got 6.67 on Mal though…
Yeah, I'd also loved to see better art+animation or at least more well done scenes as some scenes in past episodes were done pretty nicely. Given that the Black Trigger revivial little arc was from chapter 24 till chapter 31 and the current pacing of Toei using 1.5 chapters per episode at best we should 3-4 or 5 episodes outta this. And I really hope they have given it a bit more care/budge to get some of the action sequences/battles done right.

Yeah, I like WT covers a lot. Wished I could buy them in my country to put them in my shelf but so far haven't read of any german manga translation company getting it. :c
I like how simply the cover is and yet isn't. It "only" has a character in some pose on it which reminds me a lot of Bleach simple covers, but due the broken shards behind said character showing scenes/faces from what is going on in said volume you also get a feeling that you are seeing a lot stuff at once, once you look at the shards specifically. And maybe after you have read said volume you will look at the cover with a different feel as the cover takes on aspects of every chapter in its volume while most covers are usually a stand alone and sometimes don't even have that much to do with what is going on in its volume.

About HunterxHunter(2011) and Space Brother. They sometimes appeared, but not frequently and with Space Brother appearing more frequently than HunterxHunter(2011).
Also note that HunterxHunter(2011) is the long running series, since 2000, that in average sold worst(354 copies per volume) and the second to worst in total copies sold(1.062).
For comparison you have:
Space brothers -> average: 802, total: 4.812, volumes: 8
One Piece -> average: 2.368, total:438.149, volumes: 187
Note:
About the top 50. Before it was released info of top 50, but slowly we started getting less and less info. Ending up with only Top 20 and later with only Top 10.
Or the company that did that info stopped doing it, or the TV Channels asked for more privacy of data. The fact is that right now we only have Top 10.
Saint Seiya Omega was airing at the same time as World Trigger and ranked around Top 20 frequently, in reality I don't remember a time where it didn't. Is not hard to believe that World Trigger is doing the same thing.
The timeslot is not bad, is not awesome, but not bad at all. Kids, teens and even workers wake up around that hour to go to school and work. A family with kids will probably tune to that anime block(world trigger and Tribe Cool Crew) during breakfast. EDIT: LOL, World Trigger airs Sunday. So there is no school or work :P. But That is even better for the kids, that in the weekend can wake up really early and watch TV all morning. At least when I was young, me and my friends did that.
Believe me; gore/bloody scenes, animation quality, slower pacing is not a big factor when a person, kid or not, decides to keep watching an anime or not. In the gore/bloody scenes aspect is even the other way around. More blood and gore will keep more people away and will get you more complains.
Only Otakus and internet teens animation quality critics wannabes(majority of people that critic animation on the internet XP) really highly care about animation quality and slower pacing. This excessive care for animation quality and for animation analysis is something that 90% of people that watch anime on TV, don't really care.
Toei is a big company that mainly targets mainstream audiences, so they also don't care, because why would you spend tons and tons of money for something that will make little difference with your audience. Note though that sometimes Toei also does titles targeted for "Otakus", like Kyousougiga, Mononoke and Kamisama Kazoku(The God Family) and those titles have a really high animation quality. Mononoke even was a major hit!
How will they make money outta this show? TV rankings, merchandise and the fact that the timeslot is reserved for Toei titles, meaning that certainly they don't pay for that slot or have a special agreement making it really cheap, in reality I even believe that TV Asahi(that has 14.29% of Toei assets) pays Toei personally to fill that morning anime timeslot.

The pacing Toei is using in World Trigger is in average 2 chapters per episode, not 1.5 chapters! This is easily seen that we right now in episode 12 have 23 chapters adapted!

It will surely slow down soon enough. I won't be surprised if it's at 1 chapter pacing later this year.
@Galaxy:

I doubt it a lot!
Because it will supposedly be only 50 episodes, 1 year, and One Piece had 8 entire years without an average of 1 chapter per episode or less(excepting fillers of course and LogueTown arc where they added stuff that Oda didn't had space and time to put in the manga due to the 100 chapter = Entering Grand Line, but I think we can treat those episodes as filler).
Though I can see them doing 1 chapter per episode(maybe even less) in some exceptional cases to be able to aggregate more chapters in later episodes, like they already did in some episodes in this 1st cour.
If we assume that they will adapt until the end of the invasion in chapter 85(I believe that they will extend the anime, making it go even further that that. But for now is just my wishful thinking) then we have the average pacing of 1.6 chapters per episode. That assuming there will not be completely filler episodes, or even a small filler arcs.
Well, if WT is around the top 20 (and for all we know that is either a very big if or a pretty safe if) then that sounds pretty good to me. And given it gets 50+ episodes it will probably get its watching audience everyday in japan. Would like to know how japanese forums are speaking about this anime, from english sites I see few, but mostly good comments though that's not saying much.
Well, guess we will see in a year how Toei thinks if WT anime was good enough or not for them.
Or they get BokuHero next year and then the drama will be big in this forum. XD
Oh I see…Cool designs THanks
Wes is the one you should thank though, he got the real quality pic. And I like their uniforms a lot too. Sure they aren't as awesome/facy/cool/sexy as some other costumes/uniforms in other mangas, but they feel practical and individual and fitting for the atmosphäre of World Trigger and that is great for me.^^
@Galaxy:

As long as the action is done right in the Invasion arc, I wouldn't mind a 1.5 chapter pacing that much. Maybe the battle between Jin/Arashiyama and the HQ elites might show us some glimpse about what might await us in the Invasion arc battles.

We did heard about anime only stuff, so far it wasn't much though, more like little fillers to fill some stuff but nothing big or very attention worthy. Maybe expect the pizza guy thing but even that felt more like a "in-between" thing than a chapter/pages cut off from the manga to get quicker to the invasion arc.
You think WT anime will get another OP around 24-26 till 50 something? Or will it be the same OP throughout the entire year?
The new volume comes out on January 5th, I hope it can stay for three weeks in the Oricon rankings and get at least close to 200k before dropping out of it. So far the anime boost had been minimal if not unexistent for the most part. And from what I heard an anime should usually boost sales by a lot. :/

For what I experienced of Toei, for them changing Opening around 2 cours is still to early. Normally they change the opening after 1 entire year(4 cours) or 3 cours. Recently we have Majin Bone that got a new opening after 36 episodes, Marvel Disk Wars and Dragon Ball Kai that still have the same even after 37, One Piece that even after 48 episodes still keeps the same(Normally One Piece openings stay more than 3 cours) and Precure that always keep the same opening for one entire year.
Sailor Moon Crystal will only be 2 cours and next episode will enter the 2nd arc that it seems will also be called 2nd season. So maybe it will also change the opening.
World Trigger opening seems one that will stay until the end of the series, or until the series is in a totally new part(this meaning after invasion), but I could be wrong and they could change the opening when they reach the invasion or maybe even before.
The sales aren't doing too bad, it took Toriko a while before it got a significant boost from it's anime and even then it didn't increase all that much. It's likely that the last volume sold at least 140k and didn't chart for a third week due to The Seven Deadly Sins taking up 10 spots. So I'd say 200k is possible and 200k isn't all that bad either, it's still far from being the magazine's worst seller.
I'm so happy this manga is getting translated again. <3
I decided to catch up with the manga after sticking with the anime for the first 12 episodes. World Trigger is really fun especially after coming off playing a lot of Freedom wars because they have a few similarities. I'm pretty excited to see the war get animated because some of those scans were pretty rough. Still enjoyed reading it though.

I'm happy that it gets read by more people. At least it feels that way online in some mangasites. Hope that trend continues once WT starts uploading new chapters.^^

Freedom Wars? Is it an good manga/anime/game?
Yeah, the Invasion arc is the one arc I'm looking for to see how Toei handles that one with all its battles and action scenes. I hope they have put alot of money/animators there, I don't wanna see static fights. xD

We would hear about that kinda change a couple episodes before, wouldn't we? Around episode 20-22 or so? Wouldn't mind to see a new OP, especially if around 26 or it starts with the Invasion arc. Seeing the Aftokrators in the OP for example with a more militaristic song would be nice.^^
Ooops , thanks Wes
Konami specialty is Curry! XD
Rajin-maru Exercise! XD
Karate Kid Mr. Miyagi, Torimaru version XD
Toei is incredible in adding stuff. I Really liked this episode(episode 13) :)
Was a fun episode, liked it as well. I'm really looking forward to the next one though as I really enjoyed seeing Jin and Arashiayama squad fighting the others.
I like how they're making Osamu look even more pathetic in the anime.
Why did they let Toei animate this?! WHY OH FUCKING WHY?!
Imagine if Madhouse or IG did it. Or even A-1… even RoachBaba was better than this shit...
Good episode this week. I don't mind this kind of fillers and I loved the second half.
The voice actors choices in this anime have been perfect so far IMO. I also love some of the soundtracks.
The preview got me excited for the next episode. The animation seems great. I won't mind if they extend the fight against Jin until he uses Fujin's power.
Was a pretty good episode, glad they used the flashbacks to Yuuma vs Miwa squad fight instead of a one scene for xx seconds/minutes stand-in. Konami's fun with her naivety, doubt she will ever see through one of Torimaru's pranks.^^
Hope the next one can give us some enjoyable fight scenes. :D
So wait… the anime is only gonna be 50 episodes?
So wait… the anime is only gonna be 50 episodes?
That's what they've announced so far, yes.
So wait… the anime is only gonna be 50 episodes?
I believe you're the only person I heard saying "only" when talking of the 50 episodes announced.
So wait… the anime is only gonna be 50 episodes?
50 is actually quite a lot given that most animes start with either 12-13 or 24-26 episodes. I admit though I had a good laugh when I saw the "only", most people on MAL for example are complaining and wondering why the heck WT got 50 episodes instead to ask "only 50 episodes? Why not more?. XD
Also NEW RAW is out:

Posted the second one 'cause mangabird has doubled a couple pages there, just in case you want a smooth reading.
! So, it looks like Osamu has worked quite a lot on the battle plan for Map C and from the looks of it Yuuma and Chika are quite happy with their leader working so much to ensure that they have a good victory chance.^^
! Chika separates from the team, she is on her own now, but given that the attention of Suwa and Arafune team are else where, I see that as a good choice. Both Yuuma and Osamu rush ahead to engage the other teams, yet in the chapter we only get to see Yuuma fighting, which makes me think that Osamu is hiding somewhere with wormbag, waiting for the right moment to attack somebody on the map.
! Suwa hunts Arafune down but Arafune's teammembers shot at Suwa, getting a headshot, yet Suwa had expected that to happen and has formed a little shield with several layers, strong enough to withstand an eagle shot. Doesn't prevent hat SUwa loses his left leg though which gives Arafune a chance to escape.
! Yuuma has used the wormbag trigger as well to get close to the cap kid sniper without being noticed, but Arafune's operator warns the kid sniper just in time so that Yuuma's attack fails to get the kill. Tsutsumi has rushed to the roof as well and tries to blast both away with double shotgun, yet Yuuma manages to dodge while the cap kid sniper gets ripped to pieces - point for Suwa team.
Yuuma engages Tsutsumi who knows he has little chance in close combat against him, but he believes he got a killing chance once Yuuma is midair. To his surprise Yuuma uses Grasshopper, a trigger formerly seen used by Midorikawa, and gets cut in half by Yuuma - point for Tamakoma 2.
We hear from Midorikawa that he taught Yuuma that trigger YESTERDAY, damn, Yuuma is so frikking good!
! Arafune confronts Yuuma and here is the big surprise of the chapter:
Apparently Arafune is a former attacker and not only that his points are HUGE!
As Sniper he got 8349 points and as Attacker he got 8266points!
If you remember Midorikawa, who's in 4th A team and a high ranked attacker, got 9110 points!
So yeah, very impressive for a leader of B10!
! Suwa and Sasamori take on their wormbags, Sasamori should hunt down the last of Arafune's snipers while Suwa will blast both Yuuna and Arafune away while they are busy battling each other, at least that is their plan. But from the looks of it, aka Chika and Osamu not seen at all in this chapter, everything is going so far to the plan Tamakoma 2 has made to win this match.
! And that's the result so far:
1 Suwa
1 Tamakoma 2
0 Arafune
with Tamakoma having all 3 members active while the other two teams lost each a member.
! This battle might end next chapter, but I got a feeling that it will last till chapter 91 and that Chika/Osamu will play a good part to obtain victory. At least I hope Osamu gets a kill or two before he gets killed, or even better surives till the end.^^
Just started this manga to capitalize on my 1year membership with viz and keep up with all the series proposed.
I caught up with Soma which was an extremely great surprise. Now it's World Trigger turn.
I'm at chapter 2 but i find it extremely boring right now. What annoys me the most and make it a pain to keep reading is the main character with his constant stupid duckface =3=. Is this the only expression the author knows?
Around what chapter does the manga get better?

Most people would probably say between chapter 12-15, I won't spoiler why though.^^
If you'd like to, you can read my reasoning why many people, me included, would agree with you that the first chapters of WT are "boring":
Thing is, WT is slow at its start very slow compared to many other action/battle mangas. And its biggest problem at its start is that it does not declare to the reader where this story will go on. In One Piece you knew from the first chapter that Luffy aims for the One Piece to become King of Pirates and in Naruto you knew from the first chapter that Naruto wants to become Hokage, etc. You as the reader knew the goal of the MC, usually a "omg, what an impossible goal that is". xD
In WT though you had nothing like that, neither for Yuuma nor for Osamu.
No "I gonna become the best agent of Border" or even a "I gonna rule all over humanity" (XDDD) or something like that. The readers had no real clue from where the story will continue at this point on. They could guess that Yuuma might wanna contact Border to meet his dad's friends, but Border seems to be in war with neighbors for a good reason given the start of the chapter, so that couldn't be so easy either.
So yeah, "clarity" wasn't really quite there.
As for the (=3=) expression, I won't spoiler you but I believe that expression is meant to be one that means to take it easy or that something is not worth to be serious about it. And Yuuma has plently reason to not take everything super cereal in the life that was given to him, but why that's the case you can read for yourself.
But don't be worried that is not the only expression the mangaka knows. And later on the manga becomes really good, so give it a try if you got the time.^^
Thanks James. I never really thought about it this way, but it's true that in most manga even when the goal is not clearly defined in chapter 1, you can at least grasp how big and awesome the adventure can be.
I'm not on chapter 12-15 yet, but i actually think it gets more interesting since the school attack.
I will keep reading.
Late reply… but yeah.. I realize saying only 50 episodes is a bit ridiculous. I just thought this was gonna be a long-running anime, I guess (to me a long-running anime is something like Yu Yu Hakusho, DB/DBZ, One Piece). They could probably just make a second season or something if the series is popular enough.
Decent episode, my only gripe is that even without gore, they censor the trion bodies being destroyed..
I loved the latest chapter. The author is really good with team battles. I hope we get at least 2 more battles in this rank war.
I expect Osamu's team to defeat both captains and the remaining sniper after the latter defeat Suwa's last teammate.
As for the anime, the latest episode was good enough but I wonder how they will handle Kitora vs Toma.
Is this a good series? Like battle wise? I'm looking for a good shounen battle series.
This is decent Battle manga. I'd say it's a bit different from top tier stuff, but yeah it's a good manga over all. And also I love the story.

Ashihara has made this battle engaging even though we know who's going to come out on top. The match was decided the second the two other teams didn't gang Tamakoma. At the least I'd expect Osamu to impress since he wasn't able to show in the last match.
And I'm in the mood to start the anime, hopefully to catch up by Sunday

WT might get a second season at the end of 2015, Ashihara has basically like a whole year to write more chapters which Toei could use as a second season material with 24 episodes. At least that is a possibility. And a second season right after the first one would certainly help to promote WT's popularity and increase its manga sells.
@Wes:

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with Kikuchihara's head not send flying. I had my hopes up after Osamu losing his arm and having his chest pirced. Now I worry again for future dismemberment scenes…
Is this a good series? Like battle wise? I'm looking for a good shounen battle series.
It is pretty good, more team and tactic heavy than one on one and superpowers out of nowhere due power of friendship(being too stubborn to give up. It depends on what your cup of tea is.^^

I have my money on Osamu using lead bullets to make the sniper guy and Sasamori unmoveable so that Chika can take them both out with her slow sniper cannon shots when they are unable to move. That would be like killing two flies with one move and haivng Tamakoma 2 having 3 members while Suwa and Arafune are down to their captains. Which is why I think Yuuma might get killed between Arafune and Suwa, leaving Osamu and Chika to deal with the rest.
As for the anime, don't expect too much from tis first episodes, else you will be heavily disappointed. Actually don't expect even a little bit from the first episodes, just go in blind and deaf and get through till the higher episodes.^^;
Battle scenes are kinda cool but the animation on every other scene is just too bad

Yeah, I wished Toei would have put a bit more money into the anime to give it a more consitent animation, but what can ya do~
Also, chapter 90 raw is out!
Probably better to link to the original source (ishuhui), instead of linking to a site that does it for the ad money.
Chapters 28, 29 and half of 30 in this week's episode. It was also the best episode yet
Not sure if this says much, but looks like quite some people are watching WT in japan. It is the 6th ranked show of tvasahi: http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/worldtrigger/
It means that at least the people invested in the Channel are liking the show a lot.
I don't know if this is the TV ranking of the channel or votes made by people, but talking of all the channel is awesome that it appeared in the ranking at least one time.
I was not expecting to ever seeing World Trigger appearing in that rank at all. The last times I watched it was always live action series, news and tonkatsu(Kamen Rider and Power Ranger). I never ever seen an anime in that list, so I stopped looking at it(Not that I looked for a long time at all :P).
If this is weekly TV ranking, than probably that is due to the episode it was.
^Guess Toei knew what they were doing after all. Still wished they had put more money for more consitent good animations/drawings into the series.^^
Also new raw is out, match is over!

! Match is over!
Tamakoma 2 gets 6 points outta the match and raises to rank 8 while Suwa and Arafune drops to place ten and eleven! Just one rank away from entering the top teams!!!
! What happened is quickly explained:
While Suwa was about to shot Yuuma and Sasamori to pieces, Chika has gotten into a position to fire and damn, she did! She blew couple houses and streets apart with her shot, causing Suwa and Sasamori with Yuuma to fall which gave Yuuma the chance to cut Sasamori in half. Arafune, man he is good, was somehow able from his terrible position on the ground to aim at Chika's position and give her a clear headshot.
! Suwa knows his mobility is terrible with only one leg against a two-legged and grass hopper using Yuuma. However he nearly succeeds at blowing Yuuma apart but Yuuma has used his shields, two shields apprarently, to protect his trion supply organ and communciation center. Osamu shots Suwa, htting his trion supply organ in the chest. Both Suwa and Arafune have to bail out as their trion bodies break.
! So Tamakoma2 gets 6 points with 4 kills and 2 points for last team surviving. Looks like Osamu got at least one kill in this. Btw, Usami was supersorry and sad that Chika got hit under her survilliance. XD
! We have some tactics talk in the audience room with the moderators and then the chapter ends with the next match announcement, Rank 8 Tamakoma vs Rank 9 and Rank 13. Looks like Rank 9 fell from the Top Tiers and is with that Mokami guy who is 4th strongest fighter. Can't wait to see him battling Yuuma!
! Also from the looks of it it is a given that rank 9 and 13 will team up to gang against Tamakoma 2 after their successful two matches plus they cannot chose the map unlike the lowest team who can plan ahead.
Pretty nice chapter like always.^^
! Also the Upper Class teams are in the same rankings Katori rank 7 Azuma rank 6 and Oji rank 5
! Also the Upper Class teams are in the same rankings Katori rank 7 Azuma rank 6 and Oji rank 5
! Which also means Katori at rank 7 has at 15 points (as Tamakoma has now 14 points in total) or a bit more than 15. And I guess they do have 15 as this would mean they were able to gather 6 points in two matches and as we have seen getting 6 points is not that easy even in mid tier. I wonder how many matches are left in this tournament. Will the next match be the last one or will there be one or two more matches?
Due to the execution of Kenji Goto by ISIS, World Trigger ep. 16 will not be airing today.
Probably because Kitora beheads a guy in that episode…
@Wes:

More like, cuts his head in half, but yeah. Heard some have seen it though so it might be out online on some sites.

! If Suzunari came from top-tier back to rank 9 its possible that Katori last match was in mid-tier and thats probably the reason why even though Katori is the weakest of the top-tier teams they manage to get 6 points.
I think it would be nice if we start to see Tamakoma 2nd struggle to get to the top but that would probably mean that this arc would get too big(even though it only has 5 chapters so far xD), something like:
rank 8–>rank 7--> rank 5---> rank 6--->rank 4
But we will get most likely 3 more fights(longer than the last one), one to get to Top-tier, one to reach rank 4 or 5, and other to lose against the rank 1 so they can finish in rank 2 (which also means that they can challenge the rankA teams)
the anime is not that good, well it's toei! Still love world trigger, waiting for new chapter they only released raw thou.
I loved the end of the battle and the explanations afterwards.
The next battle should be really interesting with 3 teams composed the same way and the situation being reversed for Tamakoma who will need to adapt their strategies in real time.
Plus, I'm interested to learn more about what is the Suzunari branch and why somebody as strong as Murakami ended up in a "weak" team.
